  1. You mention Vaporeon, Suicune, and Gyarados in your post, but you start out saying it's an UU team. Is this an UU team that's competing in the UU tier, or an UU tier competing against the OU tier? My rate would greatly vary depending on the answer.
  2. My personal struggle with foreign language was I went to elementary school when it wasn't a requirement for college graduation. So my school put very little effort into any foreign language program. Our spanish teacher changed every 6 months, if we were lucky. But when I got to high school, foreign language was not only a requirement for most college degrees, but also a requirement for the honors degree at my high school. It was the only major difference between it and the regular diploma, besides a handful of electives. And so I struggled through 2 years of French and couldn't qualify for the honors degree. I said fuck it and dropped it after the 2nd year. I could've done a 3rd year, but I would've had to do perfect to still achieve the honors diploma. I recognize that foreign languages are important not just for education but to live in a world that is growing "smaller" in many, many cases. But development of foreign language and the skills to get that knowledge need to start much earlier than high school.
  3. See, I don't know where this notion that opinions are these completely infallible thoughts that can't be criticized objectively. One can differentiate between someone in a (in this case, forum) discussion who is just doing what is essentially a +1 postcount post, and one who is offering an opinion and backing it up with reasonable arguments along with facts, statistics, experiences, etc... Where it differentiates is if an individual agrees or not with the argument someone makes. But I can objectively identify that a person makes a well reasoned argument regardless of my personal feelings on the matter. And in my proposed method, which I admit I thought about for only 5 minutes or so, it would still rest in the players themselves to make the decisions. It just prevents any random idiot from influencing the vote. Again, one should be able to objectively measure if an individual has sufficient knowledge of competitive battling regardless of if you agree with their posts, style of battling, etc... This is an interesting thought and unfortunately I don't think I have the time to respond to it ATM.
  4. The only Wi-Fi event outside of Japan has been the Secret Key. I highly doubt anything besides Key Items will be distributed via Wi-Fi. Next time ask in one of the Question threads either in Event or D/P/Plat discussion
  5. This is like a weird combination of competitive and In-Game, so I'm closing this. But I'll leave it non-deleted so people can copy/paste thier posts to In-Game megathread if they so choose to.
  6. This team is for the single battle against the AI in the BT Diamond and the BT portion of the Battle Frontier in Plat. I've gotten up to 136 in singles with this team in Diamond. I have yet to do anything besides Battle Factory challenges in Plat. So, without further adu: Starmie w/ Choice Specs Modest Natural Cure 252 sp atk/252 speed/6 HP - Surf - Thunderbolt - Ice Beam - Grass Knot/Psychic Starmie fulfills a lot of roles just by itself. It's move pool basically lets it hit everything that isn't Shedinja. It can absorb status and switch out. And it plays well with it's team mates, which I'll get to in a moment. Depending on how much I think I'll need to switch between moves, I've also used Wise Glasses and Life Orb. When I start playing around on Plat, I'm seriously considering adding Trick in the 4th slot. The first 3 moves, with STAB Surf and Boltbeam, are just too important to lose. Though I'm hesitant to do even that, because then I lose my best weapon against the numerous Water/Ground types found in the BT. I also may consider breeding for a Timid, because eventually, in the higher portions of the BT, it'll get outrun. Scizor w/ Leftovers Adamant Technician 252 HP/252 atk/6 DEF - Swords Dance - Subsitute - Bullet Punch - X-Scissor/Brick Break/Superpower/Night Slash/Quick Attack Scizor serves as my defense against OHKO and status. Come in on something Scizor won't mind, Sub up, set up a ridiculous amount of Sword Dances, and sweep. I've previously used this with Life Orb, but Life Orb + Sub often caused an early Scizor death. Even though with only two moves Scizor will leave a lot of room for "Not very effective", if I get behind a Sub, I can SD up, and I get priority with Bullet Punch always. While I've often used X-Scissor in the past, I think Brick Break will be my go-to attack. I don't want to deal with the drop in defense Superpower brings. I am considering doing a minimum amount of speed investment just to easily get a sub up. Any suggestions? Finally: Garchomp w/ Choice Band Jolly Sand Veil 252 atk/252 speed/6 HP - Outrage - Earthquake - Fire Fang - Aerial Ace/Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Aqua Tail/Sleep Talk Here's the final guy. Like Starmie, it can handle a lot of BT matches on it's own. The first 3 moves give perfect coverage for neutral damage on everything. The last slot is something that often fluctuates. Sleep Talk was at one time my go-to move, but with Starmie and Sub on Scizor I don't see a lot of use with it. Aerial Ace knocks around DT