trading [Search] Arceus Eigakan 07/05
randomspot555 replied to snowwer's topic in Wi-Fi Trading & Battling
Please update the thread to conform with trade forum rules. kthxbye -
Nintendo doesn't make the core Pokemon games. Game Freak does. Game Freak has said, many times, that they have no plans to ever make Pokemon for home consoles. Satoshi Tajiri made Pokemon specifically for the Gameboy. And there, and it's advancements such as the DS, it'll stay.

Event: Eigakan Arceus and Movie 12 National Premiere
randomspot555 replied to NewsBot's topic in News Discussion
You can lower. Adding EVs won't apply. The berries will still work (the one that add 10 EVs for a certain stat), but you won't see the dispalyed stat # change. Trust me, you can't EV train a level 100 Pokemon. Once it's level 100, you can TAKE AWAY any EVs there, but that's it. -

That doesn't work. for EVs to apply, it must be able to gain levels. It might technically be EV trained, but it won't be reflected in the stats. -
I don't want that to be my overall message. But that, right now, there's little, if any, consistence in quality of writing, editing, fact checking, sourcing, and templates. I think we really should restrict who has access over editing the Wiki until it becomes a bit more organized. And I would imagine the Wiki has an Admin, etc...but honestly I have no idea who they are. I don't think I've heard of any enforcement for poorly written or poorly sourced articles.
-
Could you expland on what this means? You mean like a pre-determined design for a page? What a page should look like? Also, I agree with you on the "credits." Totally annoying. Just check the history page, seriously. And I agree with you about the "I" stuff. These are wiki pages, not FAQs. But I think we need templates.
-
Ok, this is going to come across as a rant. But I could spend all day editing and come close to no progress, becuase this Wiki is just in a sad state. Just clicking random page: http://projectpokemon.org/wiki/EP036 Let's pretend you never heard of the Pokemon anime. This Wiki page would leave you wondering stuff like: What the hell is this about? What journey? What heroes? What's Sunnytown? Why do they need to go to Sunnytown? Knowing it's about an anime episode brings in even more ponderings, such as: What's the episodes title? What Pokemon were featured? (reading it, you can't even tell it's about Pokemon) After a few more random page clicks from the same editor having the same problems, I come across this gem: http://projectpokemon.org/PPwiki/index.php?title=Pokemon_breeding&action=history "I" statements in a Wiki? No one cares. The article is about Pokemon breeding, not Behind the Scenes of PP's Wiki. The grammar, spelling, and overall quality of writing looks like it was done by a junior high school student. These "Credits" pages are annoying. Wiki's a group effort, and your contribution to it might be edited or deleted entirely in an hour. These aren't reliable. If you need to use it to link to a source, do so. But don't glorify yourself or others by putting a PP's members name there. As I said, I could honestly spend all day re-writing these articles and make next to no progress. We need quality control. So, first off: We need admins for the Wiki that have power to...I dunno, mass edit stuff, warn people for making crappy edits/articles, and so on. This is part of the problem, that any random person off the street can come in, write an article, and their poorly researched or poorly spelled article can sit there for weeks without anyone noticing. In some cases, they get "Wiki Contributor" recognition, despite the fact that their edits are poorly done. And until that happens, I really think we should re-consider letting just anyone edit. It's clear that many people who put these articles up have no idea how to write. They're breaking the very basics of Wiki writing, such as inserting opinion/bias, I statements, crediting themselves, and almost never citing a source. That isn't to say they don't ahve the potential, but right now, they're doing more harm than good.

PP Tournaments: Kanto Nostalgia tournament

Since no one has told me at all what the status of their battles is, besides Varna, I'm just assuming that this is dead. Thanks to Varna for his time in donating a great prize. We can still have our battle if you wish Maybe next time, PP *closes*- 33 replies

Event: Eigakan Arceus and Movie 12 National Premiere
randomspot555 replied to NewsBot's topic in News Discussion
Arceus cant' be EV trained since it's at level 100. It's stats depend on what IVs you get when you generate the Wonder Card. -
I can't see that as possible true. Off Topic has ONE manga thread on page 6 (last page) and, as far as I can tell, not a single thread on anime, specific shows or general. I say the opposite, and this is how a few other forums I frequent go by: If a topic starts crowding up a general section, then we should look into making a seperate forum/sub forum.

