  1. Yeah, but think about it as if it were real life. Would a Golbat evolve into a (???) just because you don't have some upgraded National Dex? That's just so weird... and unthinkable. Maybe that world is hax!
  2. Ok, since the person above me voted Kyogre, I picked Latias
  3. My point exactly (regarding the DSi). No GBA slot = fail. I'll stick with my DS lite. I think Emerald came after FR/LG. Although I see no need for a remake (and the fact GSC was INCREDIBLY short), if they expanded Kanto and Johto by a larger scale, it would be awesome. Unfortunately, the geography of Johto was very linear, circular, and boring. :bidoof:
  4. I'm tied between Kyogre and Latias as my favorites... both are excellent... although I'll admit, Latios is considered superior to his sister while Groudon was the better team player back in RSE thanks to Ho-oh.
  5. Linoone with Belly Drum and Extremespeed is actually good competitively... at least in UU or a little over it. My top 5: 1) Mewtwo 2) Mewtwo All water Pokemon (particularly Squirtle I guess) and Articuno 3) Mewtwo Froslass, Ninetales and Gardevoir 4) Mewtwo All grass Pokemon 5) Mewt-argh! Stop appearing in my head! Haunter I guess...
  6. O_O Nice explanation. I knew it had something to do with the index number. While my method isn't arbitrary that's how I obtained Mew for RBY.
  7. Yeah, but you are not obligated to use the DSi at all, now are you?
  8. What comic? You have to show that to me... And I could say the same about Surfing Pokemon... let's go surf on a Zigzagoon! Great idea! *drowns* What about Dive from RSE? Let's dive underwater! Trainer: "...can't... breathe... clothes... getting wet!" And while you are surfing... how do you fight with the Pokemon you are surfing on? Trainer: "All right Empoleon, use Aqua Jet!" *Empoleon rushes to the opponent's Pokemon* Trainer: "YAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!"
  9. Thanks I hate having to have HM slaves in my team (although it doesn't matter if you're doing the One Pokemon Challenge or whatnot). Have your dream team of 6 Pokemon... not. You need those Pokemon to take part in your team while being almost useless in battle... and btw, Skarmory and Pinsir are very good in battle without any HMs, especially the former... so I would NOT keep any HM moves on them. The only HM moves worth using in competitive battle are Surf and Waterfall... that's about it. Fly is also usable in game, now that it is 90 base power, but don't use it competitively. If anything, remember that those two aforementioned HM slaves are all you really need. Tropius is a bit hard to find... I admit, but it took me one Safari Ball to catch one (and I found another one and caught it with one Safari Ball again... I don't know if that'll work for you though)... I wouldn't teach Fly or Defog to my Staraptor... especially when she is viable competitively.
  10. There are a lot of hints in DP such as the Red Gyarados on TV, Jasmine on Sunyshore, the hiker guy at Hearthome being friends with Professor Elm at Johto (he gave you the Happiny egg in D/P but not in Platinum)... and the fact the legendary birds are available for some random reason... and the legendary beasts of GSC are strangely absent. Hmmm... On the flip side, there is no real reason to make a GSC remake unlike FR/LG, where RSE were missing some Pokemon and needed FR/LG to complete the national dex. DPP has Pal Park to make things possible. Plus, GSC's maps and events were WAY too simple... it just wouldn't compete with DPP in terms of length, gameplay, and all unless they added a LOT of stuff or even expanded Kanto a lot more.
  11. While I did like the concept, I felt like something was terribly missing from this game that I was able to feel from the older games... but I just don't know what. It wasn't the same to me... really. And also, Horsea, Golbat, Chansey, and others just cannot seem to evolve if you don't have the National Dex and they become (???). What's up with that?
  12. [sprite]258[/sprite] SO I HERD U LIEK MUDKIPZ All the Hoenn starters were good though, unlike the Johto starters.
