I also try to do this, but most of the time I end up having to fall back on Ultra Balls. I also make a huge effort to catch happiness-based evolution Pokémon with Luxury Balls.

And even if they didn't have a move relearner, you cold always trade it to DPPt and back. But I'm sure they will. I wonder if he'll still take Heart Scales...? -

The problem is that it was announced by an official source, vis a vis the instruction manual. But at least half of the people I've heard from have tested it and said it does not work. -
But to be honest, seeing as (I think?) Celebi was never released via event in the USA (or at least not from Gen III onward), it would kind of make sense if they have a Wonder Card event or something for it. At the very least I think it's safe to assume there will be SOME kind of Celebi distribution, whether or not it uses the shrine.

I wish I had a more reputable source than these ones. And also this. Like I said, I've heard mixed reports. I personally have not had the chance to try it. -
Yeah, Filbe.de doesn't allow external linking to images. But it's also on the Serebii news page right now.

EDIT: I must be the most obtuse person in the world. You're simply saying that the date cannot be used to verify legitimacy as oppsed to legality. However, to be honest the latter is much more important to many people, and it is still very possible (theoretically) to check the legality using the date. I see your point though.
-
I do not claim to be an expert in these matters, but yes, I believe that is how it works. Still, the date on the Trainer Memo would be the date claimed from the green man (and therefore the seed date) anyway, wouldn't it? Thus the possibility of using the date as a means of legality / legitimacy checking still stands.

Lets discuss what HG/SS will do besides being a game
codemonkey85 replied to Destati's topic in Generation 4
You are right of course, but I agree with most everyone else when I say to exclude Kanto would either make no sense or be a punch to the gut. I mean, even with Kanto, I think some serious rework and addition needs to be made for HG and SS to keep up with DPPt on a technical level. Sinnoh is large and in charge. As for the talk of the Orange Islands, I cannot possibly stress enough how much that will never happen. I will personally buy every single person on these forums a pizza of their choosing if I am wrong. A whole pizza. Really. Even if the anime did ever influence the games, weren't the Orange Islands like, a separate region from Kanto? With their own League?- 63 replies

I don't think you dig. They're referring to the date used to determine the seed that the game's PRNG uses to generate PIDs for Pokémon encountered in-game (and possibly event / Wonder Card Pokémon). Not to be confused with what date Pokémon are actually available to be obtained on, which is a different way of checking legality / legitimacy. The important thing is that no matter what the date is on the Pokémon's Trainer Memo page, the former method is (theoretically) still valid; as you said, the latter is not so much.

Hello all. As you may know, the Project Pokémon Wiki has a (rather extensive) documentation on the Diamond and Pearl save file structure. However, there is quite a bit of information missing from this page. Additionally, there is no documentation up regarding the Platinum save file structure. It would be of great benefit to save hacking developers (Sabresite and myself for example), as well as the wiki and site as a whole, if we could get these structures mapped out. And of course, anything that helps Sabresite helps PokéMod. If you have a means for extracting your Diamond / Pearl / Platinum save file(s), and a hex editor (like HxD), you can help map the save file structure by simply making a copy of your save file, making a change, saving, and comparing the previous save with the current save. (By the way, one of our members, evandixon, has created a toolkit to be used for save file mapping.) Additionally, I am going to create a small tool within the next few days with the express purpose of fixing the save file checksums in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. With this tool and a hex editor, you can edit the save file manually, and then load the save to see what changed. EDIT: And here it is. Things this thread has accomplished so far: There is a long list of things to look for specifically, and here are a few in no particular order (admins and mods feel free to edit this list): I will be constantly adding to and editing this post for more details. If anyone is interested in helping out or has any questions, post here, PM me, meet me on IRC, or check out our social group. If we get organized, we can have this thing done in no time, and that will ensure that we are ready to crack HeartGold and SoulSilver when the time comes. DateTimeBytes.zip Journal.zip

PPSE: Can you add feature ______? - POST HERE
codemonkey85 replied to Sabresite's topic in Saves - Research
Oh, hm. I don't know what those values are, but it stands to reason that the language information would be located relatively close to the basic trainer information (like name, gender, ID / SID, etc.), and 0x81 is right at the tail end of all that (for known values, it is between multiplayer avatar and the party Pokémon). My question is, what purpose would reiterating the country info in the save file serve? I might hex edit those bytes to some arbitrary numbers, fix the checksums, and load the game to see what changes. By the way, Sabresite... sorry that we've apparently hijacked your thread. I think when I get home, I will start a new thread for exploring the DPPt save file structure. Recruit some grunts. EDIT: And I did it. -
Especially seeing as how the save file hasn't been entirely mapped yet.

