  1. Could potentially be a thing. Where is Silver's save stored at again? Also, if you could find a friend with a GBA cart of a Pokemon game, maybe could try backing those up too. Could be used to prove or disprove the theories we have.
  2. yup. and it's always the same line of repeating rubbish. either it's reading from somewhere it's not supposed to, or the program is hiccuping and panics and keeps sending out the same stuff. Also, this is a long shot, but cleaning the contacts with some non-corrosive cleaning alcohol and try again. If not, just gotta find a working program I suppose. We pretty much know the hardware is working, so we just need to supplement it with a working software I suppose.
  3. Yeah it's a proper Silver save. Also, if you saved over the corruption, it means you're back to a proper working save, no need to worry. I still think the software is not handled to deal with version 1.1 saves. So far it reads GB saves just fine. If only you have a Version 1.0 FireRed cart we could test with.
  4. try dumping those saves and view the file with a hex editor, see if the files are different from each other. no worries, catch ya when you're back.
  5. well, that would explain why you had to buy this. Not that I'm recommending anything to buy, but I got a second hand NDS lite below $10 (before shipping costs shot through the roof due to the global situation), and a cheap NDS flashcart may be able to do the job. Basically to run homebrew to read, dump and restore saves on GBA carts. Anyhow, in yet another different direction, do you have other GB, GBC or GBA carts to test with this?
  6. well maybe Flash Boy is a clone of GBx, but probably a clone of the other version. Firmware updates needed doesn't necessarily mean hardware issues.. Anyhow, this is taking things in a different direction. Do you have a NDS/NDS Lite and a NDS Flash cart?
  7. yeah it does look real. I still think it's probably the program that is acting up, so just need to find one that works..
  8. same deal, it's pulling up the same junk. Well, given that when you dumped the ROM and a game save couldn't be found. Plus the content of the "save" is different from what is normally dumped from bootlegs. As such, I have little reason to think it is fake right now. Maybe consider opening up the cart. If it's a real cart, there should not be a battery in it (for FRLG). Also, the innards should look like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments/ih3ctm/i_have_2_authentic_pokemon_fire_red_english/ As for the one I linked, maybe it wanted a different set of drivers or something. Given the upload date for that program is newer, may be worth a shot to do whatever it needs, as long as you kept the original drivers and program safe somewhere, in case it doesn't pan out.
  9. I was wondering if it couldn't read the save properly, cause your cart is v1.1 (like perhaps an oversight caused it to be only programmed to deal with v1.0) Anyhow, I got a few ideas, since I'm getting desperate in terms of trying to help ya: 1. I've read the Flash Boy is a clone of GBxCart or something. Try the program here and see if it connects. 2. There's another user on site that also has a Flash Boy program (he's requesting for a Mac Port, but the program is here.) In terms of raw data, it looks slightly different. See if it yields anything. [use at your own risk] 3. In the link you showed me, there's a chinese version. Maybe use the chinese version (but have the english version also open as a guide to what the words mean), and see if it produces a different result. 4. Try searching the net for any other version of the program, preferably a newer one. edit: This link seems to contain a newer one (in terms of upload date) than the one you sent: https://app.box.com/s/nvme61lnm6chn3ludccto5fyy6rdvckt
  10. I've made an edit to my reply, I guess you missed it. Do respond to those too ;D (Also, mind telling me the link to their website?)
  11. so at the very least, for the most part it is working. Still, it doesn't appear to be reading your real cart's save properly. You may have to contact their support and check if they have a forum or something, since it's their product that isn't dumping your save, when you already mentioned you have a save game on the retail cart. edit: By the way, when you start up FireRed, at the animation screen at the begin, does it say "GameFreak" or "GameFreak Presents"? edit again: I also read on Reddit that you had to find then download this version of the software you're using? Try looking for a different version, preferably an updated one. Could be the software sending wrong instructions to the physical dumper.
  12. By the way, was FlashBoy used to dump the ROM of your bootleg cart, or was it something else?
  13. @Pilot just in case, I want to rule out that it's a bootleg. Use Flashboy to dump the ROM, paste the dumped ROM into a separate folder, then use my bootleg save extraction program on the ROM. Let me know about the result.
  14. same junk. are you sure you got a real cart?
  15. You uploaded the same file, just renamed. Also, what you said also makes no sense. Anyhow, it's the same junk data. how did you obtain it?
  16. why is the new save named that way? It looks almost as though it was generated from my fake cart program. edit: It's not a save. Did you extract it right? Just to be sure, for the real cart, you didn't dump the ROM then run it through my program, right?
  17. Send me the save from the cart (from flashboy), and also send me the save from your bootleg cart. You can just attach it here, on your next reply.
  18. Is it possible that you just.. state what proposed solution you have? After all, this is a forum. The post you leave behind might be up for years, and there's no guarantee you'll be around for years. By the time someone reaches out to you, you may not even be browsing our forum anymore..
  19. Before we go ahead and restore the save to your retail cart, let's try something else first. Create save on the retail cart, then save in-game twice, then dump said save with the flashboy reader. Can the dumped save from the flashboy reader be opened in PKHeX?
  20. how far did you progress into the game? did you save multiple times inbetween? edit: your save is effectively screwed. There's a repeating pattern of this more or less across the entire save. That pervasive pattern eats up even Pokémon. Given Pokémon is encrypted, having any change in the bytes make decryption practically impossible, and I can't even salvage Pokémon
  21. Chances are, your save file isn't really a save file. Anyhow, so far you're just having issues loading your save to PKHeX for *any* use, unrelated to Cute Charm Abuse. Start a new thread and upload your save there.
  22. This is the unedited save, right?
  23. Disclaimer This guide would require some way of playing edited ROMs (such as a flash cart, NDS emulator etc). This guide assumes you already know how to dump your own ROM legally, and how to play the edited ROMs. As such, this guide will not entertain such questions, as it is not the point of this guide. This method works for any language'd variant of Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2, and White 2. Note: the shinies obtained via this guide will only appear shiny. When the save is viewed in PKHeX, and when shiny Pokémon (resultant of this modification) is transferred forward, chances are they will not be shiny. Additionally, this guide will not give you 100% shiny encounters. However, the shiny odds for these fake/temporary shinies are still higher than base rate, and may interest people that do not intend to transfer forward nor trade to vanilla games. Anyhow, we will not be providing any arm9.bin or modified ROMs, as linking to or providing data files extracted from ROMs are against our forum's rules. However do not fear, as the steps regarding how to extract the arm9.bin from your own dump and then re-injecting them, are included in this guide. The 3 easy steps: 1. Extracting the decompressed version of the arm9.bin 2. Performing the edit 3. 25. So here's an answer I got from a dev: Sysbot doesn't write memories, however receiving a mon via trade does update it's memories. So the memory you got is probably due to you receiving it via trade.. edit: I was told how trading updates memories is how the game behaves normally. So if you want a specific memory, you gotta save edit.
