Narwhal and Illithian's Sig Thread (Archive)
Illithian replied to Narwhal's topic in Creative Discussion
Because its twice the work to make two different sigs... I would think thats rather obvious? Lol. Its almost impossible to make a sig with FIFTEEN pictures. A sig isnt a wallpaper, its a 500x125 image thats designed to fit in a small area under each post you make. We can't magically make 15 pictures fit in the space where normally you have trouble fitting one. -
Firstly, the VGS tournaments demand a viable Garchomp counter. The omnipresence of Garchomp is impossible to ignore. Ludicolo: Brine is a better choice over Water Pulse in my opinion, although I keep saying that without testing it. Fairly standard defensive set. Be mindful that Ludicolo can be an extremely dangerous special attacker with Swift Swim. You may want to consider Damp Rock over Leftovers. Zapdos: Standard. Double battling will help this guy because of rain dance support from the start. Milotic: I don't really see what Milotic is doing for your team. I think there are better options for bulky water types. Gyarados: Switch Ice Fang for Stone Edge. Also your strategy is abit odd, as most people would switch out a sleeped pokemon so as to not give you an opportunity to stat up. Kingdra: The Kingdra set is quite predictable. If you don't put Damp Rock on Ludicolo, put it on kingdra; 8 turns of rain is invaluable. Garchomp: Dragon Pulse is a special based move, which does not fit your EV spread, nature and strategy. Dragon Claw would be a much better choice. Swords Dance is also an excellent option for stat up. Your team seems to be quite weak to physical based Dragon types, such as Garchomp and Salamence. With little to outspeed and counter them and complete lack of priority on this team, none of your pokemon resist Dragon type moves and none of your pokemon are bulky enough to absorb one.

Narwhal and Illithian's Sig Thread (Archive)

At least you got yourself a new sig. Quite an improvement over my boring one. -
Sorry, I'm in an exceptionally bad mood. I often forget Double Battle mechanics, so I suppose Surf isn't an option. What about Brine? In response to your PM, Ludicolo is a fantastic attacker, and you should give him Damp Rock for better rain abusage.

Today, Smogon's webzine, The Smog, has had its first release. "The Smog is a bi-monthly web magazine produced by some of the top writers, artists, and Pokemon experts in the Smogon community." (Chaos) I read through the entire thing, as I'm sure many people have. I thought it was an interesting read. Some of the more interesting articles, in my opinion, were: OU Metagame Lead Analysis New Faces of UU Inverse Metagames The first and third are quite lengthy, but they are both extremely interesting reads. The OU Lead analysis was extremely interesting and I reccomend all players read it, as it is a collection of information on leads that should have been compiled long before. The New Faces of UU is an excellent read that has some explanation of the aftermath of the BL and UU merge. I think it also has some good explanations as to why it was a balencing act. Finally, the Inverse Metagames was the longest and possibly the most interesting of the three; it explores how one metagame affects the others. It was quite interesting, kudos to Seven Deadly Sins for writing it. A side note, kudos to Syberia for the RNG abuse testing. I would never have the patience to do that. Discuss your favorite articles in The Smog and your thoughts on them.

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/9103/kuolevasig.png Lazily rendered from this. I needed a cute picture to fit the text, and I think this worked. Unfortunately I had no idea what to put in the background... I just put in some grunge brushes without overdoing it, but its rather boring... it shows that I had little inspiration. I'd be happy to edit parts of it at your request. Not my best sig. Edit: Something I made a while ago. Kinda random. Photobucket is hating me for some reason so imageshack it is; feel free to take and use and edit without crediting me. (it is my work though) -
Your Jirachi needs more useful moves, that one seems useless. Some mispredictions along with parahax (admittedly helped by Serene Grace), but overall not a bad fight.

forums One technical issue, one serious gripe

I contribute to chrome Personally I like the layout and all much better then firefox (and now I can't live without the autofilling of website names). -
Personally, I think the Smash Balls were a bad addition. Not only are they totally unbalenced, but I think it was a good way for nintendo to abuse and flag the Wii's outstanding graphics, and its one of the only ways to turn a normally bad character (mario) into a complete badass that actually has some power behind him. In any case, I voted for Brawl based on graphics alone. I don't miss Mewtwo.

Narwhal, check your PMs. Sheimi, sorry for the wait. Don't use more then one sig even in spoilers; it looks weird and is rather disrespectful. Pick one and alternate, but not more then one at a time. -

Sorry, I'm pretty tired today. I'll make the sig tomorrow okay? -
I would too; sand veil has tons of opportunities for lategame hax abuse (been there done that) and none of the intimidate pokemon are really worth keeping him in on.

