2. Direct trading (Via Wi-Fi or Union Room) does not have any built in hack detection. The GTS and PBR have a very bare hack check on it. According to a thread on the old Pokesav.org forums. PBR Wi-Fi goes even further. But this is really a better question for the D/P/Plat questions thread, just for future notice. So with that said,

4. Oh thank god. We know we've finally made it when people come here to spam their random forum tournaments or whatever. Closing dis.
5. Johto was ridiculous with filler and a lack of character development across the board. but I think many people on Pokemon forums fawning over Kanto haven't actually watched it in a long time. I have. There's tons of pointless filler, COTDs that are almost never heard from again, a rival who's abscence is noticeable more than his presence, and only a handful of Pokemon on the trio's team ever get any real development, or even screen time. Butterfree, Pidgeot, Kingler, Tauros, and Muk were rarely seen in the times they were on his team (and Primeape and Haunter, but their status of actually being a Pokemon of Ash's is debatable). Bulbasaur and Squirtle had a bit of development every now and then and the only one with an interesting story was Charizard and Pikachu. Brock's Zubat is even caught off screen in the same episode it was allegedly caught in and I can't recall a single notable moment where any of his Pokemon were really central to a story in Kanto (Besides Vulpix). It evolves into Zubat after a ridiculous amount of episodes of not even being mentioned. Misty's Starmie and Golding are another pair that were rarely used. Strangely enough, Misty used Staryu a lot despite being a pre-evolution and presumably being weaker. And then of course there was Psyduck which was probably one of the better parts of Kanto. But the running gags in Kanto still have similar happenings in current seasons. I'm just saying for 3 years they used the same formula that the show still follows. I'm just wondering why people were able to tolerate this for 3 years, some (not necessarily here, but in general on Poekmon forums) praise it as "the best", but not after that. Why not just halfway through Kanto? Are those stupid Christmas episodes really that important to see? Or the millionth and one time Charizard doesn't listen to Ash? Or when COTD learns an important lesson about friendship and Pokemon? Yes guys , I know, the Internet is Serious Business. I know it must seem like I'm some anime fanboy. I'm not. I just see countless "ugh the anime/games/pokemon everything sucks and isn't like it was in Gen I/II/whenever" across all forums, and I'd like tosee some serious thought put into it instead of more "lolzers I agree +1postcount"
6. I understand that, but Kanto was EXTREMELY repetitive. There's a 30 episode gap between gym badges that is pointless filler after pointless filler. And then the episodes before the league are all pointless filler after pointless filler. I just don't understand why season 1 episodes' pointless filler are somehow magically better than season 2's pointless filler. Maybe the first 5 or so fillers get a pass, but the others?
7. But the repetitive nature of the series has been around since episode 2. The formula was basically established by episode 9, and Dogasu's Backpack provides a lot of insight into this. Kanto is filled with repeptitive fillers, and Team Rocket (Jessie, James, Meowth) purpose then is comic relief too, yet for some reaosn you enjoyed them in Kanto, but not later. No, I'm not starting a debate. However, this is a discussion forum, not Twitter. People are allowed to quote posts and discuss them. Clarifying one's point is acceptable in a discussion. I'm just asking why Kanto does the exact same thing you criticisize the rest of the series for doing, but you liked Kanto and didn't like the rest? Were the fillers just better in Kanto? Was there better character development? Nostalgia?
8. In other words, the formula would be (assuming that the EV training item and the EVs received from the battle are the same type): (Evs received from the Pokemon battle + 4 EVs from whatever Brace you're holding) x 2 = whatever A magikarp gives one speed EV and then you get 4 more speed EVs with the appropriate brace. Then you double that. Which makes 10.
9. But at the end of your post you say the first season was good. The same criticisms you level against everything else are also applied to the first season. So why does the first season get a pass and everything else doesn't?
10. They've been comic relief since like the 7th episode of the series. There are tons that don't repeat their names. So you hate it not because of it's character, but because of it's popularity? Sounds like that's your problem, and not a problem with the show. In fact, sounds like you don't like Pokemon at all. It's not "like the mascot of everything." It IS the mascot. Yeah, that's so dumb!!!11!111!1!!! Putting the most popular and recognized Pokemon on merchandise. What are they thinking? Trying to make money? The first season is one of the worst offenders of filler after filler after filler. Ironically, it isn't "always winning."
