Some information from GSC:
Regarding Pokémon availability:
The game will most likely use the Johto Pokédex which included all 251 known Pokémon at that time. However, not all of them were available to be caught in the games.

Out of these listed Kanto Pokemon, the fossil Pokemon are able to be found in the Underground in DPP, the three legendary birds are found in Platinum, but the starters are only obtainable by migration from FRLG and Mewtwo/Mew are not available in a 4th Gen game yet.

Also, Celebi was obtainable through an item-activated event in the Japanese version, but not American. Therefore, it could be possible that a Celebi event could be in the new games. Perhaps with a GS Ball event similar to the Member's Card or Oak's Letter.

What do you think about the Kanto starters and Mew/Mewtwo? Do you think there could be something similar to Birch giving you a Johto starter in Emerald? Or perhaps an item-activated event for Mewtwo in the Cerulean Cave?

Legendary Pokemon in GS:

These three Legendary Pokemon were catchable in GS after encountering them in the Brass (burned-down) Tower in Ecruteak. After this event, they could be found randomly roaming routes in Johto.
All three were available in Gen III's Colosseum, one was available in each playthrough of FR or LG. None have been available in Gen IV.

Ho-oh is obviously the Gold mascot, and Lugia the Silver. You could catch your version's mascot by getting the Rainbow or Silver feather (found at the Johto Radio Tower), respectively. You could catch the opposite mascot after obtaining the proper feather in Pewter City later in the game. Lugia is in the Whirl Islands, Ho-oh is in the Tin Tower in Ecruteak.
Both were available in Gen III. Ho-oh was available after completing Mt. Battle in Colosseum, Lugia was available in the storyline of XD. Neither have been available in Gen IV so far.


I think it's safe to say that the Regi-trio Pokemon will not be included in these versions since they were already in Platinum (as well as obviously being in RSE).

Do you think Kanto will be included (or do you think it will be cut since it already appeared in FR/LG)? Do you think more of Kanto's Pokemon will be available? Do you think Kanto will be the same size? Bigger/more in-depth than in GS?
What kind of legendary/event Pokemon do you think will be in the game? What kind of Pokemon do you think we'll get through item-activated events (such as Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus)? Do you think we'll see ways to obtain Mewtwo, Mew, Celebi or even Jirachi's first in-game obtainable appearance?

What other aspects of the game do you think will be included? Or what do you think will be cut from the original release of GS?

I'm personally really hoping to see something like the Battleground from Platinum where you'd be able to re-battle the characters from GS such as the Johto and Kanto Gym leaders (and maybe even Red, if he comes out of his cave...).

Perhaps they'll release an event to get Celebi eventually. What we need is an expanded Johto and Kanto... Kanto was terribly short in GSC and limited. Also, GSC's difficulty was VERY easy... highest level Pokemon being a level 51 Golbat (without counting legendaries) and the E4's strongest Pokemon being a level 50 Dragonite. Pathetic :-/

Maybe a difficulty setting like The Fallen's suggestion might do? I wish they had something like that... GSC felt n00bified.

Also, I'm hoping Mismagius and Honchkrow are available before beating the game and whatnot because although the former was great even if unevolved, the latter's unevolved form was quite unimpressive. :(

As long as either Scizor, Weavile, or Lucario is obtainable, I'm semi-happy, I'm quite depressed looking at the fact your unable to obtain either Mew, or Mewtwo, which is a downside.

I really can't wait for this game, because when it was originally released, i was only a little kid, that was too retarded to let turn based games enter my life.....until i played Golden Sun, then that changed my perspective.

Scizor and Weavile might be, since they are evolutions of Scyther and Sneasel. But I don't see why they would put in Lucario, other than for its popularity. It obviously wasn't in Johto.

The lists I posted were from the original versions on the GameBoy. There's no final word yet on whether Mewtwo will be obtainable or not, but... who knows, it could really go either way.

Actually, that's supposed to be the Shinkansen that goes from Tokyo to Kyoto, so... it won't be a monorail, but maybe they'll update it to look a little faster.

