MTS never works for me because no one buys my junk. What exactly did you sell? And when people say "do surveys" as if it were a universal answer... lol. It doesn't work for everybody. "Only 6K NX" isn't an excuse... believe it or not that's still like 6.00 USD for virtual skills. Meh, with my compensated 5K NX I got Magic Guard... and will probably get Booster. I don't find Crit nearly as important as Booster for the very reason Evan's attacks are quite slow. + 3 speed domain is better than a normal mage's + 2 speed domain anyhow. I like Evans in general, but I hate Evan players, as many of them are KSing jerks because they do insane damage (much like DBs/D3x1355 Sins/etc...). I'm one of the few who do not DBs... mastery books or not they're still broken, and with the books, they're even more broken >_> Maple has no sense of balance. That atrocity that's coming out called Big Bang are apparently putting Heroes near the bottom of the DPM chart. Not that I care about DPM, but Heroes? That's ridiculous. The newest phenomenon: Pam's Song, for only 19,500 NX. >_< Are you kidding me?! And people are going "Oh it's fair because 1000 NX = 1 mil and 20 mil is a huge discount from 200 mil." Erm... okay, so the conversion scale works in theory, but like it or not, you're paying REAL money for some stupid item... and with a hefty price of almost 20.00 USD! Real money and virtual money you get from like killing monsters are NOT the same.

  3. What a way for people to ignore this thread. Honestly, the starters for the most part are overpowered, so you can go for whatever you'd like. Personally in my second run I tried for an Eevee and strangely got her on my first try (female only btw... ). Try to get a Cubone, who is pretty powerful in this game (Bone Club). I found Mudkip, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur to be really effective in this game as well (for the most part, waters seem to be really good in this game, and Bulbasaur's Sleep Powder = win). You can either just cheat for your personal favorite or go ahead with the personality test and get something that apparently "fits" your personality. Personality and gender affects which Pokemon you get... but natures don't have an effect on the Pokemon's stats unlike the actual game. Also take note, multi hitting moves like Bullet Seed or Fury Attack are for the most part broken, and AoE like Blizzard and Silver Wind can hit anything in the map, and ranged moves like Bubble and Razor Leaf can be a lifesaver. What you want is pretty much crowd control, defense, and mobility. Take note that water Pokemon can move through water, fire Pokemon can walk over lava, fliers can fly over terrains, and ghosts can walk through walls As for your partner... he/she has a dumb AI, but you can control what they do and disable/enable some moves (their default is to follow you). Later on, you will be able to recruit new Pokemon from dungeons if you defeat them (without a ranged move I believe). That's pretty much how you are going to "catch Pokemon". Once you beat the game you can switch your leader (your Pokemon) out for another and your partner will be treated as a regular recruited Pokemon, so he/she won't be required to tag along with you. You "withdraw/deposit" Pokemon in "Friend Zones". You will find the early stages of the game annoying when your partner keeps getting KOd for chasing an enemy you didn't want him/her to... (Bulbasaur stop chasing that Spearow!). As for stats, they are quite infinite (max being 999), which you can increase through vitamins and gummies. Gummies increase IQ as well, which allows you to learn new tactics, and depending on the color of the gummy, you gain more IQ if the Pokemon likes it or not (7 IQ for the same type gummy, 4 for being a gummy color that the Pokemon is weak to, etc...). If it's a dual type like Quagsire and you give it a Blue Gummy, it gains 11 IQ (7 for being water + 4 for being ground, who is weak to water), so dual types usually have an advantage.
