Grades... if only the whole system was not based on some bunch of numbers that would determine the outcome of one's life... this is why I am skeptical of that system in general.

I liked Victreebel back then even if it wasn't sun based. Even in Gen II, no abilities and Sunny Day only proved to turn Grass Pokemon into setup fodder for Fire Pokemon. Now that they modified it so it is... I still like it. It makes a great offensive Pokemon in the sun and has both physical and special moves to boot. Nowadays, why bother with either Vicky or Vile when you can use Venusaur, who is just as bulky, has the same type, better movepool AND SPEED WITH CHLOROPHYLL to boot? ><img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

When they do girls and violence, they will always add some sex appeal. No doubt about that. And even then, girls shouldn't be fighting. I hate that image of tough girls being placed in people's minds these days. It has become the norms: you know in the future the sexual barrier will be torn apart!

Please could you rate my first working Competitive Battling team?

Don't worry. We were all new here at some point. You will almost always run Magic Guard on Reuniclus. You do not want Toxic or Leech Seed or any form of residual damage hurting Reuniclus: that is what makes it incredibly dangerous and a very unrelenting monster. Also due to Team Preview be careful with using Magnezone: at many times that would mean the opponent will either spam U-turn or Whirlwind on their Scizor and Skarmory, or they will reserve them for later until they are sure Magnezone is out of the picture. Just saying to be careful with that.

Oh noes. What happened?

In-game, that's Blastoise. Competitively, it's Venusaur. Blastoise was the worst one.

Eh idk. Because it learned Absorb, Hey COOL! A WATER with GRASS attack! Mega Drain was the TM then... Giga Drain didn't exist. Grass moves in general were horrid, except for the basically 100% critical hit Razor Leaf, which only Victreebel and Venusaur had. I traded in Kabuto from Red version just to get Kabutops. I need 4 more levels until it evolves. Training is a pain!

Yeah cheesy American movies. Idk... yeah I saw it coming <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue.png" alt=":P" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Please could you rate my first working Competitive Battling team?

You don't just "suggest Gen V stuff": meshing 6 OU Pokemon and putting them together and calling it a day is NOT how things work now. Though, this is Gen V we're talking about: just putting like 6 offensive Choice Pokemon together and playing it right just rips everything apart My criticisms aside, there is simply a lot of threats to look out for. Something like Scarf Latios can solo your team: revenge Salamence at + 1, trick Scarf Blissey, and mess up the rest. Also, there is this annoying thing called Team Preview, which basically means the other guy can see what your team has and vice versa. That Azelf there? Everyone is going to KNOW that Azelf is a lead variant, meaning they will try dealing with it accordingly, which already puts you at a disadvantage. That is, unless you play everything properly (remember the game is partially team structure, the rest being practice, and some luck). I don't normally do this, but since you are just transitioning to Gen V, this is the current OU list of Gen V. The list is quite limited, but you will have to get accustomed to new threats such as Jellicent, Ferrothorn, Conkeldurr, etc, so get to know them more. Some of your old Pokemon get new abilities from Dream World, such as Espeon with Magic Bounce (a perma Magic Coat), some otherwise unnotable Pokemon became scarier (such as Cloyster and his horribly overpowered Shell Smash set), and any Pokemon that CAN evolve (meaning they cannot be at their final forms) can benefit from this defensive item called Eviolite. Yes, it means Dusclops is better than Dusknoir... and I really hate that. Some former OUs have dropped to the UU level. This is UU list. I generally mix many UUs into a standards team because they synchronise really well with many OUs: all 6 OUs is just boring to me in my opinion, but nothing is stopping you from donig that. For example, Azumarill is pretty much almost anti-metagame... well that is until Excadrill got banned. In general, the new metagame is leaning towards offence, although there are some defensive Pokemon around. An example of a stallish battle. It is possible even in Gen V. Weather is more dominant than ever before. Watch out for Drought Ninetales and Drizzle Politoed. Also watch out for Sandstream Tyranitar, who is still very popular. There's also Abomasnow and Hippowdon, but they are not seen as much, but still legitimate threats. Just note that Drizzle + Swift Swim is banned if they are on the same team. Remember this is only step 1: to know what kind of Pokemon you are up against. The rest comes into practice and seeing what kind of threats can seriously hurt your team. Oh yes, and Skarmory is not affected by Toxic, so that Ninjask strategy will not work. And like randomspot, I am quite skeptical of its placement in this team as well... that is, unless, it is really working out for you.

I hate when that happens. Most of the class doesn't do it and the ones who did it have to suffer along with the rest.

Seismic Toss can hit Ghosts in Gen I. Lawl. I'll give that to Pinsir.