What I would like to see would be separate Pokemon Leagues. Every Region has had its own Pokemon League except Jhoto which shared a League with Kanto. Having two separate Leagues to beat would add more to the story IMO.

As far as what pokemon they will have I am sure you will be able to get all of them, but most likely it will be like FR/LG where you start with the basic Pokedex you had in the Original and then upgrade it later.

Honestly, I would prefer it that way. I loved how they did that with FR/LG because it really gave you the feel of the original, but more zazzy.

I don't really expect any changes, i hope not, unless it's a really significant change, that would make the game more enjoyable, like Pokemon Platinum had faster Surfing capabilities, and that made getting from the 8th Gym Leader, to the Elite 4, a lot more easier, and faster.

Honestly, I think Johto was kind of barren. And that's why Kanto was such an appeal. Even though it was essentially a ghost town, it's often cited as the best part of the game.

So I think they'll expand Johto and maybe add a bit more plot (but it won't be different). Then probably add "Kanto Island" or something like that to have a nice Battle Frontier and a bunch of wild Kanto animals. But I don't think it'll be as massive as Plat.

Johto felt barren because... It was an old game. Much like FF4 on the SNES, it would have been difficult, if not impossible to have as many environments as Gamefreak desired. Erctreuk should appear more like a shrine in Kyoto while Olivine should be built more like the great port city its fashioned after (Kobe).

The game is bound to have something new, I'm hoping more on the Kanto side of things. I'm sure there will be an island or something being that there's Vermilion City and all, it would be cool to have an updated Sevii Islands too. I'm thinking that the Radio function on the Pokegear will be replaced with a TV. And that the radio towers (in Johto and Kanto) will be TV tours.
And that the pokegear itself will more closely resemble a cell phone.

Since 10 years ago, cell phone usage has exploded in Japan (and everywhere), and the major broadcasting towers in Japan are now mainly Digital (and analog) TV towers. And most people can pick up these digital broadcasts with the digital tuner on their cell phones and watch TV anywhere they're within range. People can even watch TV on their DS if they buy the tuner package.
The only people with portable radios these days in Japan are old people.

So that's my prediction.

Naw, that is extremely unlikely and there would be no reason too. Besides we know nothing about the story that is involved with HG/SS. Speculation should be reserved after some more detail about the game has risen.

Let's see... I feel they will add more event and stories to stop you in-between gyms so the game lasts a little bit longer. It does go kind of rather quick from gym to gym and something more needs to go in-between.

I feel they should keep the Mach and normal bike switch like in Sinnoh. There might be story differences dealing with the heart and soul. There might be something to do with the wind, like what pokemon can be caught that maybe get carried by wind.

The radio tower might get replaced with a GTS. How they might mention there use to be a radio tower there. Just think it is the past yet not, you know? The pokemon will be on higher levels to make the game more challenging. The return of the Vs.Seeker and Poketech applications with better navigation.

Eh that is all I can think of right now.

I doubt Nintendo would do that though, just limiting it to 1000 or so people. Maybe they'll include the MCC from Crystal in place of the Goldenrod Pokemon Center and, like in Crystal, give you news and stuff along with the features in D&P and Pl.=3

Telos, in the DPPt save files, the game keeps track of which Pokémon you actually picked as your starter. So most likely only that one would follow you around (if they ever implement such a feature).

I'm hoping the Kanto Safari Zone will be intact, along with most of the other things that made the region a little too barren in exchange for being able to fit on the old Game Paks. Also, since a lot of people probably don't have FireRed or LeafGreen, it would be nice if they restored Cerulean Cave. Including at least some of the Sevii Islands would be cool, too.

