New to Citra, need installation help
isnorden replied to isnorden's topic in Systems, Flashcards, and Emulation
What files would I need dumped? As long as I could get those from other players, would I be OK? -
Trying to install the Citra 3DS emulator on my PC (a desktop with Win10 64-bit, 8 GB of RAM, and a dedicated graphics card I had installed last year) for the first time. I have zero experience compiling code from scratch, but hope to get Citra running so that I can play Gen6/Gen7 Pokémon games on this computer. (Yes, I've seen several YouTubers do just that; I've downloaded both the emulator .zip and some decrypted *.3ds files, but don't own a working 3DS or Gateway device.) Is it still possible to get Citra installed and running on my machine...and will the resulting build do what I've seen on YouTube? If anybody's able to walk me through it, please do!

Pokémon Mystery Gift Editor (v1.4.3) (now with B/W support!)
isnorden replied to Grovyle91's topic in Saves - Tools
Which was the last version to allow Pokémon stat editing within the program? -
Pokémon Mystery Gift Editor (v1.4.3) (now with B/W support!)
isnorden replied to Grovyle91's topic in Saves - Tools
Nope. Can't set shininess, natures, or any other stat from within PMGE (something PikaEdit Gen 4 used to allow). When I try, PMGE displays a message "Pokemon editing is disabled for the time being"; there's apparently no way to re-enable it. So I hope this problem disappears in the next release! -

Are there any plans to allow random natures or auto-set shininess in future versions? -
I just play with DeSmuME 0.9.8; that version's worked for me for years, and my version of PokéGen has no trouble reading those .dsv files.

I used to create Wonder Cards for breeding-stock Pokémon when I played Gen4 games; unfortunately, the app I made them with (PikaEdit) doesn't support .pcd Wonder Cards now. Is there still a Windows-friendly program that creates Gen4-compatible Wonder Cards, and does any such program allow the following -- Auto-setting OT data to match the recipient? Randomly selecting a Nature if the IVs are pre-set? If any of you have or can find what I need, please let me know!

Thank you for the links! Just one more problem stands between me and Pal Park, though: how to extract those Gen 3 Pokes from my savefile.

Gen4 Pal Park -- emulator players can't transfer!

Where can I get hold of this pk2pk program, at the risk of sounding clueless? This is the first time I've heard of it.- 5 replies

Do any standalone programs exist to extract caught Pokémon from a Gen3 savefile? (Not the recent 3DS games, but the "classic" Generation III.) I've got a .sav from Emerald and would like to keep my catches as individual .pkm files; if there's a PC-friendly program in English that does the job, please tell me how and where to get it. Many thanks!

I've had trouble getting Gen3 Pokémon into Pal Park myself; I'm using Pokesav Platinum, which includes a button for editing Pal Park but no way to enable that button. (Since I've always used emulators to play, an editing tool is probably the simplest way to get my catches from Gen 3. Have I been overlooking some crucial step? Please let me know soon!

I'm playing the Platinum game through an emulator program (DeSmuME 0.98) because I don't own any handheld devices. Although the program generally performs well, it's frustrating to know that I'll never be able to use or enter Pal Park in-game; simulating a transfer from Gen3 is impossible because no emulator can simulate a GBA and an NDS running at the same time. :-( If I could buy (or even borrow) two real handhelds, I would transfer my Gen3 Pokémon that way. Since I can't, though... is there an editor which could simulate the Pal Park transfer and have Platinum acknowledge the results? If software like that exists for Windows, I'd be happy to give it a shot.

tool Project Pokemon ROM Editor 2 (PPRE)
isnorden replied to Alpha's topic in ROM - NDS Research and Development
Although I have upgraded to the latest version, I am still running into serious errors which keep me from finishing a project: I am able to work normally n the move and text editors, but cannot even open the Pokémon species editor. I am unable to create patches or export ROMs from an existing project, no matter which name or path I choose. I am unable to quit PPRE from the File pulldown menu; although clicking the close box does close the program, it also generates an error message. See the log transcript below for technical details of these errors. -
That solved the no-ROM problem (thank you!), but now a new one has emerged. I can use most features of the program except for the Pokémon species editor. Below is the latest transcript from my error log; I'd appreciate any help you can offer to correct the listed mistakes. Thank you again! There is no "Set ROM" command as such in 2.2.0; I have had to enter all the pathnames and filenames manually (even after selecting "Open ROM" in the File menu; see my attached screenshots). All of these paths and files do exist on my computer-- BASE ROM: C:\My Documents\Pokémon Fanhacks\Hacking Tools\Working Folder\Sol Platinum Refined (WIP)\Pokemon Platinum.nds DIRECTORY: C:\My Documents\Pokémon Fanhacks\Hacking Tools\Working Folder\Sol Platinum Refined (WIP)\ PROJECT NAME: Sol Platinum Refined DESCRIPTION: A personal reworking of the Sol Platinum fanhack VERSION: 0.1.0 PROJECT ROM: C:\My Documents\Pokémon Fanhacks\Hacking Tools\Working Folder\Sol Platinum Refined (WIP)\Pokemon Sol Platinum Refined.nds

