theSLAYER Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Players that visit any Pokemon Center on their birthday month, starting from November 16, 2018, will be eligible to receive a Chansey serial code, provided they show the Switch and game software. 1
Guest Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Those will sell for a high price. This is why I hate serial codes.

Guest Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Yeah, the Switch has no infrared communication port, so they didn't have much choice i guess. I hope they will continue the usual local wireless events.

BlackShark Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Serial code events are easier to collect. But I somehow feel they might have finally secured their servers

(unless they decide to revert back to language locked days, tho that means players can just start the game in that language)
Guest Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 They could introduce region locking by checking the Nintendo Account region, I guess?

theSLAYER Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 Just now, Purin said: Of course so while it'll make things troublesome, at least there's some ways around region locking XD
Sabresite Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 If I had to guess, they aren't going to use local wireless at all anymore. The fact that they require you to show your switch and game indicates that they either don't have the technology ready, or want to have the same effect without using it. Also Birthday codes will be a high price. but not that high. There are LOTS of pokemon center locations. A quick trip around Japan throughout your birthday month and you could get 100's of serial codes.

Except birthday gifts were always Infrared, not Local Wireless. They probably made it Serial Code to prevent other people from connecting, when the gift was only meant for the birthday kid. Still, I expected it a be general Local Wireless gift, not a birthday gift >< 19 minutes ago, Sabresite said: Also Birthday codes will be a high price. but not that high. Sabresite Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Local wireless allows anyone to get it anytime and the infrared is not capable of doing it on the switch (as established by @SciresM). I bet they will generate serial codes now. Might even restrict redemption using online sync services. 1
King Impoleon Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 so the switch era will be the end of serial code exchange because region locked too and nobody would buy 2 or 3 switch for collecting events

After all, the Nintendo Switch itself isn’t region locked, but the servers could very well enforce region locking (based on registered account’s region) if they so choose to. edit: I'm presently testing a new format, for future wonder cards (not that we have them yet ) WC ID?:「?」, without any preset language.
