  1. Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure date/time don't matter at all, as long as the date/time is after the event where the Pokemon could have been obtained. Once you save the Wondercard and transfer the Pokemon to the Pokemart, won't the guy be there until you claim the Pokemon? So you could take days, weeks, or even months to get it from the guy who is in the Pokemart, and then it will register that you obtained it on that day, which, even though the event isn't running, still makes the Pokemon completely legal?
  2. So if I make him in Pokesave, set it to 00?
  3. What is the 85h bit for a Darkrai caught at Newmoon Isle in Platinum? Also, if anyone knows what moves that Darkrai knows when you first catch it, I would appreciate it.
  4. I use Luxury Balls for any Pokemon I think has a decent chance of actually being used. Since it is better than a Master Ball (it's the only Pokeball with a permanent benefit), and cooler looking, it's my most heavily used one for Pokemon on my team. Except for Pokeballs ('cause all the bred Pokemon come in them). Quick Balls, Dusk Balls, and Ultra Balls for everything else.

    Pokemon XD

was probably my favorite Pokemon game. I never played Colisseum (largely because when I heard about it, it was described as not having a story mode, the way PBR is now), so I didn't suffer from the "it's just like Colisseum" syndrome. The game's focus on Double Battles was great. We've had them for a while now, but they are still vastly underutilized, even though the list of moves and abilities that are only helpful in Double Battles keeps getting longer. I don't know why Double Battles haven't shown up more often in Pokemon games, but it's depressing. The Shadow Pokemon are brilliantly executed. They're powerful to begin with, but they can't level (and I don't know if they can EV train). As you purify them, they get a mix of normal moves and shadow moves, so you get more utility out of them without being forced to purify. As you progress in the game you will have to purify them to survive, because your opponents keep getting stronger, but it can be a difficult decision. They also serve as handy tanks when capturing other Shadow Pokemon, as they can resist those super powerful attacks. Shadow Pokemon were a really interesting idea, and I'd like to see the explored some more. Cipher is one of the best villain teams the games have had, and the only one that didn't steal the "Team" name from Team Rocket. Yeah, we had Team Snagem, but they're minor players in this (though they do have quite an interesting influence on the plot at times). They have a solid and workable plan for their world domination, and are willing to work with more subtlety than most other Pokemon villains. Plus they have the advantage of a really nice goal: They're trying not only to take over the world, but make the Pokemon in it look totally awesome (seriously, how can you purify Shadow Lugia? It looks too dang cool). The plot on the whole was great. It was a standard travel around and save the world, but with the removal of the long routes between areas and the lack of Pokemon Gyms means that the plot got a lot more focus. I'm not saying that I dislike either the gyms or the routes, but without them there did seem to be more time spent on the battle against the villains than in most other Pokemon games (sometimes it feels like you're saving the world on your way to get badges, not the other way around). Eevee was a great choice of starter, but I really, really wish they would give its evolutions more than 2 attack types to choose from (Eevee and the 'Eons have some of the most limited movesets in the game). Yes, I chose a Psychic Pokemon, but I would like to be able to attack with some other movetypes as well! The limited availibility of Pokemon made for a rather interesting team mechanic. Grabbing a team of favorites to run with was a lot more involved when you had access to much fewer Pokemon to start with, and you had to constantly consider the Shadow advantages/resistances. You still had access to a lot of Pokemon, but they were broken down into reasonable amounts, so you didn't spend hours hunting down each and every rare one when you were supposed to be out beating the bad guys. And catching them all was actually part of saving the world, so it enhanced the plot, rather than subtracted from it. I love the mainstream Pokemon games. They are fun and simple, but with enough depth to keep me coming back to them. But had a lot that I would like to see carry over to them (though they do have a lot that could have used as well).
  6. I'm sure that Nintendo would have loved to name them as they did with Fire Red and Leaf Green. I mean, it's a fairly simple naming convention: Fire is Red, so we got Fire Red. But what is gold colored? Well, gold is. But Gold Gold doesn't really sound that great. So they chose something else. It's not the best name in the world, but don't criticize it for "not fitting in with the rest of the naming conventions", because, seriously, how were they supposed to?
