  1. While we're asking generic question about Pokemon editing, is it possible to give a Pokemon the Hoenn contest ribbons via Pokesav? I can only see the options for the Sinnoh contests.
  2. Wait a second, that can't be right. Also, I'm kind of disappointed with no way to catch Celebi. I'm sick of not being able to nickname my legendaries.
  3. Wrong. In Gen II, shininess was tied directly to stats. It no longer is. Shininess is a flag that is completely independent from every other value. The game's random Pokemon generator can only generate Pokemon with particular IVs, Nature, Ability, and Gender, due to the way the generator reacts with the SID and TID, but it is not a direct correlation. You can get every IV spread possible without getting a shiny. By the way, did you actually catch a Shiny Pokemon and see if it follows the same pattern? If not, then you have no idea if shinies are worth more, do you? It is Ace Trainer Abby, one of your possible competitors, I believe, who comments on the fact that Shiny Pokemon are worth more.
  4. The game explicitly states that Shiny Pokemon are worth more in the contest. Also, the highest Pokemon I have seen in the contest is a level 18, and every Scyther/Pinsir I've seen is 13 or 14. Where the heck did you see a level 28 one?
  5. That is what I was trying to explain, but I guess I didn't do a good job. The Pokegear is one of my biggest gripes with this game. The Pokegear was a good tool in G/S/C, don't get me wrong. But we replaced it for a reason. The Poketch in Sinnoh was far better all the way around. It had more functionality, better asthetics, and was far more convenient. Having access to one of the features constantly on the bottom screen was brilliant. Yes, it could do with an easier way to change Apps. But other than that, it was awesome. So, what happens for the next set of games? They remove most of the extra functions entirely, split the Dowsing Machine off as its own item, and use the bottom screen to constantly display...A MENU. I mean, what the hell? All the things they could use that screen for and they have it showing a freaking menu all the time? This, of course, was done to promote the touch screen features of the menu, which is why I have to say: News flash, Nintendo, no one likes the stylus that much. You can pull up the Itemfinder to cover the whole bottom screen (and use it while moving, which is a huge plus), but it will get reset every time you get in a fight, use an HM, or change areas. It is just a step down all the way around from the convenience we received in the Sinnoh games. Either the port was too faithful (keeping an expired tool that should have been junked), or the game was ruined to promote the touch screen, but either way, the Pokegear is the biggest downside this game has.
  6. The new Pokegear map for Roaming Pokemon is nicer, as you can tell which roamer is in an area, which you could not do in D/P/Pt. But it has a couple downsides. First, a couple of the small areas won't display the location of a roamer if they are in the route you are in (they just display your face to show that you are there), nor will it display both roamers if they are in the same area. Also, and worst of all, you can't leave the Pokegear map open the way you could the Marking Map in D/P/Pt, showing yet again why the Poketch was an improvement off the Pokegear that should not have been removed.
  7. So if I have Ho-oh on my team and use a thousand Water Stones on Eevee, I can get as many Suicunes as I want? It's like the Gen 1 Mew theories all over again.
  8. ...No. No I didn't. I thought it was supposed to be a guaranteed pass down. That is...not as helpful as it could have been.
  9. It is essentially gone, yes. I haven't heard of any data-recovery processes that would be able to save a Pokemon that has been wiped from a game that way.
  10. Stats are already somewhat color-coded in HGSS, but based off Nature. A Modest Nature Pokemon, will have the word "Sp. Atk" in red, and "Attack" will be in blue. So perhaps you can abuse that system to get the color changes you want.
  11. It would perhaps be possible, but it would require substantial editing. Kanto is not built for a trainer with a level 5 Pokemon to proceed through the region. The areas don't flow as well and are generally harder. Plus a lot of Yellow's story events would be missing.
  12. Ok, 6 was the answer I got from my stat checker, but which I was sure could not be correct. The Eevee I received from Bill was a Mild Eevee with 12 SpAtk. This indicates a SpAtk IV of 30 or 31. I bred this Eevee in HeartGold while it had the Power Lens equipped, which, according to current information, is supposed to pass down the SpAtk IV. The resulting Eevee, however, wound up with a Modest Nature, and only 5 SpAtk. Which means the Power Lens is not properly passing down the IV as it is supposed to, and breeding in HG/SS is going to be just as hard as it was in D/P/Pt.
  13. I think I might have a slight problem with the stat calculator I normally use, as it seems to be returning a couple of answers which are self-contradictory. That being the case, I figured I would ask for some confirmation here. Take an Eevee (Base Special Attack 45) Special Attack IV: 30 Special Attack EV: 0 Level: 1 What will the Special Attack stat of this Eevee be?
  14. I thought that the Battle Armor was meant to weaken and control Mewtwo, and did not enhance his abilities. And as a control mechanism, it is terrible compared to the power and efficiency of the Shadow Pokemon method. And, yes, Mewtwo was reated and raised to be a killing machine, but he also blew everything up and escaped before the experiments were completed. Converting him to a Shadow Pokemon would still enhance his abilities. Also, don't forget that you still want to capture him with decent IVs and Nature, so the Master Ball will probably still be the preferred method of capture, negating a lot of the point of the Battle Armor.
  15. Thanks for the awesome info, Klaatu. I was stuck waiting for this info. Since you can see the beasts as soon as you go into the tower, I was worried that the game might lock their stats then (wouldn't be any weirder than the Lati@s twins being locked as soon as you start the game back in Gen III). So I couldn't progress the storyline until I was sure.
  16. I got Heracross, on the route where you find Sudowoodo blocking the way (36, I think?). Just a random tree along the side of the route. Also, Pokemonfan, IIRC, the Friend Ball does not have the passive effect that the Luxury Ball has. It just makes the Friendship of any Pokemon you catch equal 200 when you catch it, with no continuing boost after that, doesn't it?
