  1. Good point. But I don't want to go through the hassle of registering for a forum and repeatedly translating every web page. Not saying it isn't possible. I'm just not motivated enough to do so. Good luck to whoever gets in.
  2. Most of the posts are just him talking about how he saw the hack checker being used. He has no overt reason to lie or make anything up, but of course like any non-Nintendo/PUSA/Pokemon Co. official, their word should be taken with a grain of salt. It's also very possible that all of the hacks that the device checked weren't actually legal in every sense of the word, hence leading to thinking it's a lot more effective than it actually is.
  3. I got excited, but then the registration page is all in greek. Any advice on getting around that?
  4. There are a few floating around, but most that I've seen are at least a bit outdated.
  5. The problem with Croabat is it's typing. It takes SE damage from electric (Zapdos) and ice (Articuno). Add in that Hypnosis' accuracy is 60%, and without access to False Swipe, and Smeargle becomes a better option.
  6. Use a high level Smeargle and have plenty of Max Potions in store, with this move set (Make sure it's at least 10 levels above whatever the birds are). It needs to be very high so it can actually withstand hits: Spore, False Swipe, Mean Look, filler. Filler move can be a self-heal move, or Protect. Start with Mean Look AND DON'T LET SMEARGLE FAINT, EVER. Also, don't switch out. Spore it, then false swipe down to one HP. Spore again when it wakes up. This is because Sleep status is the best status to increase your chances at catching it. And unlike confusion, burn, and poison, it won't hurt the bird. After you mean look it, you also have the option of tossing Quick Balls for the next 4 turns. From then on out, Dusk Balls are the best way to go (assuming it's night time), though Timer Balls will be equally as useful if you get past turn #40. Wobbuffet gets points for trapping it in, but Wobbuffet will probably OHKO the Pokemon if it uses Counter/Mirror Coat and also can't provide status. Dusknoir can Mean Look, but Pressure stalling increases the chance of it struggling to death.
  7. Awesome that it's up so soon. Will it be compatible with the US release of Plat? I'd check myself, but I'm not at home so I haven't opened up or downloaded the WC yet.
  8. I rarely even touch them. At least now they usually come with a Poke or 2 or 3 you can transfer to the main DS games. But to me, they range from "decent" to "horrible crappy cash in" (Pokemon Racing)
  9. The most popular tiers are Smogons, which as I'm sure you know are test with 6v6 single battles. While we could theorymon all day about various ubers and how they perform in doubles, I think we can at least say it isn't nearly the threat it is in singles. Same goes for Wobbuffet. Especially at the official tournaments, where it's partner Tyranitar is banned, and Hippowdon is rarely used, so it doesn't have a sandstorm buddy. And the Discharge Zapdos strategy is usually seen a mile away.
  10. Sorry OP, but this is very much an in-game team. Weavile, for example, should never be using special attacks.
  11. Garchomp was extensively tested by Smogon and it was determined that it overcentralized their metagame on Shoddy. Many wi-fi battle communities adopted similar rules, and I've heard of at least 2 communities who banned Garchomp even before Smogon put it up for a vote. It was a ridiculously centralizing Pokemon that basically caused a team to have 2-3 "counters" just to account for it, which leaves your team wide open to a common partner of Garchomp, Tyranitar. That's right. After half of your team is designed to take down Garchomp, your other 3 team members have to take care of the 50 other Pokemon in OU. Sounds fun, right? The TLDR version is it's typing, almost perfect move pool, ability, and great base stats with a unique base speed, made it one of the most broken Pokemon outside of Wobbuffet. As for team building, Smogon is a good place to start. But more than a few of their EV spreads are either outdated, suck, or up to personal preference. Read their Introductory guides at the top of their Articles page, and start making changes to their sets first. Soon enough you'll be able to come up with some unique sets of your own.
  12. I think a good sub-category for a sweeper would be "Glass Cannon." These are Pokemon with high attack and/or special attack (and usually high speed) but will rarely survive one hit. A common item with them is Focus Sash. Pokemon like Aerodactyl and Weavile on the physical side, and Gengar on the special side.
  13. I think the upload capabilities of the forum are just fine. Make a specific forum for uploading files, with the same 5 or 6 categories the upload bin had and give them stickied megathreads.
  14. ^^^ I disagree about the Choice items. It's a hinderance if you have multiple Chocied Pokes that ALSO use U-Turn. But I've used up to 3 choiced before. And with the new amount of Trick users via Plat move tutors, many can dump their Choice items now if they're no longer needed. I've never really gotten the point of posting a "Threat List", which basically goes through most of OU and details how you'll take them down. Primarily because if you have an answer for one Pokemon, it can probably take on 5 others that are close enough. For example, a Blissey counter isn't needed, because alll a Blissey counter needs is a physical sTAB move. That's it. (or Roar, etc...but I'm overtly simplifying it). A counter to Salamence can also take on Gyarados (Porygon-2). And so on. Now while having an abundance of common weaknesses isn't BRIGHT, there's nothing overtly wrong with having 2-3 weak of the same type unless it's ground or fighting. Because it's much more about being familiar with your opponent, knowing how to use strategy, and a slight amount of luck. Knowing your opponent is a big part of this. Stay in one community long enough, and you're likely to start winning most of the battles. So I like to take myself out of a community and start elsehwere, where I'm against new types of thinking, opponents I've never faced before, etc... [/end rant]
  15. First thing I did was turn off sigs. I've seen more than enough "creepy" sigs in other Pokemon forums, so I'm just not taking the risk. I access these forums from public computers quite often.