  4. Well... that went well... although the water evo looked cool. I know I saw it somewhere... I just know I have.

  6. <p><p><p><p><p>I see. Yeah... I should have guessed, but what can we do? Apparently the other mods don't like it in "Creative Section" so I had to move it with the other "Rom Editing" area (then Guested moves it to ROM Ideas... joy!). I suppose RMXP is easier in terms of interface, as ROM editing is a pain, and yet I still do it. But either way, both require scripting (RGSS/XSE)... so either way it isn't that easy. How far is your ROM hack in terms of progress?</p></p></p></p></p>

<p><p><p><p><p>It doesn't look like your typical ROM hacks. Is this by any chance done by RMXP? I'm only guessing by the interface and the orange gear looking icon at the top left.</p></p></p></p></p>

  9. I'd say anything I played in my Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow are memorable, but I will condense it down to a few Pokemon. [hgsssprite]025[/hgsssprite] Pikachu In retrospect, I somewhat dislike Pikachu. At least, the anime's Uberchu for winning like everything. However, I cannot deny that it has made most of my memories. Pokemon Yellow was my first Game Boy game ever, and starting with a Pikachu that goes PIKA was a nice treat. I could talk to it, I could make it happy, I can make it go sad, I can make it fall asleep in Pewter City's Pokemon Center with that Jigglypuff. I loved watching its face go in shock as I made Bill change forms from a Pokemon into a man. It fell in love with the Clefairy in the Pokemon Fan Club in Vermillion City. It would protest loudly when I deposit it into the Pokemon Box PC. It would cry in joy as I withdrew it. In other words, Pikachu made Yellow version very much alive, more than any of the other Pokemon. I remember teaching it Thundershock, Thunderbolt, Thunder, and Slam. Please do not ask about that, I was just a kid back then. Ha ha. Eventually I used TM01 to teach it Mega Punch and TM05 for Mega Kick. Perhaps even TM19 at one point to teach it Submission. Even though it was weak, it had always remained a part of my team because I felt attached to it. Okay, so it refused to evolve. But whatever, it's a Pikachu, and it can do whatever the heck it wants. *starts spamming Thunderstones to no avail* Now, I just hate it (okay, Ash's Pikachu in the anime I guess... but not mine). Whether we know about Pokemon or not, you cannot deny that you do not know Pikachu because when someone says Pokemon, that's probably the first thing that pops out into anyone's mind (it's Mewtwo for me, but for the majority of you, I'm sure it's Pikachu). [hgsssprite]133[/hgsssprite] Eevee Eevee was denied to me when Gary snatched it from me. I was sad Then that "Mr. I Know Everything" in that secret room in Celadon Mansion gave me an Eevee! Yay! You do know my sufferings, Mr. I Know Everything! I evolved it into a Jolteon afterwards. I don't know why I did that though, but I really loved the Eeveelutions. My favorite now is Vaporeon though, but Eevee was cool to me. I knew about Pokemon cards before the game... so I saw a Flareon card evolved from an Eevee. I saw another card that said Vaporeon and it evolved from Eevee too. I'm like "what the?" How can Eevee evolve into more than one? I learned when I played the game and watched that anime episode with the eeveelution brothers. From now on, I use Eevee in game and make it a part of my team whenever I can. GSC's Eevee was cool, as I was able to teach it TM30 Shadow Ball. I duplicated it and tried to get all the Eeveelutions. I tried using Sun Stone and Moon Stone on it but to no avail. I only found out after reading a strategy guide in Blockbuster's of all places. In Platinum, I got a female Eevee with Adaptability, which was awesome. That one turned into Flareon and I don't regret the decision one bit. But it has my old habit of teaching more than one move with the same typing (Quick Attack, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast). Ha ha. Eevee is so cool. I'd always teach it TM31 (Mimic)... I don't know why. It was just my tradition. [hgsssprite]074[/hgsssprite] Geodude Geodude becomes my most memorable for owning the living daylights out of me. Yeah, it is the reason why I rage quitted Yellow version for a long time. In short: Pidgeotto used Gust! It's not very effective! Pikachu used Thundershock! It doesn't affect Geodude! Geodude used Tackle! Everybody fainted! GRRR! My friend then told me to get "Slam" on Pikachu at level 20. So I took his advice and did that after a LONG time. Got Pikachu to learn Slam... took 3 hits to beat Geodude with "it's not very effective" and missed a lot, but I got Potions ready. Then came Onix... which was trouble, but I beat it nonetheless in the end. [hgsssprite]019[/hgsssprite] Rattata Everybody catches one of these guys in the beginning... right? Or at least encounter one? Yeah, I caught one of them, tried using it, but it didn't learn enough moves. So what did I do? I taught it TMs and such... found TM12 Water Gun in Mt Moon and I saw it was able to learn it. Oh cool! So I taught it that. TM24 had Thunderbolt... and it could learn that too! COOL! Now you're thinking, I must be out of my mind. Yes I am! In fact, I had no idea what the "Special" value meant so I thought everybody's