  1. There's more than enough information about this already. Take the time to look and help yourself. We're not your parents.

    PokeSav vs PokeGen

It's not that I'm necessarily trying to "defend" it (although I am to a degree), it's more that I want to understand why some people think that huge dialogs with lots of wasted space are noteworthily better.

    PokeSav vs PokeGen

I'm not sure how the differing text and x/y positions aren't enough to distinguish one thing from another. Btw, there's a signature feature.

    PokeSav vs PokeGen

This isn't about trying to force people to upgrade their computers. My reasoning was never even based AT ALL on the thought of people with low resolutions, in fact. It just happens to be a valid point for using small dialogs. Making them small is simply how I've always done it and I see no reason to change that.

    PokeSav vs PokeGen

Guess what I see? Tabs. Wasted space. Excessively large controls. Extra detail that PokeGen simply doesn't have added. However, I do have to agree that it has a certain appeal to it. At the same time, the way PokeGen is packed with information in such a small space is maybe more appealing. It's certainly more convenient to more people from what I've seen, including myself. Sure, I could add even more images and detail on items, attacks, Pokemon, etc, but it just bloats the file size (not that that's particularly important, though) and increases the size of the dialog needlessly. Don't forget that people use it on laptops and small monitors. These have lower resolutions, resulting in less pixel space for the window to fit in. Edit: Btw, even though I mostly disagree with you on this, having discussions like this does help to fuel my interest in continuing working on it, which is appreciated.

    PokeSav vs PokeGen

I agree that this isn't exactly intuitive, but I'm not prepared to completely redesign the program again. At least not yet. This is personal preference. Yours is in the minority from what I've seen. Also, what exactly is negative about a compact design? I don't understand. It's like you get easily confused or something and can't handle reading text that has other UI elements even remotely close to it. It will if the language UI changes are ever implemented, but it'll look idiotic, as any large dialog with huge controls does. Compared to 500 dialogs that're all so huge that you can't even have them side by side? Interesting. You have to be kidding me. You're talking about a program that presents you with some completely awkward dialog with obviously no design thought put into it whatsoever. It also has tabs (Don't forget, tabs make navigation DIFFICULT!) for the Pokedex, which aren't even using the native Windows UI design. The box display is absolutely no different than PokeGen's, aside from the fact that it's using a background image...

    PokeSav vs PokeGen

Ignoring the fact that this is randomly posted in a thread that's somewhat old... Details would be nice.
  9. You're right!!!!!!! I'm so excited to be copying like a hundred bytes to antiquated games!!! AND those bytes can simply be whatever you want them to be anyway because it REALLY DOESN'T MATTER! AFK, exploding with excitement. Please tell me you're no older than maybe 13. I'll shut up since it really doesn't make any difference anyway. This just annoys me to no end.
  10. I can't believe you're still doing this. When are you going to realize that Pokemon data is incredibly insignificant?
  11. ^ I'm not perfect. Mistakes will happen.
  12. That was sarcasm, but I really can't say when. I definitely won't let all the work that's been done on it just be wasted. There also is a solution, but I really don't want to take the time to explain.
  13. I'm not sure about Platinum and below, but the English versions did in fact have Japanese species lists. As for English to Japanese, the non-Japanese cartridges could simply be programmed to always fill in the nickname data with the species name and set the nickname flag upon trading. If trading an English Pokemon to a Japanese game can result in the nickname flag not being set, and still uses an English name, that would be something fairly baffling. 493. I can't verify this, however, but I'd wager that you're wrong, at least for the non-Japanese cartridges.Edit: Uh, I don't know how this post got so screwed up. Edit2: It seems that there aren't actually any language lists aside from the one native to the cartridge in Diamond/Pearl at least. So what exactly does happen if an English non-nicknamed Pokemon from Diamond/Pearl is traded to a Japanese Diamond/Pearl? If it doesn't result in the Pokemon having a Japanese species name or the nickname flag set, I'll be confused. (This is all curiosity, btw. This has no benefit to PokeGen, given the addition of the nicknamed checkbox in the next release.)
  14. That's a good question. I sure can't answer it.
  15. It wouldn't make any sense for 60/62/63 to be used, but I'm not saying they aren't. I simply don't have the data to say either way definitively.
  16. Example? From what I understand of what you've typed, it seems like you don't understand how nicknaming works between multiple languages of the games. As you mentioned, not having a nickname flag will result in the Pokemon's nickname data being unused. It would be a simple matter for the game to then use the origin value to determine which language list to pull the species name from. For a Pokemon that IS nicknamed, I'd imagine the name would simply be truncated to the maximum character limit on that game. I think it's five for Japanese.
  17. There's a nicknamed checkbox in beta 16. All previous versions of the program had an inaccurate method of determining nicknamed status. As for the English games... yes, that's obvious. I don't know what you're referring to specifically, however.

    What should I do

This sounds about right, and isn't an error. Item values changed between games, as I had already mentioned. Edit: This behavior doesn't exist in beta 16, but I'm not sure if that's a missed bug or if I intended for it to be that way now. Regardless, this has potentially been helpful to me, so thanks.

    What should I do

"Pokemon Diamond Personal.sav" shows both Roserade as having Poison Barbs with the target game properly set to Diamond/Pearl. I'm really not sure how you're coming up with something different, assuming you actually are. If you're seeing something different IN-GAME, that's a much different problem, but unless I've misread, you haven't said that.

    What should I do

I just tested this with a 136-byte unencrypted .pkm file and it had Poison Barb in both versions of the program. When generating a Pokemon that's supposed to have been hatched from an egg, the met location indicates ...where the egg was met. The hatch location indicates the obvious. You're probably expecting something different. It sounds like the save file was screwed up to me. For anything other than Black/White, 2.312 is advised, but there are known bugs. The next beta release will be really close to bringing it out of a "beta" stage, but I'm having trouble maintaining interest long enough to work on it. (Which is why it's taken over 2 months now.)
  21. It was beyond random of you to put that in this thread, but I'll add it to the list of things to do, as it's relatively simple.
  22. This is already done in the beta. I'm at work right now, so I can't check to see if the current public version has that feature too. Also, this was the most "exciting" thread title in a while, just because I like suggestions and opinions. Edit: Now that I'm home and not so distracted... I realized you were wanting it in 2.312. Well, the beta is intended to replace the 2.* series. It's just not finalized yet.
  23. It will, if it ever gets released...
  24. Whatever program can't do the conversion for you automatically is fail. (Yes, I know this is very helpful, but the ease of doing it is pathetic.)
  25. If you're using the beta, it's possible that the Pokedex data was incorrectly written. This has never been verified. The next beta release is being held back for this reason. (Until Pokedex reading/writing is guaranteed [or pretty close to it] to be perfect.)
