So when loading in Pokémon from gen 7 in a gen 8 save file I realized that the size is set to 0 and 0 because gen 7 didn't have size scaling unlike gen 8 Pokémon so I tried to edit the gen 7 Pokémon to have sizes id like in game but it just came up with the error  "incorrectly transferred from past generation" why? can you not make transferred Pokémon larger smaller weigh heavier and lighter? I wanted to change the sizes of the Pokémon knowing that home will be compatible with legends arceus

      Reveal hidden contents

(I don't know if we'll be able to transfer Pokémon to legends arceus because of the stat changes but that's just my opinion but I hope they find a way around it and not just let it be like lgpe one way to gen 8 and no going back and forth)

I wanted to mess around the sizes and just found it odd that you cant change the sizes despite the feature being available in gen 8.

You stated the answer in your post gen 7 (SMUSUM) does not have size or weight. So adding that data to the Pokémon in gen 8 would throw an error since it is legally impossible for those Pokémon to have that data set to anything besides 0.

Curious to know if all the Pokémon that are shiny that you transfer into gen 8 from older games will they 100% be a square shiny? or is there a small chance you get normally shiny? thank you!

No, since gens 3-7 can produce shiny Pokémon that don't have an XOR that 0 and square shiny Pokémon need the XOR to equal 0. Gens 3-5 can have a XOR of 0-8 and Gens 6-8 can have a XOR of 0-16 for a shiny Pokémon to be produced. The exception to this is virtual console Pokémon, Fateful Encounter Pokémon, and Pokémon from GO will always be square shiny. Another exception are Max Adventure Pokémon will have a XOR of 1 so they can never be square shiny.

I'm trying to add Pokemon from a Drastic DS save to PBR, but when I try opening the decrypted save, it's saying the file size is too big. Is there any way I can remedy this?

You don’t need to decrypt the PBR save first PKHeX handles that. The issue is probably coming from trying to load a decrypted save rather then an encrypted save.

    Hi Poke J!

    Thanks for the reply.

Here is the uploaded save that I'm talking about.

You might be right about other users hacking Pokémon and passing off as legit. I was probably being too naive about it.

    Thanks for your help anyway

Thanks, I took a look through the save I made sure to look at the Bulbasaur from the picture, the Kyoger you mentioned, and a random sample of flagged Pokémon. The Bulbasaur issue is indeed outlined in the error message where the proper re learn moves were not added. The Kyoger on the other hand I have a hard time believing it was legitimately caught considering that it has re learn moves filled in, but it's not the moves it would know in Alpha Sapphire (also AS does not fill in re learn moves for the Kyoger encounter) its just an assortment of moves that it can learn which leads me to believe that the Kyoger was tampered with at some point or edited to try and make it appear to be the AS Kyoger. As for the Pokémon Bank claim that withdrawing the Pokémon made them illegal I don't think is accurate. All of the randomly sampled Pokémon had the same OT, ID, and SID and where all illegal in the same way with egg re learn moves missing. If Bank was glitching when you got them I would expect various types of corruption and not each Pokémon being corrupted in the same way. Which again leads me to believe that these Pokémon were not edited correctly be someone.

Thanks for that. I noticed in the settings there's a "shady" option - which I've never seen checking validity. Is there a way to make such a thing 'shady'?

Unless it’s programmed in the answer is no. Personally I don’t see a reason why this should be fishy considering it’s something that could easily happen when people are doing the day skip trick in SwSh or doing RNG abuse with eggs in BW (I’ve done that a few time).

I don't know what you mean by a "shady option"? I've looked through the legality tab in settings and I don't see anything called "shady".

    Hello guys

So I was just now able to backup my Omega Ruby cartridge file. I then opened it on PKHeX and, to my surprise, a bunch of illegal notifications pop up.

It is surprising for a couple of reasons: I only ever traded on reddit.com/r/pokemontrades, and for a while I was an active (and honest) user of the page.

Does any of this have anything to do with sending in and retrieving from Pokémon Bank?

Even a Kyogre that was legitimately captured shows stuff like invalid Relearn Move 1 through 4 and Encryption Constant matches PID.

