  1. Alakazam already has ridiculously high special attack and pretty good speed too. It's base special defense is decent, but with physical and mixed attackers running rampant and a pathetic HP stat, it's usually not the best choice. Pokemon that are great users of +1 offense +1 defense type of moves (Calm Mind, Curse, etc...) are Pokemon that have decent defenses in the non-boosted stat. Tyranitar can Curse up because it gets a 50% special defense boost in a sand storm. Snorlax can Curse because of it's good HP and special defense AND access to Amnesia. Blissey can use Calm Mind (but usually doesn't) because of a high HP stat and most invest a lot of EVs into physical defense to take neutral damage physical attacks. Infernape for example, gets Calm Mind too. But because of it's horrible defense stats, you'll never see one running it. For better or for worse, special sweepers aren't the big threats they used to be. Alakazam might get ONE chance to set up. And I think it'd be better utilized getting behind a Sub, Trick-Choice, or Knock Off (maybe Encore). It also gets access to screens, but there are tons of other Pokemon that set up screens much better. THAT all being said, it really sucks as a lead. It can take on Azelf. That's about it. Metagross, Swampert, Aerodactyl, etc... all laugh at it. Trick-Choice is a pretty decent lead, though it certainly isn't limited to Alakazam. Here's your decision: Trick-Scarf will outrun those Sash leads and hopefully get them stuck onto a Taunt or Stealth Rock. Trick-Specs will cripple lead Metagross. IT'll only slightly benefit lead Swampert since it usually runs Ice Beam. Scarf is sort of okay because it boosts speed, but it still sticks the on one move. Overall, I'd say Trick-Specs is better. Just be ready to start attacking the suicide leads right away rather than Tricking them. I also do not advocate using Focus Blast on frail Pokemon. Go for HP Fight if you want that same typing. Ice/Fire/Ground are also viable options. Standard. Though Weavile is so frail and will lose 25% due to Stealth Rock, I don't see the point in putting any into HP. Just stick it in speed. Standard enough, though I think Fire Blast is worth the slightly less accuracy but the major boost in power. Leftovers over Life Orb. Don't try to sweep AND defend. Just choose one or the other. Going with the defense theme, I don't think U-Turn benefits it much. Knock Off however, will cripple whatever switches in. Use it to your full advantage. Poison gets crap coverage. Always use ANYTHING other than Sludge Bomb. Adding in HP Electric will at least make you not completely useless if Gyarados comes in. Standard. Now, that being said: Shared weaknesses: You have THREE ground weak Pokes, and the other two are so frail they might as well be ground weak. To make up for that, you have one ground immunity. Gliscor and Tentacruel are the only two Pokemon who are capable of taking any real amount of damage and living to fight. Stealth Rock: Stealth Rock is used, according to Shoddy stats, on something like 99% of all teams. There's a good reason for this. It keeps Zapdos, Dragonite, Salamence, and Gyarados in check so they don't just flat out dominate, turns many 2hkos into ohkos, and keeps Pokemon like Staraptor and Crobat from ever being used a lot. Your team lacks Stealth Rock. Ironically, you realize SR is a threat and have a Rapid Spinner. So what to do about this? Alakazam and Jolteon are performing essentially the same role as "special sweeper" Replace them with someone who can lay down rocks. Additionally, someone with some bulk. Any number of Bronzong or Swampert sets will do this and can even be effectively used as starters. Making those changes won't make your team perfect, but at least a bit more viable.
  2. TLDR: anything can work in-game. Please use the sticky threads for discussing in-game teams.
  3. The best part about the Stadium games were the cries. They got rid of the BLEEO BLOOPS of Gen I/II and replaced with more realistic sounds. Pikachu sounds like a rodent, Charizard sounds like a badass fire breathing dragon, MEOWTH ACTUALLY MEOWS. And of course, this was promptly forgotten about. So now I can have two bird Pokemon on the same team, and Pidgeot will sound like BLEE BLOOP while Staraptor will sound like a vulture ready to attack.
  4. Butterfree holding leftovers is relatively pointless because it's so frail. Which really means Focus Sash, and then you only can use it as a starter. It's base stats for offense are fairly low so I usually don't bother with any attacks. Sleep Powder/Stun Spore are musts. Supersonic/Swagger usually is my third slot. Then it's down to Toxic/U-Turn in the rare instance where I can U-Turn out and inflict status later in the game. That all being said, the problem with using it in OU battles is SR means it won't be useful outside of a lead. And priority moves and Taunt leads will completely destroy it. In UU/NU, MAYBE it can get by without Focus Sash, but I doubt it. I use Butterfree all the time. It's a good lead if you can avoid getting Taunted.