After downloading and setting up the latest PPRE release, I created a new project (entering full pathnames when the program called for them). Even though I chose a base ROM and specified a different name for the hacked version, PPRE gave me a "No ROM loaded" error message whenever I clicked on the editor tabs. What might I have done wrong? I've installed Python 3 and GitHub for Windows; and I've downloaded/run setup.bat. If I overlooked some other files or steps, please let me know what to do. Many thanks! ppre.exe..txt

I finally got a third-party attack editor to work--sort of. There's a pulldown menu for the side effects of a move (like paralyzimg opponents, lowering the user's stats, firing multiple shots per use). Unfortunately, the choices list only the numerical codes for each side effect. I know that 0 means a move with no special effects added (just the damage plus any out-of-battle uses). But what do the other code numbers mean? If any of you have hacked a Gen IV game yourselves, I would like a list of translations. Thank you very much!

tool Project Pokemon ROM Editor 2 (PPRE)
isnorden replied to Alpha's topic in ROM - NDS Research and Development
Some suggestions for your next Windows release: Include an optional setting to alphabetize item, move, and species names. Finding them by code number is very hard for new users; I often lost my place scrolling through the menus. Allow users to type in the full name of existing menu items; this would cut searching time. Include the TM/HM numbers on the relevant checklist: counting unmarked groups of boxes confused and frustrated me. Make it easier to add new moves to a species' learnset without overwriting old moves. I wanted Lunatone to learn Mirror Shot at level 23 and Moonlight at level 45; but I had to erase and re-enter several existing moves to do that. I'm currently using the 0.14 beta download on a PC with Windows XP Home Edition; the executable in version 2.0 crashed whenver I tried to start a project. UPDATE: Still struggling with that beta; I can't save any changes to an existing move's type. I put my starting ROM in the right folder, selected/set the ROM, and wrote to the new ROM afterwards...but my edits don't appear when I check the next time. Am I overlooking an obvious mistake of my own, or is a bug keeping me from saving moves? -
Newbie questions: re-hacking an existing hack
isnorden replied to isnorden's topic in ROM - NDS Discussion & Help
Thanks for the replies, everyone! Does the tutorials forum have anything on getting started with the Windows version of PPRE? I have no Python/scripting experience but would stll like to fix the bugs mentioned in the first post. (Tentative name of the bugfixed re-hack: Sol Platinum Refined.) -
Newbie questions: re-hacking an existing hack
isnorden posted a topic in ROM - NDS Discussion & Help
While playing the Sol Platinum hack, I discovered a few major bugs that ruined an otherwise well-done game: The Seel/Dewgong line had a movepool glitch at level 65; the player gets stuck in an infinite loop of attempts to learn glitch moves. Legendaries from Generations I-III appeared multiple times; in my first game, I caught Celebi and the Lati@s twins three times each. Not just battled them, but caught them... Since the original hacker is no longer active, I've thought of trying to fix those two bugs myself. How easy would this be for an absolute beginner with an editing tool like PPRE? -
REQUEST: Pokémon Platinum (U) Action Replay Codes
isnorden replied to Baka_Kyuubi84's topic in RAM - NDS Cheats
I don't know whether anyone has asked yet, but do I need a master activation code to use Platinum AR codes with an emulator? I'm playing on DeSmuME 0.9.9 for Windows; if a master AR code exists for the US edition of Platinum, please pass it on. -

idea B2/W2 hack idea: Pokémon Granite Black/Marble White
isnorden replied to isnorden's topic in ROM - NDS Discussion & Help
To remove: A few species tnat clash with the flavor of the new region (mostly "gimmick" Pokémon like Unown) Movie shoots and musicals (not essential to the story). The Entralink and related missions (this hack is meant for emulator players who may not have Wi-Fi access). To change/replace: Some existing moves and species will change type. Some TMs that were dropped in Generation V (including Focus Punch, Defog, and Silver Wind) will regain TM status. Some species' abilities and move pools will change. In particular, moves originally restricted to the Dream World will be learnable by leveling up. Species that currentiy evolve by trade will gain item-based or level-up evolutions instead. To be continued... -
The premise: In my new/still unnamed region, Team Gemini is obsessed with finding a perfect balance between natural opposites. They require the local Gyms to run as two-type partnerships, with one Gym Leader's specialty complementing the other's (Fire/Water, Grass/Bug, Fighting/Dark. and so on). Yes, that set-up means Gym battles are always doubles in this game; but the player's NPC friend will join him in town between solo adventures. The Elite Four and current Champion of my new region, meanwhile, remain hidden as they stay one step ahead of Team Gemini. A secret resistance movement exists, occasionally rewarding the player for missions--but not revealing its inner workings until the final showdown to free the Elite Four. To add: New types: have already worked out the mechanics for a Light type, need help working out Sound type New moves: some variations of existing moves, some originals, some imports from Gen VI New species (regional starters, a legendary trio, and a few new Eeveelutions at least) Changelist continued in a later reply; sound promising so far?

Could you please post a download link as soon as possible? This hack sounds awesome!
