  1. Host this? There's no hosting. The very reason it is 3v3 is because it's the first. We can do different formulas as we establish how the comunity operates.
  2. <p><p><p><p><p>Who are you?</p></p></p></p></p>

  3. I wouldn't call it misinformation. It's just the Abrahamic take on a fairly common cultural story. There's no shortage of ancient cultures and stories of a great flood, the most famous being of Atlantis. First recorded by Plato, who originally claimed it as a parable but students of his (and arguably other cultures, particularly Egyptian) have it as recorded history. Many of the great flood stories usually involve an angry god or gods causing the flood, the purpose of which is to destroy an unruly populous. There are actually many paralells between the Biblical account and the story of Atlantis. Both were floods created by the respective god(s) to destroy the unruly civilization There's been a handful of expeditions to various mountain tops to find remains of Noah's Ark, but any information obtained from them is at best, dubious.
  4. Varna has generously decided to donate a prize to the winner: He will breed or chain for a first gen shiny of the player's choice. Sounds pretty damn awesome. I have prizes from my house of ideas for 2nd or 3rd place, that is, if we get more than 6 participants. And for the record, I'm still letting Floot participate. He still hangs around in the chat room, so I don't think anyone in the tournament will have trouble getting ahold of him. I've also decided to let people use Shoddy and/or Net Battle for this tournament. However, in future tournaments, Wi-Fi will be the preferred battle format and Shoddy/Net Battle will be only as a last resort.

  6. mr. monkey, I'll be contacting you sometime this weekend for some trading.

  9. Agreed. Closing this. Haven't decided if I'm going to be handing out infractions for "certain" users.
  10. There can be clauses. It's just like playing anything else. The people participating set up rules of the match beforehand. Just because they can't be enforced via the game itself doesn't mean they can't exist. First, you never said anything about this being for official Nintendo tournaments. The official tournaments do have many rules and/or clauses, and are set up for 4v4 double battles, which again you never mention in your team. So you have a team designed for official Nintendo tournament rules, but you don't seem to follow any of them? Nintendo tournament rules are 4v4 Double Battles, nothing above level 50, no two held items can be the same, and a bunch of banned Pokemon that I don't feel like listing, but most notably Tyranitar, non-event Dragonite, Rotom, and Phione. The difference here is that Tyranitar and non-event Dragonite aren't banned for any other reason than because they don't hit their final evolution until after level 50. Since Nintendo tournaments are done in the Union Room and all Pokemon must be at level 50 or below (no Auto leveling like on Wi-Fi or PBR), that's why those are banned. Kingdra gets points for being unpredictable and only having one weakness. However, it's stats are fairly average and almost all Kingdras need time to set up. While Gyarados and Salamence can get by with one DD, Kingdra almost always needs 2. And it's movepool is fairly shallow. As for what I said about swampert, he can still sweep like Gyarados. But he can't sweep and do it fast. You'll be giving up speed for a lot of bulk.
  11. The PP Wiki has some horrible articles. Far too many contributors are putting personal opinion into them, the "Credits" section makes no sense, and more than a few are writing as if they're in 5th grade.
  12. Gyarados is pretty much dead weight on this team. Stealth Rock damage + sand stream damage + life orb recoil. And if it comes in on any attack that it isn't immune to (IE ground), you could easily lose half of it's health before making a single move. Blissey can stay. Leftovers + Recovery move won't make sand stream too much of a hinderance. But if you want to wall and be immune to sand stream, you've also got Calm Mind Bronzong and any number of Tyranitar sets (which gets a 50% sp def boost in sand). Porygon-Z won't last long as a specs user on a sand team. It can revnege kill with Scarf, but Gengar (3 immunities) and Starmie (cooler) do it much better with arguably better move pools. Smeargle is extremely gimmicky and you can do better than Transform. Instead of STAB (lol) Explosion, go with Destiny Bond. Much more of a guarantee to take the guy with you. Now, as for Gyarados' replacement, one option is to ditch Hippowdon and thus sand stream. But there's no current Pokemon that can do what Gyarados does while being immune to sand storm. You've got Cursepert, which at least fills the physical sweeper role that Gyarados does. With much better defenses, resistant to Rock/Stealth Rock, and only one weakness, and a ridiculous move pool, it's a great Curse user. Regirock is also a possibility, as is Torterra, but Swampert probably does it's job the best. Fake edit: I also find it ironic that you have a paragraph raging against clauses, then mention Tyranitar being banned in some tournament. So...yeah.
