  1. Instead of telling you why your list of proposed easy mode bans is wrong, I'll just go with my own. I don't think Easy Mode should remove a TON of Pokemon. I think it should remove 6-7 of the biggest threats. Coincidentally, these threats usually have a roll or two to fill in Uber battling. Tyranitar: With amazing stats in everything except speed, access to a ridiculous move pool full of offensive moves, defensive, team support, and everything else, and a 50% boost in special defense due to sand stream. That's right, even though it's typing gives it tons of weaknesses, that doesn't matter. It soaks up special hits like there's no tomorrow. Salamence: Yeah, it sucks in uber battling, but who cares? It dominates the current game. Offense? Standard DD. Defense? Well, it gets Roost and Iron Defense. It's also got just decent enough of a special move pool to run special sets. Intimidate means it can take a few hits before going down. Latias: While I haven't encountered it too much, when I do, I'm usually screwed unless I stop and think for a while. Scizor: Duh. This guy causes so many Pokemon to switch out, and CB hurts, even if the opponent resists. And if it's running a Sub, stat up, or Baton Pass set, it's pretty much a guarantee that Scizor will get a chance to sub/stat up/Baton Pass. Heatran: Again, duh. Typing gives it fire immunity, poison immunity, resists to a lot of other stuff, and it's speed is just good enough to be boosted by a scarf. Or you can get sp atk up to ridiculous levels and specs it. Or you can sub up and fire off Will O Wisp to cripple Breloom and other switch ins. Or it can explode. Lucario, Magnezon, Metagross, and the Rotom forms are formidable threats, but they don't have nearly the "oh shit" feel of the above. Lucario's typing is good, but it's defense sucks so it can't afford to switch on much. Magnezone's sole purpose is to trap Scizor. Metagross is hampered by Trick and usually doesnt like STAB special attacks that it doesn't resist. Togekiss is easily counterable in so many ways that I lost count. Mamoswine: See Metagross. Alakazam is something I've rarely encountered and I've never had a problem with it. Celebi and Jirachi have been annoying as hell but I don't think they're centralizing the way that the 6 I outlined are.
  2. Articuno in OU? No way. With Heatran and Scizor on every other team (often the same), Metagross and Swampert as leads, and x4 weak to rock (meaning 50% gone from SR damage). Add onto that that it's only stellar stat is it's special defense, and that doesn't mean too much when you have 50% gone just by switching in. Remembe rthe point of testing lower tiered for higher tiered placage is if they are just completely overcentralizing the lower tier. It should not be "can they do well in the upper tier?". Porygon-2 is a great Gyarados and Salamence counter, but it doesn't seem to break the lower tiers in half like Staraptor did over at Smogon. All the others in "confirmed" (and for 3 people, you seem to have sped through the work) could at least have a case made for them, but I have no idea how one could make the case that Articuno is centralizing the lower tiers.
  3. An optional clause banning the many "good in ubers environment but aren't ubers themselves (ie Heatran, Tyranitar, Scizor, Meta, etc...)" has a nice sound to it, as long as it's optional. It'll be interesting to see how that works. I think the best thing to do, at this point, is pick a handful of Pokemon that seem to perpetually fluctuate in tiers and usage and test them our selves to see where they should fall. Donphan, Milotic, Staraptor would be great candidates for this. MAYBE Ambipom and Crobat. I also really think no more than 4 names for tiers is needed: Whatever our equivalent of uber is. Whatever the standard tier will be called. Whatever the equivalent of uu will be called Whatever the equivalent of neverused will be called And when testing crap, we just put it in the appropriate [limbo] category between two tiers and thus don't need any dumb BL list.
  4. If someone wants to start a breeding discussion thread in 4th gen forums, that's fine. Especially if lots of the small questions are breeding. It also gives people a place to put those otherwise useless "oh wowzers i gotz a 31 ivd [whatever]" posts.
  5. Okay, it just sounded like (or maybe I misread) that this whole shindig was a done deal. Good to know I'm wrong.
  6. No offense meant, but what qualifies you three as testers? I thought the whole point of having a thread like this is to set up a method so the whole community can test. I mean cmon, it's not that hard to have a battle on Shoddy, take some notes from it, and point out "Well, this seems broke because of [reason], but this seems fine due to [reason]."
  7. I did have a fairly lengthy response about how horrible this sounds, but TLDR is I don't want this place to become some creepy Deviant Art type of posting hell hole.