As an answer to your question, yes, I could. However, there are several issues that make me rather reluctant to make a sig out if it. Firstly, the 3rd link doesnt work. Secondly, the quality on all of those is quite bad and has little synergy. How bout instead of those you use something like: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g263/uncanny_rhythm/starters_johto.jpg?t=1242087250 http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x102/hamie05/celebi.gif http://www.elalmanaque.com/Aikos/recursos/ho-oh.gif http://members.lycos.nl/gpikachu/hpbimg/lugia.gif And I'd rather you figure out a single subject, as multiple rather unrelated subjects is rather annoying to make a sig out of since it ends up looking rather messy. I would limit it to two different pictures, and it will look best with just one. -

Sorry for mysteriously vanishing, it appears that unless I bookmark something I never check it. Anyway, I bookmarked the shop. Sorry for not doing this in order, I'm going to try to fill out all the requests today anyway. Mewmart: -
Agreed. Shaymin would cover Lanturn, Azumarill, Poliwrath, Hitmonlee and Ludicolo effectively. Mespirit, Mismagius, and Slowbro would be nicely covered by a strong physical dark/ghost attack. Torterra might be worth considering for that position as he would fit into a sandstorm team, have subseed options, add grass into the mix, and provide a moderately powerful Crunch. Infact, with him, you could possibly drop Shaymin, although the coverage is invaluable. Honestly I don't see how Solrock is doing anything for your team at all, he seems to be dead weight. With that EV spread, he'll be dead before he can even make a mark into the opponent. Drop the last move for Explosion, keep WoW and Reflect instead of Stone Edge (since Solrock will die before he'll get a chance to use it anyway), set up the needed screen, and either explode or get out of there. Realistically, I can't see Solrock doing anything useful, except maybe helping someone set up... And heres that person. Lunatone. The pathetic, annoying, useless, bad fake moon rock. Get rid of him. There are SO many better options. Oh heres one, Omastar. Without Rain Dance he'll be a little awkward but +1 Sdef will work wonders for him, and combined with natural physical bulkiness make him an excellent choice. Maybe use a set like this: Omastar @Life Orb Modest | Shell Armor (because you won't be in rain) 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Surf / Ancientpower / HP Grass / Ice Beam I had an idea with Solrock here to help with the unexpectedness of Omastar on a sandstorm team. How bout a Rock Polish passer? Honestly none of your team can effectively use the screens, and with permanent unrestricted +2 speed, Omastar would be hugely dangerous especially with +1 Sdef from permanent sandstorm. A set like this: Solrock @Liechi Berry Naughty | Levitate 120 HP / 252 SpA / 136 Spe Rock Polish / Rock Slide / Baton Pass / Substitute Accuracy is everything on a slow pokemon like Solrock and if he misses any attack he could potentially take a SE to his face. This would increase team synergy which always looks good on paper =) Edit: Hybrid teams are suprising, but are a mess, and you'll usually end up in a situation where you have the wrong weather up at the wrong time and you're totally stuck. Better to stick to one weather.

I think Nintendo is extremely biased towards fire. Have you noticed that Typhlosion has the highest speed and Special Attack stats out of all three starters, and that those stats are the most useful for an ingame pokemon? Meganium has mediocre defensive stats and bad everything else, whilst Feraligatr has okay attack and def, while his other stats suffer. For ingame purposes, all of them will work. I think with the physical split, Feraligatr will be the most powerful starter. With physical Waterfall and Ice Punch, along with Dragon Dance and Swords Dance, he will be undeniably powerful. Typhlosion has a large movepool but probably won't be as strong as Feraligatr. Then again, Nintendo could work some magic with movesets and somehow turn Meganium into a monster, so we really don't know much at this point.

I assume you are talking about the Sinnoh Dex. Please be more clear next time. It is a simple process to recieve the National Dex and with it access to the full extent of the Fight Area. In the lower left corner of the main Pokesav window, you will see a box entitled "Pokedex". Underneath, there are check boxes for Sinnoh and Sinnoh + National. You need to check Sinnoh + National and you will have access to the National Dex. I believe this should work; whilst it won't complete your Sinnoh dex per se, it shouldn't matter once you have the National Dex.

I think the Anime is almost forced to redo G/S simply because of lack of things to cover. They've already stretched D/P almost to the limit as far as money and anime screen time, and unless they figure something new, they're going to lose some popularity. Thoughts?

Wraith, I'd love to make a UU team to go against you, except for one big issue: You essentially took out all the threats in UU just because they were... threats. Thats no way to play. If that happenned in OU, we would have to take out all these pokemon: Salamence Lucario Scizor Suicune Jirachi Tyranitar Azelf Blissey The list goes on. These pokemon are either capable of taking down teams, seriously annoying them, or are incredibly hard to take down. But not any combination of the three. If a single pokemon was annoying, could take down teams, and was hard to take down, then I would consider it worth uberifying. None of the pokemon on your ban list are all three, and as such they should all be in UU. And incase you didn't notice, SCV has posted multiple times that our Shoddy uses Smogon tier rules for now. Not your tier rules, which are totally broken. And I hope you realize we can't rate your team effectively without solidly knowing what you'll be facing. Finally, its worth mentioning that you took out literally all the water types that might potentially be a threat to cover up your three water weaknesses, all of which are quite slow. Please revert to Smogon's UU. If you can't adapt, then you aren't a good battler.