  17. Actually, I'm a little surprised we have not already seen a Shadow Mewtwo. His personality and backstory do lend themselves to the Shadow Procedure very well. He was created by scientists, and experimented on to become the ultimate fighting machine. And he is rather devoid of emotion himself, with his sole goal seeming to be to grow stronger. The experiments on Mewtwo likely led to the creation of the Shadow Pokemon. Heck, if more than one Mewtwo was created, then the second one might well have actually been the first Shadow Pokemon.
  18. Do you really want to see a level 70+ Mewtwo with attack moves that are always super effective against your Pokemon?
  19. It was not the fault of the programmers, either. It is the fault of whoever made the change on what Pokemon were traded, for not properly communicating that to the scripters. The programmers are not responsible for script-checking, they just take the script they are given and implement it in-game (usually via copy-paste). The scripters aren't responsible either. They made the change to the translation, and might not have even known that there was a potential conflict with the way the Pokemon act when traded. It was a stupid change to make anyway, as that line was one of very few indicating the Pokemon who evolve via trading, and the only clue in the game about the existence of Golem.
  20. We're getting plenty of new Pokemon games, with HG/SS, and the recently announced Gen 5 games. But the awesome Shadow Pokemon remain quiet. After the huge disappointment of Battle Revolution not having a plot, there has been no word of continuing the Shadow Pokemon or Orre stories. And I, for one, want more. Lots more. The Shadow Pokemon games brought a huge amount of depth to the games. The Shadow state, as it was in its refined form, brought a careful balance of utility versus hindrance. Do you keep a Shadow Pokemon to strike opponents and wall enemy Shadow Pokemon as you whittle down their HP? Or do you purify them to learn otherwise-unobtainable moves and level up/evolve? Double Battle are for more interesting than single battle, offering new strategies, rebalancing the standard tiers, and helping to remove the "favorite syndrome" that has plagued Pokemon games since Gen 1 (playing with just your starter or a single other Pokemon the entire game because you are attached to it and feel no need to switch). The limited number of Pokemon also had a nice change. The "catch-em-all" focus was still there, but limited to the Shadow Pokemon (you could import others via trade, but without the Pokedex, there was no in-game reason to do so). And the limited availibility kept you switching your team around to find the best combinations and kept you experimenting. The game also improved in other ways. The removal of HMs meant that you no longer had to waste a third of your team on moves that had zero battle applicability. The removal of Gyms meant that you got to feel as though saving the region was actually your primary objective, rather than an annoyance that was getting in the way of your trip to the Elite Four (seriously, how many Pokemon games feel like the only reason you are bothering to take out Team Rocket or their latest copycats is because the jerks won't let you leave the stupid city until you wipe them out?!). The plot was also generally improved in most sections, I felt, and I would love to see it continue. While Cipher may have actually been crushed at the end of , there still exists the means to create Shadow Pokemon, and there are still plenty of entities out there who would wish to do so. There also exist a number of Legendaries who could potentially be turned to Shadow Pokemon. Darkrai would be a natural choice (although I would actually kind of like to see Darkrai remaining a good guy among several other Shadow Legendaries, including Cresselia). Not to mention that, since the Azure Flute has yet to be released, there is still an Arceus on top of Spear Pillar. And Shadow Arceus would be one heck of a replacement for -001.
  21. I took Espeon. Even its basic Confusion can essentially one hit knock out most enemies. Since was still Gen-3, Bite is a special move and gives Espeon a type coverage it was sorely lacking in Gen4. And Swift gave it an option to slowly whittle down opponents for capture.
  22. It depends on what you look for in a Pokemon. Umbreon is a huge team player. Good tank stats, a decent type, and a whole ton of moves designed to screw with the opponent's party. Espeon is a hard, fast, damage dealer that wipes the floor with enemies. Both are useful, they just serve different purposes. I like them both.
  23. Lugia was definitely easier to get. Despite the OP's assertations, acquiring every Shadow Pokemon was not at all required. In fact, you needed only thirty-six other Pokemon (though they had to have the correct type matchups, which you can get either by selective captures or trading) to purify Lugia, which is nowhere near the 89 total Shadow Pokemon in , or even as many as the 51 required to get Ho-oh. Further, you do not need to complete the 100 trainer battle to get to Lugia. Even if you had, Lugia would still have been easier to get as 's 100 Battle fight permitted saving between each battle, which I do not believe Collosseum's did. The difficulty of acquiring Ho-oh in Collosseum is comparable to the difficulty of acquiring Shadow Dragonite and one of the Johto starters in Pokemon (although, again, the save changes mean that Collosseum is still harder), both of which take more effort than catching and purifying Shadow Lugia.
  24. They made a number of incredibly stupid decisions revolving around the touch screen, and that was one of them. The butchering of the lower screen's convenient Poketch app access in exchange for a cumbersome and annoying menu interface (I liked being able to have the Itemfinder on all the time without having to reinitialize it after every battle/doorway). The change to them item menu, which made finding and organizing any items two hundred times more painful (and it wasn't exactly great to begin with, given how many items there were). Having the side buttons (sprint and registered items) not be availible via button menu scrolling. Having to select the phone option on the menu every time you get an incoming call, rather than auto-answering. Having to double select every time a choice comes up because the game can't understand that a lot of people don't want to use the cumbersome and annoying touch controls... Rather than selecting each Pokemon, then selecting "Move", however, you can just hit the "Move" button before selecting any Pokemon, then one click will pick a Pokemon up, and a second will drop it. This game's removal of easy to use features in exchange for promoting the touch screen is probably the single biggest problem it has.