Pokémon that were never put in Bank don't seem to have any of these issues. Not in any of the 3 saves I backed up (OR, X and Y).

    Thanks in advance!

Without the saves being uploaded or the specific Pokémon being uploaded to the thread it’s hard to say what might be the issue and the supplied screen shot doesn’t tell a lot without the being able to see the moves on the Bulbasaur. However, you did say you got many of these Pokémon through trades online and even though you claim you’re being honest doesn’t mean others are honest. From your description, the issue is many of these Pokémon are probably hacked and the trader was trying to pass them off as legit. As for the Bank issue I personally haven’t had any issues with Pokémon being deposited as legal and then being withdrawn as illegal.

Hello, I was editing a BDSP save and noticed my 'met as egg' date could be set to long after 'met date' - is this a problem? Or is the 'met date' about the original pokemon before breeding?

If it's about the actual mon, shouldn't there be an error if the met date' is before the 'egg met date'?

Normally one would expect that the date the egg was received on should predate the date the Pokémon was met/the date when the egg hatched. But, in this case where the player is given control over their Switch’s current date the met/hatch date can come before the receive date because the date on the Switch may not be in sync with online. So now that is technically possible and PKHeX is functioning correctly by not throwing and error.

That is the part I found interesting and confusing in that article. It seems to describe transferring a pokemon from VC gen 1, to a cartridge gen 2 game, and from there transferring to gen 3, then gen 4, gen 5, gen 6, gen 7 and finally gen 8. Meaning if that is true, the pokemon wouldn't be skipping SM, USUM etc and therefore be able to collect each gens ribbons while retaining the gameboy icon on the profile.

I have no idea where you read that in the article. Legally gen 1 and 2 can not connect with gen 3 since there is no connectivity function between them. Virtual console gen 1 and 2 can connect with Bank and be withdrawn by Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon and then sent to HOME to be withdrawn by Sword or Shield. There is no legal path where gen 1 or 2 connects with gen 3, 4, 5, or, 6 which means your Gengar can not legally have those ribbons. So as I said when answering question 2 virtual console Pokémon can only have ribbons from SM, USUM, and SwSh at this point.

Thank-you again for your reply 🙂

I just wish to confirm a detail please, I came across a guide for transferring a pokemon from gen 1 to gen 8, and it explains that apparently a VC gen 1 pokemon can be transferred to a cartridge gen 2 game via the Time Capsule. If this is true, then wouldn't that pokemon still retain the gameboy icon on their profile when taken to gen 8? If so, would adding ribbons to my current gengar in shield still be considered an illegal action?

Pokémon Transfer Guide - Smogon University

Yes, if a Pokémon from a gen 1 virtual console game to a gen 2 virtual console game will still have the Game Boy icon since both of those gens use that symbol. The only visbale difference would be in the summary would say the Pokémon was from Jhoto instead of Kanto. Yes, adding ribbons to your Gengar that weren't in SM, USUM, and SwSh will make it illegal. As I stated when answering the second question this is because virtual console games can only connect with them selves and Bank.

Thank-you very much for your reply! Very helpful.

It seems my current limitation is that my gengar is showing the gameboy icon, showing it is from a VC game. Can that be removed? (I believe that would then look like how my lost gengar would have looked, with no icon). Without the VC icon, it would then be legal to have previous generation ribbons, right?

That is possible and can be done with by changing what game it is from; however, I wouldn't recommend that since depending what generation you pick Pokémon can't have any random combination of PID, nature, gender, ability, and IVs and by time those values are less coupled you have already missed out on a lot of ribbons. Since you said your last Gengar didn't have a game icon and could have ribbons leads me to believe your Gengar originated from a gen 3, 4 or 5 game. I suggest getting a Gengar from a gen 3 game base your base since then it can get almost all of the ribbons.

    Hi fellow players,

I have arrived here seeking assistance.

I'm 36 and grew up playing each of the pokemon generation games, and recall spending a great deal of time collecting ribbons on my Gengar (far too much time now that I recall). Sadly, all of effort was lost and am trying to get back to where I was before. I no longer have a gamecube, gale of darkness, half of my cartridges etc. So obtaining the ribbons naturally is really out of the question.