  5. Don't bump old threads.
  6. Mario Galaxy? You point out all the crappy games out for console versions of Pokemon, so why would you want ANOTHER one? Any franchise has a bunch of crap games in it. Any console ever produced probably has about 66% (and that's a generous estimate) of complete crap that has no redeemable quality whatsoever. But the Pokemon games that are universally considered bad can almost always be traced to one thing: They're third party produced games that have little or nothing to do with the main ones. Just like outside of the core Mario games, there's no real plot or story to them, it's just an activity (Kart, tennis, golf, etc..) Pokemon console games have ranged from mediocre to horrible. The main reason, IMO, is because GameFreak doesn't make them, and they've said in no uncertain terms that unless the home console drastically changes how they interact with other players, they never will. And even if they did, they would have to spend a lot of time and effort re-learning how to make Pokemon games for a home console. So yeah, if you want Pokemon Tennis/racing/whatever, you should totally advocate for console games. But the best selling Pokemon games, and the most consistent quality wise, are the ones produced by Game Freak on the hand held. Satoshi Tajiri was inspired to make Pokemon based on how interactive features of the Game Boy could be used. And for better or for worse, Nintendo home consoles don't provide that level of interactivity. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, that's all I'm saying.
  7. Ok, thanks for stating the obvious. The console games they do release exist to fill a role that the main Pokemon games can't. Anything else is basically asking for a Wii version of the DS game, which is pointless. It's one of the core aspects of Pokemon. Portable consoles and their games are much cheaper and are usually more friendly to the player. I can pick up Pokemon Platinum, play it for 5 minutes, save and then go about my day. For a console game, it'll probably take 5 minutes just to actually start playing the game. Again, thanks for stating the obvious? Just because they can release something doesn't mean it should be released. A console game like this thread talks about not only would be pointless, but would also be bad, since Game Freak doesn't make home console games, and are on the record for never doing so. Again, stating the obvious. It's the equivalent of "the sun will burn out!" It's factually true, but it's so far in the future that it's pointless to bring up. Pokemon shows 0 signs of dying out. Mario has been around twice as long, as well as the Simpsons. James Bond has been around for even longer.
  8. It was super hax. But I also got lucky. I went a good chunk of the 137 without a Sub user or a Sturdy ability. No offense guys, but this is a really old thread, and I'm done with D/P BT. Time for Frontier in Plat. So I'm closing dis
  9. Games? Not Pokemon. Pokemon's basis is it's appeal to massive amounts of people. If I buy a DS and a DS game, I can play that game. If I buy a computer and a game, I'll have to install it and hope it meets the minimum requirements. And even then, it could be a sub-par experience. And that's only if it meets the minimum requirements. Otherwise I can't play it at all. And god forbid if I want to have a good experience with online play. And it completely destroys the portability and generally how inexpensive DS games are. lol (see above)
  10. lol You seriously think there's even a slight chance a Pokemon game would be developed on a non-Nintendo console? I mean, at least the whole "all regions in one game/RPG/whatever" as some basis in reality as they are theoretically possible ideas. That, however, is so high unlikely that it's safe to say it would never happen. For the "hardcore gamers"/ So much money? You do know Pokemon is already a huge cash cow, the second biggest video game franchise, period. And it's appeal is how it gets young audiences and casual gamers. If you're looking for a game for the "hardcore gamer", you're playing the wrong game.
  11. Mystery Zone is the place you can get to if you use walk-through-walls codes to get to uncharted parts of forests or water. So no.
  12. Brick Break is unnecessary if you're just looking to hit Blissey for SE damage. Brick Break: 75 base power for SE damage = 150 Dragon Claw: 80 base power with STAB = 120 Outrage: 120 base power with STAB = 180 That said, Brick Break does have OTHER uses, such as hitting Tyranitar harder than anything else Salamence could dish out. But if you're looking for a wall breaking mixed attacker, Dragonite and Superpower might be your best bet. You're missing out on two of the best combos of Double Battles: Zapdos Discharge w/ Garchomp + Smeargle with Dark Void They are both complete dick tactics, but they are very effective.
  13. Actually, it's a perfect assumption. It is 100% up to the thread maker to state what clauses are being used and what environment is being played in. The OP failed to do that, and only difference really is "no legendaries". So when one sees a thread with unstated rules, and 4/6 Pokemon falling into the OU tier, it's a fair assumption to rate as if it is being played in the standard tier.
  14. So despite being presented with multiple, well thought out posts of why Shuckle is not fitting in on this team (at least as a lead), and suggestions to either remove it or add sand to benefit it, apparently are ignored. With only "Shucke stays no questions asked." Part of making a thread here is you have to be open to change and criticism. You have to be open to using Pokemon you don't "like" (IE your no legends rule) and that the Pokemon you chose for the job (IE Shucke as a lead) isn't the best, and you have to be willing to work with that, and improve your team. If you could provide a convincing argument about why Shuckle is a great lead for your team, then we'd all accept that. But you haven't, and appeared to have ignored all the advice posted. So since this is really only Rate-Half-My-Team, I'm closing this. Better luck next time, and much thanks to Golgross and Toffe for their input.