damage came from the Attack stat. I know, I'm lousy. And the funny thing is, I never really used Rattata even after teaching those TMs on it. The thing notable about Rattata was just the fact that it could learn some crazy moves like that, so it's still stuck on my mind... the Water Gun/Bubblebeam/Thunderbolt Rattata I never used. I think I should try using it.. only in my Blue version I did the same thing to Meowth. I have to stop this madness! [hgsssprite]017[/hgsssprite] Pidgeotto Wild Pidgeotto appeared! And level 9?! I found those in my Yellow Version's Viridian Forest. And the other notable thing is that the guidebook that came in Yellow version's box apparently had some misprints. Pidgeotto had Pidgeot's artwork printed on it instead and Nidoran F is an encounter in Viridian Forest too according to the manual. Ha ha. But I digress. The bird was pretty cool, and it was a nasty little bugger to catch. Took me one Thundershock and like 4 pokeballs to get it. And when I caught it, I was proud. Proud to get this awesome bird... until I realized how useless it was against Brock. Darn you! When I played GSC, I knew where Falkner got his [hgsssprite]010[/hgsssprite] [hgsssprite]011[/hgsssprite] [hgsssprite]012[/hgsssprite] Caterpie --> Metapod --> Butterfree The little bug in the forest was a funny guy. In the anime, I saw how awesome it was with Tackle and String Shot and everything, so I'm like this guy must be awesome! Right? D: Blah... didn't work out. Ooh! A wild Metapod! Anime shows me that Harden is UBER... let's get one! ... didn't work either. I heard from somewhere Metapod evolves at level 10, so I tried that. It did! COOL! Butterfree you're awesome... with Harden and... Harden?! What is going on? What do you mean no Confusion? Butterfree! Don't tell me you're just a Harden mule! In my next playthrough I did it the other way: evolve Caterpie into Metapod then Butterfree. Then it learned Confusion... wait no it didn't? It's Blue version... so I had no idea it learned Confusion at level 12. GAH! This is frustrating. So much for an early game Jeigan... In the end though, Butterfree is what saved me from Brock. Despite being 4x weak to rock... this genius named Brock has no rock attacks! Butterfree used Confusion! I win! Man, I love Butterfree... why didn't Ash's Butterfree use Confusion? Did they think a psychic bug was overpowered? Anyways, starting from that time, I used Butterfree a lot, in GSC especially. I was disappointed when there was no Butterfree in RSE, but when it came back to me in FRLG... I smiled in delight. Good ol' Butterfree. This time, I kept it all the way, and even taught it TM29 (Psychic), despite it being an "early game Pokemon". [hgsssprite]031[/hgsssprite] [hgsssprite]034[/hgsssprite] Nidoqueen / Nidoking I caught the two Nidorans... I got the female first though so I used it more. The male was a lot stronger, but in the end, I trained the blue one more than the purple one. Then I got it into a Nidorina. Once I found a Moon Stone in Mt Moon, I evolved my Nidorina into a Nidoqueen. But little did I know that the Stone disallows the learning of new moves. Nidoqueen learned Body Slam at level 23... then... it stopped. Drats. However, she was quite a powerful Pokemon, as she was taking hits rather easily and dishing out some powerful moves. I even tried teaching it TMs and found out it learned all sorts of stuff like Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, Ice Beam, Blizzard, and even Surf. I was like... what?! Isn't it weak to water? How is it swimming? I didn't argue though and went ahead and taught it some TMs and HMs. I got Nidoking much later, but because it was miles of levels behind, it wasn't as powerful for me. I taught him Pay Day though... that was funny. I really love the Nidos though. They're not too good with stats but they have some amazing movepool which can be easily abusable. Even nowadays, I always get a Nidoran and evolve it. Nidoqueen has been a staple in recurring games ever since... GSC, FR/LG, and HGSS. I think I've grown too attached to the versatile poison point Pokemon. I sometimes get Nidoking if I feel like going more offensive, but I generally get Queen. [hgsssprite]051[/hgsssprite] Dugtrio I found this guy inside Diglett's Cave in my first playthrough. It's level 31 so I catch it. I go inside Vermillion City gym. Lt. Surge sends out Raichu. I send out Dugtrio. I dig. He Mega Punches and misses. I dig out, and that's all she wrote. Ever since then I'm like AWESOME let's pwn this game Dugtrio! And that's exactly what I did. I fell in love with this triple mole Pokemon. I taught it HM01 Cut... kept Dig, taught it Tm26 Earthquake, and when I beat Giovanni I got this move that OHKOs Pokemon Fissure! I'm like... wow! This is awesome! Then I went to the league... good grief. I beat most of the league... except when I went to Lance. That was not pretty. Oh no, not even with my level 72 Dugtrio... all I had was Cut against Gyarados (I tried Dig but it said I missed every time... so I got really confused). I eventually beat the Atrocious Pokemon but I got stuck at Aerodactyl. Good grief... I never even saw Dragonite! That was the end of the league for me... a level 72 Dugtrio and a level 56 Pikachu was all I had. The others were like stupid stuff like level 15 