How does your team look like? Are they significantly lower leveled or are you using the wrong moves?

Bruno, Chuck, Brawly and Maylene are all in a fight
wraith89 replied to Destati's topic in Generation 4
LOL. Bruno would probably own them all physically... but in a battle, you realize in the end Maylene's Pokemon will come out on top (thinking about Top Trainer Cafe lineup with levels 60 and over). I don't know Brawly's Emerald final lineup though. And Chuck... if only his Pokemon were higher leveled or had a bigger roster or even had his last name changed to Norris... -
I keep that thing a Chimchar until level 22 to learn Nasty Plot. But I never picked him as a starter so I don't know how it's like.

A few I forgot... Leafeon... Jumpluff and Tropius. Leafeon for being another cute eeveelution, Jumpluff for being an amazing subseeder (although Sceptile works better because it can do other stuff and is faster... but Jumpluff has Sleep Powder)... and Tropius for being a cool Mokele Mbembe based plant type... but he's still not great for competitive battles but works great as an HM slave. -
Yeah, but usually 95% accuracy is good enough. Even if it misses the first time, it'll usually hit the second time, and you survive with Focus Sash (unless there's bad weather or something). But even then, usually the first hit lands unless you were extremely unlucky.
-
It really won't matter MUCH (although I hate it during those times when I DO miss)... and Zoom lens works only if you're going last, and that's NOT good, especially for Butterfree. Wide Lens can work, but it's rarely worth an item slot. Something like Focus Sash would be better to support Butterfree's frailty.

explorers Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2: Mt. Bristle
wraith89 replied to wraith89's topic in Mystery Dungeon
I have a Squirtle and a Bulbasaur... but I don't know if you've encountered enough Starlies to know what I've been experiencing. Tackle doing 12 damage (roughly 25% of my health), Quick Attacking from a range of 2 dealing 14-16 damage... (max of 33% of HP!)... it's decisively difficult then. I beat it now though, so it's all right. Has anyone else experienced this? -
That's actually fine. I beat the league with only levels 51-54ish... without any legendaries or ubers. I mainly don't use ubers because they're too strong and that there is no awe factor... meaning you send out a Giratina... and that guy has a Bidoof... the guy should be staring in awe to see this Renegade Pokemon, but no... he just fights anyways.>_<
-
How do you pass this place? I really hate those OP Starlies with their ridiculously overpowered Quick Attacks! I mean, seriously? 12 damage per piece? This is only the beginning of the game! I was doing well until the 9th floor... when I was greeted by two Starlies. Do they have nothing better to do than to pick on poor travelers? I mean... yikes! It wouldn't be too much of a big deal if those cut scenes weren't too long...
-
Ah yes, I forgot about that. The other one is Pinsir, but he also has Hyper Cutter but the game normally says the Pokemon has Mold Breaker, so it would be wise to switch out. Good catch.

Oh great. I forgot Cherrim! I like Cherrim even if she isn't so great... but she makes an excellent pair with Groudon. Unfortunately, she's not too hard to kill. -
There are a few deterrents to Wonderguard. First thing is status and indirect damage... a Thunder Wave or Will-o-Wisp or Toxic still hits you. Sandstorms and Hail can also cause damage. Also, beware of Leech Seed, Spikes, and Stealth Rocks. Second factor would be certain direct damage. Other than Super effective attacks, there are two attacks that can still hit a Wonderguarder: Fire Fang and Beat Up. I have no clue why that is so, but not even Thunder Fang or Ice Fang can hit through Wonderguard. It's strange... but hey, at least Flareon gets some brownie points there for being a Wonder Guard deterrer to something not called Wondertomb Kabutops (I had the wonderful opportunity to fight one once... -__-) Perhaps maybe because those two moves are both effective on Shedinja that they forgot to program it to not work on other users of Wonderguard (not that that's supposed to be legal or anything...) Other things that hit are Future Sight and Doom Desire and even Bide. I don't know what else hits though. To me, Wonder Guard is a cool concept, but Shedinja just has too many weaknesses that it just doesn't work. If Wonder Guard added in the effects of Magic Guard, then Shedinja would be very usable... but... I guess Shedinja is only useful in Ubers... for being a Kyogre deterrent, but other than that...

What's Your Favorite Pokemon? Current Pokémon Type: Dragon
wraith89 replied to Greencat's topic in Generation 4
Ugh, this is a hard one... I like ALL Grass types! ... I guess my favorite would be a tie between Victreebel and Ludicolo and Roserade and Abomasnow... and the others are all tied as second, if I were to pick a favorite. -
How'd you get Latios in this game before the E4? I think this topic assumes you used a Pokemon you got through legal manners with a normal team which you can acquire. And Latios even without a Soul Dew is terrifying... so think about him with Soul Dew...
-
Except Fire Fang and Beat Up. Plus Foresight + Fighting attacks ruin it and exploit its only weakness then. But no one goes that overspecialized. Status can also ruin Wondertomb, but even then, Wondertomb is a very dangerous foe, especially when no one expects it. I think another dangerous hack Pokemon would be a Huge Power/Pure Power Slaking. Oh my... just imagine the horror of being swept by a surprisingly fast and very powerful sloth.