abusers. Scizor could get a technician boost from it, but it can't spare the move slot. I usually go for this. It sucks when I don't encounter a DT abuser, but when I'm without it, I usually get pressure stalled. Stone Edge and Rock Slide help me knock around fliers, and Chomp's unique base speed tier often convinces me to use Rock Slide for the flinch rate. I've never used Aqua Tail, but it kinda makes sense, though I've heard STAB whatever is just as good if not better. Oh, and after the first 60 matches or so, I usually end up switching this guy to a Choice Scarf and Adamant nature. Eventually it starts getting outrun. Now, here's why this team is awesome: Scizor's weakness of Fire is covered by both Starmie and Garchomp who resist it. Starmie is usually the better choice to take a fire attack since it won't mind the burn. Starmie's part-Psychic typing sucks. It is rarely useful, and gives it a Dark/Ghost/Bug weakness in addition to Electric and Grass. However, Scizor resists EVERY one of these except for electric, which Chomp is immune to. Garchomp's ice weakness is resisted by both Scizor and Starmie, and it's dragon weakness resisted by Scizor. So what do you all think? What improvements can be made, especially considering Plat changes? Is the Battle Tower portion in Platinum any different from D/P? Next up on my team is a Battle Tower team consisted around the eater of souls, Shedinja. But I'm still working on it. Happy rating. Credit to Deviant Art "artists" for ruining Pokemon with these creepy images
  7. The GS Ball was meant to contain Celebi, but it was later held for a movie, so it just became a bad plot device. I honestly don't think there will be much related to HG/SS. My gut tells me "Battle Frontier/Sinnoh E4 arc that is located in Johto", similar to how the Emerald Battle Frontier was in Kanto back in Gen III.
  8. There's always been the "Disconnect at the precise moment when trading" which has existed in some form or another since Gen I. It's just now there's no link cable to pull off. And for on topic-ness: I'll play through with Cyndaquil. And on cart #2, I'll SR to get all of them completely untouched. I'll even throw the rival battle so I don't gain any experience.
  9. See, perfect example. Don't be "that guy" :kikkoman: Cool post for all those links. And if you need help, just ask. We might infract for a dumb post. But if you need help before posting, just ask. I have no problem if someone asks me via PM/VM if you're posting in the correct forum or stuff like that.
  10. Honestly, you shouldn't. It may seem like we infract a lot, but we're not hard-asses. We're not going to infract for some mild cursing or a slightly off topic post, most of us anyway. And it takes something like 100 points before you're auto-banned, and even then it's only for two weeks. I mean, you have to REALLY work on getting banned. Like being a constant nuance and never contribute anything of use. And one infraction or two, it's like a "warning." Don't get any more and nothing bad will EVER happen. And even then, I've seen a few posters get a ton of infractions, get close to the 100 points, and then they turn around and become great, quality posters who help a lot.
  11. It'd be quite a horrible marketing strategy to make it DSi exclusive. It eliminates the market of anyone who has a DS/Lite and doesn't upgrade, and there are tons out there. DSi exclusive games are probably going to be limited to games that can use a LOT of DSi features. Though HG/SS is easy enough to imagine to have a handful of DSi features, not almost certainly not DSi exclusive.
  12. Different admins might have different standards. I know that moderators might get promoted to moderate additional/entire forum if we "patrol" outide of our area. And while I'm not an admin and don't have the ability to promote, I'd say be a consistently good/helpful poster, help out when you can. I'm sure being a familiar face from the "old" forums doesn't hurt either (though it's not a guarantee to help). But modding isn't the only way to help. There's tons of "ranks" out there. Site and wiki contributors are greatly appreciated. I personally love people who help out in Rate My Team threads. And many, many more. Each forum kind of has it's own sub-culture. Oh, and did I mention RMT threads really like helpers?
  13. I've only watched Movie 1, 2, 10, and 11. And the only one I even enjoyed was 11. 10 was just annoying. Here, I'll summarize it for you. People: Look, there's Darkrai. Darkrai: GO AWAY *uses Dark Void* *People become scared of Darkrai* *Darkrai is revealed to be keeping Dialga and Palkia at bay* *Darkrai makes a heroic sacrifice at the end* People: We love you Darkrai. *Darkrai didn't actually die* The end. Movie 2 was just confusing as fuck. A talking Slowking, without Gen II even starting and he wasn't even surprised at seeing this Johto Pokemon in the Orange fucking Islands? Misty's sub-plot was decent enough, but I'm sure the dub butchered it. Movie 1 was horrible and can't be fun unless you're 10 years old and hopped up on caffeine. Even though the raw is mildly better, it's still horrid.
  14. Shiny Pokeon didn't exist in Gen I.
  15. So...you don't know anything? So far, nothing about it either being DSi exclusive or DSi only features has been said. This is speculation thread, not baseless rumors.