Official Event Pokemon Help/Questions thread

If it's hacked directly into the Key Items bag, it won't work. You have to receive it via Mystery Gift for the in-game events to be triggered. -
Ever since my AR broke, I've been meaning to get a flash cart. But until I do, I'm relying on the kind members of PP to help me out. While I highly doubt anyone has a legit Arceus, that's fine. All I'm wanting is a legal one. There's a PGT posted by Poryhack over here http://projectpokemon.org/forums/showpost.php?p=38649&postcount=543 Load that up, generate it, and trade it to me, and I'll be happy. I've got a few breeding projects I've done that I can give away. Masuda Method Gold Charmander Project Parents: Male Charizard w/ Belly Drum and good IVs, event female Charmander from Japan. Both 100% legal to my knowledge. Offers: You can select a hatched Charmander with Belly Drum, or grab an egg. No shiny yet, so none available. Scyther! Parents: Two Scizors, one legal via a trade in Serebii's Wi-Fi Chat, another legal but self-made hack. Hacked Scizor had 30 IVs across the board, legal had 31 in Attack and Speed. Offers: Any that are left over. All out of Adamant natured ones. I also have a handful of Aaron's bred with it's evolved form and Ditto. As far as other offers go, I have a bunch of Tournament Lucrio's with Blaze Kick, generated but legal, by me. I'll happily teach Plat move tutor stuff to any of my traded Pokemon, given that either you trade me the items needed, or you give me enough time to get the shards. Diamond FC: 2965 4679 1157 I'm in both Serebii's Wi-Fi Chat and PP's Wi-Fi and general chat rooms on a semi-regular basis. You can also PM me and we can exchange Yahoo/MSN/AIM screen names.

I'm going to contest that, even in-game, Pidgeot sucks. I used him in both Red and Fire Red. I ditched him as soon as I could in Red, and I tried to grind through in the remake, but he was just a pain to level up wit a pathetic move pool So even in-game, he sucks. Look at the other Pokes you encounter early: Mankey, and then you run into those mega punch and mega kick move tutors machoke and geodude and stuff pikachu the bugs starter Magikarp salesman So yeah, even in-game, there's no reason to use it. Competitively? Well, in OU, we've got offensive bird Staraptor, and Togekiss, the flinching bird and can play defense. In UU, those roles go to Swellow and Noctow, respectively. Farfetch'd gets a ridicoulously awesome move pool but no stats to make it worth it. So what can Pidgeot do that Swellow and Noctowl can't? Eh...besides the gimmicky "give it it's own item/ability", nothing. Pidgeot sucks. I know, i hated to admit it, but it's true

I think, if there's an abundance of a certain topic in a general forum (Off Topic, General Gaming, Pokemon Franchise, etc...), then a new forum should be considered. But I haven't really seen an abundence of manga related discussion in Off Topic.

Anybody know why Flootenkerp was banned?
randomspot555 replied to Dragonite.Luv's topic in Off Topic
Bans/infractions and the reasons they're issued are an issue that concern two parties: the staff and those that are issued the infraction or the ban. They are not to be discussed publicly. -

I apologize for the massive delay. http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=330768 Bracket info. It is your responsibility to contact your opponent. Please inform me of what's going on. There's no rush. We can all bet busy. But if an opponent is inactive for 2 days, I will auto-advance the other guy, assuming they've also been active. Good luck to all.- 33 replies

I know not all, but it's a metagame that has more special attackers than many others. The only real threat to Blissey is Scizor, Tyranitar, and Metagross, who all carry Pursuit. In that case, to handle a certain amount of Pursuit damage, sure, invest in DEF. But otherwise, she shouldn't stay in on physical attackers.
-
I'm not very experienced in Ubers, but I do know the best Blissey set for ubers is Calm Mind. There's little point in investing in physical defense since others take those hits so much better, and ubers is dominated by special attacks. Blissey w/ Leftovers Calm Natural Cure/Serene Grace 252 HP/252 sp def/6 sp atk - Calm Mind - Ice Beam - Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Thunder - Water Pulse/Thunder Wave/Toxic This Blissey will take special hits like no other. Lugia and many others take physical hits much better, so don't worry about it's physical defense. Just watch out for Tyranitar and Metagross' Pursuit. It gets access to Psychic and Shadow Ball, but tons of other Pokes in ubers use those much better. Icy Wind is a possibility if you want to slow some threats down while lowering their speed. Thunder Wave should only be an option if Icy Wind or Thunder aren't on the set. That said, this Blissey does not provide much team support. And it isn't supposed to. This would be better suited for that. Blissey w/ Leftovers Calm Natural Cure 252 HP/252 sp def/6 sp atk - Light Screen - Wish - Protect - Aromatherapy Be warned though, this is all based on theory-mon. I've never played ubers, I only know about it through reading. But Blissey should concentrate on special defense, and leave physical hits to Lugia.

Ok, just remember that the Rotom forms will only work if it's Plat vs Plat in the Union Room. Plat vs D/P will work, but it'll appear as normal form in the D/P cart. And in Wi-Fi, forms and exclusive moves won't work at all. I guess. UU Pokes can function in OU. However, they almost always fulfill very specific, niche roles. Most of the time, there's a Pokemon who can do it better. Milotic is a great RestTalker in OU, for example. However, Specs set (which is great in UU) is done better by Suicune, Starmie, and many others.