What do you expect from the next generation of games?
wraith89 replied to AtomicGreymon's topic in Generation 4
Big region games is asking too much though... just think about it. D/P was a pretty long game even with just ONE region, don't you think? If they let level caps above 100, maybe... but still, a person's creativity can only be so much, right? Not to mention that same Bastiodon can Metal Burst that Mew to pieces after surviving it Level 16 > Fire Stone in method of evolving. Pokemon species... they'll have to stay animal or mythological... or else they'll go through copyright issues (remember Kadabra and Alakazam? If you don't, some Israeli magician sued Nintendo for taking his design through Kadabra and Alakazam. Animal species are just fine.) Spy Kids 2... that watch does everything but tell time. LOL. That's a failed watch because it doesn't do what it's supposed to do I don't want my Poketch to not tell time, now do you?- 103 replies

Although a Fire Blast with Life Orb DOES OHKO Azelf sometimes... but even then... NOT worth using with Infernape. With those bulkier things like Arcanine (factoring Intimidate) or Ninetales it would be fine though. However, that doesn't mean the rest of your team is terrible. Have you stated your favorite starter yet?

I love my Butterfree. She took down a 252 HP/252 Def/6 Sp.Def Lugia and a Magmortar all in the same battle thanks to that Killer Sleep Powder of hers. But for standard, I'd stick with a Sporing Breloom or a Sporing Smeragle or something, although none of them are too fast. But killer rain glitch... ironically it does nothing to Rock/Ground/Steel types, even if it looks like it is supposed to.

So Platinum's rules overshadows D/P's. Interesting, I never knew games could "patch up" like that. I knew something was wrong when I only landed Hypnosis like twice in the game (although the opponent landed Hypnosis every single time, but that's my bad luck and it's besides the point). So were there any other effectual changes in the transition from D/P to Platinum?
-
Where did you read that? I wish I could test it out somehow but it makes me wonder why they reduced the accuracy in the first place. Were Yanmega and Gengar just working too well? Or was 70% a mistake in the first place? It's Gamefreak... that's what you'd typically expect anyways.
-
It's an eternal dillema... so I wonder if the game crashes or something. Never before had they changed a move in-between a generation before.

What do you expect from the next generation of games?
wraith89 replied to AtomicGreymon's topic in Generation 4
Three starters with different second typings would be more like it. How about a Grass/Fire, Fire/Water and Water/Grass? Ok that sounds really bizarre. A rival to Arceus... you mean a demonic llama? Yes, more type variations would be nice, but stuff like Rock/Steel or Fire/Rock or Bug/Flying needs to go (although I'm a bit iffy about the last one because many bugs are cool). What we need is Surskit with an alternate evolution or a completely new specimen altogether... a Bug/Water was cool but it evolved into an amazing (not statwise but aesthetically) but another boring Bug/Flying. Pokenano? ... aside from the name, the Poketech is just fine the way it is... they'll always develop this system and add more to it, I'm sure. Trade evolution thing bugged me, but once a method of evolution is set, it'll stay that way unfortunately for the ones that were already done, but for new species... they should stop with that. People tend to steal my Alakazam :-/ Detailed Pokedex... a little more would be fine, but not too overly complex. That's why those websites are there for. In-game dex is fine the way it is. RSE's Pokeballs are in... but GSC's balls function a bit differently... and just might be unneeded. But if they make a remake of GSC, just maybe... Trainer customization sounds nice, but I hope it isn't overly complicated. Plus when they do stuff like this, it's usually very limited. All previous regions? That's a big problem... and there won't be enough space and not enough quests to do before you reach level 100 and the game will be boring. One region is fine, unless you're talking Johto/Kanto because they're connected. But even then, did you see what they did to Kanto? They butchered it in GSC. It doesn't necessarily have to start out in Cynthia's region. Nah, being snuck on by trainers are cool... but they have no lives because they stand there all day and night. More HMs? The problem with that is HMs relegate the usage of HM slaves... which is annoying because some moves like Cut and Defog are not meant to be used in battles. The only decent HMs are Surf and Waterfall (Fly is good in-game but competitively... and Waterfall is no longer outclassed by Surf because Waterfall is physical now). They're not getting rid of HMs anytime soon, but more HMs become more problematic. Now more TMs is more like it Usable moves of four is good or else some Pokemon will have infinite type coverage with five moves or something. Now think about Mewtwo. If it had Shadow Ball and Aura Sphere and Calm Mind and Taunt... and its moveslot was increased to five, it no longer needs to decide whether to use Recover or Taunt anymore! Now you have something with unparalleled coverage and a Recovery move AND a move that screws up things that status you (this is for ubers battle mind you... don't expect to see Mewtwo in standard). Four moves keep things right for the most part... or else you'll see the metagame filled with, I don't know... Infernape or Zapdos (shudders at Reflect/Light Screen/Roost/Thunderbolt/HP Grass/Heat Wave/Drill Peck/Agility/Metal Sound/Baton Pass/Thunder Wave...)! It's boring to see the same Pokemon over and over, don't you agree? *stares at Garchomp* The EV cap of 510 is what gives the game more strategy... or else it will be a stallfest like GSC all over again. Then base stats have more emphasis on what makes a Pokemon better than the other so if that EV cap was removed, expect things like Infernape actually survive hits from Cresselia and stuff with higher base stats to be used more often. Once again, it's an issue of balance. *shudders at the SAME Zapdos listed above with max EVs* I never got the concept of Arceus. I go up to him in Spear Pillar... and unfittingly it goes "Dogyoouuuuuuuu!!!" or something like that. Can't it speak? Arceus is a false god! I named mine 'Blasphemy' Sorting bags? Agreed. That Wifi part is a little too much to ask, don't you think? The reason why GSC was incompatible with RSE was because the EV system and the IV system and nature system were completely revamped, and converting the old data into new would be much too hard. Voice commands sounds cool... but it doesn't always work as promised. A lot of mini games sounds nice. I'd love that.- 103 replies

Has anyone tried battling Diamond/Pearl users with Platinum? What will happen if you use Hypnosis in the battle? Will it be 70% accurate like it was in D/P or will it be 60% accurate as in Platinum?