  16. My religious or moral are personal views and have nothing to do with this discussion. I'm coming at this from a small government perspective. If you use moral or religious views to justify posts in this forum, expect people to question them. And you can do the same to others who do so. But that doesn't mean I have to tell you anything about me personally that I haven't disclosed. Anyways, I'll just toss up the bolded part to a poorly typed sentence. Moving on. There's lots of reasons to not violate someone's freedom and liberty to life. Of course, it speaks volumes of how much religion really keeps people in line when looking at prion stats: http://www.adherents.com/misc/adh_prison.html The Department of Justice also has tons of PDFs to look through on prisoner statistics. Though I didn't find anything particularly interesting, mainly because a vast majority of those incarcerated are probably in line with the religious demographics of this country. Which are Christian. You said those without God don't have a reason to not murder and rape and steal. That's pretty much not true, since I've never noticed a trend in criminals and religious backgrounds. Why is it so hard to accept that people can live peacefully without God being the reason holding them back from murder? You said sexuality was genetic. They can't be "converted...gay" if that's what you belief. And it is, because you stated it multiple times as a factual statement. But why shouldn't they? Sure, if you're in the custody of a state home and are one of dozens of children, I gues you should have the right to refuse adoptive parents. But I'd lead at the chance of someone adopting me, regardless of how much it matches the Dick and Jane family fantasy. Well, this is about same sex marriage, which is a legal concept. And you are against it strictly for religious and moral reasons. That's forcing your morality onto others. Hence, morality police. So that justifies them torturing a kid? It's a-okay to torture someone as long as it's in the name of religion? How do you even know he was gay? I wouldn't put it beyond bigots like that to just make it up or coerce him into saying it, just so they could have an excuse so they won't get punished. There are people with hormone deficiences, or born with both sex organs and it's impossible to predict what they'll mature into. So one gets cut off and the other left. It's a 50/50 chance that it's the wrong choice. But hey let's just ignore medicine and be against everything that isn't "normal." Another unsourced factual statement? Why am I not surprised. Or a court judge. And there's no law that says the government has to recognize religious ceremonies. It just so happens that most do. Again, who cares? This is about legal marriage. The US isn't a theocracy, and laws shouldn't be passed because of what the Bible says is okay or not. Who said anything about that? ---------- Post added at 07:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:00 PM ---------- Locked on request of the OP
  17. To the bold: If you can't post in this thread without "subtly" hurling personal insults/questioning one's character, then feel free to stop posting. Consider this your absolute final warning. And don't dodge the question. The only thing that keeps you from supporting murder and rape is your religion. That's what you said. But for some reason, I don't see a trend that those "without God" (whatever that means) are raping or killing more than those "with God." You honestly believe those that don't follow Western religions are just godless heathens with no respect for human life? Got it. So anyone who doesn't follow the Abrahamic religions can't have basic human decency. Strange. I'm pretty sure there's been lots of decent, even great, human beings that weren't Christian, or even Jewish or Islamic. Like this guy or this unknown dude. Neither are the aforementioned. What's a "stable family environment"? A mother and father? For every 2 marriages in the US, there is 1 divorce. source. So if you're worried about a "stable family environment", I'd say straight people are screwing it up just fine on their own. Why not let homosexuals do the same? The purpose of marriage isn't children. That has no legal basis at all. And even in religions where the purpose is ultimately to have children, like Catholicism, I've never seen a priest or reverand not marry someone because they cna't have children. That isn't the point of a legal marriage. It has nothing to do with God, your faith, my faith, etc... You entirely missed the point. You've said people can't have basic human decency without God. And that the only reason you don't support rape and murder is because of your religion. Regardless of what my religious beliefs are, I can think of plenty of logical reasons that don't involve religion on why someone wouldn't go out and rape and murder. Why isn't it? Haha, no, you grossly misinterperted what I said. A legal marriage and a religious marriage aren't the same. Religions can do whatever they want. But the only reasons you've bought up (and anyone else) against same sex marriage are all religious, something that doesn't belong in a democracy. No. Police are to uphold the law. Laws aren't based off of any type of religious beliefs or morals. They're based off the need to protect individuals and their liberty. Yeah, they can. For example, I see same sex marriage as a legal issue. You see it as a religious issue, because you've only bought up religion in support of your views. But laws aren't meant to reflect religious belief. They're meant to protect everyone. Again, it's fine that you and others are for Big Government that should tell you how to live and who to have sex with and all that stuff. But I'm for individual liberty. And I fail to see how giving homosexuals the same rights such as the right to not be discriminated against, the legal benefits of two consenting adults in a legal marriage, is harmful to anyone. ---------- Post added at 06:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:15 PM ---------- What's wrong with being gay? Legal marriage != religious marriage. There's lots of absent straight fathers too. But I don't see you campaigning against that. Prove it. What is His church? Another gross misinterperation. They do so because they're enforcing the laws, regardless of their personal feelings on the law and/or those being hurt.