Magikarp and stuff I kept in my party for absolutely no reason. I eventually ran out of money and I KOd all the legendary birds who could have helped. Even though Dugtrio failed me I'll always remember the times it absolutely ruled the game. I may have to try a Dugtrio run now, because now I know more about the game. Hmmm... let's try Rock Slide for a change > [hgsssprite]129[/hgsssprite] [hgsssprite]130[/hgsssprite] Magikarp --> Gyarados This guy got memorable for me because... he was the one that stopped me from winning the game. Yeah. And the fact the guy in Mt Moon ripped me off with this... FISH that only had Splash. Magikarp used Splash! Nothing happened! Good grief. In fact, when I got an Old Rod FOR FREE, I fished out NOTHING but Magikarp... LEVEL 5. I got ripped off!! But when I got it to level 20... it turned into this THING that looked cool but still kinda sucked. Aww man. But the cool thing about this guy? He just wouldn't die. No, nothing would kill it. Its defense wasn't even that great but it survived stuff easily. I didn't know why. In my Blue playthrough I got the Magikarp early and made it into a Gyarados before finishing Mt Moon by extreme grinding (along with my beloved Nidoqueen). I realized it can learn all sorts of cool moves like Thunderbolt and Fire Blast. I'm like... wow. GSC came and I caught the Red Gyarados. Cool... I guess. Now Bite is... Dark type? And its damage sucks too! Now let's see... why is that special attack so low?! Gyarados sunk from pro special attacker to a weakling with Return as its only viable move (no Earthquake either... shameful isn't it?) Gyarados only became beast in Gen IV people... if you ever play Gen II, you'll be greatly disappointed. But the memories this thing brings... how joyous it was to evolve Magikarp after a long time of hell (and Gyarados could not be fished out then either!). The only Gyarados I've ever seen aside from mine was Lance's. That's how rare and rewarding it was to get one. [hgsssprite]151[/hgsssprite] Mew The only thing I remember about this thing is how people were going "OOH THAT THING IS SO RARE!" and telling weird procedures of how to get it... and that THIS was the way to beat Mewtwo. Ha ha, yeah right. Nothing's beating RBY Mewtwo. Ever. But the cool thing about it? It can learn EVERY TMs and HMs! I guess that can account for something. The only thing that it is for me is... that unobtainable Pokemon. Until 5 years ago I never seen one but now I have one in my Yellow version without cheating. I think we know how to get it by now. If not, ask me. [hgsssprite]093[/hgsssprite] Haunter The uber Ghost Pokemon I got in Yellow version is none other than Haunter... whom I was enamored with for its large movepool. I taught it Psychic, Thunderbolt, and stuff like that. Hypnosis + Dream eater was cool and Night Shade and Confuse Ray was all it needed, I guess. I remember how uber it was in the anime... and that ghosts beat Psychics. But guess what? Lick didn't affect Psychics! And the other bad thing... they're weak to Psychic! Nonetheless Haunter was cool and remains one of my favorite Pokemon. Many of my memories come from switching in those multitude of normal moves and destroying my foes with impunity. In GSC it was even better, as I went to Red's Snorlax and used Curse + Nightmare on it with a Gastly to beat it. It's a bigger beast now that it has Levitate. Hurray for three immunities! [hgsssprite]107[/hgsssprite] Hitmonchan When given the chance to choose between Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, I picked Hitmonchan... because IT LEARNS ALL THREE ELEMENTAL PUNCHES! That's UBER, right? 35 Special says no I never knew how weak it was because like I mentioned earlier, I only looked at "Attack" and never knew what "Special" meant. But yeah, all I looked at was THOSE THREE ELEMENTAL PUNCHES and oh boy, how wrong I was. Hitmonlee was and will always be the better of the two, which is unfortunate. Hitmonchan is another Gamefreak goof-up and has not been rectified for a while. Okay, so it's physical now, but still not enough to compare with Hitmonlee's raw power and speed. Oh well, Hitmonchan is always cooler in my book. [hgsssprite]065[/hgsssprite] Alakazam This guy was just broken. 135 Special, 120 Speed, and PSYCHIC. It didn't need any other move than just PSYCHIC. Now it's nerfed and no one hears about it, but back then, Alakazam was a scary Pokemon to deal with. Its Achilles' Heel was the low defense, but it was like the ultimate Pokemon. I hated facing teams fo 6 Alakazams. Seriously now? [hgsssprite]113[/hgsssprite] Chansey This thing was always in Safari Zone, and I could never catch one. "Oh you missed the Pokemon!" It would always run away Then I go to Unknown Dungeon and see a whole slew of these. I catch them, with the occasional misses with the Pokeballs. Then I try using it. I look at the thing and I had to check the screen more than once to realize... it had like 400 HP! I was in utter shock. There can be nothing with THAT high of an HP! So out comes Lorelei's Dewgong and a Chansey with Double-Edge..... I was utterly walled. Looking back again, it had 9 Attack... NINE. O_O This thing was an utter mystery to me, but when I saw what Softboiled did, I was in awe. Okay, so I wasted 25% health... for recovering 1 HP on