  8. A few criticisms: Your list of the proposed tiers contradicts the paragraph following it. You lump BL in with UU in the list, but then say BL is in OU in the paragraph itself. There are a handful of non-OU Pokemon that can fulfill unique roles in a battle. That won't change regardless of where it lies in the same tiers. But I'll have to disagree when you say BL can work just as fine as standard OU mons. There are tons of physical sweepers that can do a ridiculously powerful Band set like Staraptor. However, many sweepers don't have to deal with the myriad of flying/normal weaknesses +25% gone from SR. Tiers over at Smogon aren's strictly based on usage, though mostly. You'll never see Salamence in UU, even if everyone stops using it. However, basing it on stats/movepool/etc... is dangerously close to theorymon. If we're basing it on that, what's the point of even testing it? Smogon took a step in the right direction by essentially eliminating the BLs and throwing them in UU or OU. Those that didn't break UU in half stayed there. Others stayed in OU. We should do something similar, and I think a good set of Pokemon to start off testing would be some that seem to fluctuate in usage: Milotic Donphan Staraptor Crobat Smeargle We shoudn't be that concerned. This is for the betterment of the PP community, not others. And just like Smogon, the only place where they enforce the rules as they are is their Shoddy server. (IE: PP members battling elsewhere shouldn't whine and moan about them using non-PP tiers. Respect the board and whatever system they use). Time? We need a METHOD first. I'm relatively new to Shoddy, so I don't wanna propose a method.
  9. A Pokemon forum is not the first place you should think of when desiring tech help. This is a simple question that could be solved via a Google search.
  10. As someone who does some IT work (but am by no means an expert): Macs are expensive due to generally how easy they are to use and the low amount of time it takes to acquire the knowledge to use them. They are essentially "pre-built" machines, hence why they cost so much more than a PC. The one situation in which I could justify a purchase of a Mac over a PC is for media edition. For video editing, pro-tools, and a bunch of other things, they are well worth it. at least that's what those in the fields of journalism and many other media think. Otherwise, it's mainly lazy college kids who don't want to take the time to learn how to use a damn computer. That being said, I don't think they are extremely user friendly. I could not hand a Mac to a grandparent and expect them to learn to use it. I couldn't do it with a PC either, but I can at least customize a PC so that it only does e-mail, basic Internet surfing, and picture storage. PCs are basically blank slates for computers. It can be as simple or as complex as one would like. Ideally, those who own PCs would learn a few basics before using them (run Windows Update regularly, install reliable anti-virus, etc...). But because they usually don't, I get paid to do it for them. so I prefer PCs.
  11. If no one is currently posting about literature in the off topic forums, then there's no demand, hence no need for a section. Now, this is primarily a discussion board for Pokemon. So even though some parts of the forums are generally low traffic (1st gen, franchise, anime) or only used by a handful of people (the technical forums for game coding and that boring crap), they serve a central role to the purpose of the site and forum. So that stuff gets a bit of preference. So for a new Off topic forum, there should be a demand for a certain section before one is created. We have had a number of "serious" topics come up, so Debate was created. If the first page of Off Topic had like 66% video game threads, then a Video Game (non Pokemon) forum would be warranted. If Creative Discussion had 50% threads discussing novels and 20% threads discussing comic books, then a Literature forum might be warranted. But neither of these situations is really happening. Anyway, since I'm kinda lazy, I'm closing this. Forum suggestions/additions should really go in the Forum Feedback near the topic anyway.
  12. Maybe this is a technicality, but isn't any pkm file legal, since there's no way to obtain a digital file of a Pokemon without the use of an external device?
  13. There's not much to critique. It's literally a one move difference on a standard set, without even EVs posted. And I didn't flame you. Sometimes critiques of sets can be harsh. Can't handle it? Er...don't post? For a decent original set, see the Amnesia Snorlax a few posts up. Making a minor move-set change does not make it a unique set.
  14. Off topic is not your personal tech help forum. Making TWO threads for I-pod help is not discussable at all to anyone who isn't you or the person helping you. I'd suggest going to Google and looking up those that have similar problems, maybe go to a tech web site/forum and ask for help there.
  15. This really isn't a "help me mod my ipod" forum. I'd recommend posting on their website and asking there. It also seems a bit too close to asking for copyrighted links, so I'm pre-emptively closing this. Sorry.
