  1. Curse Of Darkness Team inspired by Legacy Raider's Curse Tyranitar team ------------------------------------------------------------------ Introduction: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Around the D/P Era as well as early Platinum I ran a bulky offensive team on shoddy as well as WiFi, the basic strategy behind it was to use Dual Screen Bronzong lead to set up rocks and D/S so it could make things easier for DD Tyranitar to sweep. http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46608 This was by far one of the best teams I ever used, it got me the most wins and hardly more than 3 members died, after a while I believed the team reached it's limits so I retired it till a few days ago. On smogon I saw a RMT post by Legacy Raider promoting (I believe) Curse Tyranitar using Pokemon like Gliscor and co to make things easier for him to sweep (Gliscor dealing with fighting moves as well as psychics and other stuff dealing with things that hinder Tyranitar's sweep don't remmber the details as for some reason it got deleted). With the team posted I noticed the team resembled my team with new additions to fit the Platinum metagame, basically what the team did was make me want to rework my old team using some things LR used. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Team Line Up ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ In-depth look ------------------------------------------------------------------ Metagross @ Leftovers Ability: Clear Body Nature: Adamant (+Attack, - Special Attack) EVs: 252 HP | 236 Attack | 12 Defense | 8 Speed Bullet Punch Earthquake / Meteor Mash Stealth Rock Explosion ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Taken straight from the Smogon dex with Leftovers over Occa Berry. Metagross as a lead is very interesting, the purpose of this set is to set up rocks while dealing with some of the common leads in the metagame like suicide leads. With his typing and ability Metagross provides my team with useful resists, when Stealth Rock is up normally save Metagross for later so I can check some dragon Pokemon (predicted Outrage etc), normally this Pokemon is Salamence as Salamence can be a pain to kill when played right so it is important I keep Metagross alive as long as I can. The EVs give Metagross a bit of bulk as as I am not really interested in out speeding other Pokemon, the move sets goes either way for me, I tend to use Meteor Mash over Earthquake most of the time so I can attempt an early sweep but that would mean steel types resist all of my moves, Explosion is to take out a key member as a perfectly timed Explosion can be game breaking for this team. Gliscor @ Leftovers Ability: Hyper Cutter Nature: Jolly (+Speed, - Special Attack) EVs: 252 HP | 40 Special Defense | 216 Speed Swords Dance Earthquake Roost Stone Edge ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Now this is a member I am very fond of. Gliscor acts as a fighting check (I think) as well as a great supporting Pokemon for my team, with his speed, decent attack and defense stats he is normally one of the last members standing late game. The move set is so that i can stop stat up users that are outsped by Gliscor as well as ruin some other sets for Pokemon, this has helped me stop Pokemon from stalling with Recovery as well as screw up switch ins, Roost gives Gliscor well needed recovery and the rest deals with fighting Pokemon and Heracross as well as Pokemon weak to ground. The EVs are so that Gliscor can have as much health and speed as possible while having a ok attack and defense stats, I haven't used this set in a while so I don't know remember it fares against Lucario. Zapdos @ Leftovers Ability: Pressure Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack) EVs: 252 HP | 80 Special Attack | 176 Speed Thunderbolt Heat Wave Roost Hidden Power [Grass] ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Zapdos is one of the defensive cores of the team that is able to check stuff like Swampert that give this team a lot of trouble, I felt that Salamence was dead weight on the team, which died too soon because of the Life Orb + Stealth Rock + Sandstream combination. Zapdos also aids in beating Scizor which is a thorn to Tyranitar, my old team used to have major problems with SD Scizor especially but the addition of Zapdos with recovery as remedied that. Uxie @ Light Clay Ability: Pressure Nature: Impish (+Defense, - Special Attack) EVs: 252 HP | 180 Defense | 76 Speed Reflect Light Screen Memento U-Turn ....................... Comments & Suggestions: This is the first time I have ever used Uxie and I must say he/she is a fine addition to this team. I consider Uxie to be the Mesprit and Bronzong mixed together, my old team had Bronzong set up screens