  13. This glitch is actually pretty easy to do. Here are your requirements: - Vermilion City Badge - Some Great Balls - Something with Fly - Highly recommended: a level 10 Geodude from Mt. Moon First of all, remember this. There is a Youngster in the route to Bill (after the Nugget Bridge) that has a Slowpoke. AVOID FIGHTING THIS TRAINER AT ALL COSTS! The reason this glitch works is because that Slowpoke has a Special value of 21... I'm not sure what that means, but it has something to do with Mew's programmed ID. Also, there is a Gambler at Route 8 with two Poliwags and a Poliwhirl. Again, AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS! Once you get to Celadon and go get Fly from the route to the west of it (use Cut to access that area), teach Fly to something like your Fearow or Pidgeotto or something. Since the Department Store is in Celadon, stock up on your Great Balls. Take out that Geodude you caught from Mt. Moon too. Now remember that Gambler I mentioned before? Go through the Underground Path at Route 7 and exit out at Route 8... but STAY beside the door and save. Now, step down two (or three?) steps where the Gambler will notice you and have that (!) sign on him... but before he can do that... PUSH START and use your bird to Fly to Cerulean City. If you did this right, he will do that (!) thing and the music will cue but you safely fly away to Cerulean. Ha ha ha. Sucks for him *Note: This works for several other trainers too, but this Gambler is the only one I know where this works* You are at Cerulean and if you did this right, your menu should be disabled. So if you push the start button, don't freak out. It's supposed to happen. Now go up to the Nugget Bridge and remember that Youngster I was talking about before? Go up and fight him... but this is important, make sure he WALKS UP TO YOU when he challenges you. After you take down his Slowpoke, you'll realize your menu is available again. Put that level 10 Geodude I was talking about as your first in your roster and Fly to Lavendar Town. Now head west to Route 8. All of a sudden the menu pops up [Try not to save here]. Push B and... what? You're in battle! And guess who comes out... [sprite]151[/sprite] Mew Level 7 - Pound Yeah, a level 7 Mew with only Pound. That's why I said to use that Geodude. Anyways, try not to kill Mew and weaken her enough to catch her with a Great Ball or something. It only took one try for me. If you don't succeed, restart and do the same thing from that Gambler step over again... unless you saved before entering that battle with Mew. If the latter is your circumstance and you messed up, then sorry, I cannot help you
  14. Squirtle, even if he is the worst one of the three... but that set my decisions for all my other games: pick the water type. Bulbasaur is the best one of the three, no doubt.
  15. I liked Gen II a LOT, but there were a lot of problems with it. 1) The first half of the game was TOO easy. I mean seriously... a level 50 Dragonite as the E4's strongest Pokemon (blatant anachronism here)? The second half was an embarrassment too for the lack of challenge. 2) The highest leveled wild Pokemon in the game barring the level 70 legendary bird (whichever one you deal with) are those level 51 Golbats in Mt. Silver. 3) Kanto has been butchered! It isn't fun anymore However, I will agree to this: this game has brought in a lot of innovations and changed a LOT of bugs and glitches from RBY. It may have been the first "playable" Pokemon game... although I did play RBY and found it playable enough for me. I don't know why... but GSC remains as one of my favorites, despite those shortcomings I have mentioned before. I guess the levels shrunk because it was intended for kids to play and enjoy...
  16. The internal battery dies out eventually. My Gold version did the same thing. Now it cannot save anymore. You can get it replaced somewhere if you would like.
  17. You mean that level 7 Mew thing? Yeah, it was my third psychic though... after Abra and Drowzee.
  18. Yeah, but that takes time to set up. Hacked Slaking with instant Pure Power is scary... In Emerald right before you exit Victory Road you are encountered by two trainers who use a Gardevoir and Slaking... and that Gardevoir tries to Skill Swap with that Slaking... which is scary. Then one of them sends out Dusclops to try the same thing. In doubles: Medicham + Skill Swap with a Slaking partner... *shudders*
  19. I always catch those early birds first... so Starly for me. And will someone tell me what a Bidoof is?
  20. Ouch. I wonder how you fly with a Starly. Do you grab on to his legs? Trainer: "Starly, fly!" *grabs legs* Starly: "AIEEEEEE!" *Ow my legs!!!* Tropius is more reasonable to fly with because you can ride on him Those things are wings... Tropius is part Flying if you didn't know Check this picture out: http://archives.bulbagarden.net/w/upload/5/53/Tropius_Fly.jpg A Flying Dinosaur!
