Semantically speaking, even if it wasn’t for download on the internet, a demo is a demo.
People took photos, showed (then) new content or verified (then) unconfirmed info, and managed to do a short playthrough and experience the various mechanics.
Granted you probably need to be part of the lucky few (I wasn’t lucky enough for XY) to play it, but it doesn’t mean it didn’t exist, it just means it wasn’t as widespread as we would have liked (so in that sense I get what you mean ).
Like how Gen 2 & 4 had demos I didn’t even know existed, but I’m not gonna denounce it because of my ignorance nor because I didn’t get to play it

I’m kinda surprised they never released the XY demo online after the games were released tho. At least they finally learnt something
I sincerely hope Gen 8 demo isn’t limited to IRL, but given the buzz and popularity of the LGPE IRL demo, it might happen. Looks like I may need to go to PAX again this year.