  7. I had heard that those Pokemon were chosen for being ones that can't be caught in the wild. From the original 151, those are the only non-legendaries that do not appear in the wild (except Farfetch'd and Porygon, I think). Eevee is a gift, Snorlax is a one time event, and the starters are only availible from Oak. Pikachu was chosen because of the anime though, which is also why he was for a long time the highest level Pokemon that could be encountered (a tribute to the strength of Ash's Pikachu). And Red's Pikachu will probably have the Light Orb when next we see him.
  8. I hope it is not a new forme. Most formes are availible to all the Pokemon of that species (ie: Any Deoxys can acquire any of it's formes). That would rob the Pichu of some of its uniqueness. Although if we see it in combat, a new forme probably will be the way it is handled, even if we can't unlock that forme ourselves. Otherwise there would be a lot of reprogramming to give a Pokemon a unique sprite.
  9. You're right, actually, he didn't have his starter. Still, I'd rather take Leaf's Blastoise than change the contents of Red's team. And, in general, I think it has been a good decision. I think the kid-friendly focus has been part of what has made Pokemon what it is today. The brilliant combination of simple, easy to pick up mechanics with the depth and strategy that keeps us coming back for more.
  10. Eh, we've seen enough other trainers with starters in other games by now that I think it will be ok. And after all, Gym Leader Blue still had his starter, didn't he? At least your parents acknowledge each other's existence. Remember the line by your rival's mom? "He's so impatient, I wonder who he takes after?" We've seen his dad, he's just as wild and impatient as your rival is. Just how hard was it for his mom to remember that?
  11. Perhaps, but if we assume Pokemon Yellow was the source of Red's starters, his Blastoise wasn't a starter Pokemon, so she could still get one. Although, honestly, I'm a little disappointed that there are no relationships (even among NPCs) in the games. Only real downside to Pokemon's kid-friendly direction, I suppose.
  12. Also, adding Leaf to the game won't necessarily steal Red's thunder, as Red could still be a stronger trainer, with higher level Pokemon (reaching to, what, level 90 now, probably?). So Leaf could be there with level 80-85 Pokemon. Still a powerful and fun trainer, but not a threat to Red's superiority (if we give him level 85-90 Pokemon). Although I think Leaf "keeping Red company" is a little out of the bounds of Pokemon. There are still no love interests for any of the characters in the games.
  13. And I'll make a Jigglypuff named Kirby, and your Piplup will never win! Getting a male won't be hard, since the male/female ratio for starters (and almost all my favorite Pokemon, for that matter) is 87.5% male. Nintendo doesn't want to make it easy to breed them until you get far enough to get a Ditto (National Dex). But, yeah, you can reload, but you have to watch through the entire scene where you get it. If you're doing it in D/P, check your Pokemon's stats in the battle with the Starly, or you'll have to wait through a couple more scenes to see what you got.
  14. Ok, the music thing would be kind of awesome. But any camera features would just be gimmickry that the Pokemon games don't need. Nintendo did a wonderful job of not sticking pointless gimmicks in with the touch screen (except the Wi-Fi plaza, which they made nice and unobtrusive), and I don't want them to ruin that in these new games. If they make a special edition DSi, I'm fine with that. I'd prefer a DSLite, because I don't think that a camera and music editor are a valid trade for losing the ability to play the entire awesome lineup of GBA games, but I can still understand that Nintendo wants to promote its new products. As long as the DSi doesn't alter the features of the game. They can add in camera features in something like the Wi-Fi plaza, where it won't obtrude on gameplay. And the ability to customize music would be alright (most likely letting you play your own songs on the radio. Still unobtrusive and optional). Just don't make the games DSi exclusive, and don't remove the Pal Park/GBA Link features.
  15. When you first pick them. Save before you have to choose, and you can reload and get new stats for your starters. But the cutscene before you get to choose is kind of long, so it can be annoying to go through.
