Offline Pokemon Team Generator (Strategies and Moveset)
Codr replied to The_Lion's topic in Creative Discussion
I haven't used the program, but from the screenshots, it's nice to see that someone else actually puts emphasis on appearance. It looks great. (There's still some slight misalignments that annoy me, but I'm pretty picky about that kind of thing in my own projects.) -
VS Recorder backup creator and VS Recorder PKM extraction Program
Codr replied to NulMyre's topic in Saves - Tools
That's a HUGE understatement. I personally think you'd be crazy to even attempt it, given the limited use. -
I'm not really trying to be rude here, but there's no nicer way to go about doing this. In the very first post of this thread: On a completely unrelated note, I like how your UI displays group boxes. You probably don't know what I'm referring to, but it's not important.

Are you reading this on these forums somewhere? If so, can you link the thread so I can post there? Whoever said you need to provide a leading 0 obviously didn't do well in math in school. A leading 0 does absolutely nothing to a number mathematically, which is all the program cares about.

When you save something in Microsoft Word, you're providing all of the information it needs. Trying to save a save file without having loaded one first isn't doing that. There's MUCH more to a save file than just the Pokemon data, and PokeGen doesn't magically fill that in for you. It's case sensitive. No, but this isn't related to the program.

Export the codes as XML via the File menu, assuming I'm understanding what you want. You're probably not using the right trainer name characters. If you're using the US version of the game, don't use the character map unless it's a character you can't type in normally.

Is it possible to tell if a Pokemon is 100% legit?
Codr replied to DarkGuy/LoJo's topic in Pokémon Legality
I'd like to reiterate that the game doesn't care by what means it was obtained. If the data is correct, that's all that matters. -
I can't recreate this either. Taking these steps produced the proper result: 1. Open the program with my save file. 2. Display data for my first party Pokemon. 3. Change its ability. 4. Set it back to that slot. 5. Display another Pokemon's data. 6. Display the first Pokemon's data again. The abilities were always what they were supposed to be. This is the kind of problem reporting I need to be able to test anything reliably. The more detail, the better. Edit: Well, you posted again before I did. I'll leave this here for a better example of what bug reports should be like.

I'm still having no problem like this. The program has no knowledge of what attacks Pokemon can normally learn either, so that has nothing to do with it. My best guess is that you have something modifying Windows' controls to where they're not behaving normally, assuming I'm understanding your problem. It works normally regardless of the extra byte values. If you're asking what Pokemon should have for these values, I still have yet to see any Pokemon with any of these bytes set to anything but zero. Well, except for byte 135, which is used for Pokeathlon stats for party Pokemon in some way, but how isn't fully known.

This is incorrect. Only the original trainer name, original trainer gender, ID, and SID need to match your save file's data. Btw Corupption, nice folder name. One more thing, Pokesav is outdated, pointlessly difficult to use, and lacking in features for Pokemon editing. Use the program in my signature if you can.
-
This if you're only modifying Pokemon.

As far as I know, there's no way for Pokemon generated by this program to corrupt the save file. I just tested box 15 slot 1 and had no problems. It's almost certainly something else you've done with other codes that's caused the problem. Considering I have no idea what you've done, and that you're not exactly being thorough about it, I can't give you anything further to go on. You haven't even posted the .pkm file for me to verify that that isn't somehow the problem.

I'll need more detail to determine if this is actually a problem wtih the codes. (Which I highly doubt.) Is this Pokemon being put into the party or PC? Which slot? Can you provide a .pkm file for it? Which code type are you using? Is this on real hardware or an emulator? Are you using other codes at the same time? Have you tried not using other codes?

That's correct. "Apparently met" refers to the Pokemon not belonging to the current save file's trainer. The only relationship to "hacking" that it has is that putting in the wrong data as you have will result in this appearing as well, since the game can't match it to the current trainer.

I probably just misread regarding the character map, as usual. The SID must match, as I posted, and as the tooltips say. You can't just ignore it.

PokeGen has a character map (a graphical representation of all of the letters, numbers, and symbols that can be used in nicknames) for this reason. The link is in my signature.

Thanks for the comments. I don't respond to all of these because I honestly feel awkward doing so, but to others who've posted such things, it's appreciated and helps keep me feeling like it's worth updating the program. It's most likely that you've used the wrong nickname characters. The encounter type has nothing to do with Pokemon being seen as belonging to the trainer. It's based on 4 things: trainer gender, the two trainer IDs, and the trainer name. Nothing else affects it. I can't say I'm 100% sure about this, but I'm pretty sure the game checks only the characters in the trainer name up to the first 0xFFFF value. Anything beyond that may be ignored. (PokeGen puts in 0xFFFF for you if you don't fill in all 8 characters.) If you read a few posts back, someone else had a similar problem with the trainer name. They were using the Japanese alphanumeric characters instead of the US ones. There's no need to use the character map if you're simply typing in an English name with a-z/A-Z/0-9. (Some other characters are supported directly as well, but I don't remember exactly which ones.)

Is it possible to tell if a Pokemon is 100% legit?
Codr replied to DarkGuy/LoJo's topic in Pokémon Legality
There are quite a few different methods used for genuine PIDs. I'm not familiar with all of them, or which ones match which Pokemon. Someone else might have more knowledge about it though. (I just don't have much experience with event Pokemon in general.) -
Assuming there are no other unforeseen problems, you should be able to generate Pokemon that're indistinguishable from what's generated by the game normally. People involved with Pokemon creation love to act as if there's a distinction between the words "legitimate" and "legal", but they're really just paranoid. If you create a perfect Pokemon, the game doesn't know that it was made by codes, and neither will anyone else.

Codr replied to DarkGuy/LoJo's topic in Pokémon Legality
Hence making the whole idea of "legitimate" meaning something different than "legal" completely pointless. If the Pokemon's data is flawless, what difference does it make how it was created? It's all in your head. -
If the bytes following the names of the Pokemon were 0xFFFF and repeating 0x0000, they're fine, otherwise the nickname flag WILL be set on them, which probably isn't intended. Sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused, but I'm not perfect.

There's no master code. These codes are no different than what're widely spread across the internet either. No$GBA won't even get past the new game introduction stuff for me, so I can't try the codes myself. Desmume works just fine, however. (Although sometimes only with code type 2.)

2.306 - Added support for loading and saving of DUC format save files. You can only save in DUC format if you currently have a DUC format save file loaded. If you save a file to the .duc extension without having a DUC save file loaded, it'll be saved in the same format as a .sav file, just with a different extension. - Redesigned the way shiny leaves are selected. - Fixed an issue where loading a Pokemon with a shiny leaf value set would cause problems. - Fixed writing of shiny leaf data. It's now done as the game does. - Holding down alt when clicking a Pokemon icon will display its information in the controls now. - Holding down shift + alt when clicking a Pokemon icon will set the Pokemon in that slot from the controls.

Well that's why then. If you're using a US game, just type in the name of your character. Don't use the character map unless it's something you can't type with the keyboard normally. The first set of alphanumeric characters are used in the Japanese games, which is what you used, which is wrong.

Then you have the ID, SID, trainer gender, or trainer name wrong in SOME way. Is the trainer name in plain text? As in each character being one of the 26 letters in the alphabet.