  13. How does it defeat Ninjask? Protect Ninjask can easily pass +1 speed. Sub Ninjask can probably live long enough even if it gets Taunted. Or...you know, they can just switch, since almost everyone has a Gyarados counter. Sure, it defeats Heatran, but Heatran is not a common lead, and no one would leave Heatran in on Gyara anyway. Hippowdon is only clearly defeated if it carries Ice Fang in the 4th slot. Without being Taunted, it can Roar or Toxic and set up SR. Or it might carry Stone Edge since Ground + Rock has some decent coverage. It's bulky enough to survive some SE hits, since Gyara is concentrating on bulk rather than attack, and will get worn down by Sand stream. It's not a GREAT weapon, but it by no means is something Gyara can take lightly. lol at Swampert. It easily wins against this Gyarados. Access to Roar/SR, neutral damage from water, resists Stone Edge. And is actually a reasonably popular starter, as is Hippowdon. Tyranitar wins hands down against Gyara. It'd be crazy to NOT switch out. Though not really a common enough starter. Agreed here. Shed Shell is a great item for Skarm, but you then have to have Roost somewhere on the set. Seismic Toss means you lose Wish passing, which makes Blissey a great team player. EP dropping special defense is only a 10% chance and isn't really something to take into factor against non-Serene Grace Pokes. It's not useless. Specs Gar and Scarf Gar just fill different roles. One is a sweeper. The other, revenge killer. You point out exactly why you're wrong in your post. Most Scizors run Choice Band. If Scarfgar is a Revenge Killer (which it is), then you know what it's going to do. Don't bring a revenge killer in on Scizor if it is set on a deadly priority move. Run HP Fight. Gengar the revenge killer can't afford to miss. 85% accuracy for a lot more power is not a huge letdown. It's a fine trade off, and those that are THAT worried about it can use Heat Wave instead (90% accuracy). Ironically, you complain about Fire Blast's accuracy but constantly talk about how Focus Blast is a-okay despite it's 70% accuracy.
  14. From what I hear almost no one does wifi trades. They only do the codes.
  15. For people playing legit via cart, getting a team of 6 ready in a little under a week might be a challenge. 3v3 is a good medium for those new to battling and for those who are hyper competitive. For tournament #1, it'll be 3v3. I'm sure it'll increase as time goes on.
  16. As a lead, it doesn't do much. Faster leads will Taunt and shut down Gyara's own Taunt and Dragon Dance. Slower leads (basically Metagross) won't set up and will just launch Meteor Mash or Thunder Punch. It's not a bad set, but it really doesn't do anything as a lead Pokemon. Skarmory never needs to run a RestTalk set because it has Roost. There are many other Pokemon much better at absorbing status, one of which you even have on your team. All Skarmory's suffer from being Taunt weak, so it might be worth the time to throw Taunt in there yourself over Brave Bird. You'll rarely have the time to set up multiple layers of spikes. And SR keeps many of the biggest threats of the metagame (Gyara, Salamence, Dragonite, Zapdos) in check. Standard, I prefer Thunder Wave over Toxic. Has better range and hits incoming steels. So what exactly do you want this to do? Wall? Sweep? Because right now, it's doing both. Calm Mind + Charge Beam=redundant, since Charge Beam is going to raise Sp Atk 70% of the time anyway. You've already got a special wall with Blissey, so I don't see what Cress is doing that Blissey isn't already. So re-think of what you want this Pokemon's slot to do, then find a set that fills the role. Once they figure out that it lacks a fire attack, Bronzong and Skarmory will have a lot of fun with this set. Also, lol at the Focus Sash. Without a spinner, it WILL be broken. The other option is to change the nature to one that doesn't hinder Special Attack and put Fire Blast in the slot (highly recommended). A fairly outdated Specs Gengar. It needs the changes I listed. HP Fire is a much better choice because it's the only way Gengar can deal with Scizor. HP Fighting is preferred over Focus Blast's horrid accuracy. HP Ice lets you hit anumber of threats and gives you a pseudo boltbeam combo. Trick allows you to dump the Specs onto slow moving walls that use physical moves (Snorlax, Blissey). Destiny Bond lets you take someone with you. Energy Ball is an attack that gives you some decent coverage if you want an attack there. Your two Pokes serving as your main attackers are both weak to Stealth Rock and can't heal themselves outside of Leftovers or Wish passing. This will hinder their usefullness, especially if hail or sand is up. Your third attacker is just generally frail altogether and will not like taking repeated damage from Stealth Rock or sand/hail. You have no counter for Scizor, Gyarados, and no real plan outside a possible revenge kill for Salamence. Same goes for Heatran. Starmie easily wipes the floor against half of your team, and can arguably beat Gengar with a bit of luck. Aerodactyl and it's suicide lead brothers and sisters setting up rocks will greatly hinder your team. And the only Pokemn who could handle Metagross is Salamence. TLDR: This team is basically 6 Pokemon thrown together. If the sets aren't taken straight from Smogon, then the modifications made to him (Sash on Salamence, lead Gyarados) don't make sense. Sorry, sounds like you need to scrap this and go back to the drawing board.
  17. I have never used netbattle. Can that support a 3v3 format? Is it compatible as of plats release like new moves, choice items, etc...