I don't get it. How is Kabutops the most useful of the three fossils at RBY? It's like Zapdos being the most useful of the three birds... but Articuno has the strongest special attack in game! Must be Swords Dance or something... I don't know. I found its movepool extremely limited like the BUGS of this game though.

AIDS. I can have Absorb on Kabutops but not Mega Drain. I guess I'll have to Time Machine it to do that... not that Mega Drain helps much.

It was MUCH too cheesy. "Power of love prevails!" ... "Team Rocket is blasting off again!" ... *insert American wedding movie ubiquitous PART-AY rock music in the end* ... so formulatic... I couldn't help but feel awkward when watching some parts of it, especially the songs.

You know... in Crystal, I started at Cherrygrove and in like 40 minutes I am at Mahogany o__O

Turbo mode is so broken.

So far, I only have Weepinbell, Politoed, and Typhlosion. Just these three seem to be enough to cover the whole game... so far. Contemplating on whether to put Fire Punch on Typhlosion or not. Currently with Quick Attack/Thunderpunch/Smokescreen/Flame Wheel... and if Flame Wheel runs out or isn't strong enough, I'd run Fire Punch. First thing I'd replace would probably be Smokescreen.

I need some flier...

Sudowoodo makes a great HM mule for Strength... but Rock Smash wasn't an HM at this point. Red Gyarados can Whirlpool and Waterfall. I always carry someone who surfs anyways. That only leaves Cut, Fly, and Flash. Cut and Flash goes well on Bellsprout or Oddish, but it would be awkward having two Bellsprout family on the same team... methinks.

University English? Sounds fun.

The question with Pinsir is why it even had a type? It learns a bunch of Normal and Fighting attacks (Seismic Toss hits Ghosts), and for some reason, forgot how to learn Slash in the later gens (it could Slash in this Gen, which was pretty much always critical hit).

I always liked Pinsir, but the reason I preferred Heracross was not because of its competitive viability but only because it looked cute and it was blue, my favourite colour. I don't like physical brutes in general, however. Heracross did learn that one bug move that others would not. In fact, it was not until Gen IV where actually viable physical Bug STABs and more Grass attacks were introduced. Isn't it sad competitive Netbattlers resorted to HP Grass/Bug for STAB?

Eh Kabutops was Scratch/Harden/Absorb/Slash/Leer/Hydro Pump. It was a weirdo.

Oh high rating? Nice ending for the season but awkward to watch.

Eeep. Which classes would that be?

Most Pokemon in Gen I lacked STAB, such as Pinsir. Scyther had Wing Attack... except RBY mode Wing Attack was 35 base power... which was horrible. Aerodactyl could not Rock Slide nor Earthquake, but this was the generation where Kabutops could learn Hydro Pump.

What do I do with a Tauros? Tauros was so broken in Gen I's metagame... but so hard to catch. Gen II... I'm running out of balls!

Now started Crystal version. I tried getting all three starters, and have succeeded! But I won't use any except for the one I started with until I beat the game.

I have a FWG core of Quilava, Poliwhirl, and Weepinbell. Hoping to get some good out of these guys. Yes, I started with Cyndaquil only because of the "canon" reason that the Gold character has a Typhlosion, otherwise I'd pick the Water starter. Meh... whatever, Fire starter's the best one of the three in Gen II.

... wow Poliwhirl's actually good! Rain Dance + Surf is a killer. Those are my only three Pokemon... idk who to choose for the other three.

Kabutops sucks. Rain doesn't exist in Gen I. Slash has crit hit... sure, but I'm still seeing nothing remarkable about that guy. Omastar with his 115 Defence and 125 Special? How can I forfeit that? That and he's blue :3

In all seriousness, you like Kabutops because he looks insectoid, don't you? Actually, Omastar does as well, though to be honest, I never found Omastar to be that cool. My first choice was Kabuto back then, but I gave Omastar a chance, and I actually prefer the way he attacks. It isn't overtly broken (now he has Shell Smash though, so that MIGHT be a tad broken), but Kabutops was so overrated and overused I'm like... why do I even try? He's cool and all, even overpowered in the rain, but not exactly my tastes.

Omanyte and Kabuto, though, look cute. They don't look squishy, but I have this water squirting Kabuto somewhere.