I would love to have my gengar edited to once again have all of his ribbons. I am unfamiliar with editing/modding, however happy to learn or pay for a service. I have quite a few questions, as this is all new to me.

    1) What generation game does gengar have to be in, in order to be edited? I recall ribbons started in gen 3. Does he need to be in each gen to obtain the specific ribbons of that gen, then move to a new gen a edit again etc?

    2) Or can I send a gengar from virtual console red to bank, then home and have it edited then with the previous generation ribbons?

    3) is there a difference between cartridge red gengar, and virtual console red gengar?

    4) I have a gengar in shield from virtual console red. Can he be edited to have all ribbons legally obtained from previous gen games?

Apologies for asking simple questions, and being unfamiliar with the process. Thank-you in advance for any assistance.

    To answer your questions:

    1) It really doesn't matter what generation of games the Gengar is sent to since PKHeX can add any ribbons that are available in that generation and from previous generations. However, it matters what game and generation the Pokémon is from. For example a Pokémon from gen 4 can not have gen 3 ribbons since any Pokémon from gen 4 games can not go to gen 3 games. Another example a Pokémon from Emerald can't have all ribbons from that gen since it didn't come from XD or Colosseum.

    2) Yes, you can do that, but it will be illegal. Virtual console Pokémon can only have ribbons from SM, USUM, and SwSh at this point.

    3) Technically no, but virtual console version is the only one that can legally go to Bank. Cartridge version of Red can only connect with gen 1 and 2, versus virtual console version of Red can connect with Bank to go to gen 7 and later gens.

    4) Read my answer to question 2.

Found a strange legality issue to do with contest stats on the latest pkhex version

I have a Sylveon that is bred/hatched as an Eevee on Omega Ruby, that is currently on a Y save file

its being flagged with the message "Invalid: Contest Stat Sheen should be 0."

because it's current sheen (and all current contest stats) are all 255

lowering the sheen to 0 does make it pass the legality check, but i think this is wrong, when a pokemon has all max contest stats, you can't get that way without eating at least one poffin, which would raise the sheen past zero, you cannot have max contest stats with 0 sheen, and yet that's exactly what pkhex seems to want?
This seems like a bug to me, or im not understanding contest stats somehow?

ORAS Pokeblocks do not raise Sheen so a Pokémon that originated from a gen past gen 4 can't have Sheen. PKHeX working as intended.

Ok thanks for these clear explanations. I use a discord trade bot to get my hacked pokémon so if I understand I have to fill "Latest (not OT) Handler" (cuz I got my pokémon by trade) and make sure that "Trainer Information" box is green (cuz i'm the original trainer)..

I’ve never used a Discord bot before, but in this case I think you might be alright leaving it blank.

  15. 3 hours ago, PinZz said:

Hello everyone, sorry in advance for my bad english, it's not my native language.

My question is : should we edit "latest (not OT) handler" or leave it blank ? For example, I created a Blaziken which is supposed to have hatched in my game, so 100% by me. Should I leave it blank or put my own name ?

And in the case of a pokémon that evolve by trading like Haunter or Kadabra, should I put someone else's name ?

I've already asked the question on the french forums but they answered me : "It doesn't matter we can only see this information in Pkhex". Yeah maybe but I want a 100% legit pokémon, without fault.

    Thanks in advance

The "Latest (not OT) Handler" is blank if the Pokémon is from that save and has never been owned by another trainer. It gets fill when the Pokémon is with a trainer that is not it's original trainer and then you will need to select that box so it turns green by clicking in that area. If the Pokémon returns to its original trainer after being with another trainer the "Latest (not OT) Handler" will remain filled; however, the "Trainer Information" box should now be green.

Im trying to use pkhex for pokemon Y and it says Attempted to load a unsupported file type/size   this could be cause from loading an unsupported generation.