  15. The only Darkrai currently available, outside of the various events, is the Japanse Platinum Darkrai. No other countries have gotten the Member's Card, as of now. We can all hope that eventually Europe, US, and Australia will get them. But right now, there's no word on it.
  16. Ok, "bigger screen." Possibilities aren't endless. Trading and battling is just not as good, if even existant, on console games compared to the GameFreak made DS ones. Add onto that that Nintendo's Wi-Fi service is very laggy on popular games. Imagine 15 million people trying to trade Pokemon on the Wii? You're very likely wrong. Unless you live in Japan and/or speak Japanese, you've probably never read anything official from Game Freak. Part of Pokemon's appeal is the connectivity it has to everyone else that plays it. Currently, the interactivity that is done on the DS just can't be done on consoles. Add onto that the relative inexpensive games compared to console versions, and that is the basis of Pokemon. And a personal appeal of Pokemon is it's a game you can pick up, play for 5 minutes, save, and pick right back up where you left off in an hour, day, or whatever. A console game does not have that option. And then actually suggesting Game Freak, a company that has only produced for handheld Nintendo systems, to drop everything and start learning how to produce for a completely new system? That's a steep learning curve and isn't worth it besides the semi-ridiculous "all regions in one game" notion.
  17. You're putting yourself at a disadvantage for no reason if you go by that clause, especially since almost no one follows it. Zapdos would be a great benefit to your team. It's one of the bulkiest flying types around with a great movepool.
  18. Eh, I'll check it myself later in the week when I get the handful of non-Plat Flower Paradise Shaymins I have off of my Ranch. Anyway, I hope you're right, it just runs contrary to what I've heard from multiple sources.
  19. As far as I know, any Shaymin, regardless of it being legit or not, can USE the Flower. Only Shaymin with a Fateful Encounter flag can RECEIVE it.
  20. You know, guys, we DO have an anime forum. And it would love to have some posts that aren't "RARGH it sux0rz". Anyways, speculation is cool. But it really is only worth discussing/posting about if there is some small bit of information to go on. As I'm sure those of you who've kept up on Movie 12 news, a small teaser was shown for Movie 13. That's discussable, I guess (but in Anime, not here). As for this? It's just pure, random speculation. Sorry guys, closing this.
  21. ^^Moltres is not a threat an OU team needs to factor. Mainly because it loses 50% from SR.
  22. Taunt week, which basically is almost all Suicide Leads, most Anti-Lead/Fake Out lead, and also very weak to the rare but deadly Trick-Choice lead. And even then, it can't do anything to Metagross except hope they don't Roar you out or Encore. The only way this set works is if they SR first and you Encore. All that being said, if Shuckle wants to wall, and I mean REALLY wall, it isn't as a lead. And it needs to have sand up. Rock types get a 50% special defense boost in sand. Get a new lead. You're going to fall short of several 2HKOs without Life Orb. Unless you're running a Rain Dance team, no reason to hold Damp Rock. -Z can't afford to miss. Thunderbolt over Thunder. Fine nd standard as is Metagross Yeah, Probopass is NU for a reason. It's typing sucks. Probopass is doing nothing for your team. Get rid of it. Zapdos would me a good replacement. Elevates your bit of ground weakness, generally bulky, can run Rain-Dance-Thunder if you wish, good check on Scizor, and so on. You really need a check on Gyarados because you currently don't. I'm sure someone less tired could provide a better rate.
  23. PKMN files are impossible to be legit, since you use an outside device to obtain them. They are legal. If you want legit, you need to breed yourself/capture it yourself/attend the event yourself.
  24. Of course, almost no one runs Impish on Scizor. It's got decent enough defensive stats + Iron Defense and Roost. But many other Pokemon are much more suited for taking hits/team support. Scizor is built to be offensive. I think Rapid Spinners are common enough in OU (with many OU major threats losing 25% such as Zapdos, Gyarados, Salamence, Dragonite along with the many generally frail Pokemon who don't like entrance hazards). You wouldn't have to change a team too much to put Ho-Oh in it. You would have to to counter it. And it's definately bulky enough that it could probably force switches often, and either Roost or Sub on the switch. And with a 50% burn rate, it's a risk to switch in even fire resists. Swampert and Tyranitar won't enjoy the cut in attack, Starmie will switch out due to Natural Cure, and the one who could absorb it, Heatran, can't do anything back unless it carried the rarely used (in OU anyway) HP Rock. I saw this thread on the same subject over at Smogon's forums. It deserves a look, I guess, but Ho-Oh is so ridiculously powerful. It would easily shake up the metagame.
  25. I read it. Don't be a jerk about it. As I insinuated originally and I'll expand upon now, gamefreak doesn't make the non-DS games. All of the console games are made by licensed 3rd parties, permission via Nintendo. and they've ranged from Mediocre to awful. What's the point of a console game anyway that the main games aren't doing? Better graphics?