I started with the 3rd gen and I had little experience with the 2nd gen. One of my friends gave me his Gold version because he was bored with it. After playing the 3rd gen, I couldn't really appreciate it, so after finishing it, I felt like it wasn't worth the time spent. I'm very excited for the revamp.

Of course BL exists... http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/bl As stated by Silent Storm, BL is a banlist for UU, it would take months of suspect testing to even consider removing it and then it would just come back with new move tutors and opportunities to get G/S/C pokemon. P.S. For those who aren't following suspect testing, Manaphy is on the standard suspect ladder. I'm hoping he gets put into OU, hes a fantastic pokemon but he has enough counters and is quite similar to Jirachi, except Jirachi has incredible typing and great opportunities to use and abuse STAB.
-
As far as I know, Weavile does not learn Superpower. And seriously, take out Ditto.
-
Your list of banned pokemon is totally messed up. Clefable: You can OHKO him with any Explosion lead, and horrible defensive stats make a 2HKO even with one cosmic power. And honestly, Greencat's wasn't that great, he should have made a belly drum set. Ninetales: Hypnoplot only allows for two attacks. The only worthwhile ones are Flamethrower and Energy Ball. (on Specs sets, Dark Pulse is also possible) Priority will 2HKO her at worst and even with Nasty Plot, half of UU can wall her two main attacks. Haunter: OHKOed by anything. Move it back. Chansey: Oh come on, put it back. You're ruining the UU metagame, any physical attack will OHKO chansey's base 50 speed. Marowak: His low speed is his downfall. Jynx: I'm lolling at banning a base 35 defense pokemon. Luna set isnt that crippling anyway and has a ton of counters in UU. Feraligator: DD Salamence is amazing in OU and hes not Uber, so why are you banning the UU equivalent? Azumarill: Are you insane? Azumarill has a base 50 attack, even with Huge Power, thats a max attack stat of 436, and Aqua Jet is resisted by half the metagame. Houndoom: I'd like to see that thing get anywhere. You realize its an OHKO by Mach Punch from almost anyone? Miltank: Her usefulness as Utility is undeniable, but I still don't think shes too powerful. Zangoose: Scizor gets Swords Dance and Bullet Punch. With proper prediction, you can abuse that high attack stat quite nicely. Is he banned? Is he broken? Zangoose gets Swords Dance and Quick Attack. With proper prediction, you can abuse his high attack stat quite nicely. Should he be banned? Regis: Put them back in, they're not too strong and excellent defensive walls in UU. Not nearly powerful enough to be moved up, and there are absolutely NO viable sandstorm teams in UU. Floatzel: Hes only viable as a revenge killer anyway as his horrible defense is the death of him. Put him back. Gastrodon: Are you insane? He should be in NU (and he is), not BL. His base 39 speed is outsped by every grass type in UU and his only moderate sp. def could never take a 4x grass attack. Put him back... Mismagius: You said it yourself. Lucario is difficult to take down, and has different counters for different sets, but hes in OU. You can't take things out because they're strong... Regigigas: Put him back, same reasons as Regis. He's only useful late game when his counters are gone and he can stall till he gets his attack back. Please don't put pokemon that are ALREADY Ubers, BL, or OU pokemon as banned. We know, we dont care.

Putting taunt on Gliscor is a complete waste. Fire Fang is half useless. I'd use: Gliscor @Yache Berry 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 Spe Swords Dance / Roost / Earthquake / Stone Edge For Flygon, not using his dragon STAB is a waste, and I'm not worried about Skarmory. Earthquake / Outrage / Stone Edge / U-turn I already have Fire Blast and I'm in dire need of Stone Edge and an EQ STAB.
-
Interesting that you bring that up, I just faced a BP team who's Ninjask passed 3 SD and 6 speed boosts. I let that happen because I had 6 CMs safely behind my substitute =) Anyway, like I said before, Gliscor and Flygon are my prime choices. Flygon is looking like a pretty good choice, but Gliscor's high defenses are quite tempting. I would use a Scarfgon set with Earthquake, Outrage, Stone Edge, and U-Turn. Mostly as a Scarftran counter, but it has a lot of possibilities as a revenge killer or as a scouter. Again, switching out Salamence, whom's fire blast has helped me more then any single other move on the entire team, is a huge risk. He can easily net me 3 KOs and give me a great advantage over the other team. Switching Porygon2 is almost impossible at this point; hes sweeped a team with Speed Boost, destroyed Gyarados & Salamence, offered me a free switchin with choice heatran, and ran BP Jolteon's far, far away.
