  1. You'll have to go much more in depth to tell me how this'll let him survive 3 hits from Metagross AND come out the victor. Even moreso into how to get the 3hko. A single use of Close Combat throws everything off, making it able to be KOed by Bullet Punch. Metagross usually is bulky enough not to care about Shadow Sneak. The Smogon analysis seems to say the best it can do against Metagross is Destiny Bond. Surviving explosions doesn't justify the HP investment, because the held item is Focus Sash. It's exceppent for the many anti-lead sets (Ambipom, Ape, Weavile, etc...), and can take down Aero and co...but bulky leads? Besides possibly Tyranitar and Heatran, I don't think so. EDIT: OP, I know this was made before the current rules, possibly before the forum. Edit the topic to conform with the rules within a day or so, and I'll leave it open. Otherwise, it'll be locked, but feel free to make a new one.
  2. Well, trading is part of the Pokemon games. They'll never make a game where all Pokemon are available. Satoshi Tajiri made it with interacting with other players in mind. Also, it causes many people to buy 3 "versions" of essentially the same game. That'd be nice for the GTS. But it's a tacked on, cheap feature. And considering that most of the 20 million players of Pokemon have never heard of EVs, many wouldn't use it. Reality? We're talking about a game where little animal-like monsters summon massive amounts of power almost out of nowhere. And despite some that are able to cause weather storms or control time, all their attacks are non-lethal. So uh...reality?
  3. Ah. I'm unfamiliar with what exactly is a built in feature for Vbulletin and what has to be added to it, but that's nice to know.
  4. I think it's safe to say most of us here don't buy the games for the Gym+E4 crap, but for all the stuff you can do AFTER that is done. So yes, I'll buy them unless they remove all the post-game stuff.
  5. No. It won't. However, as you yourself kind of referenced, if you have a hack on your game, even if you're not using it, you can be DQed for having it. I've heard this usually is only checked in the upper rounds. Though that's secondhand information.
  6. What are the Admins' feelings on a VIP-type class? On other forums (not Pokemon, but I don't think it has to be on other Poke forums to count), I've seen this class use when it's a notable person from another site (REALLY notable, not just some random mod or something), or for former staff. However, I also know that the forums I'm referencing were built from the ground up, and Vbulletin might not have the ability for various types of ranks. EDIT: I also recognize how trivial this is at the moment, because I don't think we have anyone notable from big fan sites ,or any former staff.
  7. Lucario won't be able to do much. Ice types won't like Vaporeon. Vap can't knock around steel types, true, but they can't exactly harm him either, outside of Magnezone. Vaporeon's standard Wish-Protect means you'll leave yourself open to more than a few threats. STAB Surf is almost always a given. Hydro Pump is also an option, but it can easily get pressure-stalled away. Your last slot can be: HP Electric: Covers Gyarados. While it technically hits bulky waters for SE damage, they won't care too much. Ice Beam: Covers most dragons, but leaves you open to Gyarados and other bulky waters. Toxic: Covers bulky waters that aren't Empoleon. Rain Dance: What?!?!?!?!?!. Gets rid of harmful hail. Based on the rest of your team, I think Toxic would be your best bet. It'll give you the best coverage that the rest of the team lacks. Plus hail damage+Toxic+leech seed would be amazing if you ever got it set up.
  8. No, I won't PM you. I have no reason to. If you have a question or need further assistance, you can PM me.
  9. ....yes, it is. Any non-core game is what this section is for. VVV You're right about that. This thread is pointless. If someone wants to discuss Ranch, feel free to start a thread.
  10. HP Dark does suck, but what is HP Fight hitting that Vaporeon can't already hit? Vap's best HP is HP Electric or HP Fire. But breeding for HP in-game is a hassle, so it's fine to go without it. Full rate coming soon/
  11. First off, apologies to SS for re-opening the thread even though he's offline and I couldn't ask him. But there ARE some crappy rates here, and it needs to be pointed out. If you are not knowledgeable of the competitive aspect of Pokemon, you should probably stick to lurking instead of posting. You can learn a lot by asking questions in the main Competitive Battling forum and reading the many, many threads there. This is still a fairly young forum, so I'll be lenient for now. But if I see repeated crap rates from the same people, action may be taken. (if you're going to make a joke, it better be a good one *ba da bump, crash*.) For being #4 on Shoddy Leads, why are you saying it isn't a lead? Most of the top 10 leads aren't utilizing Trick, as far as I can tell. It's certainly a strategy to watch out for in the overall game, but it's not an overt concern at the start. Also, it's ridiculous to expect a lead to be able to counter every other common type of lead strategy out there. You'll inevitably miss out on one or two. That's just how the game works. If you don't personally like the lead, more power to you. But your personal opinion shouldn't cloud the fact that it can be competitively viable. I imagine it's there for Heatran. And this is spam. There's nothing wrong with using a "standard" set if that's what serves the team. Using non-standard Pokemon or non-standard sets just for the sake of being "different" is just as dumb as slapping 6 OU sets together and calling it a team. Lucario, Weavile, and Infernape are frail. News at 11. Yes, we know. It can't take hits. But that isn't the point of the set. Frail pokemon can be used in any part of the game as long as the strategy is suitable and they aren't coming in on attacks that they can't handle. Also spam. But at least you go on to explain it, albeit briefly and poorly. But you don't explain after "Salamence and Flygon weak." Zapdos takes down Swampert and Scizor, no questions asked. But it can't exactly go in and out due to SR, and there's only a handful of attacks it can safely come in on. Actually, I suspect your rating skills aren't horrible. And more than a few parts of your rate actually had merit. But you make several unsubstantiated claims, or make statements that aren't competitively viable (omgzers teh standard). And that ultimately drags you down as a rater. (and you aren't the worst rate in the thread, since you at least backed up some of your claims). I'm going to close this thread but leave it open for public viewing (and will re-open it if SS says I can). Let this be a warning to all: If you're going to rate, BACK UP YOUR CLAIM and suggest how to fix it. Failure to do so will be considered spam. This doesn't mean you can't be a good rater eventually, but spend some time lurking, and asking questions in the general Competitive Battle forum.