while crippling another pokemon while I had a psychic immune to ground scout what my opponenet does, Uxie accomplished these taaks by setting up screens and crippling with memento, if I want to save him/her for later I U-Turn out of there. Scizor @ Choice Band Ability: Technician Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special Attack) EVs: 248 HP | 252 Attack | 8 Speed Bullet Punch Superpower Pursuit U-Turn ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Scizor with Choice Band is an excellent addition to any offensive team that needs a raw revenge killing Pokemon, with Choice Band + Stealth Rock you are looking at killing alot of Pokemon denting enough to be killed by other offensive pokemon. The key to this set is making sure you are not predicable, this means most of the time you are going to need to use the odd pursuit, but I mainly stick to U-Turning ass scouting is a massive help, with U-Turn I can plan what my next move is gonna be, though this does not work against his main counter that being Heatran, a well predicated Superpower decimates his ass, and if it is not Scizor I am still doing hells worth of damage providing a ghost does not come in and kill me. This is also the perfect trapper imo as well as the best set for Scizor, Choice Band + Bullet Punch will indefinitely deal with Gengar, and if he decides to switch out, Pursuit deals with him, Gengar as well as everything that is weak to Pursuit is in a no win situation when in the same ring as Scizor. (Another lazy repost) Tyranitar @ Leftovers Ability: Sand Stream Nature: Careful (+Special Defense, - Special Attack) EVs: 74 HP | 252 Attack | 8 Defense | 176 Special Defense Curse Crunch Substitute Stone Edge ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Credits go to Randomspot for showing the set. Anyways Curse Tyranitar is a beast, that is all I have to say, after two curses and stuff Tyranitar becomes a very difficult Pokemon to take down providing everything that kills him is weakened/taken otu beforehand. This set is a little different to the the normal set found on Smogon, as I don't like Rest I decided to use this set. Basically you sub as early as possible and curse up behind the sub, with Tyranitar's decent special defense and attack while being boosted by Curse he should be able to clean up late game. The move set is what I am having problems with, Payback is a powerful move but I feel Crunch will be better suited for that move slot, with the other moves I have the option of using Stone Edge, Earthquake or Crunch, it is hard choosing a good move for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The End ------------------------------------------------------------------ Ok so I know that the team is not perfect, I am considering dropping Salamence for a Latias as well as trying out Celebi, the Curse set has been working well for me. (I have been lazy in this rmt, sorry). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Change Log ------------------------------------------------------------------ Gave Tyranitar Crunch and Stone Edge Changed Gliscor's spread Changed Gliscor's move set Changed Gliscor's nature and ability Mesprit and Salamence gone New members being Uxie and Zapdos ------------------------------------------------------------------ Change Log ------------------------------------------------------------------ Coming soon
  2. I am in the process of posting a new team, I am gonna have to try this set out first with adjustments of course.
  3. Agreed, Fr/Lg did nothing to me, hence why I hate the 3rd gen, Emerald was ok cause of the frontier, but I never liked the Sevii Island, they were tedious and annoying equivalent to orange islands.
  4. Uh no, no more Kanto revisits/remakes, we have had Red, Blue, Green(Japan), Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal FR/LG and soon HG/SS, if anything I see a remake to Ru/Sa but not the originals, I am sick of Kanto.
  5. Eh apart from the odd misspelled word (which I have just corrected) the only spelling errors my checker picks up are words like Smogon, Pokecommunity and stuff like imo (in my opinion).
  6. I added a resource section to the first post which includes a threat list, planning on adding more soon.
  7. Ok now I have a triple fire weakness, this is a problem correct or should I just rely on Latias and Salamence to soak those hits? Any tips? Suicune over something perhaps? Maybe replacing Swampert was not the best idea.
  8. Eh I can use what I like here and like I said I have never found Trick useful so I am not going to use it, simple, just like how never use Taunt on my lead Azelf, cause I don't find it useful (hardly ever use it). The lead has been working fine for me so I won't change the moves until I need to.