  16. Sure they will. Just as they did in Platinum. You get the Sinnoh Dex data for Manaphy from a picture, and you get the data for Dialga/Palkia through seeing them in an event, even though you don't actually encounter them in battle. And you get Mesprit's data by encountering it at the lake without actually needing to fight it. Every other Sinnoh Dex Pokemon can either be found in an event battle (Giratina and the other lake legendaries), or on a trainer. You could have the full Sinnoh Dex as soon as you defeated Cynthia. I can easily see us finding pictures of the guardian birds, or watching them fly overhead, and seeing the legendary beasts when they first run away from tower.
  17. I'm not assuming that Pal Park will be a feature of the new games. I am simply pointing out that there isn't really a reason not for it to be, unless the remove it specifically to tailor the game for the DSi. Pokemon has a long standing theme of "Gotta Catch 'Em All", and even with these new games, without Pal Park and the GBA link, you can't do it (unless they add in all the Gen 3 legendaries to these two new games, along with all the legendaries that already exist in Johto). And Pal Parking to D/P/Pt and then trading to HG/SS is going to feel awkward and unnecessary. Additionally, Pokemon would make a bad promotional game for the DSi because the Pokemon games don't use any of the improved features of the DSi, unless they add in camera features. And camera features will be nothing but gimmickry, and won't actually add anything positive to the game. If they make a DSi special for the Pokemon games, that's fine. If they remove the GBA Link to replace it with camera gimmicks in the game, that's not.
  18. That is for Pal Park pokemon. But I understood that you can catch wild Pokemon that aren't Pal Park transfers elsewhere in Sinnoh, but only if you have a GBA Pokemon game in the GBA slot. For example, you can catch Sandshrews in Wayward Cave, if you have a Leaf Green in the GBA slot. My question is, does the Leaf Green have to be in that slot anytime you wish to find a Sandshrew in Wayward Cave, or, once the game registers that you had a Leaf Green hooked up, will it stay that way forever, even if you later remove the GBA game?
  19. [shinysprite]471[/shinysprite] and [shinysprite]144[/shinysprite]
  20. [sprite]105[/sprite] Fear the Thick Club. Though Sandslash is probably second.
  21. It would have been dominated, had any of the other Pokemon attacked it. Palkia was largely ignored until the last round, it isn't exactly surprising that it survived. Dialga is my favorite from the D/P/Pt trio. Palkia may have a better signature move and slightly better stats, but Dialga's typing is one of the best in the game.
  22. My first shiny was either the Red Gyarados from Pokemon Gold, or a Weedle caught during the Bug Catching Contest in Gold. I don't remember which I caught first, though. Unfortunately, Shiny Weedle only got me second in that competition. That's the only time I didn't get first place.
  23. I understand that in addition to Pal Park transfers, certain Pokemon become obtainable in D/P/Pt if you have a GBA Pokemon game in the GBA slot of your DS. Once you put the game in, is that Pokemon always obtainable, even if you remove the game? Or must you put the GBA game in any time you wish to encounter one of those Pokemon in the wild?
  24. Do you guys think that Red will reclaim his title as the Trainer with the highest level Pokemon in the normal game? After all, Red in G/S had the record for highest level Pokemon encountered (minus the Battle Towers that scaled to your level) for a long time with his level 81 Pikachu, higher even than Arceus. The recent release of Platinum changed this, with your rival's starter being able to reach 85 (and a level 100 Magikarp that could be fished up in the resort). While I don't think Red will get any level 100 Pokemon, I do think we might see his team get a buff that will put him back on top of your rival in Platinum. What do you guys think?
  25. Ubers were never banned. Legendaries were banned. A lot of Ubers are legendaries, but not all. Pseudo-legendaries like Garchomp, Dragonite, Metagross, Salamence, and Tyranitar should all be ok, despite being classified by some as Ubers. Also, IIRC, Latios and Latias are allowed, though Soul Dew is not.