  12. This isn't The Wizard of Oz. I'm all for a good New World Order conspiracy every now and then, but the hoof beat theory say otherwise.
  13. I have never captured a shiny of my own, except for the all-shiny-code and going to get Arceus. I got sick of SR for natures, so I thought I might as well get a shiny out of it. I did see a shiny Gloom once, in the Sevii Islands. I burned it. It fainted.
  14. That, and those are typical colors for celebrations. Even though it's probably G/s remakes, a lot of the supposed "hints" are really stretching it in terms of logic.
  15. Well, it's hard to top Gen 1 because that's the first. You obviously can't be more original besides the initial batch. But Gen 1 had some duds too. Beedrill? Cmon. And if we actually go back to the Gen I games, they were so buggy and glitched that the abuse was ridiculous (if you KO with Hyper Beam, you don't have to rest). If Dragonite gets in one agility, you might as well say "gg". Or how broken Alakazam and Chansey were, or how critical hits were based on speed. (and I listed 5) I just honestly don't think that every game needs to be mind blowingly different. I mean, it's Pokemon. It has a built in amount of repetitiveness and crap like that. I'm fine with only having a handful of Pokemon that I enjoy from each gen, because...well, that's how each gen has been for me. As long as they add in some little changes, I'm fine. Wraith, you are correct about Swampert. It was largely seen, by anyone (in-game, competitive, or otherwise) as the BEST starter until Gen 4 came along. It's still pretty good with a fairly good typing, bulk, blah blah blah.
  16. Try the trade forum. Read the rules in there before you make a post/thread. And there's no reason you can't download the packages. You can make a code with Pokesav, load it into the AR, activate it, and they'll be there and be legal. So you can trade, or you can use the resources you have (AR+Pokesav) and download the legal versions that are in the events section or the individual PKM section.
  17. It is an actual threat to consider. Yes, cable news makes it seem like the end of the world. But people who are health care professionals are taking it seriously. A number of hospitals in my area are putting heavy restrictions on visitors, and some school districts have given their principals the authority to shut down the school if need be.
  18. I really disagree. The 4th gen has several great and unique Pokemon to choose from: A regional bird that doesn't suck (seriously, Pidgeot looks so cool, but it is not worth the effort to even use it in Gyms + E4). And Staraptor doesn't just not-suck, it's really good. TWO base 120 STAB attacks (Return/Brave Bird) and CLOSE COMBAT which just wrecks everything! And that's before adding in any TMs or egg moves. Staraptor rocks. The starters are pretty good too, except arguably for Torterra. Empoleon has that huge amount of resistancies, and Infernape has that ridiculous move pool. Togekiss [/end argument] Garchomp [/end argument]. STAB Dragon AND Ground, oh and 20% evasion in sand storm, and all that can paralyze it is Tri-Attack (good luck) or Stun Spore from some crappy bug. I'm not saying that these are all mind blowing revelations that'll be remembered by gaming professors 100 years from now, but the 4th gen made a lot of additions to Pokemon. Yeah, maybe a lot of legends, but legends are what gets people to come to the franchise in the first place. Honestly, I think gen 3 has the most forgettable Pokemon. But then again, I don't own any Hoenn games.
  19. It really should be posted. Every other forum I'm on explains how their warning/ban system works, no reason why this one should be the exception.
  20. Your hypothetical are basically the text-book definition of not being mentally stable. You/your loved one were JUST TOLD by an MD of a disease that'll take you/your loved one's life. No MD worth their salt would see the patient or their medical proxy in a stable enough state in that time. Your cousins/sister/whatever should have done what the topic says: talk to a physician. Probably someone from psych. Random idiot's from forums/street corners/churches and their opinion's are a dime a dozen.
  21. Is your Ralts a foreign one? If you use a Japanese Pokemon in an English cart to breed (for example), the Everstone will have no effect. On the other hand, using a non-native language Pokemon with a native language Pokemon decreases the shiny odds from 1/8000-ish to 1/2000-ish. Also, I've had that happen to me while breeding too. While it's odd to get many eggs without that nature, it's not a guarantee. the 50% chance is per egg. It doesn't mean half of your eggs will actually be adamant.
  22. Because someone's "rep" is just a number based around whoever gives them positive/negative rep. People easily just do it for friends or do it to suck up to mods/admin/etc... or because they disagree with someone's opinion and goes out of their way to give them negative rep. Like post count, it is a completely meaningless number to anyone who looks at it. The reason "Just read their posts" works is because then you get to decide what their "rep" is. And if you never read someone's posts, that means you all don't post in the same threads/forums, so why's it matter. You don't even need to read every post to get a general idea of what you think of a user. Just a few, in threads you read/post in. And from every way I've heard it described, it sounds like a pain to moderate. By all means, if the upper staff here decide to activate it, then so be it. But I think it's an extremely unnecessary feature that doesn't provide any real use that individual users can't already do on their own.
  23. To all: From now on, if you need Pokesav help or need to know the legality of something, post in the proper Pokemon Editing forum. Thanks.
  24. [/end] So can we stop with this whole "omgzers dsi exclusive" crap?
  25. So this is a thread about some random hacker. I don't know why this would belong here. I'll look into it and see if it belongs in any of these other forums. But for now, it'll be closed.