  16. That's really not a unique set. It's use a Curse-Rest Talk with a different move (and a rather crappy one at that).
  17. Ok, congratulations. You wasted a whole lot of money for something you could've done yourself at little to no cost. *closing*
  18. There's a mega thread for in-game teams in the RMT forum.
  19. I'll be the first to agree I don't like the design of Garchomp all that much. But battling wise, Salamence is not a watered down Garchomp. Flygon is a much better example of a watered down Garchomp, though even he gets a few advantages (Levitate ability but still gets the same typing, access to U-Turn, Fly, STAB Dig without being screwed by EQ, and Roost, and 2/3 of the elemental punches)
  20. Heatran as a suicide lead seems fairly pointless. Azelf can run 3/4 of this exact same set, and can Taunt. Has better speed, better attack, and only 5 base points less in special attack. The reason to run Shuca Berry over Focus Sash is so Heatran is more than just a lead. You can take it out after it lays down Stealth Rock and save it for later in the game. So change it to Shuca Berry or switch to Azelf. Gyarados is standard. But with SR, sand storm, and life orb, it'll have a very short life span. Ditto with Salamence. Tyranitar is standard However, all threeof these Pokemon ARE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. All 3 are stat boosting DD physical sweepers. There's no need for three of them, and Tyranitar being on the same team ensures the other two will die quickly. Magnezone is standard, but I don't really recommend exploding it since steel trapping is very useful. Weavile is standard. So, let's run this down: Of your 6 Pokemon, only Tyranitar will be able to actually take any hits. And because it has the standard 252/252/6 spread, it won't be taking that many. THREE STEALTH ROCK WEAK POKEMON. The only Pokemon you can kind of counter is Scizor. You have no clear counter for anything else. This isn't really a team. This is 6 OU Pokemon with copy/pasted Smogon sets with no clear thought or strategy behind them. I'm closing this. Feel free to re-post when you put roles/descriptions into your post.
  21. Unfortunately, the Competitive Battling forum and the RMT sub-forum isn't all that active, and Shoddy battle chat is little more than "lol!/cool logd00der". I don't see why there can't be one mega-thread discussion for assigning mentors/mentees, and any one-on-one conversation can be done via PM or off-site.
  22. There are too many dumb posts like this in the thread. It's barely on the second page. Everything you need to know is on the first page. Any more "TLDR" comments like that will get infracted.
  23. Lead Ape should be doing stuff that other leads can't do. Weavile, for example, can Fake Out, Taunt, Counter, and gets priority Ice Shard and Pursuit. Ambipom, the other big Fake Out lead, can Fake Out, Thunder Wave, U-Turn, and gets elemental punches. Infernape gets offensive stats from both sides of the spectrum, Fake Out, Taunt, AND Stealth Rock, blaze boosts Fire moves, Close Combat, Counter, and Encore. Fake Out is essential on any Lead Ape. Taunt really isn't since Weavile and Aerodactyl do it much better. Counter is a similar case in which Weavile also does it much better. So the #2 most important move is Stealth Rock. #3 and #4 are the toss ups. You COULD use U-Turn, but Lead Ape isn't going to be very helpful later in the game. So ignore it. Encore can be great for early game stat boosters, which is what I'd recommend. And then in the 4th slot, stick either Fire Blast or Close Combat. Dump your offensive EVs into whichever you choose. I can do a full rate later.
  24. This much is correct. Christianity traces it's roots to Judaism (because it started out as a sect of it), which traces it's root to Abraham via Isaac. Islan traces it's root to Abraham via Ishmael. Islam believes Jesus Christ is a prophet, and one of the more important jobs. There are tons of stories of Jesus in the Koran, and even more in Islamic books that weren't included. Adam and Eve and the Great Flood are also featured. Muhammad is the final and most important prophet. He is not the equivalent to Christianity's Jesus Christ. This is not a thread for preaching. Take it elsewhere. That's why they're called the Abrahamic religions. It's not outdated to the millions of followers of Judaism. lol. And I say that as a Catholic. Again, stop with the preaching. Not the thread (or even forum) for this. Ding-ding-ding. I can't believe I'm agreeing with Varna. If you all feel the need to put not-so-subtle "my religion is correct" crap into the posts, it'll be very hard to have a healthy discussion. I'd suggest you either drop it, or if you can't, find a religious message board for your faith and post there.
  25. Generally, people make mono type teams if they're signed up for some gimmick tournament or something of the sort. And usually, those tournaments will allow 1-3 non-type Pokemon to be allowed. Otherwise, the team is very easily destroyed. Outside of steel and MAYBE dragon and fighting (since fighting's weaknesses of psychic and flying are relatively rare attack types, mono type teams can't work and win besides luck.
