    Other shows have events that indicate a certain age too. For example, Bart and Lisa are always in the same grade (except for a handful of stories where they get moved up or down for the plot). And the Simpsons have been on much longer than Pokemon has, even having characters die (and stay dead) and even contain references to current and historical events. While I agree, *officially he's still 10 and the anime creators haven't indicated anything otherwise*, even giving a generous episode=1 day assumption**, it's still only 591 episodes to date. That can easily fit into a bit under 2 years. So he hasn't even hit 12 yet. **Yes, I know, some 2-3 episode arcs are said to take place over a number of weeks, like the initial voyage to Brock's Gym in Kanto. But other 2-3 episode arcs take place all in one day. So having 1 day=1 episode is just for the sake of the argument. And I'm not counting movies since their place in continuity, if in continuity at all, is debatable except for movie #1.

    It's not like this wasn't known before. There's no shortage of websites with information on Hidden Power. EDIT: Re-opened to discuss hidden power. If this is really popular, maybe we can start up a big ol mega thread for breeding, soft re-setting, and stuff like that.

    I'm perfectly aware of what's going on, as far as testing, at Smogon. Not only do I keep up with their forums, but Jumpman also posts in the Pokemon thread over at the Something Awful forums. The point of the post is that two posters made two false claims: That Mew has been tested (it hasn't, and the point was that ubers/clauses/whatever should be tested so the research is reflective of the current metagame, not whatever happened in RBY/GSC/RSE) and that all Pokemon have been tested. Of course, regardless of the specific example (which I pulled out of my hat, but just so happened to be true), the meaning of the message was the same. The metagame and the rules that regulate it should be based on what's going on now. This is especially true for clauses that haven't been tested for years (OHKO, Evasion), or Pokemon that were just automatically bumped up to tiers (Manaphy, for example, was bumped to Uber without a test after it spent some time in OU). You have the right to your own opinion. About the need to test pokemon tiers/clauses/etc, for example. You do not have the right to your own facts (they have been tested).

    While I don't want this discussion to go much further than...well, my post because I'm selfish (though you can take it to the Team Building thread or the All Around Team thread), as you progress and gain experience, you'll find that even small tweaks in the standard sets will greatly help, depending on your style of battling. It's especially true when you get thrown into different environments. You can't play PBR Wi-Fi the same way you play on Smogon's server on Shoddy, or at a Nintendo Doubles tournament.

    How many "points" are added for each level are relatively random. But since legendary are generally caught at a higher level, they'll gain more points as they level up, compared to a 3-stage evolution which'll just get a gradual increase in points.

    I don't even know what this means. Regardless if I use "legit h4x0r pokemon", that doesn't reduce the 6 hour drive time or that there's only a chance of anyone actually getting into the tournaments.

    Yeah, you can say that. But do you build your teams so that, just in case Breloom or Scarf Dark Void Smeargle pops up, every Pokemon can stay awake or attack while asleep? Because if you don't, your teams are just as poorly built as anyone else's. As to other points: As of this Order of Operations, Mew has not been tested and there are responses throughout the thread talking why to/why not to test Mew. It's safe to say not every Pokemon has been tested. Unless you two can source when/where it was tested and what the vote was.

    Yeah, it is very plot device-ey. But the same can be said about most Pokemon on the show. But I'd much rather have a Pokemon who fluctuates in terms of power rather than one that OHKOs everything.

    Are you two new to serial fiction? It's extremely common for fictional universes to take place in a reality where time passes slowly, making characters essentially "ageless." Franchises that have been around much longer than Pokemon do this: Spider-Man (or any number of legacy superheroes), James Bond, The Simpsons, and many more.

    That photo is incredibly fake. As for the names, it's a common tactic for huge franchises to copyright every single name they can think of. Sometimes it's to renew it (Pokemon Red was recently registered), most of the times it's to prevent bootlegs or ripoff games from using similar names, and a few times it's because they were going to be names of games but were changed for one reason or another. Basically, what Gamefreak has registered as names are essentially meaningless. I never played the Gen 2 games and certainly wouldn't mind the re-makes, especially since it could mean a 4th gen Celebi event (which is needed). But do they need to be made? No. Are the "hints" any indication of them? Not really. There's tons of references to Kanto and Hoenn in the 4th gen too. And that DSI=no Pal Park talking point is getting pretty worn out. Nintendo doesn't have an Elite Assassination Squad that is destroying every DS and DS Lite the moment the DSi comes out. They still exist, and rest assured any Pokemon fan who cares already owns a DS/Lite. So it largely doesn't matter. Anybody who starts out playing Pokemon on the DSi probably would never purchase a GBA game anyway.

    I know a few people in the Event WC thread say they'll be attending. Unfortunately, the closest to me is 6+hours away, and that's too much of a drive for only a chance at getting in.

    Baton Pass is almost always an early game strategy. Most BP are weak to (stealth) rock, and since that's laid down at the beginning, that's when BP will be attempted. Some Pokemon, like Jolteon, will attempt a "dry" Baton Pass (passing nothing) in hope to escape Pursuit and/or switch to a resistant/immune Pokemon, depending on the attack they predict. Stealth Rock basically eliminates a late game Baton Pass. Taunt/Trick can cripple BP users, as well as some priority attacks.

    While you're correct in what you post, you also missed the point. Tier and clause decisions should be made with 4th gen testing, not whatever happened in previous generations. Testing an uber, at the very least, gives a community the ability to define WHY it's uber now, rather than just assuming with "Well, it was last time." If the game has changed since OHKO, for example, were tested, then they deserve to be re-tested. Because you can't base a decision for the 4th gen made with 2nd gen evidence. And regardless of how obvious I see Garchomp being where it should be, it should be tested again, because the game has changed. Same will eventually go for Manaphy and Latias.

    That was me misreading. My bad. But as I've witnessed, these things can change. Suicide leads basically bought Aerodactyl from UU to OU, even though that move set was available at the time of his downfall. There are a few that can be easily said and that won't change unless drastic measures are taken place. Blissey is the best special wall, bar none. But much else can be in some sort of change. If you look at the Shoddy statistics, you'll see points when suicide leads are popular and when bulky leads are popular. Donphan might be the preferred Rapid Spinner one month and then Claydol is it the next. I just think it's very hard to assign roles and say how useful a Pokemon is, in the vast majority of cases. Again I should have made clear how I was using that particular word, I apologize. I just wanted to diffuse the whole "omgzers WEEZING IN UU?" flamefest that'll come up. Not specifically directed to you. But too many conversations, when talking about UU in OU, often turn to "Well this pet favorite of mine can beat OU Pokes down, so why's it UU??". To an extent, I agree. There are certainly more important clauses to test than Sleep. But before the massive UU/NU undertaking started at Smogon, there was talk about testing a good chunk of Uber tiered Pokemon in OU. Not because anyone actually thought Mew was viable in OU, but as to have some sort of evidence to back up Mew's uber tiering, rather than "Well, it was uber last gen." Because the 4th gen isn't the 3rd gen. If any site is to make decisions about the 4th gen metagame, it should be using evidence from the 4th gen game, not precedent from previous generations. For example, here's a post that explains (much better than I can) why OHKO moves should be tested: link Replace OHKO with whatever.
