pokemonfan Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Well I recently found out something not everyone might know. You know in the pokemon anime. Well, ash is voiced by a girl! I know I was shocked. I personally think he is an avid pokemon trainer and I respect him for that. However, can he stop smiling and wipe the goofy grin off his face. Ugh, it hurts to watch sometimes. I just watch the show for the battles! Yeah, I know....
Phreen Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 wow, and whats up with her voice, why is it all scratchy, is the girl that does the voice going through puberty or something
pokemonfan Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 I dont know I heard it from a reliable friend.
ssj5goku5 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 if i remember correctly its been a girl for a while now
evandixon Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Now that I think about it, she must have a sore throat after every recording session...
randomspot555 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 If it's the newer voice, I kind of figured... =/ Both were done by women. This isn't uncommon. People doing voice acting aren't limimted to characters of the same sex.
Turtlekid2 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Timmy Turner and the one kid from Rugrats were both voiced by Tara Strong. She does a lot of voice acting for characters of either gender (not that she does Ash).
Midnight Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 It's common for young male characters to be voiced by females. Ash, Timmy Turner, and Tommy (from Rugrats) aren't the only males voiced by females. In Super Smash Bros. 64, Kirby was actually voiced by female voice actor Makiko Ōmoto. Slippy Toad from Star Fox 64 was also voiced by a female actor. Finally, the Mario character Toad is voiced by a female, and had another female voice actor in the past.
pokemonfan Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Well, I guess, until puberty people sound well girly. Ash doesn't exactly look like a man in his prime either.
Okami Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Both were done by women. This isn't uncommon. People doing voice acting aren't limimted to characters of the same sex. First one was as well? That I didn't know. Darn, that now leaves a sour taste in my mouth for my once-crush of Ash. It'll never be the same, now that he's no longer fully man to me I never said it was uncommon. I know Kite from .hack was voiced by a woman as well. :]
pokemonfan Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Gasp! Crush on ash! Wow, I didn't think it was possible. No offense intended of course. A sour and appalling taste indeed.
Torte de Lini Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Goku, in japanese, is done by a girl's voice. The Simpsons: Bart Simpson's voice is done by a girl I remain unimpressed. His original voice was fine, his current one sounds like puberty.

His original voice was fine, his current one sounds like puberty. I agree. I loved his old voice...and now...it's just like ick, isn't he supposed to be 20 or so now? Yes, I had strange fantasies in the years before I hit puberty. Ash was huge for me.
Torte de Lini Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 What about that girl he hangs with? Could that skirt be any higher?
pokemonfan Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Wow, I guess that is well somewhat normal...
Destati Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 it really isn't all that shocking for women to do the voices of young boys. Boys grow up and their voices change.
HottSushiz Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I read a magazine when i was 8, that Ash's voice was Veronica something, can't remember last name, but I'm pretty sure he was voiced by a lot of females, in different series, I hate his latest voice in the Pokemon Diamond/Pearl series, that it actually convinced me to stop watching.
Okami Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Greg Aires and Vic Mignogna are amazing though...since we're on the topic of voiceacting, might as well put two of my fave guy VAs out there <3~
D@t@_G@ll@de#3 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 yeah i guess thats why ash had no romance (trouble in the studio1!!) BTW ben ten or whatever was also voiced by a girl (my sister told me that)
Torte de Lini Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I'm glad Brock kept his voice, he's pretty badass.
Friendsxix Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Brock Kept his voice? I heard when they switched American Voice Actors EVERYONE was fired and replaced...
randomspot555 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Brock Kept his voice? I heard when they switched American Voice Actors EVERYONE was fired and replaced... They did. But the VAs were basically told to not take drastic measures in changing the voices, which is fairly common practice in the animated industry, from what I hear. Many of them do sound similar, if not exact duplicates. Ash's is a bit different, James is drastically different, but I wouldn't have known the other characters had new VAs if it wasn't for Internet Fan outrage.