  9. Over the the years I have witnessed some pretty poorly typed RMT threads, though the teams themselves were not bad, the way the RMT was presented defiantly played a part in their threads dying. I quite frankly am sick of seeing poorly written RMTs on Serebii, Pokecommunity and Smogon even, its not the layout that I am sick of (well kinda) but I am also sick of the fact that they do not give us much information on why they chose their party members and as well as having a central strategy, normally I see "standard set he is my revenge killer nothing much to say" what generally should be said is "I chose X Pokemon as my revenge killer, he provides my team with scouting capabilities while checking a lot of threats to my team" at minimum. So I decided to type up a small quick guide on how to produce a tidy informative and nicely presented RMT. Step 1 - Be consistent with your layout. What this means is that you use images with the same art style, type with the same font while putting important info in bold letters (IE damage calculation if you want to add them) and also keeping to the same format throughout your RMT. Step 2 - Try to be as informative as you humanly can. This is hard even for me as some sets are hard to talk about, to make things easier look up an analysis on Smogon, take bits from their and add them to your thread (edit some parts out so it does not look like you copied it) Step 3 -Type up your move sets in a way that makes it easy to read. This is the biggest problem I have, people tend to be lazy with this which results in their RMT dying before it had a chance. Try to follow a format like this: Pokemon @ Item Nature: Ability: EVs: Role: - Move 1 - Move 2 - Move 3 - Move 4 Comment: Step 4 - Have an introduction. Tell us what your team is trying to accomplish - are you trying to use paralysis hax to win or are you playing stall? Do you want to clear all common Salamence switch ins so that he has an easier time switching? Is it sandstorm or hail? Something like this would help us know what kind of team you are running etc and it will tell us you know what you are doing when you made this team. Final Step - Try and get a Threat List Threat lists tell us how you handle certain threats, add colors to show us what your problem Pokemon are and stuff like that. This is short (imo) but this is what I follow, it also helps to lurk before posting an RMT, people on smogon have asked if they can use my style as that is very important, sorry but people don't want to rate messy RMTs as they are hard and annoying to read. Lurking also helps you become a better player, lurking on places like Smogon show what the next big thing is while it shows you ways of beating or "checking" it etc, it also helps you build successful teams (the RMT Archive on Smogon). Resource Section Threat list. OU Sprites Bulbapedia for sprites. Legendary Pokemon for official artwork. Arkies for fan made art work (they seem to be popular atm). I will add more soon.
  10. I guess what it boils down to is resistances, Mamoswine has more weaknesses as well as having the same weakness as Jirachi while Jirachi has less weakness (2 I think) and is faster with Choice Scarf, I did some testing and Jirachi worked with and without Choice Scarf.
  11. I wasn't talking about your rates.Anyways I have have been thinking about what can replace Swampert as I hate him now, I have narrowed it dwon to Mamoswine and Jirachi, Mamo as a lead has worked wonders for me but Jirachi sounds more appealing thanks to Choice Scarf, thoughts? I will give Gliscor a try.
  12. ?? I don't really care about countering trick leads as I never really run into them? @Bolded part - Eh he is to me, maybe that was not best word to use but when I first used him he never really got me any KOs so I ditched him till now.@ the rest - Not changing the spread, speed is crucial for this set as it outspeeds base 100 Pokemon while tieing with Zapdos and other Salamence *(that seem to run max speed all of a sudden) dropping speed while replacing Flamthrower with Fire Blast is not really the best idea imo. ? @bolded part - Eh I already know that. The key to that Latias set is the special attack, at the very least I can hit Scizor and Tyranitar enough for a 2HKP and before you say anything again I am not going to be keeping her in on them (wait they have pursuit so I might as well stay in and do as much damage as possible right? then if I manage to 2HKO them I can heal right? the HP EVs help with survivability and the 100 speed evs just gives her an extra bit of speed). Every pokemon dies, your point? @Swampert part - I never keep him in on Zapdos anyway >.>.Next I never said Salamence was a counter to Zapdos, all I said was Salamence can kill Zapdos with Draco Meteor after Stealth Rock. Thirdly most Flygon are Choice Scarfed, I also said Scizor does well against all his other moves as I am well aware that Flygon will most likely have Fire Blast, but in most cases it will be used of revenge killing, I send Scizor in on Flygon as alot of the Flygon users use U-Turn for scouting. Note - I am well aware I have trouble against Salamence, Zapdos and Flygon, I have used this team you know? I also know that this is Platinum, I can't counter everything only using 6 Pokemon? so at the very best I use checks, which are not full blown counters but they help in defeating those Pokemon.
  13. Brawl because it has been hacked to death (Brawl+, character textures, music hacks etc).
  14. Any rapid spinner would be a waste on a team like this.
  15. Its cool, I was quite aggressive so sorry. @En - Yeah I myself was unsure about Kingdra, maybe though I might add Gyarados in the end as he bypasses ground and spikes, or I might give Azelf or Suicune a shot and change my lead.
  16. =/ This is no help at all, all you really did was list weaknesses. I am not stupid, yes I know dragons are weak to ice, I know none of my pokemon "fighting" at se, frankly I don't care. Then you tell hail teams have a field day with this team, ok so you are now assuming I can't kill anything on a hail team, hell I can say you think nothing here can even do any damage to hail teams, should I go on? Note that this is Platinum not DP, I don't run into hails so I don't care, even if I did so what if I "lose"? I can't counter everything like in D/P that includes hail teams.