my party members... but the idea of a cleric Pokemon was nice. I've been looking for hours just to find it in GSC... until someone told me to put on the radio and put the calm music. It worked! [hgsssprite]009[/hgsssprite] Blastoise Blastoise, aside from being my starter, always remains one of my most memorable Pokemon. I start with it and go all the way to Unknown Dungeon. We're like best buddies. Okay, so I taught it Dig, Earthquake, Fissure, and Hydro Pump in my first game (>_>) but what I liked about it is that it had the tools to fight its "counters". Electrics? Hi Earthquake! Grasser? Say hello to my Ice Beam/Blizzard! That's how I felt at least back then. It was also the first Pokemon I ever taught Hyper Beam to. I was so proud. Blastoise is that dependable fortress you can rely on. [hgsssprite]149[/hgsssprite] Dragonite I had to list this guy here because he was too rare, unattainable unless Dratini became level 55... and so I never got it. And I never got past Aerodactyl on the first gameplay either... so I rarely saw it. Yellow's Dragonite though... Blizzard/Thunder/Fire Blast/Hyper Beam... it's some sort of an ideal moveset. I got him in GSC though (finally)... but I can say it has proved more useful in the future games, like DPP. But by that time, everybody forgot about Barney and stared at Salamence and Garchomp. Meh, no matter what, Dragonite will always remain the symbol of "achievement" for me, as it was THE original Pseudolegendary. [hgsssprite]150[/hgsssprite] Mewtwo Mewtwo... the infamous Mewtwo. The essence of what was "broken" and what defined "Uber". Look no other than RBY's Mewtwo, who was insanely powerful. Its only "low stat" was its defense of 90, which is still pretty high when you look at its 106 base HP. Its Speed was 130 and that sick sick 154 Special was enough to cause terrible terrible damage. 110 Attack was no slouch either. Heck, look at that and you have a faster and more powerful Swampert. Read through the scattered journals in Cinnabar Mansion... horror stories of a lab experiment gone wrong is he. GSC even made a reference to Mewtwo... saying there was once a cave with this horribly strong Pokemon in it. Itemfinder in the river detects the Berserk Gene. Psychic was only resisted by Psychic back then, and the other psychics had no hope of beating Mewtwo really. Level 81 Amnesia... now you're going "but Amnesia sucks!" Back then, it was basically Calm Mind on steroids... so it boosted your special stat by 2 levels. Now imagine the highest SpA AND SpDef in the game (of that time at least)... * 2 in just one turn. Now bring in STAB Psychic with that and you get a monster. Psychics were pretty much the dominant types in the metagame. If you were a Poison or a Fighting Pokemon, it meant you sucked. They rectified this in GSC when they introduced Dark and Steel Pokemon and added mass Special Defense to the fighters (like the Hitmons and Machamp), but like any other game, when something is broken and they get nerfed, that spells doom. Look where we are now... Psychics are often forgotten and Fighters are pretty high up there in the metagame... see what I'm saying? Mewtwo definitely played a big role in this, and none of us can forget this crazy psychotic mutant cat. [hgsssprite]144[/hgsssprite] Articuno My last of this article is the ice bird we all call Articuno. It's a personal thing to me more than anything really, because Articuno was the one who saved me most of the time. Now you all neglect Articuno in the competitive scene, but back then, it was quite a beast. A special value of 125 meant 125 SpDef and SpA. Now imagine that with STAB Ice Beam/Blizzard. Bye bye Lance! I even taught it Bubblebeam so it can get the jump on some fire Pokemon, although it didn't help too much because ice was neutral on fire back then. On my second playthrough of Yellow, I caught the three birds instead of KOing them, and catching them was not so fun. The Pokeballs always missed... even if they're sleeping! GRR! My aim must be so bad! I used the birds for most of the league, as it destroyed all of them with just the birds. Heck, I should just write the whole article for the three birds. [hgsssprite]145[/hgsssprite] [hgsssprite]146[/hgsssprite] What would I do without you two? Zapdos was weird, as it only had Drill Peck and Thunderbolt to work with really... and Moltres was... Fire Blast Fire Blast Fire Blast ran out of Fire Blast. Let's resort to Fire Spin... and if we dare, SKY ATTACK! Wow, they make up a lot of my memories. Articuno was the one I prized the most, not only because it was beautiful (despite low quality RB graphics... and Yellow's Articuno looked too Asian), but I pretty much spent a lot of time in the end with it, even using it to capture Mewtwo (thank you freeze). As time went by Articuno got worse and worse, while the other two got better and better. In the end, Articuno lost out and ended up in the pile of forgetfulness while we see Zapdos mostly and Moltres occasionally. But Articuno has a place in my heart, even if my game files are now gone... along with Articuno. I feel like playing this game again just to use my precious Ice bird again. Those were the days. Now... I only wish they had a story of some kind... but they were "just there" And here's one Pokemon you cannot forget...
