1. This is an issue brought up again and again. I don't care what we're discussing, whether it be we're debating the finer points of the DNA structure or reading a story posted by one of our fine members here, or discussing how to create a good competative battling team in Pokemon Platinum. Whatever. Pick your point. We need to have absolute respect for one another's opinions. None of that 'you're wrong and I'm right' crap. We all have reasons to why we think and believe a certain way. We need to respect that in ourselves and in the people here. If you want to debate something, state your stance, and give good examples as to why you feel that way. [As my Journalism teacher used to say, always give at least three examples for a good argument!] And don't be offended when someone states something differently than your opinion. They have their opinions, you have yours. Feel free to discuss the points and clarify where points need to be added in detail. This isn't the place to attack anyone for what they believe. We all believe differently. Religion, especially, is a topic in which you need to have great respect for others' views. Respect is everywhere you go in this forum. So you like Mudkip, why do you like Mudkip? Because it's cute? Because you like water types? You like its evolution of Swampert? Well what? Don't just say "Mupkip is the best pokemon ever." Give examples as to why, and let the reader draw their own conclusion as to why you may be right or why you may be wrong. Is my point clear? :bidoof: It's called respect, people. Have some, please.
  2. I'm glad for this. What have I said all along? We must respect everyone's opinions. It's exactly what I said in the Infraction System thread. :] It's number one for a reason; even though this is the internet, there are real people behind every terminal, and we all have emotions and feelings.

    Christianity

    This thread is just asking for flames. (Agreed 100% Destati) Christianity, and any religion for that matter, should be dealt with--in a debateable form--with a great level of respect. That's all I have to say.
  4. Are those Senior pics, Aqueel? They're quite stunning.
  5. God never stopped me from taking a razorblade to my wrists. It's called life, we have to learn to deal with it. Sometimes we deal with it in the wrong ways, obviously.
  6. Just rethorical questions, Wraith. I'm just saying that there really isn't a definate answer to this...and thus the debate could go on endlessly forever. They're things to consider while researching. I too believe that suicide is ultimately murder. Therefore it is sin and the wages of sin is death...but we also know that our God is not merciless. The fact is, we don't have to take our own lives, because He gives us the strength to overcome. We just have to look for the hope in those periods of darkness. And I never said they were one and the same, but the fact is, he killed himself. Whether it was sacrifice or suicide or both, that still remains solid as stone: Samson killed himself. Again, it is for the reader to draw their own conclusion, is it not? The thing is, sometimes God tells people different things that will eventually lead to the same answer, His. I've spent hours devoted to the subject, pouring into my Bible. I've pondering PAS for the past several months and still haven't reached a definate conclusion. This just isn't an issue where you can wake up and say "Oh, the answer is this." Again, whose life does a life taken fall upon? Everyone has to face their Maker and confront their sins, in the end. So the appropriate answer would be to say that it falls upon both. Back on topic: For an argument against it, I would say to focus on the physician, how would they feel? Would they feel guilt? Shame? How would the family feel? Would they approve? Try not to focus so much on the person that is taking their life, but more on the people around said person. As my Journalism teacher taught us: use the questions Who, What, When Why, and How. Focus a paragraph to each of the points, along with an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Therefore, the end result of this paper would be at least seven paragraphs. This is the basics of what I learned as a HS Freshman. These things are key for any paper you write, no matter what class it may be for.

  9. Okay, not mentioned by name. There are other things that are in grey matter too.... Like, we all know murder is wrong. That's in black and white. Suicide, however, is not. Yes, it was complete sacrifice to God, but it was also still suicide. He literally gave up his life for his cause! But the truth was, in taking his own life to defeat the Philistines in the process, Samson was doing God's will. God uses the works of men to show His power through them, and this moment shines that. Samson's death ultimately glorifies Him! :] This is such a tricky topic, and an issue that's close to my heart. That's why this is hard for me to debate, my feelings get too much in the way. I may have to excuse myself from this thread if it goes too far for me personally. I hope my information has been sufficient. All I know is that the Bible does not speak on the issue of suicide. There are places where it is silent, and this is one of them. It sort of leaves the issue at hand to its readers to be decided for whether it is right or wrong. Like I said before, I'm not about to bring my personal views of suicide into this thread. I'm not saying that God just leaves it out entirely. It's up to an individual to make the decision with the help of God. It's through dedicated time in prayer and study that you get an idea of whether said issue is right or wrong. It's one of those things of free will coming through. He allows us to decide for ourselves. In the end, we've still got to trust and obey Him and his commands. He says not to murder, does that also apply to murder of oneself? (Can suicide be considered as murder?) Why does one kill themself? There's question after question that comes to mind when researching this in a spiritual aspect. It's a matter of faith.