PKHeX supports all generations of Pokémon games. How far did you make it into the game? Because from what I can tell the save is from very early in the game and you don't even have a starter yet. Try playing until you get your starter since people have reported similar problems due and the problem seems to be they are trying to do edits too early in their playthrough. Then save twice and try editing the save again.

I was editing my save file and I made the mistake of not backing up my save file and replaced it with the PKHex edit immediately afterwards. I had edited and exported several times minutes prior, having checked the save file in game for the changes, however after this attempt it no longer works. Using the any of the PKHex backups, even of the save files that had worked before, exporting those gives me the same results. I have enclosed the save file that results from exporting the save using the backup. Is there any way to salvage the save file to make it usable again?

For some reason the file got truncated by 64 bytes so the bytes at address 0x6040 didn’t line up properly and the header looked off. I changed the header to match one of my savefile (I don't know if this was the true cause of the issue) then I added in some padding so the data would line up at 0x6040 and fixed the checksums with PKHeX. I tested it with Dolphin and it seem to work now.

Oh weird I didn't know that about Level 1s not existing yet. That's super funky. So there's no legitimate way to obtain a level 1 pokemon in gens 1-3?

And thanks for your help that totally fixed it!

Nope, lowest level in level 2 which can be found on early routes and eggs in gens 2 and 3 produce level 5 Pokémon.

Hello, I'm having some difficulty getting a specific pokemon into a sav of Leafgreen.

I'm trying to put a Pichu into my party right after being given my starter pokemon, and everything is almost working fine - I can use it in battles and it shows up in my pokemon menu. However I can't check its summary. Doing so causes the game to hang on a black screen.

I've also experimented with some other pokemon and the same thing happens. I've attached a google drive link that contains the sav file I made containing Pichu. Any help would be much appreciated :)

    The .sav:

In the future you can upload files directly to the post it helps keep you a little more anonymous verses Google Docs. The problem with the Pichu is you set its level to 1 where the lowest level in the game is 2 and apparently the game can't load the summary for level 1 Pokémon. Just set the level to 5 for Pichu since that is the level Pokémon hatched at prior to gen 4.

Hi I used a gen3 file and my pokemon says that it should have more sheen, I was wondering how do I edit sheen thank you!

In the tab that had IV information go to the bottom and you’ll see the contest stats such as Cool and Cute. The right most contest stat box is Sheen. The contest stats and sheen max out at 255 so play around with those.

I have been doing double battles at the battle tower and my Team is Indeedee-F with Psychic Surge and Articuno-Galar with Expanding Force and every time I use the move it only hits one pokemon instead of both even though psychic terrain is in effect. My question now is if my Shield save is glitchy or its something else. Here is my Save if you want to check it out yourself. If one of you is an admin I just want to know if you could move this topic to the pokemon disscussion gen 8.

    main 1.53 MB · 1 download

No your game or save is not glitched that is the intended effect of Expanding Force. The problem is your Expanded Force user is not grounded so it does not gain the effects of the terrain. This is how all terrains work for Pokémon with the Levitate ability or is a Flying type they will not gain the effect of the terrain. Is it possible to mod the original Pokémon Moon to have Zeraora, or add it with PKHex?

    This is my dream 🥺

You would have to make a ROM hack to add it into the game. I know nothing of making mods so I'll be of no help. PKHeX will be of no assistance here since Zeraora does not exist in the game in the first place so PKHeX can't add something that isn't already in the game.

Thanks again for this explanation! I feel like I'm getting the hang of this.

I now understand why you say skip to trading with white directly because of those thrash bytes. I did not know pkhex did this correctly, so I will go that way.

One last question: if I understand correctly, there is a chance I will get banned? Even though I only use Pokebank with a legit card (black 2) and non altered pokemon?

Anytime you take advantage of 3rd party hardware or software you will be running the risk of something going wrong and in worst case scenario could result in a ban. However, all Pokémon should be legal doing this so I think there shouldn't be a high risk. I won't give you a direct yes or no because I can't see the future.

    EDIT

The reason I suggested skipping gen 4 here is due to the fact PKHeX can figure out what a pk3 file should be formatted like as a pk5 file and it'll save you time in the end. It has nothing to do with trash bytes.