  17. Lol leftovers sprite was there but forgot to put leftovers in as well as forgot to put Stealth Rock on.
  18. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Introduction: ------------------------------------------------------------------ I personally like offensive play as well as offensive teams, when played correctly offensive teams can end matches very quickly for me. My goal here (was) is to have immunity and resistances to: Spikes Toxic Spikes Stealth Rock In a way I have accomplished most of those, which me only having one Stealth Rock weak Pokemon and one Pokemon hit by Spikes / Toxic Spikes. My second goal is to try and have an alternate win condition, Azelf is my main late game attacker as well as my back up card in case Salamence or Scizor somehow fall early game, with this offensive team I can't really play around as one wrong move can potentially end the game for me, then again I have gotten better at playing with offensive teams. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Offensive Team Line Up ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ My opinions plus summary ------------------------------------------------------------------ From the current line up things are looking decent for me, this team is not afraid of and entry hazards (which could screw me over) also the type coverage is excellent when you look deeper into things I tried to have as many resistances as possible while using some of my favorite Pokemon, though Swampert is not really one of my favs he does help this team out from time to time I am liking the line up, I have a lead that set up Stealth Rock reliably while dealing with most leads and common threats. ------------------------------------------------------------------ In-depth look ------------------------------------------------------------------ Jirachi @ Choice Scarf Ability: Serene Grace Nature: Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) EVs: 80 HP| 252 Attack | 176 Speed U-Turn Trick Stealth Rock Iron Head ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Swampert originally was here in place of Jirachi, but seeing I hate Swampert now also the fact that he is affected by Toxic Spikes means he need to be replaced. Anyways, Jirachi himself is a marvelous lead, being a lead that achieves setting up rocks effectively is a plus while having Choice Scarf means I have a great weapon against the likes of Scizor (if I decide to ditch Trick) Salamence (Ice Punch) while adding a bit of hax into the game. I made some small changes to the moveset, removing U-Turn completely and adding Trick into the mix, even though I hardly ever feel the need to use it, having it there can help at times. The EVs are borrowed from a set on Smogon, 200 Speed EVs makes it so Jirachi hits 429, which outruns lead Aerodactyl and Azelf (non scarfed), then I split the EVs in half giving Jirachi a bit of health and attack respectively. Jirachi being a steel combos well with Latias and Salamence, but also gives my team triple ground weakness, which I am not too bothered about. Though I am having problems with what to add, if I add Fire Punch then Scizor is defiantly going down, if I add U-Turn then I have some scouting, but that is assuming I have Trick here, I might go with Fire Punch as I really don't like Scizor. ------ Salamence @ Life Orb Ability: Intimidate Nature: Naive (+ Speed, - Special Defense) EVs: 16 Attack | 240 Special Attack | 252 Speed Outrage Draco Meteor Brick Break Flamethrower ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Salamence is by far the most controversial Pokemon I have used, but now he seems to be working extremely well for me. Salamence has near un-resistance coverage to everything, this helps with his great speed and nice distributed stats, Salamence on a whole is the best member here as he does not need one turn to cause hell for anyone. Salamence's moveset can go either way here, if I need the extra power then I keep Fire Blast and Earthquake, but here I am minizing risk, so Brick Break and Flamethrower is the best choice for me, Flamethrower hits the same thing but has better accuracy and brick Break hits Blissey incase I am saving Outrage for late game, it also scouts Skarmory switch ins which are taken care of by fire just incase he decides to stay in predicting an Outrage, Skarmory is not getting past Salamence. ------ Scizor @ Choice Band Ability: Technician Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special Attack) EVs: 248 HP | 252 Attack | 8 Speed Bullet Punch Superpower Pursuit U-Turn ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Scizor with Choice Band is an excellent addition to any offensive team that needs a raw revenge killing Pokemon, with Choice Band + Stealth Rock you are looking at killing alot of Pokemon denting enough to be killed by other offensive pokemon. The key to this set is making sure you are not predicable, this means most of the time you are going to need to use the odd pursuit, but I mainly stick to U-Turning *** scouting is a massive help, with U-Turn I can plan what my next move is gonna be, though this does not work against his main counter that being Heatran, a well predicated Superpower decimates his ***, and if it is not Scizor I am still doing hells worth of damage providing a ghost does not come in and kill me. ------ Latias @ Life Orb Ability: Levitate Nature: Modest (+Special Attack, - Attack) EVs: 80 HP | 252 Special Attack | 176 Speed Surf Recover Psycho Shift Draco Meteor ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Credits