  21. 1) Stealth Rocks: change damage output 4x effective: 25% <--- 2x effective: 18.75% <--- 1x effective: 12.5% 0.5x effective: 6.25% 0.25x effective: 3.125% I believe Stealth Rocks are working a little too well against those things with W4 to Rock. Sure, the numbers don't add up, but at least it doesn't render stuff like Articuno or Moltres useless. 2) Vine Whip: change PP to 35 This is a no brainer. It's a Grass type tackle with 100% accuracy... that's about it. Why did it have 10 PP to begin with? Was it because that move was so uber in the anime they were trying to deceive the game players? At any rate, it didn't work well as promised... especially when the player kept on running out PPs and had to head back to the Pokemon center or level their plant Pokemon up until it learned the better Razor Leaf or something. Now Vine Whip has 15 PP... but that's still not enough to relegate it as useful in the early game. I mean, compare it with your other 15 PP moves like Surf, Waterfall, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Shadow Ball... you get the idea. 3) Razor Wind: change power to 120, change typing to Flying, change effect to always cause flinching and have a high critical hit ratio This is Floatzel's ultimate move? I wonder what Gamefreak was thinking to make such a terrible move with such an awesome name. A normal 80 base power move that requires charging and only has a CHANCE of flinching... that's terrible! Sure, I used it with Butterfree back in my Blue version... but that's when I didn't know any better! There is absolutely NO incentive to use this move... sure my suggestion still doesn't make it useful, but moves that require charging should have an effect worth using. We have the 120 BP Solarbeam which requires no charging in the sun... we have Skull Bash that raises the user's defense in its charging turn at least... but what good is Razor Wind? It's one of those moves that hasn't changed its effect other than the flinching thing ever since Gen I. 4) Submission: change power to 120 with 100% accuracy 80 base power move with 80 accuracy with 25% recoil? No thanks... steer clear from this move right now. It also hasn't changed its effect from RBY... although it was seen a lot on GSC Mewtwos in fear of Dark types... and that was the best Fighting move then (Dynamicpunch missed too much). Let's make it a Fighting double-edge... at least that will do. Speaking of fighting moves... why is it that almost every single usable ones has a drawback in it? 5) Mega Punch: 100 Base Power with 100% accuracy The name makes it sound powerful... but right now it isn't. How about if it is a Fighting move like the name suggests? Then we'd have to do the same for Mega Kick too... I don't know. It sounds plausible at least. 6) Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Thunder Fang: change BP to 70 It's too weak right now... and that 95% accuracy bites. I don't know if 70 makes it useful, but 65 is not good. I mean, we already have those 65 base power moves of the same elements like Flame Wheel and Spark... and they're both 100% accurate. So why bother with the fangs now? 7) Poison Fang: change BP to 70 It looks like it goes in tandem with the elemental fangs I guess. Even its animation suggests it is part of it or something. 8) Aqua Tail: change accuracy to 100% Earth Power is 100% accurate... why not Aqua Tail? Although I will say I'm a little iffy on this... 9) Drain Punch: change PP to 10 It's a Fighting Giga Drain... I don't see why not 10) Energy Ball: change PP to 15 It's a Grass Shadow Ball... 11) Raise Blizzard's accuracy slightly... maybe up to 75 or 80? Thunder has 10 PP and has a better chance of paralyzing stuff. Blizzard, on the other hand, not only has 5 PP, but freezing only works 10% of the time, and freezing itself doesn't work to well in this game unless I was the one frozen (I'd post my video with Ludicolo who got frozen for 12 turns straight from a Milotic's Ice Beam, but I'd rather not)... I don't know if I can think of anything else... any suggestions?
  22. Usually I don't relegate Surf and Waterfall to HM slaves because both are usable... although the latter only became usable starting from D/P because before that Surf overshadowed it. I have two HM slaves: Tropius - Cut - Rock Smash - Fly - Defog Bibarel - Strength - Surf - Waterfall - Rock Climb That's all I need.
  23. Creative moveset... meaning not Smogon? Okay... Victreebel@Leftovers Swords Dance Sweeper Adamant 76 HP/252 Atk/180 Speed - Swords Dance - Body Slam/Return/Sleep Powder - Sucker Punch/Leaf Storm - Leaf Blade 180 speed outspeeds most neutral base 60s. Victreebel gets Leaf Blade back in Platinum, but oddly cannot learn Poison Jab nor Gunk Shot (the latter I understand but the former?) So the concept is simple... either Sleep the enemy or hope for a paralysis with Body Slam (FR/LG tutor) and Swords Dance up, and start attacking with STAB Leaf Blade, which actually has type coverage compared to Gen III's physical Sludge Bomb. To fight against faster Psychics like Alakazam, you may opt for Sucker Punch to take them down. If Psychics are least of your worries, you can try Leaf Storm to hurt physical walls better, but Sucker Punch is preferred. For that second slot, use Return for type coverage, Body Slam for a chance of paralysis (or Stun Spore if you wish), or Sleep Powder to put one counter to sleep, depending on what your team needs the most.
  24. My lead Aerodactyl has Taunt, Stealth Rock, Earthquake, and Rock Slide. Basically Taunt disables those people who like to use Stealth Rock or cast Hypnosis or whatnot, which are usually leads. Aerodactyl is one of the fastest users of Taunt in the game. Then he can proceed to Stealth Rock the opposing side. Rock Slide and Earthquake are extras really... Rock Slide has STAB plus has that chance of flinching which works well with his speed and Earthquake is to hit those annoying Electrics and other nuisances like Infernape. He also carries Focus Sash... but there are other viable sets for Aerodactyl. Would you like to know?
  25. No, but Toxic's damage increases every turn. It goes from 1/16 to 2/16 and so on until the max damage of cutting 15/16 health. Toxic is the bane of most if not all bulky waters. Regular poison only does 1/16 damage every turn. Burn cuts off 1/8 (I might be wrong on the number) health and cuts 50% of attack power, useful in standard battles, but watch out for random Heatran switch-ins!