I really wish that were the case... but I wonder if Berserk Gene is coming back... it appears that poor Mewtwo died or something because the cave went down from an avalanche or something (or it's the stupid game designers being lazy with GSC... Hm, well I have multiple favorites but my top two would have to be when you go to Silph Co. in RGBY and you're at the part where you get Lapras and you first get there, and there's Green and he's all like "I've already got all my badges, so this isn't gonna bother me. Have fun beating Team Rocket." And then he just leaves, Green is so badass.xD And the other one was the final battle against Silver at Mt. Moon in Kanto where he finally realizes that he's a douche, but Silver's still cool anyway. Anyway that last event is tied with meeting Red in Mt. Silver and he's all like, "..." and you're all like whoa and that 81 Pikachu.xDD

kanto where you went through the forest
hoenn where you had to do go through a forest again
sinnoh where you had to go through all these stuff just to finally fight roark

johto was like first run through a couple of routes that was small and boom your in town for your gym already

More than likely you'll be able to trade Sinnoh Pokemon to HG/SS. I don't see why they wouldn't allow you to. So this means that Shellos and Gastrodon would be available in HG/SS. That also makes it possible to obtain a Shellos in Johto via breeding.

In DPPt the form of a hatched Shellos changed depending on which side of Sinnoh it was hatched on. Maybe a couple new forms would be present in HG/SS. Either that or it'll be the regular 2 forms but one appears in Johto and the other in Kanto.

Now I'm wondering how they would deal with location evolutions. Unless they added new locations or items, that would evolve Eevee into it's 4th gen forms or Magneton to Magnezone etc., you would probably have to trade to DPPt and evolve it there.

You're probably right, since that's what they did with FR and LG as far as time-based evolutions went. Then again, maybe there will be new areas (akin to the Sevii Islands) that will take care of it.

Serebii states that the notched eared pichu has an event that can be triggered if you have it from the movie. So we better get it.
Also from there is saw on their post that the unseens from Fire Red and Leaf Green when entering a part of the map like a cave or a tower.
And finally it appears that there is a new female trainer like in the pictures above. As a supporting role.

From what I can tell, the Skateboard has been the original design for the bike in Gold/Silver (1999). I guess they dropped that idea and kept the Bike. I wonder though, can it still be accepted in the cycling road...

Uhhhhh.... take a close look at the scans. I can't be sure (the scans suck and are cut off at the folds, so I can't properly read everything), but I'm pretty sure that's the notch-eared Pichu in the Ilex Forest with the Pikachu-colored Pichu. And since Protokoll says that (from what he was able to read) that the P-C Pichu does activate an event in-game, then that's probably what's happening in that picture.

Rant about translations:
Also (on a separate rant), thanks once again, Serebii.net, for giving us a crappy translation! A notch in something is when something is MISSING from something (an INDENTATION). If those pointy angles were pieces MISSING from the Pichu's ear, then I would call it a notch-eared Pichu. HOWEVER, "ぎざぎざ" doesn't ONLY mean notched, it can also mean serrated, jagged, or pointy (with that zig zaggy kind of feeling). SO, I would call the Jagged-eared Pichu, or something more fitting like that.

In fact, from now on, I will NOT be referring to it as the notch-eared Pichu.

The only thing that sucks more than Serebii's English ability is his Japanese ability. And I'm pretty sick of him giving everyone crappy translations that everyone runs with "cause serebii says so."

About the girl's outfit
For those of you complaining about the new girl's outfit...
I think I MIGHT know why that style was chosen.
Johto is based on the Kansai area of Japan. And ... it's kinda seen by "city-folk" as being the... I dunno... backwater (?) area of the country. A lot of traditionally-minded people. So you could kind of connect that with a farmer/cowboy image, so maybe that's why she's got overalls on.
Another possible reason could just be because overalls have kinda come back into popularity in Japanese youth fashion.

I'm thinking that the Radio function on the Pokegear will be replaced with a TV. And that the radio towers (in Johto and Kanto) will be TV tours.
And that the pokegear itself will more closely resemble a cell phone.