11. Alakazam already has ridiculously high special attack and pretty good speed too. It's base special defense is decent, but with physical and mixed attackers running rampant and a pathetic HP stat, it's usually not the best choice. Pokemon that are great users of +1 offense +1 defense type of moves (Calm Mind, Curse, etc...) are Pokemon that have decent defenses in the non-boosted stat. Tyranitar can Curse up because it gets a 50% special defense boost in a sand storm. Snorlax can Curse because of it's good HP and special defense AND access to Amnesia. Blissey can use Calm Mind (but usually doesn't) because of a high HP stat and most invest a lot of EVs into physical defense to take neutral damage physical attacks. Infernape for example, gets Calm Mind too. But because of it's horrible defense stats, you'll never see one running it. For better or for worse, special sweepers aren't the big threats they used to be. Alakazam might get ONE chance to set up. And I think it'd be better utilized getting behind a Sub, Trick-Choice, or Knock Off (maybe Encore). It also gets access to screens, but there are tons of other Pokemon that set up screens much better. THAT all being said, it really sucks as a lead. It can take on Azelf. That's about it. Metagross, Swampert, Aerodactyl, etc... all laugh at it. Trick-Choice is a pretty decent lead, though it certainly isn't limited to Alakazam. Here's your decision: Trick-Scarf will outrun those Sash leads and hopefully get them stuck onto a Taunt or Stealth Rock. Trick-Specs will cripple lead Metagross. IT'll only slightly benefit lead Swampert since it usually runs Ice Beam. Scarf is sort of okay because it boosts speed, but it still sticks the on one move. Overall, I'd say Trick-Specs is better. Just be ready to start attacking the suicide leads right away rather than Tricking them. I also do not advocate using Focus Blast on frail Pokemon. Go for HP Fight if you want that same typing. Ice/Fire/Ground are also viable options. Standard. Though Weavile is so frail and will lose 25% due to Stealth Rock, I don't see the point in putting any into HP. Just stick it in speed. Standard enough, though I think Fire Blast is worth the slightly less accuracy but the major boost in power. Leftovers over Life Orb. Don't try to sweep AND defend. Just choose one or the other. Going with the defense theme, I don't think U-Turn benefits it much. Knock Off however, will cripple whatever switches in. Use it to your full advantage. Poison gets crap coverage. Always use ANYTHING other than Sludge Bomb. Adding in HP Electric will at least make you not completely useless if Gyarados comes in. Standard. Now, that being said: Shared weaknesses: You have THREE ground weak Pokes, and the other two are so frail they might as well be ground weak. To make up for that, you have one ground immunity. Gliscor and Tentacruel are the only two Pokemon who are capable of taking any real amount of damage and living to fight. Stealth Rock: Stealth Rock is used, according to Shoddy stats, on something like 99% of all teams. There's a good reason for this. It keeps Zapdos, Dragonite, Salamence, and Gyarados in check so they don't just flat out dominate, turns many 2hkos into ohkos, and keeps Pokemon like Staraptor and Crobat from ever being used a lot. Your team lacks Stealth Rock. Ironically, you realize SR is a threat and have a Rapid Spinner. So what to do about this? Alakazam and Jolteon are performing essentially the same role as "special sweeper" Replace them with someone who can lay down rocks. Additionally, someone with some bulk. Any number of Bronzong or Swampert sets will do this and can even be effectively used as starters. Making those changes won't make your team perfect, but at least a bit more viable.
12. TLDR: anything can work in-game. Please use the sticky threads for discussing in-game teams.
13. The best part about the Stadium games were the cries. They got rid of the BLEEO BLOOPS of Gen I/II and replaced with more realistic sounds. Pikachu sounds like a rodent, Charizard sounds like a badass fire breathing dragon, MEOWTH ACTUALLY MEOWS. And of course, this was promptly forgotten about. So now I can have two bird Pokemon on the same team, and Pidgeot will sound like BLEE BLOOP while Staraptor will sound like a vulture ready to attack.
14. Butterfree holding leftovers is relatively pointless because it's so frail. Which really means Focus Sash, and then you only can use it as a starter. It's base stats for offense are fairly low so I usually don't bother with any attacks. Sleep Powder/Stun Spore are musts. Supersonic/Swagger usually is my third slot. Then it's down to Toxic/U-Turn in the rare instance where I can U-Turn out and inflict status later in the game. That all being said, the problem with using it in OU battles is SR means it won't be useful outside of a lead. And priority moves and Taunt leads will completely destroy it. In UU/NU, MAYBE it can get by without Focus Sash, but I doubt it. I use Butterfree all the time. It's a good lead if you can avoid getting Taunted.