  12. The word suicide is not specifically mentioned, no. :] Believe me, I've done my research. Oh, but there is more than Saul's suicide in the Bible. Samson. He asked God to give him his power back for one last time....and it was granted, and Samson crushed the building and brought it down upon himself and everyone with him. Story shortened a lot, obviously. It's in Judges, though. I'm too lazy to go find specifics...LOL
  13. I understand how you see this, because I struggled throughout my childhood trying to see how a loving God could send even a technically 'good' person to hell...And I'm really sorry if I word this wrong. To me, God does not and HAS NEVER sent anyone to hell. People send themselves. Jesus said if you deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow Him, then they shall be saved. He's not some attention-seeking God (I'm thinking of Baal here) just a man who came to show Himself that He understands our human condition and pain...He could have been born a rich king. But no, they didn't even have a place in the inn to shelter Mary when she gave birth. No, he was born in what was probably a cave, placed into a feeding trough. Jesus was escentually born into our modern-day equivelant to poverty. And I guess what I mean is, when I say that God doesn't send a man to hell....they send themselves. All He asks is for a person to acknowledge that He understands our pain, and that He died and rose to bring us freedom from that pain. When a person refuses to do that...on the day of reckoning, Jesus will look at them and say "Go away, I never knew you." And I can only imagine the look of hurt and sorrow in His eyes when He has to say those words... The way God works, He loves people unconditionally. He sees us in our pain and moarns with us in our sorrow. He hates seeing us burdened like this and only wishes us the best on our walk on this earth. All He wants is to help us fight, but we need to be able to accept that help. In our pride, however, so few do so. So they struggle and fight all their lives, going nowhere in the process. It's because there was this angel...His name was Lucifer. He, in his pride, decided he wanted to be better than God. God banished him. Lucifer became a fallen angel along with his followers; when God created man in his own image, Lucifer, now Satan, hated man, because they were in the very image of God, and NOT HIM. He decided he needed to bring them down to his level. Thus, the fall of man when Adam and Eve took of the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That's the way I see it, now. Everything simply returns to the nature of pride. The fact is, the majority of Christians are hypocrites. I won't deny it for a minute. As my pastor says "Many people get wet..." (meaning baptism) and his point is, there is no change of heart. Baptism is the acceptance of the Holy Spirit into your life to become the helper and counselor, of sorts. But so many people do it in a ritualistic way that the meaning of its symbolism becomes destroyed in the process. (water is almost always a symbol of life, I know this because we're finishing up Huck Finn in one of my classes; it's come up a lot, ok? ) It's rebirth, taking a new self. For anyone born again of Jesus Christ becomes a new creation. Anyways, sorry if this is too offtopic for anyone. I hope I stated my point clearly enough here =/ Did I help at all, Kuo?
  14. No where in the Bible is suicide mentioned. It's an issue of grey matter, and I choose not to discuss my personal views of such. However, PAS is a tricky subject...if a patient truly wants to die, is that death fallen on the patient or the physician? I've researched the topic, and I really don't have an answer for or against it. Whose life is an individual's life, anyways?
  15. I believe wholeheartedly in the truth of Genesis. This is not simply some religion for me. In fact, I don't follow a religion. I am a Christ-follower, a Christian as they may call them, in a very personal, very spiritual sense. It is my being and my everything. This thing I have with God, it's a relationship. A real, true and powerful, intimate love relationship. Think of a newlywed man and woman, the passion they feel for each other and the zeal they have for life. That is me to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus. He was this guy who healed broken lives, and I have felt this healing in my life. He humbly laid His life down, and gave Himself to men to die an excruciating death on a Roman cross. And then, three days later, rose. Conquering death. He proved to even His own doubting disciples who He was, once again. Amazing. That is Genesis. Birth. Death. Restoration. God said let there be light, and there was light. Universe. One spoke word. "Uni" = One and "Verse" = spoken word. That is what I simply believe, nothing less. The signs are everywhere, His fingerprints detailed in our very blood. Nothing anyone could ever say will change this for me, because I simply know it is true, it screams it in my heart and in my mind. There's no going back. I am His. :]
  16. The CDC said themselves they made too much of a big deal out of it. So I'm not so worried anymore. Plus, the 'suspected case' at my school has cleared as negative, so we're good here. Of course, now there's ten more schools around the area facing their own closing crises now from suspected cases; look what we started! ;
  17.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm the same way. I give certain details, but never more than needed....

  24. I agree. Retardation means slow. Not stupid. That's like saying every child with Autism is stupid; yet they are some of the brightest, most intelligent people I know. They just can't communicate it to the rest of the world in the same way. I slip up and use it when I'm ticked. It's the same way for 'gay' saying "Oh, that's so gay" instead of "That's so stupid" is not very acceptable either. Think about it, outside of homosexuality, gay originally meant HAPPY. So you're really saying "Oh, that's so happy!" Or in the case of retarded, "Oh, that's so slow!" Yeah, now who looks dumb? I hate how the incoming teenagers/young teens are butchering the english language even more. We as Americans may be considered dumb for not switching to the Metric like the rest of the world and so forth, but do we really need another reason to be looked down upon? Butchering a language is like butchering a people. Learn to be proper in your online conversational skills, people. =/ [/endrant]