  10. <p><p><p><p><p>"I posted a Mewtwo one on Wraith's profile"</p></p></p></p></p>

    <p><p><p><p><p>No you didn't o_o</p></p></p></p></p>

  11. Good Lord... slow down! Let me break this down bits by bits... Don't forget Recover on Gastrodon... now that Quagsire got it they're two stiff competition for each other, except Gastro has Stockpile and stuff like that while Quagsire can recover from water moves. Swampert has none of that, so it prevents them from being COMPLETELY outclased. Of course, the niche of any Pokemon is what's the important thing. But I read from Smogon... a top mod wrote "why should anyone use a Pokemon if this other Pokemon does it better?" Most people agreed to that statement. What about for the sake of having a more diverse metagame? I don't know? Did I say it's the fault of Smogon? You're taking it out of context. I did acknowledge it wasn't really the fault of Smogon but rather the players who rather take it dogmatically. Did I ever say I thought everyone was perfect? Let me make my position clear. I hate standardization, I hate uncreativity, I hate all of that. But at the same time, I am not really here to bash Smogon for what they do. Smogon is helpful, as I have stated, in multiple areas. I prefer the Sleep Clause and Evasion Clause and the likes. If you read my argument, I blame the majority of the players in the end for creating this mess of "standard" sets and "don't use this and you suck". I'll tell you that I was one of them... someone who just took the first set from every Pokemon at Smogon and pasted them and tried them out. Okay, so they worked, but nothing felt diverse. I hated fighting that Lucario who ALWAYS did the same thing by SD + Extremespeed, etc... it was boring. It's what standardization does. So what I did was during the early PP Shoddy times I had people in PP run Specs Lucario all over. The newcomers in PP Shoddy came in, fought the Lucarios the PPers had... and funnily enough, nobody expected it. In fact, nowadays, can you expect much else other than a physical Lucario? I didn't think so. It can be quite amusing to catch your opponent off guard with Pokemon with vast movepools. Depends. Subpunching set can also be the Sub + Spore + two attacks set. Subseed has seed replacing one of the moves, and Focus Punch often being kept, and are tailored to be more bulkier than the former. Well, to be fair, they can be considered the same thing. For SD, expect a counter and you can Spore one. It may not always work, but either way, Breloom is quite hated upon for many reasons... much for Spore. Victreebel and Ninetales. Your failure to spell their name kinda shows your neglect for them. Just saying... and not to be offensive, but that seems to be the mood of most competitive players It's not that people don't care much about it. I can say the same thing to some OU Pokemon... I don't really care for most of them. I use many of the Pokemon I don't care about... but because they're useful. I mean, Ninetales has some useful things in its movelist... I don't see how it can only be set with like 3 movesets. Pain Split, Calm Mind, Substitute, Will-o-Wisp, Confuse Ray, Grudge, it has a lot of support movepool too. Of course, people neglect Pokemon like this because it isn't even mentioned too much. They just see it as another "6/252/252" fodder. Whee. Defensive Ninetales can work. I mean, look at that 100 base special defense... gotta be worth something you know? Poor physical def? Hi Will-o-Wisp! All sorts of viable sets can work I'm sure... Okay, I won't say make a page giving Unown 17 sets with different Hidden Power, but almost every Pokemon can work had they been given the chance. But like I said, due to this higher metagame with the big boys cutting the line for lunch, who gets the lunch? And who's Pidgeot? Who's Carnivine? Why don't we see them more often? Not because they completely suck, but because the spotlight is headed too much on what is labeled "OU". They're OU so they must be good... er okay? I mean, there are so many misinterpretation of OU that most people think only those branded "OU" can compete in standard... and since it's "UU" or "NU" that automatically means they fail or are outclassed by something in OU. I can't say it's completely true. I didn't really join Smogon's website, so I can't really recommend anything to them. I was thinking that due to their genius, they'd figure out sooner or later, you know? But you tell them about this Victreebel and they'll all scratch their heads wondering what that is. I had to point this out when you said "Psychic isn't a viable move". That's all. Lucky on one occasion... but nonetheless, it worked at some points. It's definitely not orthodox, but its movepool is good and quite easily abusable. 60 Base Special Attack is not good at all, but it's not absolutely unusable. Still, wouldn't recommend it. Special Gyarados can be pulled off by other means though, if you can successfully pass at least one Nasty Plot or maybe two (doubt it), you can unleash a monster in your hands. Like I said, not unorthodox, but *almost* anything can work as long as they have the tools to do so. Okay, I tried Special Sneasel to no avail in Gen III... and I'm well aware of their PEMN idea, but who's to say it can't work just because it can't in theory? Scyther is even worse. 55 SpA... but with Technician and some special moves, it can be an unexpected attack to things that pump their defenses in the physical area. But an interesting gimmick nonetheless, and a surprise to those Forretress expecting to wall a Scyther and set up on it. And no, I don't encourage impractical sets, but I do encourage people to try something different for once. I do use what people call "standard sets"... sometimes with a bit of a twist in it, not for the sake of being different, but for the sake of it working to accomplish a goal for the team. You may not like Resttalk, but it does not disqualify the usefulness of it. It has its ups and downs. I won't argue about its cons, it's well noted and puts you down when you don't want it to, but if you haven't noticed, almost everybody thinks "Dragon Dance" when they see Gyarados. They don't have to, you know... but can we help it anymore? You've got my perspective. The metagamers... the elitists... and the idiots... they make it too similar... too standard. Same sets being spammed all over... too many holes in a team just because they took standard sets and smacked them into one team and called it a team. That's not how it should go. If you're not with them, you either join them, or just flat out uncared about. Just don't misunderstand me... I'll say it again, I'm not against Smogon. I'm not against their strategy dex. I hate what people have turned it into. Pretty much this...