15.

I've heard that Play Asia is a good site to import games with (from Japan to US). Do you have any other recommendatins or is that the general consensus?

16. Mario Galaxy? You point out all the crappy games out for console versions of Pokemon, so why would you want ANOTHER one? Any franchise has a bunch of crap games in it. Any console ever produced probably has about 66% (and that's a generous estimate) of complete crap that has no redeemable quality whatsoever. But the Pokemon games that are universally considered bad can almost always be traced to one thing: They're third party produced games that have little or nothing to do with the main ones. Just like outside of the core Mario games, there's no real plot or story to them, it's just an activity (Kart, tennis, golf, etc..) Pokemon console games have ranged from mediocre to horrible. The main reason, IMO, is because GameFreak doesn't make them, and they've said in no uncertain terms that unless the home console drastically changes how they interact with other players, they never will. And even if they did, they would have to spend a lot of time and effort re-learning how to make Pokemon games for a home console. So yeah, if you want Pokemon Tennis/racing/whatever, you should totally advocate for console games. But the best selling Pokemon games, and the most consistent quality wise, are the ones produced by Game Freak on the hand held. Satoshi Tajiri was inspired to make Pokemon based on how interactive features of the Game Boy could be used. And for better or for worse, Nintendo home consoles don't provide that level of interactivity. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, that's all I'm saying.
17. Ok, thanks for stating the obvious. The console games they do release exist to fill a role that the main Pokemon games can't. Anything else is basically asking for a Wii version of the DS game, which is pointless. It's one of the core aspects of Pokemon. Portable consoles and their games are much cheaper and are usually more friendly to the player. I can pick up Pokemon Platinum, play it for 5 minutes, save and then go about my day. For a console game, it'll probably take 5 minutes just to actually start playing the game. Again, thanks for stating the obvious? Just because they can release something doesn't mean it should be released. A console game like this thread talks about not only would be pointless, but would also be bad, since Game Freak doesn't make home console games, and are on the record for never doing so. Again, stating the obvious. It's the equivalent of "the sun will burn out!" It's factually true, but it's so far in the future that it's pointless to bring up. Pokemon shows 0 signs of dying out. Mario has been around twice as long, as well as the Simpsons. James Bond has been around for even longer.
18. It was super hax. But I also got lucky. I went a good chunk of the 137 without a Sub user or a Sturdy ability. No offense guys, but this is a really old thread, and I'm done with D/P BT. Time for Frontier in Plat. So I'm closing dis
19. Games? Not Pokemon. Pokemon's basis is it's appeal to massive amounts of people. If I buy a DS and a DS game, I can play that game. If I buy a computer and a game, I'll have to install it and hope it meets the minimum requirements. And even then, it could be a sub-par experience. And that's only if it meets the minimum requirements. Otherwise I can't play it at all. And god forbid if I want to have a good experience with online play. And it completely destroys the portability and generally how inexpensive DS games are. lol (see above)
20. lol You seriously think there's even a slight chance a Pokemon game would be developed on a non-Nintendo console? I mean, at least the whole "all regions in one game/RPG/whatever" as some basis in reality as they are theoretically possible ideas. That, however, is so high unlikely that it's safe to say it would never happen. For the "hardcore gamers"/ So much money? You do know Pokemon is already a huge cash cow, the second biggest video game franchise, period. And it's appeal is how it gets young audiences and casual gamers. If you're looking for a game for the "hardcore gamer", you're playing the wrong game.
21. Mystery Zone is the place you can get to if you use walk-through-walls codes to get to uncharted parts of forests or water. So no.
22. Brick Break is unnecessary if you're just looking to hit Blissey for SE damage. Brick Break: 75 base power for SE damage = 150 Dragon Claw: 80 base power with STAB = 120 Outrage: 120 base power with STAB = 180 That said, Brick Break does have OTHER uses, such as hitting Tyranitar harder than anything else Salamence could dish out. But if you're looking for a wall breaking mixed attacker, Dragonite and Superpower might be your best bet. You're missing out on two of the best combos of Double Battles: Zapdos Discharge w/ Garchomp + Smeargle with Dark Void They are both complete dick tactics, but they are very effective.
