Look at all the stability this is bringing.

Presently, it's been reported that users that mod their 3DSs (regardless Arm9LoaderHax or Boot9Strap) have been affected by a 002-0102 ban.

A ban of this error code is not new, with the most notable instance being when users went online with Pokemon Sun and Moon pre-launch.
Users with this ban are able to access e-Shop, but won't be able to access their Friends list, and also not able to connect online with games.
This ban is different from a simple Game-Sync/PGL ban; this ban affects and limits all games' online-play connectivity.

It is not known if this is an indiscriminate blanketed banwave against all Custom Firmware (CFW) users,
or whether there is a underlying mechanic responsible for this.

While we are unaware whether users with CFW already have their information captured by Nintendo's servers,
    recommended actions are:

    1. Don't attempt any online play.
    2. Keep your 3DS Network Switch "OFF"
    3. Do not attempt to bypass the Ban (we don't know if it'll lead to more severe action)
    4. Wait patiently for any findings (may take weeks)

Updated: For those that want to risk the pesky ban, these safeguards below could work.
[we are not responsible if it doesn't; this only applies to people who aren't banned.]

    1. Streetpass MiiPlaza > Settings > Share Info => NO
    2. Streetpass MiiPlaza > Settings > SpotPass => NO
    3. Friend List > Settings > "Show friends what you're playing? => OFF
    4. Friend List > [you] > Favorite > "Choose your favorite title" => "Don't have one"
    5. System Settings > Internet Settings > SpotPass > Sending of System Information > NO
    6. Uninstall Homebrew CIA and remove their tickets, including but not limited to, FBI, JKSM, Savedatafiler, any out of region games, etc.
    7. To run other homebrew in a way that avoids illegal tickets, run them by injecting it into your Health&Safety. (that's how my HBL is running now)
    8. Use Tiksweep to remove remaining unused tickets
    9. Use GodMode9 to clear your Activity Log
    10. Use Cthulu - Cache Tool to clear your shared icon cache and home menu icon cache
    11. Launch and play every app (it'll be weird to have no activity in any of them)
    12. Using your Router's URL filter to prevent 3DS from communicating with other servers unnecessarily

Various developers are still monitoring the situation, to identify the detection methods.

depends on what model you have.
O3DS/O3DS XL will be the physical switch on the side

2DS/N3DS/N3DSXL will be done via Home Menu

    we can't trust hearsay.

Let's just wait for analysis and findings.

i have an idea for testing this banwave thing but i wanna run it by you before trying it out

what if we keep a backup of the unbanned save game file for precaution

save game file isn't the problem.

It's a blacklist held on Nintendo Server side.

Every console has a unique "seed file", once they log that and ban that seed file, you won't be able to connect.

This ban is affecting gamers with CFW on their 3DS'.  A Game Sync ban would be ideal.

Can this ban be bypassed if ... by magik triks... new CFW makes new "seed files" ?

IDK what is that "seed file" ~  sorry my lame english xD

CFW cannot create the seed file.

I guess it's a blessing in disguise that my ambassador B9S 3ds's impact-related semi-recurring stuck pixels became stuck again, so therefore I have a reason not to turn it on due to ugliness, that and the ban wave. I also hid my friend code so nobody can see it, such as nintendo.

Would restoring a NAND backup work for the people who did get theirs banned? It'd be a long shot though...

    Nope.

    Think of it like this.
Your seed file (LocalFriendCodeSeed) remains unaltered, between the present nand and backed-up nand.

Nintendo server side blacklisted your seed, so you won't be able to use their online services.

Hence, the Nand backup makes no difference, as said above, the seed file is the same, and you're banned server side.

The only way is to import a seed from another device thats not banned, but they could very well ban that second seed.
To add on, IIRC the Seed has a RSA signature, and the signature method wasn't dumped (I think sighax has no hold over it),
meaning that seeds cannot be generated.

The research into the Seed file and unbanning of 002-0102 has been around since the first Pokemon Sun & Moon Pirates ban.

This situation is more severe than the original,
because at the beginning only those that pirate SM early played games before official release got banned,
but it seems they have a newer detection method to catch anyone using CFW, even if they aren't pirating games early,
so unbanning by doing a seed swap might be pointless, cause if they could detect it easily, they could just ban the 3DS again.
(or make things worse, even do a NNID & Device ID ban)

According to 3dbrew, http://3dbrew.org/wiki/Nand/private/movable.sed, and https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Nandrw/sys/LocalFriendCodeSeed_B, the data for the local friendcode seed is copied to the movable.sed keyslot, which is updated when transferring or formatting. Since sighax will let us decrypt the 3DS firmware, we may be able to figure out what part of the transfer/format is usable to update the seed, which will allow us to change the seed, remove and fake the RSA it is needed for, and possibly unban a console.

According to https://techdrake.com/2016/11/here-are-some-legit-ways-to-get-unbanned-from-pokemon-sun-moon/, you can unban an error 002-0102 3ds via A: the method we know using 2 3ds, or B: use that page's method 2 which uses the movable.sed and a hex editor to unban NNID and LocalFriendCodeSeed via editing the seed in both locations. I think the 3dbrew research matches, but I am semi-positive it will work, but the source WAS gbatemp, at this link: http://gbatemp.net/threads/all-3-methods-to-get-unbanned-from-recent-ban-wave.450679/

Uncertain how long they'll last though. There are reports of even unmodded consoles getting banned through this banwave. :S

Woah... Nintendo's usually been lenient but now it looks like they're going Sony.

I've recently played it yesterday to finish off SoV but I don't think I got a ban. I also have "Send data to Nintendo" on but now after hearing this, I don't think I want to turn on my 3DS. :[

Ok, after turning on my 3DS I'm not banned and made my way to turn off "sending data via SpotPass" in System Settings. Also after talking to some friends that have CFW 3DSes I can confirm they're safe. Thank God! :D

What I'm scared of now though is that I installed A9LH for my cousin's O3DS back in February and I don't know if she'll be banned considering she's still on an older Luma version. Should I still tell her to go online even though she hasn't had the time to play it for the past weeks?

Since we don't know exactly what triggers the bans, that would be best.

    Nope.
They've already researched this long before.

    The seed isn't miraculously regenerated.
It appears that system transfer *may* swap seed once, but that's about it.

Removing and faking the RSA is the tedious part, so that shouldn't be thrown around that easily.
Until we get word from any of the devs, treat that portion as impossible.

As said, seed swapping methods existed,
but right now if they upped their game with detection,
you might end up getting your swapped seed banned too.

The bans should be permanent, as per last time.

When will they decide to stop attacking in waves? No idea, we don't work for Nintendo :/

    • Since they released over a decade ago, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games for the Nintendo DS have not had much in the way of ROM editors. Over the past few years, hackers have slowly learned more and more about the inner workings of the games, culminating in the most advanced PMD editor to date: Sky Temple.

SkyTemple is a user-friendly level editor for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that gives the user full control over graphics, scripts, Pokémon data, and more, enabling a great amount of creative freedom to prospective ROM hackers to create not just edits of the game, but entirely new levels and plots.