Pokemon Yellow Playthrough

I tried playing Yellow version again, and I'm actually having fun. I just defeated the League and caught Mewtwo, making me the POKEMON MASTER! ... I am living my childhood life again I guess! So far, I have seen 148 Pokemon and caught 133 of them. Yes, that includes Mew and the trade evolutions (Alakazam, Machamp, Golem, Gengar). No I did not cheat for Mew: there is a glitch to exploit to get it in any of the original Generation I Pokemon games. As for the trade evos, there's TGBDual for that. What? Yes, I have the original cartridge as well, so thank you for asking. I am missing: [icon]013[/icon][icon]014[/icon][icon]015[/icon][icon]023[/icon][icon]024[/icon][icon]026[/icon][icon]052[/icon][icon]053[/icon][icon]106[/icon][icon]109[/icon][icon]110[/icon][icon]124[/icon][icon]125[/icon][icon]126[/icon][icon]135[/icon][icon]136[/icon][icon]140[/icon][icon]141[/icon] Apparently you are not allowed to capture Team Rocket's Pokemon nor the Weedle family nor the elementals in this game. Oh yes, and no Raichu. Yes, I picked Hitmonchan over Hitmonlee. Get over it. I picked Omanyte over Kabuto because I like it better... I guess. And as for the Eeveelutions, you only get one Eevee in this game with no breeding. Yes, I like Vaporeon the most, and so that's the one I got. I have NOT seen Electabuzz, Magmar, and Kabutops. I guess I will have to play the other versions and trade in the ones I am missing to complete my Dex... as usual. If you have no link or TGBDual or Gameshark or not exploiting glitches or whatever, you would NEVER see Golem, Electabuzz, Magmar, and the final form of the fossil you did not select. There are some others like Venusaur and Pidgeot and Porygon, but they are possible to get in this game if you take the effort to obtain them. I'm still disappointed I could not see the others, so yeah... time to play Red/Blue or something. [icon]025[/icon]Some quirks about this game: There was no Special Attack nor Special Defence: both were counted as one stat called Special. Yes, that meant the Alakazam with 135 Special had 135 Special Attack AND Special Defence. Talk about broken! The Pokemon's learnset were terrible... in fact, so spaced out you would have to literally wait like 9 levels until your Pokemon learned its next move. Some Pokemon would only start with one move and would have to wait until Level 38 or something outrageous to learn a new move, such as Magmar, because in Blue version you would find it in that level. Future generations fixed that I guess. Sorry Lorshy but your bugs were inadequately powered in this generation. Pikachu cannot evolve. Forcing a Thunderstone at it will only be met with a message of refusal. The Pokemon actually start looking like the actual Pokemon, compared to its predecessors. The AI is pretty good and all, and it is a vast improvement over Pokemon RGB. However, your rival's final team could have been better. While he did teach TMs to some of the Pokemon (such as Sandslash with Earthquake), I could not help but wonder why he had no Mega Drain nor Psychic on his Exeggutor, nor a Fire Blast in Ninetales, while keeping some unorthodox moves such as Tail Whip or Barrage on them. Oh well. I cannot help but shudder at many of the useless TMs that were scattered all over this game! Sure, TM12 is Water Gun, but that would prove helpful to your Rattata or Nidoran if fighting against Geodudes in Mt. Moon (that is where you find it), but after you get outside of Mt. Moon comes the amazing TM04... with WHIRLWIND! ... but in this generation Whirlwind had no effect whatsoever in trainer battles, meaning it was incredibly useless. Well, you can teach it to some bird and transfer it to GSC if you want some use I guess... Then comes TM30, which is NOT Shadow Ball because that move did not exist, but it is the astounding TELEPORT! Interesting move if in real life, but in-game... that does NOT help! Then comes very specialised TMs such as TM37, which contains EGG BOMB, only learnable by 3 Pokemon (4 if you count Mew), which are Exeggcute, Exeggutor, and Chansey. And then there's TM41, Softboiled, only learnable by Chansey and Mew. What in the world? TM23 is Dragon Rage, the only dragon move in the game, which only hits for 40 damage every time. Available for 3500 coins at the Game Corner... as if I needed it at that point! Forget the TMs, what about the actual moves themselves? While some otherwise useless attacks such as Roar and Whirlwind have improved later , some moves have not changed much from the first Gen, such as Razor Wind and Submission. Who in their right minds thought these were great attacks anyways? Too bad Submission is the most widespread best Fighting move in this game though. Glitched moves like Focus Energy and Substitute were fixed later in Stadium: right now, Focus Energy DECREASES user's critical hit ratio while Substitute allowed the user to take status. Eww. Speaking of Substitute, when that Snorlax blows up on a substitute, it will NOT faint! Moves like Wrap or Fire Spin were almost broken, except for their accuracy, because it prevented anyone from attacking for 2-5 turns, which explains why Fire Spin was like an "ultimate move" back then. Now look at where it is at! But unlike their future counterparts, the trapped foe can switch out. Blizzard is 90% accurate. What in the world? But yes, it meant that Articuno was actually amazing in this generation. In fact, without factoring weakness or resistance, Articuno's Blizzard is the most powerful non-boosted Special Attack in the game! Fall asleep, and take a WHOLE turn to wake up. Meaning if your Pokemon wakes up, it just signals the other guy to put your Pokemon to sleep again since your Pokemon will not attack after waking up. Fixed in later gen, but clearly one can see why sleep was pretty broken. A frozen Pokemon is as good as a fainted Pokemon: it will NEVER dethaw on its own. Only way to thaw the Pokemon out is to use a Fire attack on it or use Haze (yeah Haze gets rid of status for some reason). Or of course, your Full Heal or Ice Heal and the likes, in-game! In short, Gen I's metagame was a giant trainwreck: all you need is a team of 5 Alakazams and a Chansey to win... and one can see why. Though of course, that's why Species clause was invented. Mostly Psychic Pokemon and Normals dominated in this metagame due to how the mechanics of this game worked. It is an interesting battlefield, but not for the sane. What Psychic counters? The only Ghost Pokemon family in this game had a subtype weak to Psychic (Poison) and had a Special and Speed rating trolled horribly by Alakazam's. The only Ghost attack without fixed damage (Night Shade) or support role (Confuse Ray) was Lick... which is just about as strong as Absorb. Yeah right. And even so, for some dumb reason, Ghost attacks do NOT affect Psychics in this game! Somebody messed up. What about Bugs? Half of them are part Poison as well, making them weak to Psychic, and the only Bug with a decent enough bug attack (Beedrill with Twinneedle)... you've guessed it, is Psychic weak! And you want to counter Normals too? Fighters with poor special ratings will get manhandled by the uber dominant Psychics. This is why Gen II introduced Dark and Steel types folks! To shift the balance of the metagame... though it worked a little TOO well. Forgetting about the metagame and competitive junk... the music was great and memorable and the colours that adorned this game were charming. Despite the lack of movepool the Pokemon had and all its other flaws, I was able to see past that while playing this game as a child, and still the same today... I guess. It is just that now with my grown up view with competitive battling and such that I can see where all the pitfalls were. ... oh cool. I fished out a Level 15 Gyarados in Fuschia City! Really now? That must be quite the scary pond. As usual, here is the SAV file... full of Pokemon with semi-competitive movesets (I say semi because I tried to make it work in-game and competitively... somewhat). So yeah... if you want to try some old school Pokemon, you might want to try this game out. For a game with more glitches and exploitables and the ability to evolve your Pikachu and fight a rival with a starter that has an advantage against yours, you will want to try its predecessors Red and Blue. Homework is a chore, and I'm having many problems trying to get some teachers' recommendations, fingerprints for something, etc... I'm trying to apply for some program and it is giving my headaches!