  18. What part of "preferred" is confusing? People who sign up to post on fan message boards are pretty much the most hardcore fans of any given fandom. It's a reasonable assumption to make that the vast majority of this board owns Diamond or Pearl along with Platinum. They probably own multiple copies of each. For those with Plat, you've got the solution to the concern you raised. For those that don't care, they can use D/P or Plat. But if someone, like yourself, is that concerned about a record of a Wi-Fi battle, then you should go out and get Platinum if you don't already own it. You are reading way too much into this. As wraith said, it's not a perfect solution, but for those that have to use Shoddy, it works. Anyway, this thread is barely more than 24 hours old, and most of it is filled with endless whining. So, as of RIGHT NOW I'm invoking the Bambi Rule: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all . Want to join the tournament? Cool. Want to offer suggestions to help make the tournament run more smoothly? Awesome. Donate prizes? Great. Questions about the tournament or suggestions for future tournaments? Coolio. Anything else I'll be marking as spam and infracting. I'm just honestly trying to do something fun here, and I didn't expect it to be met with so much cynicism and whining. I made a VERY harsh post here before, but quickly edited it. It was stupid and mean and not something that should be said by any member here, let alone a mod. I'm in a moderate amount of pain right now due to a fun little medical adventure, but seriously guys, I'm just trying to run a Pokemon tournament. Post, stay on topic, take the whining and complaining elsewhere.:grog::kikkoman: ---------- Post added at 11:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 PM ---------- Re-opened. Hopefully the night krew can spruce this thread up.
  19. Ta-da. Plat is the cart preference due to changes such as the Vs Recorder, Hypnosis accuracy, etc...
  20. I'm personally against that because Gen I, as a generation, is so incredibly broken due to the glitches. HOWEVER, I am willing to let that be talked about, and see what other participants think about it. If enough people like the idea, then we'll do that. Okay, enough of the discussion about swearing from both sides. If you wanna complain about it (from either side), PM me and I promise not to read it :bidoof: And if you wanna complain about it some more, we have a Debate forum. EDIT: If we do end up using NetBattle for it, I might end up banning a few other Pokemon from usage.
  21. NFE's are certainly allowed to be used alongside their fully evolved counterparts. Porygon-2 and Porygon-Z fulfill two different roles. Okay, bad example since neither are allowed in this tournament.
  22. Yeah, go for it. Don't own a DS? Is this the case for most of the forum? If so, I'm fine making exceptions about "Wi-Fi encouraged" rule.
  23. If you absolutely can't do wireless battling, you can join and use Shoddy. But cart usage is highly encouraged for everyone who does have access to a DS, cart, and Wi-Fi. So wraith, can i put you down for this?
  24. EDITED: Important stuff not in the first post: here and here And for any potential Shoddy users, read this Want to post about how I'm screwing this up/other complaints? Read this first! Now, onto what I originally posted: Ok, I've wanted to start organizing Project Pokemon tournaments for quite some time, and I've got a job that's being fairly flexible with my time, so I'm doing this now! I'd like to host a combination of tournaments here. Some of them will be straight up battles in the UU, OU, or Uber tier with the standard clauses (Sleep, Evasion, OHKO, Species). Some will be tier battling with some type of theme. Some will be themed battling, centered around some sort of gimmick, which may or may not have different rules/clauses. And ideally, I'd switch between battle centric tournaments and themed/gimmick tournaments. Hopefully we can do this once a month. Maybe more if it goes quickly enough. To start out, I think the first tournament should be fairly casual. But at the same time, so we can get a good feel for battling styles and whatnot. So, for the first Project Pokemon tournament: Kanto Nostalgia Trip! I can already feel the excitement. The Rules Sleep/Evasion/OHKO/Species Clause. Look em up, they're all over this forum Banned Pokemon: Have fun, be cool, don't be a jerk. I think you guys can handle this :bidoof: 3 Pokemon per team. No item substitutions, EV modifications, move substitutions, etc... may be made, but you can switch the order in which they are used. Battles will be best two out of 3. For this time, there will be no loser's bracket. The FAQ (which no one asked about Can I use [evolution/Pokemon in a later gen]? No. Why not? Because it's not in the Kanto Pokedex. But I want to use Blissey! That isn't a question So when's this shit gonna go down? The battling will start July14, brackets will be posted July 13, which is the same day sign-ups will end. Can I use Shoddy or PBR? In this case, it'll be acceptable, though I'd much prefer the use of a cart, especially Plat because of the video recorder. It's highly encouraged to use a cart rather than anything else. In other words, use Shoddy as a last resort, and only if your opponent also agrees to it too. Everyone here probably has a 4th gen cart, not everyone is on Shoddy. On that note, Plat is the cart preference due to Vs Recorder and Hypnosis accuracy, and it (mostly) reflects the game mechanics done for Shoddy battle.. What about hax0rz? As long as Pokemon fall within the legal parameters of the game, I'm fine with it. Any accusations of illegality should be PMed to me and I'll deal with it privately though playing legit is highly encouraged How do I sign up? Post here and say so. What do I win? Prizes for first, second, and third place TBA One other note, when the time comes, please contact your opponent via PM or some other method. I don't want this thread full of "where r u? im on teh wifi" and crap like that Sign-up list: You can also feel free to suggest ideas for future tournaments. And if anyone wants to help with prizes, PM me.
