Cool! This is a great addition. Much easier then battling for Experience.

It sort of sounds like a daycare...except you gain the happiness points. Although I do think it sounds wonderful!

It is amazing. But would it evolve? and what about the moves it learns?

It's probably just like the daycare center in regards to that.

A Pokemon pedometer, eh? Sounds like the day-care. One step, one experience point... maybe.
It's not something I'll bother with, though. It doesn't shine to me.

This just screams Japan-only to me. Think about it...
On the other hand it'll be interesting to see exactly how the transfers take place.

I hope not. In a regional Pokémon Tournament, a 14 year old kid won. When asked what would be a better improvement to the games, he replied that it would be better to use the Poketch (in this case Pokegear) to message you whether or not to give it the move and which one to replace. I read this in game informer, and maybe they will use this in this new app. What do you think?

What is this device marketed to, parents with fat kids?

Keep in mind the Pokemon Pikachu and Pokemon Pikachu 2 GS both made it outside of Japan. You know, the tomogatchi type pedometer Pikachu things.
Here's some info on the second version, if you didn't know about it.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon_Pikachu_2
The second one had an IR port that you could use to send your built up "watts" (steps) as a Mystery Gift to Gold, Silver, or Crystal (if you had a GBC with the IR port).
So since that one made it out of Japan, maybe this one will too.

If you ask me the pedometer will be available in USA also, not only in Japan. Nintendo is giving away pedometers. The games is called ''Personal Trainer - Walker''.

That's a completely different thing.

I think its popularity will have a big play on its release to America. If it bombs, I don't see them wasting the money to bring it to America. However, I don't see it not being popular. I know I would totally wear one to the gym haha.

This is a pretty cool thing. It supports fitness, and at the same time supports video games. It's a win win for kids (and obese people). Then again, they could just shake it, which would ruin the point of this pedometer.

Well it is a pedometer. The more you walk, the more you're working your legs and at the same time giving your Pokémon experience. But walking isn't really that much of an exercise, but it still is exercising.

Forgot about that. But either way, both are exercise. This is pretty cool, and I can't wait to get it, if it comes out in North America. I'll probably end up importing it.

Going outside to run is better than staying at home training a pokemon...

My friends once had a pedometer, they opened it and used the trigger to get the number up

Yeah. That ruins the entire point. It's cheating. This could do good for the health problem in America, but if you just do something to skip the effort, then there is no point for this product.

If it came bundled, I'd probably just wear it all day to school. No point walking repeatedly up and down three stories and across a block if I don't get a bonus.

I hope it comes out for North America. It would be really awesome to ride my bike and level up my Pokémon at the same time.

I could trade pokémon from D/P/Pt and level them up on the PokéWalker. :D
Their EVs won't go up though... :\
FLOOTENKERP
Jun 7th, 2009, 07:17 PM
Oh, I totally forgot about EV's. Well this thing also has battle encounters. Maybe when you fight them you get EV's. They will either use the same method or a completely different method of battling and collecting EV's.

This made me laugh until I choked, and sadly, with America these days......
Just go watch "Super Size Me" *sighs*

This could possibly, not likely, fix some obesity problems in a few places. I like this thing already, I can't wait to have one.

Wait what's the point in that?
This is sounds totally epic, and yeah i question it too, how does it make the transfer, and since it's bundled in, I'm absolutely purchasing the physical copy of Pokemon Heart Gold, & Soul Silver, this is quite convenient, i can keep it in my pocket while playing Basketball, or even walking my dog, or to school, and we do tons of walking from class, to class, although i wonder how much EXP and Happiness is given for each step.
Only 1 Pokemon? well most people do that anyway, they just focus on one Pokemon, usually their starter to level up, i don't do that, but most of my friends, and my brother does it, I find it pointless.

You know what. I think all the other games from now on will make it. Nearly everything is made in other countries. and I mean quick. D/P came out 4 years after japan, and now it's less than an year. It's getting faster... All the games since Firered and Leafgreen came out in Korea.
I wonder if you get evs for it...

I just got this feeling, but is the pedometer related to the starter following you???

I think it is a great way to get kids involved with exercise. Even more so in places like America. While you could just shake it around or open it, I believe the majority will actually use it how it should be. I use to have a Degivice when I was young and it "walked" around the digiworld when you walked. After so many steps it would encounter a battle or find something. How well you do in battle was based on how fast or hard you shook the digivice. If the PokeWalker uses this same basic concept you could in theory get EV's for the pokemon, just not ones of your choosing. Minipets are far more advanced then they use to be so this could be something really neat.

I hope the world uses the pedometer how it's supposed to be used. This is a really cool thing and I would hate to see it used in the wrong way.

^ Yeah, me too!
I really want one just so I can get back into the habit of walking daily. Of course, after a while it will probably fall out of use (Much like my Wii Fit...) but it'll be nice to have while exercizing is fresh in my mind :] It'll be nice for use on campus, definately!

I don't see it being so bad if you just shake it if you happen to really need the experience/happiness quick. It's still physical, even if you're only shaking your arm... Better endurance might be a side effect? Humans suck at holding up their arms so...
Either way, since it'll be something to do just because I'm able to, I'll just stick it on me all day while not going out of the way to get more steps. I don't think it really needs to be related to excercize... It could just be for the following around idea and having your favourite Pokémon be with you. It'll just suck if it makes random noises like Tamogotchi without being able to be disabled because then I won't be able to use it at school.
Bringing up the Wii Fit, you could use it while doing that jogging minigame.

Tam's could disable noise, though. I own three of them and played with them all the time at school ^^; Of course, then their batteries died and I don't have the money for three new watch batteries...
Ooh, that is an idea. Maybe that could get me back into Fitting again. I was starting to become pretty toned before I stopped =/ And you know what made me stop? I was doing the push-up challenge and my board stopped counting my push-ups after a while and kept making me lose! Argh.
