  1. The point of Wobbuffet and Garchomp being put in Ubers is that they don't work well in OU. EDIT: Also, I agree with randomspot555. We should not have endless amounts of in between labels. Just one label that will mean that we haven't decided where it should go. The proccess should always be the same. Can it work in the lowest? Why? If not, Can it work in the next up? Why? If not, Can it work in the next up? Why? If not, then it will go in the highest. The details of how we'll decide "if not" based on the "why" that are provided is something we should also figure out. I think that everyone should be allowed to give their opinion. Logic trumps all. So if someone can give a well formed and backed up logical explanation of why someone works or doesn't work somewhere then it doesn't matter if they are not the person who battles the most on shoddy.
  2. How much would these have to be modified under what seems like what were headed for (4 tiers)?
  3. That's still ambiguous. If you make it shiny for yourself, and trade it when it hatches the Anti-Shiny code still activates since it checks the information of the person who received the egg and not the one who hatches it. So it must be shiny for the other person, also with this there's 1 chance to do it legitimately since once you trade the egg the game is saved and you can't get another one right away.
  4. Not sure what you are saying here. You mean a shiny spread for the person receiving or for the person who it will be traded to?
  5. CuleX is now moderator of 1st and 2nd Generation Pokémon Games and 3rd Generation Pokémon Games Congratulations :grog:
  6. I think we should have tiers that don't depend on usage at all. Sure usage might be a good approximation for how good a pokemon is. But rather we might set up the tiers such that we have 3 tiers (not counting ubers). A pokemon should not move up to a higher tier just because its being used more. If it can safely live in a lower tier then, they should be in that tier. The basic principle that we might apply is, can this pokemon be in the low tier, without breaking it? If so, that's were it will be, if not, then we ask, can this pokemon be in the middle tier without breaking it? If so that's where it will be. The point of testing is that we can see whether a pokemon breaks a particular tier or not. Its basically going to be similar to the proccess that smogon uses, when someone is moving down, just the part where pokemon move up due to increased usage is eliminated. Of course we need an idea of where to start and for that we can use Smogon's as a starting point or with some modifications that Wraith and Bob have been working on. Yes, that is a good concept. What I don't think we should follow is how pokemon move up by usage. Also if he have a system that doesn't take into account usage, then our tiers will only change when a new game forces it too. Agreed. That should be in the rules somewhere. Well, being new to shoddy is not too much of an issue. Even though the environment is different that wi-fi, we can just think of what would best define tiers. We can even use what smogon has done as an approximation then adjust, no longer taking usage into account. This just has to do with battling, we can apply the same thing to wi-fi theory. Maybe the outcome might be different depending on the results of the tests. But this is nothing particular to shoddy. But yes, we will need a method for how testing will take place.
  7. Now that battling is going to be receiving more attention, I would like us to continue and put an end to this discussion. Basically we can either go with having tiers be defined by usage or not and if not, then by what. Like Enkidu said, in the usage system is narrows down to two tiers. I think we can work out a system like what GGFan suggested. Basically, all pokemon which don't break the lower tier should be part of the lower tier and everyone else except Ubers should be part of the higher tier. No reason to remove someone from the lower tier just because they are being used more in the higher tier. After some discussion, the possiblilty of having three main tiers came up. For example, they can be low, middle, and high with ubers being the ban list. Membership in the tiers would be determined by whether they can safely be placed there.
  8. As was posted, I confirmed that there is a bug in the proccess that copies the IVs that are stored for the pokemon that you are trying to capture to the one that goes to your team or box when you catch it. This bug affects R/S/FR/LG. It was fixed for Emerald. In R/S the PID/IVs of the roamer are set when you see the TV after beating the pokemon league. In FR/LG they are set after you fix the machine in island one. You can SR in all cases. but The IVs are a max of 31/7/0/0/0.
  9. Firstly as CuleX would say, this thread was not formulated correctly, so after my post I will change the title. PC vs Mac is usually a misnomer. Macs are also personal computers. For a hardware debate it should be Mac vs Non-Mac. For a Operating system debate it would be Windows vs. OS X vs. Linux, etc Now, technicalities asside. My OS of choice is the Fedora distribution of linux. Firstly, its free. There are tons of free programs for especially the type which I use which are for programming. Fedora has even developed a very nice windows cross compiler which makes it so those who know how to use it don't have to touch a windows system again. I use windows alot as well and its ok, I simply prefer linux. With OS X I do have my gripes. Firstly, you can only install (legally) on Mac hardware. To make programs that run on OS X they need to be compiled on a machine running OS X. There are even legal issues that are preventing the developent of an osx cross compiler. This ties in to the hardware debate as Macs are deemed very closed as opposed to other machines. The usage of OS X would probably go way up if it wasn't for the requirement of having to have a Mac to run it. Apple's business philosophy is one that I don't agree with. The advantage of a Mac is that I can install windows, OS X and Linux on it. But since this is done because of Apple's policies rather than an actual advantage in Mac hardware, this doesn't count as a plus for Macs. That said, I am probably going to buy a Mac in the near future. I will still use Linux as my primary system but I will be able to have all three on one machine. This way I can compile programs for users of each OS. There's no reason to punish OS X users for Apple's bad policies.
  10. From what I have seen those are in the respective handlers. For example, abilities which are used in battle are checked for in the place where they would activate. Abilities which are used out of battle would be checked for in the code that handles what happens outside. This is all in ARM/Thumb ASM so don't expect it to be easy to find or edit.
  11. Did you even read the rest of the posts?... and we are the original source for that information.
  12. Sorry about that guys, it has been fixed.
  13. No check happens when you receive it. They knew you could trade it anyways. The check happens when it hatches. However, the check happens before the trainer data of the person who received it is over written with that of the person hatcing it. That means, if it wasn't going to be shiny for the original trainer, there is a chance it will be for the person hatching it.
  14. The competive battle section now has its own category. Expect many changes to it coming soon.
  15. Remeber, they might not want shinys but they make mistakes. That's what happened with manaphy. They tried to prevent it from being shiny and in most cases it will work but they messed up and overlooked a possibility.

  17. Fixed. Although, personally I always use the link next to Welcome to get to my profile.

  19. Thanks for the nice thoughts guys. I am closing this because its not quite appropriate and I don't want it to start a precendent for "do you like ___" or "do you hate ____" threads about members. Appreciation messages can go in the VMs. Once again, thanks.
  20. We have had reCAPCHA activated since we opened. Apparently there are people who dedicate themselves to typing in CAPCHAs and then let bots take over.
  21. In case anyone still sees this, the shoddy server is back up.

    My Intro =]

Welcome. I'm glad you like it here.
  24. I did not try it out of curiosity. I think it happened accidentally back when I was trying to make the code to allow (new) alternate forms on wi-fi and the union room. When I posted that I looked in platinums text and found it, to be sure I wrote it correctly.