to Panamaxis for the set. Latias has been placed here as not only does she deal quite a bit of damage but she also deals quite a bit of damage to opposing teams but she also deals with something that can screw over any offensive team, that being Status moves, PS absorbs all Satatus aimed at party members and sends it right back to the opposing Pokemon, which can win you matches. Now this is a vital member, I need some way of stopping Infernape, where according to most people, every team is weak to, Latias with her bulk and type deals with Infernape effectively, with her reliable recovery and decent special attack, she is normally one of the last Pokemon to die in battle. ------ Infernape @ Life Orb Ability: Blaze Nature: Naive (+ Speed, - Special Defense) EVs: 252 Attack | 64 Special Attack | 192 Speed U-Turn Close Combat Mach Punch Overheat ....................... Comments & Suggestions: Though this set is not as deadly as the Lucario set I had, Infernape (physically based) can still provide my team with as much offensive power checking many threats that are extremely annoying (them being Agility Empoleon) The set itself is not generally fast for my liking, but with U-Turn and Mach Punch in his set, speed is not an issue for me, the main thing about this set is that Infernape is able to take down Lucario and Empoleon with ease if they happen to switch in and set up on one of my Pokemon (Scizor is usually set up on) Mach Punch strikes first always dealing great amounts of damage to those two while U-Turn is used as my secondary scouting move if I correctly predict a flying switch in or Latias, who loses half her health from U-Turn. Infernape being similar to Lucario in terms of offensive power can function as both an early and late game attacker, in fact, even though I enjoy using Lucario I prefer Infernape over Lucario as Lucario opened me up to a fire weakness. ------ Suicune @ Leftovers Ability: Pressure Nature: Timid (+Speed, - Attack) EVs: 40 HP | 252 Special Attack | 216 Speed Calm Mind Ice Beam Hidden Power [Electric] Surf ....................... Comments & Suggestions: To solve my issue with Gyarados which pretty much sweeps my team I decided to sacrifice spikes immunity for dealing with him. Suicune acts are my only set up Pokemon, being able to deal with threats in the game while dealing with my biggest problem which is Gyarados, after Stealth Rock Suicune is able to one hit KO with or without a Calm Mind boost, this is added by Life Orb. Though Suicune is a tank, I believe this set with Life Orb is powerful, I was thinking of using Leftovers but I decided that the extra power with Life Orb was more important than recovery. The EVs may look weird but I swear it works, with 172 HP Suciune's life is prolonged while the rest have been distributed evenly to give Suicune a bit of power and speed, though I am considering going with the standard eV spread for him, right now this spread is working fine for me. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Change Log: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Changed Swampert with Jirachi. Changed Lucario with Infernape. Changed Latias spread. Gave Salamence Earthquake and Flamethrower over Brick Break and Fire Blast. Gave Azelf Flamethrower over Thunderbolt. Gave Jirachi Trick over Fire Punch. Gave Jirachi Ice Punch over U-Turn. Gave Jirachi Fire Punch over Ice Punch. Gave Salamence Brick Break over Earthquake. Changed Azelf for Suicune. Gave Suicune Leftovers. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Threat List ------------------------------------------------------------------ Green means they are not a problem for me. Orange means they can cause a bit of trouble. Red means they are very difficult to take down.
  19. Well I think under the species clause Latios belongs in the OU metagame witout soul dew, unlike her sister, Latios is easier to kill (the trap scizor set kills him in two hits, one if he decided to run) but I don't care either way, Latios and Latias are just dragons that are beaten by common OU threats currently running around. Latias though is a great offensive Pokemon thanks to her bulk.
  20. Basically people deemed him too strong for OU, the whole thing imo was ridiculous, I saw arguments like people are building teams poorly because of Latios which help Infernape sweep. If such a Pokemon was obviously uber then the vote would not have been as close as it is, some players voted simply because they didn't like it while others voted because the specs set, being risky could sweep shitty teams, with the assumption that a Latios player can play perfectly, surfing and Draco Meteoring on the right Pokemon, which wasn't the case when I played on the suspect ladder, then people had the nerve to tell us that we should have played more when: The suspect ladder was dead Jumpman was filtering votes based on who he liked or what made sense according to him etc, there was aguy that wrote a brilliant paragraph but got denied on the basis that Jump didn't like him (it was 5KRunner). I am probably going to far here but the vote just pissed me off, and no I wasn't going to vote on the basis Latios was my favorite dragon, I was going to vote based on the fact that he is not uber if he can't beat whatever shitty team I make considering I am one of the worst battlers around also if he can't grab me any kills (like a good suspect user I used the suspect half way through to give me a good idea on what he is capabale of).
  21. Blissey is not even built to take physical threats, she is a special wall.
