  1. I don't disagree on any point in particular, but for in-game stuff, the Cyndaquil family still has the edge over more of the Gym Leaders than the other starters, due to Type advantages.
  2. What I meant by "Rudolph's Tool" is Rudolph's NDS Backup Tool Wifi (v0.31f). There is a guide to using it, and I made a thread with some tips as well.
  3. Having begun a new save file on both a Japanese version and a USA version of Pokémon Platinum, in which I chose the same gender, the same trainer name, and the same rival name, I noticed several differences in the two save files. Naturally the ID number was different. Adventure Started was off by a bit as well. And I believe there is a subtle difference between the "English" character set in the Japanese version as opposed to the USA version, so the same trainer name looks slightly different in each save (at least I think that's what I'm seeing). I dunno what the rest of it is. However, nothing looks more like the language flag than 0x00081 (or 0x40081, depending which save block is more current), which was set to 0x01 for the Japanese version and 0x02 for the USA version. When the European versions of Platinum hit, I think we should check this byte to see if it lines up with the country values for the individual Pokémon data.
  4. How big is the save file? It should be 512 kb. Also, there are some rare circumstances in which Pokésav will edit the "backup" portion of the save instead of the "current" portion, and if this is one of those cases, you might be able to fix it by saving again in-game, and then copying your save file over for editing. If that doesn't work, meet me on IRC sometime after 8 PM EST and I'll try to help you.
  5. How did you do this if you don't know where the language flag is? In any case, this does make sense since foreign Pokémon get an EXP bonus (on top of the traded EXP bonus). It seems like there would be a flag to compare the Pokémon's country of origin to (assuming it didn't just compare it to the ROM's language or whatever). If Sabresite hasn't beaten me to it by the time I get home tonight, I'll find it.
  6. Or you can use one of my programs to do the same thing. I can promise you that it won't change anything else. See my sig for details, PM me with questions. EDIT: Ahh, that's only for DP though... for Pt I am not quite there yet. Grah.
  7. Ah, so it'll operate like the game at first, with added features later. Got it!
  8. Just this quote and all it implies was enough for me to giggle madly. Enkidu, more please. Ironically I found your team more hilarious than the other ones... no offense guys! It's just that this one was plausible to use, and a real joke is one that plays on your expectations. See, the chicken crossing the road is funny because you're not expecting his motive to be so obvious. Get it? You don't make a team with Metapod / Silicoon, etc. and expect to win. But when you come up against a team with Cleffa / Clefairy / Clefable and they serve a real (and damaging) purpose, well... that, to me, is the greatest joke of all.
  9. D'aw, did I miss Bug yet? That was my opportunity to say Heracross. But for Ice types, it's gotta be Articuno. Also I don't like Ice types as a rule.
  10. Rules much? It's the last rule on that list. I think you should point out specific examples to one of the admins.
  11. Greencat, bear in mind that I'm counting on Ditto still being readily available on the routes by Goldenrod City like in the originals. Unless I decide to soft-reset for a female Cyndaquil. On a related note, when the games are released we should totally make a starter-swapping topic for just this situation.
  12. Also it sets some flags incorrectly. I noticed that for some Pokémon I marked as being seen or captured, the Japanese language flag was marked, even if I didn't mark it myself. So I had a null 'Dex entry in Japanese if I never actually caught the Pokémon before. I don't really trust either of those programs for directly editing save files anymore.
  13. I have a couple more reference links, and then I think the dead horse is dead. Warez. TV download sites hit by lawsuits.
  14. As far as a specific clause stating the illegality of downloading TV shows is concerned, all I've found so far is this: Digital rights management.
  15. I got my 3-in-1 from them, and not only did it take about three or four weeks, I didn't get a confirmation / tracking number from them at all. But it was a good deal. Destati, is this a DS Lite or a DS Phat? Just curious.
  16. As far as the coordinates go, Z is the elevation. I wish I could offer more help, but generally I like to see the file and figure it out from there. I don't really like the AR.
  17. I wouldn't expect to ever see videos of the episodes, since it's illegal and all. As for anime guides, anyone can write an episode guide and stick it on the Wiki.
  18. If there's a lot of demand, I could try to work on an editor program for the Pokédex (after I finish some more work on my own project). If anyone is interested in helping me figure out Platinum's Pokédex data structure, feel free to start a thread in the Save Research & Development forum.
  19. Syberia, that's brilliant. Gold88, this is not something that Nintendo would ever check for, I'm almost positive, and I don't believe it's "easily detectable" either, but I'll bet Sabresite will want to include an algorithm for it in Legality Checker / PokéMod.
  20. Mmkay, so how about the bottom half of my signature, hrm? (And so this post isn't entirely self-serving, congrats to Batman_begs etc.).
  21. I keep hearing this, and yet with Rudolph's tool I am able to backup / restore save files from retail carts in seconds. Did I just get lucky or what? I guess if you were backing up an entire cart slot-2 would be better in all cases though.
  22. I'll save you some trouble now; I'm getting Cyndaquil. Wanna trade eggs? You know where to find me. Also, Cyndaquil is the coolest starter basic form, and a contender for the coolest overall starter, ever. It's just too bad that this time ThunderPunch is not a viable move for Typhlosion.
  23. I agree, the sharp corners and sudden cut in color from gray to blue is a bit odd to look at. No offense to The Fallen, of course. I think I might be the only wallflower that liked the previous design better (although I do like the new colors). Also, I never did understand the significance of the Dragonite's association with site changes.
  24. ...I don't think it's safe or healthy to go there. Anyway, you named off some fairly useful apps there, and I still feel as though at least some of them will make it, probably with aesthetics to more closely resemble the PokéGear. Either way, the apparent importance of the touch screen could be a good thing. (I keep wondering what they'll do for Gen V, if they don't keep the dual / touch screen functionality.)
