SM USUM Event - VC Gold/Silver Purchase Celebi (Worldwide)

From September 22, 2017 to September 21, 2018 if you buy one of the VC releases of either Pokemon Gold or Silver, you'll get a one-use serial code to redeem it on your Gen VII game.

In addition, you'll also get a 3DS Home Menu theme of your version if you make the purchase before January 15th in North America, December 31st 2017 in Europe or September 28th 2018 in Japan.

It's likely a similar scenario as the Test Marshadow being a Charizard.

They had a Test Celebi done, and they added Silvally over.

So it's the mashup of 2 events!

Well that's surely positive news. I sure hope there will be an easily accessible VC Celebi event, and for all regions. Not like the mess with VC Mew.

Edit: I probably didn't word that correctly and made it more confusing, but my train of thought was hopefully this supposed Gen 7 Celebi bundle with the VC GS would further imply an actual VC Celebi as well. But the more I think about it, I don't even know if that makes much since.

Coincidentally, I just made a Shiny Celebi Egg (using ACE) in ENG game,
trade to KOR game, and hatched it there!
(it's an idea inspired by my conversation with @HaxAras)

 

In any case, I doubt any Celebi in Gen 2 VC at this point would transfer.

Could try to make my OT Ilex and TID to be the same G5TID value as the upcoming event.

We'll find out then ><

Is there a confirmed event!? I haven't heard anything about that! 

Also! Thanks to a generous trade from @theSLAYER, I used my Silver save to convert a Korean Gastly into a Celebi using the coin case exploit. So when he is able to trade it back to his Korean save, we will have made both regular and shiny Korean gen 2 Celebi with Korean names. The first 2 of their kind.

In my opinion that means no VC Crystal.

That's pretty bad not just for Shiny Celebi but also for Underleved, Odd Egg Events and even Water Gun Phanpy we won't be able to transfer.

My Gold save is ready for the VC release anyway for tests.

They've programmed in the GB icon for 7 games, with Crystal fitting into that last slot perfectly.
(or maybe Pokemon Stadium VC? I expect that to be on Switch, tho)

Maybe Crystal will be half a year down the road. Never lose hope!

To be honest, I'm a tad disappointed.

Not only did I actually want the Silvally event, but this most likely means we're not gonna have the GS Ball to catch Celebi in-game this time either. Furthermore, still no shiny Celebi available.

This event is NOT an indication of that.

Why?
Because Gen 6 serial code Mew was given away for VC RBYG sales.

and despite that, VC Mew was also distributed.


Besides, GS ball won't work on Gold Silver. The item only works for Crystal.

I hope with GS VC Release we will be able to discover what is GF OT exclusive Celebi for future VC event (it will be difficult but I have confidence).

The Ilex Forest: Celebi was only programmed into Crystal, likewise for the item GS BALL.

I always thought is was programmed in all 3 games, haha.. since I've never researched that much about Gen 2, this caught me off guard.
And, well, guess this means it's time to lose all hope unless there's a miraculous Crystal VC release. What are the odds of that happening? I don't think it's impossible since we had Yellow VC already.

As for the VC games I've already pre-ordered the boxed version of the Gold and Silver (yes I want an empty box to sit with my other games )

I'll be restoring my original Gold save dumped from my cartridge then playing though Silver!

As nice as it would be I can't imagine Nintendo ever officially allowing saves to be transferred over. Most cart batteries are likely long since dead, so people who did have the foresight to backup their saves before that happened are likely in the small minority, even then i can't personally see Nintendo entertaining any sort of user dumping of data from game carts.

Let's say they did though, how do you think it would be done? the user posts their GB cartridge and 3DS to Nintendo for them to dump and inject the save. Maybe using a setup that will dump a save from a GB cart, erase the cart and then copy the save to a special flash card like cartridge that would quickly restore the save when inserted in to the 3DS?

I'm more than happy I can restore my save unofficially, however officially would be pretty nice I must admit.

That said i'm optimistic for a GEN 2 Celebi event and have a feeling Nintendo will make the effort for that.

@InsaneNutter given that people can post in their carts to receive Aurora Ticket (that ended only recently), I don't find it completely impossible.
Just need to find the right branch that will allow it ><

I think that was just a lot of generosity towards their players by Nintendo Italy, and they restricted shipping to/from their own boarders, iirc.

Imagine NoA doing that, and they'd probably cancel the offer asap due to a huge influx of shipments. That goes for both Gen III events and theoretical VC savefile injections.
