On June 4th, developers AuroraWright and TuxSH, pushed Luma3DS v8.0 to AuroraWright’s GitHub page. This version debuts Rosalina, a “custom system module” for Luma3DS.

There are many new features injected in to the CFW this time.  For example, The Rosalina menu.  At first glance, you see: Process list, Process patches menu, Take a screenshot, New 3DS menu, Debugger options, Miscellaneous options and Credits.  Going into each category, you’ll find specific tasks and features, all of which are described on the project’s official GitHub page, as well as the complete change log for version 8.0.

Since the release of Luma3DS v7.1, users were required to move away from A9LH to Boot9Strap in order to continue receiving updates from the developers.  Luma3DS v8.0 requires further upgrading to at least B9S v1.2 for continued support.

I don't understand anything but I'm happy for this.

I just need to fix my R button T-T

Rosalina attempts to natively add in functions that can only be activated after using the NTR cfw, with stuff such as screenshots, debugger mode (via pc access), and process ID list.

Also, it allows you to use any app to launch homebrew launcher, meaning to Nintendo servers, it appears that you're playing a legitimate app (not hbl).

Additionally,.3dsx can now be closed via home menu, like any other game.

This is good for making it appear as tho you aren't using any illegal titles/homebrew, when connected to network.

However, it does break compatibility various existing homebrew. The ram dumping without pc) feature that NTR has doesn't appear to be adopted right now

I have an o3DS, if that thing works then I'll be more happy.

I don't use homebrew at all ... never tried; unless cia* homebrew counts ( PKSM ) (?

those count.

so its reportedly safer running the .3dsx versions (not .cia) via Roselina.

<edit: above message are in reference to illegal title data that gets sent to Ninty servers,
and how using stuff like PKSM (illegal titles/homebrew) while connected to network may get your 3DS banned from ANY online play>

Does anyone have trouble with the button config? I even used latest nightlies but it still doesn't save my config.

The dates in my link and your link to the commit correlate.

Maybe try to compile it instead?  You’re using the lumaupdater v2.1.1 for the hourlys?

https://github.com/KunoichiZ/lumaupdate/releases/tag/v2.1.2

Nah, I honestly never used lumaupdater and this is my first time using the builds just for this issue.

Are you or anyone else here able to get it to save and if so what commit are you using? Mine is a16d1eb.

Hi,

I just disable the WiFi spot pass and even disable the option "Show your friends what you are playing". Do you think I can do an online fight against a friend tomorrow and do vgc?

That is what I have seen recommended several places and that has worked for me so far. However, until we know for sure how Nintendo is detecting and banning hacked consoles and find a way to prevent it, there is an element of risk in connecting such consoles to Nintendo servers.

New thought,

How do you load .3dsx files as described in the release notes? The only thing I could get to work was renaming the Homebrew Launcher (boot.3dsx) to something else and renaming the desired .3dsx to boot.3dsx, placing in on the root of the SD card and using the Homebrew methods from the home screen. I have a feeling that is not how it was intended to be done. If anyone knows how it is supposed to work, or a more elegant way of doing this please share.

Using this homebrew launcher (boot.3dsx on the SD root), launch the CIA Homebrew thing.

I knew about that but somehow didn't realize that is what the note was referring to. It makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for answering what turned out to be a rather dumb question xD

As of commit 1782827, the Rosalina menu hotkey has been fixed and the devs themselves said they won't make it optional as stated on the Luma github: "This feature was rejected because several key features and programs now rely on Rosalina to function properly, namely, the Homebrew Menu."

I've safely disabled it by doing the following steps:

1. Put the boot.firm of the commit mentioned above or a higher version/stable on your SD Card's root and CTRNAND via GodMode9 or FBI

2. Put your SD Card back in your 3DS and set up your Luma settings if it boots you to the menu

3. Press the default hotkey combo (in this case L+D-Pad down+Select) then go to "Miscellaneous Options" and "Save Settings"

4. Power off your 3DS and put the SD Card back into your computer

5. Download any Hex Editor (such as HxD) if you don't have one and start it.

6. In the hex editing program click File then Open and navigate to SD:/luma/config.bin and open the file

7. Go to offset 1D and edit the byte to FF as shown in this image here:

Spoiler

GqB8sJg.jpg

8. File>Save or just simply Ctrl+S!

Done! You can now move the newly changed config.bin to your 3DS SYSNAND via GodMode9 or FBI under CTRNAND/rw/luma and won't be able to boot Rosalina anymore unless you change the byte again or you delete the config file.

I needed to disable this for young kids I'm setting this up for next week and this is currently the only way I can confirm works. It won't "hide" your usage of CFW like the Kecleon3DS patch did since there's no way to disable the Luma boot menu that I know of. But hopefully someone can make something like that again, would be nice for the reason I've stated. :)