  16. Both were done by women. This isn't uncommon. People doing voice acting aren't limimted to characters of the same sex.
  17. All a Bad Egg is is a result of a transfer error when copying the save file's Pokemon. I've had 100% legit Pokes get turned into a bad egg. I've heard it also checks for illegal EV distribution, but I can't find a source for that.
  18. Well there really aren't that many RMTs right now, but they can basically fall into 3 sections: It's in-game so anything will do. Posting a moveset/ev spread/whatever doesn't tell us anything about your role for the Poke or strategy your employing. [or insert actual rate here] I'm not saying you AREN'T a good rater. But for this community (IMO), a good rater should be established by what they've done HERE, not what they did elsewhere. But I think a RMT forum would be a benefit for establishing specific rules for RMT threads. And while I'm at it, in the case of a RMT forum being established, here's what I'd propose: In-game teams get a "megathread" similar to the current RMT thread currently posted. This is because ANYTHING can beat the gyms/E4 with enough potions and leveling up. However, interesting gimmick teams and strategies are possible so they can be discussed in one thread. Similarly, a megathread could be established for teams used for official tournaments, at least until the tournaments eliminate the public participation portion. Competitive RMT threads should be assumed to follow the tier list established by this site and use standard clauses (OHKO/Species/Evasion/Sleep in an OU environment) unless otherwise noted, with the exception being RMT threads for Battle Tower/Frontier. Posts should be in some sort of readable format that include the Pokemon species, held item, nature, ability, move set, EV Spread, and some description of it's role on your team and the strategy of your team as a whole. RMT threads should point out if they're using a Battle Simulator like Shoddy or the Wi-Fi environment. There are a few differences between the two, namely the lack of certain event only Pokemon (Celebi, Jirachi) and Hidden Power being far less used on Wi-Fi than on Shoddy.
  19. Really, raters and the quality they give can only really be told over time. Considering that there's two forums where a RMT could arguably go (Wi-Fi battle/trade and the General Pokemon Games which has the RMT thread), a RMT forum seems well warranted.
  20. If you're not a "strategy person", then you aren't ready to build a team. I suggest reading these: http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/intro_comp_pokemon http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/pokemon_dictionary
  21. Check Gold Ursaring's event guide at Gamefaq's in the D/P section for event info. As for downloading it, it's my understanding that there'll be a massive posting of 3rd gen/GBA era event files at some point; though which will be posted is hard to say, since many GBA events floating around are actually hacks.
  22. Before I make the rest of my reply, I can't ask much more than that the staff have considered this and think it's for the best. That's ultimately all I can ask for. While I can see your point, I can't see why excessive swearing can't be strictly defined. There are some swearing that becomes almost part of natural talk as like space filler, whereas others such as racial slurs or homosexual slurs, are much more. The warez part is something I overlooked. Considering the nature of the site, it does make sense to give people a second chance.
  23. They probably aren't thinking very much about Wi-Fi battling when making these. Remember that this is a franchise aimed at children. They aren't thinking of strategy or IVs when battling, they're just thinking of which move looks the coolest when used. EDIT: Also, the key item will likely be released at least for Japanese Platinum (based on precedent), so an original Arceus set can be legitimately caught and trained.
  24. Before I start, this is not a post against the rules. I understand the need for rules and why they exist. I'm also not here to step on the administration's toes. But the infraction system, which seems especially rampant among Pokemon forums, doesn't really seem to be all that efficient. In some cases, it makes a generally good user with a "rap sheet" of crap that really doesn't mean much. In many forums, the definition of "Spam" and "excessive swearing" seem to fluctuate. Is it spam if the topic of conversation is not the original topic, technically off topic, but evolved naturally from the discussion? Is it a 2 sentence reply vs a 5 word reply? Before I came to Pokemon forums, I thought SPAM and advertising were the same, and apparently they aren't. Excessive swearing is also something that seems ripe for "at an admin's discretion." Hopefully this won't be an issue at Project Pokemon, but at Serebii's forums, some mods are more lenient/strict on it, and a few forums have rules for swearing that are cOMPLETELY different than anything else. Especially in these two areas which seem to be very vague, firm boundaries should be established in defining what is and isn't acceptable. There are cases where one mod would know better, like if they mod a specific forum that has it's own rules regarding trading/battling/making cheats/etc..., but I don't see why a consensus can't be reached on what is spam and what is excessive swearing. (Maybe, for swearing, a censor could be used that replaces swear words with ****. And instead of "swearing" as a rule, "censor evasion" would be, which is much more clear cut. However, I understand the site is new and that might require a new patch or something like that). The other issue I have with it is...the system itself. Warez talk/linking, impersonation accoutns, blatant advertising are all things that I don't see needing a second chance. It's really hard to "Accidentally" do these, and I don't see established users ever breaking them. From ALL types of forums I visit, these are newcomers coming here for just that one purpose. I would like to go on and make suggestions on new systems, but I really don't know what's available to you. Manual bans that are either permanent or last for a fixed amount of time perhaps? Eliminates "points" and gives immediate action.
  25. To be fair, this wasn't mentioned in the first post, and the OP didn't say so until earlier today well after Paradox made his post. It's okay to assume people are going by standard rules when they don't specify.