  12. The server occasionally has its downtimes. It's not the first time this happens, so wait until SCV fixes it. He will in some due time.
  13. lol. What a way to bump an old thread. I already beat this game a while ago. But yeah, I found that part difficult... and I did utilize Growl from Bulbasaur. Squirtle doesn't get Withdraw until level 10-11 or something... and it has Tail Whip. I love hearing all your experiences... it's pretty enlightening. But I swear, Mt Bristle was quite tough. Starting Sky version now and my starter is a Eevee with a Vulpix partner. I wonder how that will go...
  14. There's a Picknicker right before Eterna Forest using a Piplup level 15, so I guess you can catch your rival's Chimchar... and that girl's Piplup if you chose Turtwig. Alternatively, you can generate codes using Pokesav. If you don't know how, play around with the tool for a while until you get a grasp of it... or I can personally generate codes for you myself I guess.

There will always be a broken class and an underpowered class... I still haven't found a truly balanced game yet. The only thing close to really balanced is Starcraft in my opinion... and that's not an MMO. WoW had underpowered Rogues as well... until one day they got broken. Yeah I don't know... you either break a class to uberdom or nerf them to total unusability. MMOs in general are... grind fests. Yeah I don't really like them. I know damio and Flootenkerp at one point played Luna Online... I don't know if they still do. Let's get back on topic... this one's about Maplestory.
  16. Take this, and that, and ALL of my sorrows! SHINING FINGER!!!!
  17. He's just teasing you. Oh whoops I posted... ha ha.
  18. I'm not suggesting Smogon should never exist. Smogon is a good website to help set certain guidelines and I do use it from time to time. They have good articles, have a damage calculator which is very useful, but it's just how people use it that bugs me. I'd be rich if I had a single unit of money for every time someone said "Smogon is always right" or the likes. I hate standardization in general... and it seems most people do that and always follow what they say. "X outclasses Y so don't ever use Y!" What if Y is my favorite Pokemon? If I had the right support, I'm sure I can make it work. I've done it a few times after all. Now okay, some Pokemon obviously won't work (Unown, Ditto, etc...) but stuff like, I don't know, Seaking. Seaking can be a beast if used properly, even if it requires more support than Gyarados. I never really liked that... I want to enjoy battling, there will be some gains and some losses, but there is nothing more satisfying than destroying your opponent with a Luvdisc or something. Standardization... yawn Most of them don't even know why the EV spreads are made as such. Even in Wifi, I see everybody with Seismic Toss and Wish Blissey and I'm wondering where they even got that. Wish is a NY event, and Seismic Toss is a FRLG move tutor. Half the people out there don't even know that and just stick event moves on their Pokemon, hack it with the right Hidden Power, etc... it's rather frustrating. What does bug me about Smogon is... for some Pokemon they don't care about, they put in "what works" and just stop there. Look at the article for Victreebel and Noctowl for example. They still did not put a viable physical Victreebel set in either... when it can easily abuse Sleep Powder/Leaf Blade/Sucker Punch/Return/Leaf Storm/Swords Dance/whatever... and their Opinion even states "SD Vicky can't work cuz it only has Razor Leaf and Return DURRR"... so some people won't even find out that it does have a physical potential. That page hasn't been edited since what, the DP times? Oh, now you ask me what a Victreebel is. Stop staring at Breloom for a second (no offense Breloom, you're cool) and look down... that pitcher plant there that always devoured James... yeah, that thing. Oh, it's outclassed by Leafeon? I don't remember Leafeon having a part Poison typing or a "reliable" Sleeping move or the ability to attack in the special side as well as the physical. People have to stop saying "X outclasses Y so Y should never be used...ever". It's getting really irritating. Noctowl... 252 HP/252 SpDef Calm nature... since it works. Erm, okay... what about, you know, maybe an attacking set? Or something else? Other stuff... Ninetales... 