<p><p><p><p><p><p>29 May 1864, arrival of Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota to Mexico, to bring stability and unification to Mexico. If the Second Mexican Empire had lived on, Mexico would have flourished. But no, it was not meant to be. The sad story of Maximilian of Mexico is why Mexico is in a rubbish state today. I will discuss his tragic fate later, as Maximilian and his archenemy Benito Juarez are both misinterpreted by historians... such is history when it is written by winners. I really do not have enough bad things to say about Juarez...</p></p></p></p></p></p>