I bet it is. Anyway, I could really go for a (completely legit) Ditto, seeing as I'm playing Platinum and they're not PokéRadar Pokémon anymore. In exchange, I am willing to offer an Abra... I have about fourteen of them (from trying to find a Modest one, still no luck though). If you would like to know the Abras' IVs, Natures, and Abilities, I can get the info, but it will take a while. If that doesn't work for you, then I could use the Ditto to breed a Chimchar for whomsoever is kind and patient enough to wait for me to get to Solaceon. For Ditto's Nature, IVs, etc... I don't really care. Beggars can't be choosers after all. My Friend Code is in my signature. Thanks in advance!

Platinum is not compatible with USA Ranch, as there has not been a patch for it yet. On Platinum's box, it does mention PBR compatibility, but I have heard mixed reports from people. But yeah, I'm pretty sure only two or three flash carts are compatible with Wii connectivity, and the CycloDS is one of them (if not the only one). Incidentally, does anyone know if this is a firmware issue, or a hardware limitation? -

I must have been half asleep when last I posted. Obviously Diamond and Pearl have already been released everywhere... why wait for Platinum? In any case, if those are the values that you got in your save file(s), then the values at 0x00081/0x40081 do match the values here. In which case I am going to stick that byte in the Wiki page. -
I don't disagree on any point in particular, but for in-game stuff, the Cyndaquil family still has the edge over more of the Gym Leaders than the other starters, due to Type advantages.

What I meant by "Rudolph's Tool" is Rudolph's NDS Backup Tool Wifi (v0.31f). There is a guide to using it, and I made a thread with some tips as well.

codemonkey85 replied to Sabresite's topic in Saves - Research
Having begun a new save file on both a Japanese version and a USA version of Pokémon Platinum, in which I chose the same gender, the same trainer name, and the same rival name, I noticed several differences in the two save files. Naturally the ID number was different. Adventure Started was off by a bit as well. And I believe there is a subtle difference between the "English" character set in the Japanese version as opposed to the USA version, so the same trainer name looks slightly different in each save (at least I think that's what I'm seeing). I dunno what the rest of it is. However, nothing looks more like the language flag than 0x00081 (or 0x40081, depending which save block is more current), which was set to 0x01 for the Japanese version and 0x02 for the USA version. When the European versions of Platinum hit, I think we should check this byte to see if it lines up with the country values for the individual Pokémon data. -
How big is the save file? It should be 512 kb. Also, there are some rare circumstances in which Pokésav will edit the "backup" portion of the save instead of the "current" portion, and if this is one of those cases, you might be able to fix it by saving again in-game, and then copying your save file over for editing. If that doesn't work, meet me on IRC sometime after 8 PM EST and I'll try to help you.

How did you do this if you don't know where the language flag is? In any case, this does make sense since foreign Pokémon get an EXP bonus (on top of the traded EXP bonus). It seems like there would be a flag to compare the Pokémon's country of origin to (assuming it didn't just compare it to the ROM's language or whatever). If Sabresite hasn't beaten me to it by the time I get home tonight, I'll find it. -
Or you can use one of my programs to do the same thing. I can promise you that it won't change anything else. See my sig for details, PM me with questions. EDIT: Ahh, that's only for DP though... for Pt I am not quite there yet. Grah.

Post your insane gimmick team here
codemonkey85 replied to wraith89's topic in Team Building Discussion
Just this quote and all it implies was enough for me to giggle madly. Enkidu, more please. Ironically I found your team more hilarious than the other ones... no offense guys! It's just that this one was plausible to use, and a real joke is one that plays on your expectations. See, the chicken crossing the road is funny because you're not expecting his motive to be so obvious. Get it? You don't make a team with Metapod / Silicoon, etc. and expect to win. But when you come up against a team with Cleffa / Clefairy / Clefable and they serve a real (and damaging) purpose, well... that, to me, is the greatest joke of all.