Too bad. I prefer Omastar only out of the reason I think it's more Water-typish than Kabutops is. Kabutops looks cooler no doubt, but I always preferred the blue ammonite-ish nautilus for some reason. Not to mention it seems more useful in 1st Gen.

When I caught Mewtwo today, I was lucky it did not use Psychic (I had Victreebel out!). Also, on the way to it, there were 3 Max Revives! That's not a good sign... ha ha.

Yanmega is a monster. With no Chansey in UU, it makes everything tougher. Registeel is a problem, but still gets worn down after many switch-ins. How's your team holding up?

Mmm. Just the false bride kind of thing, though it is far-fetched. I'm sure all of this is some reference to something, but I cannot pin point it. Originality is there, sure, but I swear I have seen some premise like it before...

I was just trying to be creepy. Relax.

The two are different, but Yanmega is usually stronger, but it does not have a base 120 power STAB attack. That and the threat that might be Speed Boost usually scares people.

Wrap/Bind/Clamp/Fire Spin are too broken in this generation: but their accuracy is less than stellar at least.

Did you think that whole thing reminded you of Disney's Little Mermaid (if you saw it that is)? I saw it in Korean dub so I don't know how English went, but somehow for some reason it reminded me of that. And yes, unmemorable songs!

Yanmega's downright threatening and it's like your signature Pogeyman! Well, it was someone else's before (back when PP started, but none of these guys are active anymore), but Galvantula leaves so much holes in the opponent's team for some strange reason, despite its "miniscule" 91 SpA rating. I've had some insane success with this... well, when setting it off as practice, as I don't spam Gen V Pokemon in serious battles, but so far, it seems very promising, so you can try it out. Mind you, I run Life Orb, not Choice items, and most people run Choice.

I'm playing Pokemon Yellow at the moment. Loving the nostalgia!

It looks like a nice and neat organised database chart checklist or something. Good job on this! Now I'm staring at PO and wondering why they will not allow my Weak Armour Skarmory (don't ask) cannot use Drill Peck nor Roost. They need to update that data.