Ok, I'm closing this for a few reasons. This is the Wi-Fi Trading forum, not battling. Battling threads in the Competitive Battling forum and Trading threads here both require you to list your FCs either in sig, profile, or post anyway. And friend codes can easily change. If you put your cart into another DS, for example. So with that being said...

Unfortunately, this lead accomplishes pretty much nothing. Spiritomb being incredibly slow means it won't be stopping much with Taunt. Almost every other Taunt lead is faster, and those without Taunt will DD or Sub or whatever before it can use it. Metagross might be hinderedd by Will O Wisp, IF it hits. And that's a big if. Pursuit doesn't do much because not many are gonna flee in fear from Spiritomb. In UU, with 0 weaknesses, this thing can take hits. In OU, it's painfully underwhelming. Dusknoir is the ghost-of-choice in OU if you want a ghost to tank. Great base special attack, decent defenses, Pain Split, good move pool, etc.. However, you need a lead that can actually do something. Aerodactyl is the best suicide lead, bar none. Taunt, sets up Rocks, might even get a hit in if lucky. Bulky leads such as Metagross and Swampert can set up rocks and stay around for tons of attacks. With an astounding SIX weaknesses (two being x4 to water and grass), it's typing screwa up what could be a great bulky ground. It's weak to the most common move (Earthquake), almost guaranteeing it will never safely switch into anything. Plus with the rise of Zapdos' HP Grass it makes it even more dead weight. Swampert does this guy's job a million times better. Better typing, great move pool: Swampert w/ Leftovers Adamant Torrent 252 HP/128 DEF/128 Sp Def - Surf - Ice Beam - Earthquake - Roar Feel free to throw SR in there somewhere too. In fact, this could be a halfway decent starter if it has SR. It seems like a great strategy, doesn't it? However, it's also fairly predictable. IT's a huge invitation for ghosts to come in, particularly the bulky, aforementioned Dusknoir or Scarf Gengar. Immune to normal, resist bug. And if SR is still down, add in possible weather damage, Swellow's lifeliness will end quickly. I view GUTS as something you either plan for (whcih is why Rest Talk Machamp is so great), or you get lucky (Guts on Scarfcross, which is essentially gg). Swellow isn't cut out for OU, and for good reason. Unless everything goes perfectly, it'll die quickly. If its only purpose is Rapid Spin, I think there are several others much better. Donphan w/ Leftovers Adamant/Bold Sturdy 252 HP/252 DEF/6 HP - Rapid Spin - Knock Off - Roar - Rock Tomb/Ice Shard This Donphan set is all about team support. Rapid Spin to get away spikes. Knock Off with good prediction can screw up counters (almost all Donphans don't invest in Attack, so they know it won't hit hard, so common switch ins are guys who need to set up or Choice users). Roar is great to scout around teams so it can accumulate SR damage. Rock Tomb cuts the foe's speed. Ice Shard is an awesome priority move. However, with no attack, it doesn't hurt much even for x4 damage. And it's VERY predictable. Thunder Wave might work a bit better. Otherwise fine as long as your spinner stays alive. Nintendo Connection Tour? Like an official tournament? Rotom (all forms) are banned in the tournament.

PP Tournaments: Kanto Nostalgia tournament
randomspot555 replied to randomspot555's topic in Competitive Battling Discussion
Just to bump this for last minute joiners before I post the brackets tomorrow (Monday) evening. As said earlier, Shoddy/Net Battle/whatever will be allowed for this tournament for those who...for some reason don't own Pokemon? or Wi-Fi access or whatever. And if for some reason I pair a cart player with a Shoddy player, please be helpful and help the cart player figure out Shoddy. I'd like to keep this on some sort of time schedule. So please, ASAP, contact your opponent and post relevant updates in the thread. If one person is active in this thread and the other just isn't responding, I might go ahead and auto-advance the person. However, if you guys just keep having conflicting schedules, that's fine. Just make sure to post in this thread to give us an ETA. Otherwise, happy battling.- 33 replies

questions Official Help/Small questions thread for D/P/Plat!
randomspot555 replied to randomspot555's topic in Generation 4
I tried a playthrough with Noctowl as my main bird. It's base stats are pretty low so you'll have to level up very high to do a lot of damage. And for a Pokemon with better special attack than physical, it sure does learn a lot of physical attack moves via level up. Night Shade is available via egg move (basically a special version of Seismic Toss), it learns Extrasensory at level 42....and Dream Eater way up in the 50s or something. TLDR: Don't use it for offense, because you'll be sorely dissapointed. Same goes for Pidgeot.