Since 10 years ago, cell phone usage has exploded in Japan (and everywhere), and the major broadcasting towers in Japan are now mainly Digital (and analog) TV towers. And most people can pick up these digital broadcasts with the digital tuner on their cell phones and watch TV anywhere they're within range. People can even watch TV on their DS if they buy the tuner package.
The only people with portable radios these days in Japan are old people.

So that's my prediction.

I hope they don't change the radio towers with TV towers and make it so you can't listen to music on your Pokégear anymore. In fact I think this will come to the advantage of DSI compatibility, such as being able to play your own songs on the Pokégear. That would be pretty cool. And the radio tower is too big to change. It's what Team Rocket had to take control of for another important plot.

Actually they would have to change one thin', and that is that the Gyarados in the Lake of Rage were evolving rapidly due to the radio signal; now I'm not to sure, but Gyarados don't normally watch TV, Lax? Honestly, I don't see the practical reasons behind changing the tower, but I can see that as a nice feature.

Anyway, to the topic at hand. Well, the TV could be used to regularly communicate with the more important members, but that may mean voice acting in a game... Would, or even could, Nintendo dare put voice acting into a game, Hey?

That's not a Pokétch that is a Pokégear. A Pokégear is essentially a radio-enabled phone in the Johto region, Lax? For convenience, Gold kept it on his wrist (It also appeared to have the ability to send a live stream of the person on the other line in the anime.), Lax? Realistically, HG/SS probably won't have very many new additions in terms of something that most people just used to tell time. There are somethings that I may miss, like the Counter App so that I can track EV's, or the Snorlax Cooking Timer App (For reasons I don't feel the need to be discussed, Lax?), even the Kecleon Color Changer is fun to mess with. Other Apps would include the Day-Care App and the Tracking Map App, Lax? It's possible, if a TV were implemented, for those Apps to continue; the Day-Care App would actually be a live stream for example. Or the Tracking Map App would a reporter reporting the location of a rare Pocket Monster, or the Beasts, Lax?

Anyway, you named off some fairly useful apps there, and I still feel as though at least some of them will make it, probably with aesthetics to more closely resemble the PokéGear.

Either way, the apparent importance of the touch screen could be a good thing. (I keep wondering what they'll do for Gen V, if they don't keep the dual / touch screen functionality.)

"In regards to the shiny Pichu that you can download for preordering a 12th movie ticket, "Pikachu-Colored Pichu," it is now confirmed that it will activate an event when transferred from Platinum to the games. The magazine says, "It looks like having Pikachu-Colored Pichu in your party triggers an event with Notched-Ear Pichu." So the Pichu will definitely be a special one like the movie Regigigas last year, which unlocked the caverns of the other Regis in Platinum. This information also confirms that the Notched-Ear Pichu will be in the games and is not just a movie-exclusive character. Considering that the event takes place in Ilex Forest, and this is just speculation, one of the Pichu might have something to do with the GS Ball.

The Arceus section in the scans is just showing its different PokeDex entries in Diamond and Pearl. It also says that in Platinum, you can hear the legend of Arceus from a hiker in the Oreburgh Mine and then later in the Canalave Library when you have the Arceus from the movie event in your party. The legend just summarizes what we already know about the legendaries of Sinnoh in that Arceus is the creator and Dialga, Palkia, and the lake trio were born from it."

Hmm.. If Nintendo do decide to lose the touch screen functions, they'd have a lot of unhappy fans on their hands. The ability to save will also be better, i'm sure it'll help those who forget to save.

Also, on the subject of changing the Radio Towers to TV Towers, I highly doubt they'd implement them, as they play a very important role throughout the game. They may introduce TV-like functionality, but probably won't remove anything to do with the radio.

I actually liked the phone calls, they immersed you into the game more.

Of course, it was annoying when they repeated themselves.

If they put some more time into the phone call system though, it could be great. They could update you on locations of legendaries, rumors that could lead you to secrets, and give you interesting stories. Perhaps even comment on things they've heard about you.

The gameboy and gameboy color Pokemon games had an internal battery to store your save games. Once that died, any saves you made would disappear.

BTW, there's a guide to replace that battery.