252/252/6 spreads lazily spread all over... Timid nature, yadda yadda yadda. No Imprison set? Imprison would be quite a useful tactic if you sneak in Hidden Power somewhere or whatnot. Okay, maybe not, Imprison would be better off on something like Gardevoir or Mismagius who have really good movepool. I don't know... just the lack of effort to the non-prominent Pokemon bothers me. And for those who do worship Smogon... there are times where it can make mistakes... just like anybody else. Yes, they can make mistakes in their analysis pages... and I'm surprised people never caught it until much later. There was this one set for a lead Deoxys-A, with Naive nature running 252 SpA/252 Speed with Extremespeed, Superpower, Stealth Rock and Mirror Coat. Never mind the fact it isn't using any SpA... and yet people copied the EV set, the nature, etc... and most people didn't even catch it. They fixed it now with 252 SpA/252 Speed, but before that... yeah, imagine all the ruckus! That's just one example though... and they shouldn't be held accountable for one little misprint, but just saying... >_> I'd argue SubSeed is just as effective as SubPunch, maybe even more so. Does that make me a sinner? Or better yet, I'm beginning to love SD + Mach Punch + Seed Bomb sets. I stuck Extrasensory on Ninetales... it proved a lot more useful than Dark Pulse as I was able to hit Infernape, Tentacruel and Gengar for super effective damage, the first two being rather common switch ins for Ninetales. It's true the metagame is teeming with Dark Pokemon (Tyranitar) and Steels (Scizor, Skarmory, Forretress, etc...), but there are times I wish I had that move rather than some other move. Okay, so Psychic is only used on STAB users like Azelf who have nothing better to do, but what about Gengar? I mean, Machamp is scary as heck, comes in, Paybacks you to one shot you while your Shadow Ball cannot claim the same thing. Infernape comes in, survives Shadow Ball, hits back with a Fire Blast that OHKOs Gengar. I found some usefulness in Psychic, even if it means "hai Tyranitar" or something... that's why there's Focus Blast, but that stupid thing misses like 9001 times in a row. Psychic isn't useless, but can be a liability if Tyranitar or a similar Dark Pokemon isn't taken out (but Tyranitar is counterable nonetheless). Never? Never say never... you never know what kind of scary things a Specs Gyara can pull out. I actually managed to take 3 Pokemon down in a team with a Specs Gyara (won't happen naturally... and it was Skarmory, Scizor and Infernape). I even tried a Specs Scyther with Technician to a similar effect (I believe Air Cutter, HP Fighting 60, Silver Wind, Vacuum Wave or something). If you have the right materials, some cool outcomes can occur. Granted, it's not the BEST way to use Gyarados, but face it, DDGyara is overrated. Whoever said that is the ONLY way to use Gyarados? I love how people are unprepared to take a defensive Gyara... or even the resttalking phazing Gyara. I even made a Choice Scarf revenger Gyara for fun, and it actually worked believe it or not. Yes, I am guilty of using DDGyara a lot (and still enamored by it), enough to sweep teams with it and making Mewtwo EX call it "Steroids" over time... but it's not the ONLY way to use it (like many people say it is). But you do bring up a good point. One has to be careful when being creative... In the end, I guess it isn't Smogon's fault, but rather the battling community in general for taking in Smogon religiously like the Competitive Pokemon Bible... We're headed off topic here... take Smogon discussions into the competitive battling section or whatnot.

We all know Nexon is AMAZING for their LEGENDARY customer support </sarcasm> Truth be told, they're not too great at managing the game at all... and fact: Dual Bladers are broken. Period. But only if you buy their skills using NX... which almost everybody who can steal from their parents' wallet seem to have. Maple has gone to hell these days... The most balanced class is probably the Evan. They do insane damage, yes, but their skills involve charge up and are overall slow to execute. But the other retarded thing... BUY MOAR NX to get skills like Critical Hit, Booster (!) and Magic Guard (!!!!!!). I don't play MMOs in general because I don't really like the premise of them. Luna Online I've heard a lot about... but I cannot be bothered to download more MMOs (I only run Maple at times because I had it in my computer for a long time...). Mages get One shotted all the time? Good grief... nothing like Magic Guard of that sort? I'll stick with Pokemon/Warcraft/Starcraft/etc for now.