  20. No you didn't. You made a factual statement and didn't provide any source or evidence or anything. Who appointed you the morality police? Furthermore, why should a government run by the people, for the people like the US have a morality police? There are a lot of people who can't bring kids to the Earth. However, that isn't the point of a legal marriage. Otherwise, the elderly, disabled, and many more shouldn't be getting married. Artificial incemination. By this logic, a sterile man and woman shouldn't be able to adopt. Because like a same sex couple, they can't have children either. What does this have anything to do with same sex marriage or other homosexuality issues? Again, I don't think the government should be legislating morality. It's okay if you believe in Big Government, but that's not how I was raised. No it doesn't. Just because you don't like it doesn't exclude others from liking it. No. As a metaphor, it's pretty crappy and ignores everything that differentiates a human being from a magnet. I think you're confusing "The world" with "you." Neither can the elderly, disabled, sterile, and many more. But fortunately, we don't live in a theorcracy. Maybe in your form of what I presume is Christianity, the purpose of marriage is making babies. But your religion is not law. Marriage is a legal concept done so two people can share their lives together and get many legal benefits. And denying two consenting adults the right to marry means denying them of tax benefits, power of attorney, and many, many others, for no other reason than "I don't like it." Believe it or not, people can be good without going to Church every Sunday. Why can't gay people "teach a child good things?" Again, you called marriage a right. Who are you to deny someone a legal right? What backing besides "I/my religion don't like it" do you have? Again with Big Government. Why should government be the morality police? And what makes your morals better than others?
  21. The only reason you don't support murder and stealing and rape is because of your religion? You wouldn't have learned any basic human decency otherwise? Believe it or not, people can believe in the sanctity of human life and basic human decency and respect without religion. I'm sorry that that isn't the case for you. Why? Laws should be set because they are for the betterment of society and to protect individuals, not to become a morality police. I guess this is just a difference of opinion. I believe in small government that gives individual freedom the highest priority and lets people make their own decisions. Let people live their lives as they please. And you believe in Big Government that legislates morality for little more reason because "I said so." I just don't believe the government has any place to tell me or my fellow citizens how to run our private lives. Well, you yourself just called it a right. And in a democracy, we're not about denying rights to people. They...get married? What is this? You've been saying this whole entire time that it is 100% genetic (without ever giving a source). Now it's either that or environmental? I wonder why. Oh, that's why. So it supports this, once again something without a source. Of course, it completely contradicts what you've been saying this entire thread. That it's genetic. And if that's what you believed, then the kid wouldn't become gay just because of his adoption. No one is offended. I just don't like how you're constantly making these factual statements and the closest thing to a source you've had is "Look it up." Again, I've yet to hear a non-religious argument in support of "traditional" marriage. These two posts above are entirely backed by their religion. All you two did was change "religion" to "morals" which, as you both admitted to, were taught by your religion. And even then, government should NOT be a morality police. We're not a theocracy and we're not a police state. If you want to live in a theocracy, you're welcome to move out of the United States and move to Iran or Saudi Arabia where religion is written into the laws.
  22. I'd be open to the idea of a weighted voting system. But I don't want the board/forum/Shoddy server to be hit by some people from another forum who love/hate whatever clause or Pokemon we're testing at the time just so they can influence the voting. I also have doubts about any voting system at all. My ideal system would be a hand picked group involving members who've demonstrated knowledge of competitive battling and...helpfullness, for lack of a better word. For example, I think the good posters in RMT (those with that badge) should be offered a spot. Some staff, since they're running the site (moreso to keep the discussion going smoothly and all rather than influence the discussion itself), and people who've otherwise demonstrated competent knowledge at battling, either by posting or by actual battles. But in either way, voting with a written post(s) backing up your vote, or discussion among a select group, it should happen in a publicly viewable thread. We can't really do a proper test unless an environment is already established. I think it'd be a huge waste of time to throw it all out there. If we start off with an established tier and clauses, we can immedietly begin testing. I mean, looking at the handful of other English-website tier lists, there's few differences. The tier lists in foreign metagames are more noticeable, but that's more because they just play the game differently than North Americans do. I actually think that is a good idea. They aren't strictly usage base, though mostly. There's a handful of Pokes that barely cling on to OU status every few months. And if they ever moved to UU, they should be tested to make sure they function in that environment. Milotic, for example, does. Staraptor does not.
  23. That U-Turn thing isn't a glitch. That's how the games actually work.
