Overall, I don't see this whole "no counters" thing as anything. Sure, Machamp was impossible to have a true counter, but there was Slowbro and Spiritomb, and now the new Cofagrigus can deal with him too. I guess it's because they have obscure counters they get the boot? Idk. I know Machamp was never booted, but that's just an example. Same for Garchomp: Skill Link Cloyster worked pretty well as a counter, breaking through Yache and Icicle Spear scarily beating it... though it was 22.5 * 5 back in Gen IV (11.25 + 22.5*4 if you count Yache Berry). Reuniclus still has some counters like Spiritomb and such. I'm just wondering if it's just some fad. And remember Unaware Quaggy vs Blaziken? Yeah... fine HP Grass, but that loses out to Chandelure and more prominent threats, and + 2 HJK OHKOs Swampert and company.

I think it's all about prominence and whatnot. The counters are "obscure"... so I guess that's why they get the boot? And one problem: Slowbro is actually being used.

Overall, that was an objection to a post you made since you were mentioning the + 2 versions and making it sound like Blaziken can SD and SE at the same turn. Slowbro does counter the SD versions, MUCH better than most other Pokemon.

Might as well run Surf on most waters or put enough investment to OHKO some fires with Scald. I did that with Jellicent, but vs Chandelure w/SR support.

It's really ridiculous when Fires beat Waters easily. Like, I knew it'd happen one day but not like this <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sleep.png" alt="-_-" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sleep@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Oh, + 2 LO Flare Blitz vs 252 HP Conkeldurr: 132.9% - 156.5%

vs 252 HP/252 Def Conkeldurr: 104.3% - 122.7%

vs 252 HP/252 Def IMPISH Conkeldurr: 94.9% - 111.8%

No counter in that. Slowbro is. However, that's some HUGE recoil. Heh heh.

CB Adamant 252 Atk Conkeldurr Mach Punch vs Blaziken: 50.8% - 60.1%

With Iron Fist I'd imagine that's 20% of that increase, which would be like ~60% - 72%. Recoil might KO Blaze though <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/mellow.png" alt=":|" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/mellow@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thunderpunch > Shadow Claw. Thunderpunch is 150, Stone Edge is 100, Hi Jump Kick is 97.5 vs Slowbro. You won't see Tpunch though because HJK does more to most waters while Stone Edge nails Gyarados. Why no Psychic on Slowbro? There's like tons of fighters.

There's never 100% counters to anything AT ALL. Remember, speed boost Blaziken. Most are the stupid SD/Flare Blitz/HJK/Stone Edge, which is what everyone is saying "No Switch Ins" and whatever because at + 2 HJK OHKOs nearly anything w/SR. Ones with HP Elec will fall to Swampert and the likes... and that means Chandelure will have an easier time too, methinks, just to hit Slowbro? I'm just thinking that the standard Blaziken is definitely countered by Slowbro and where your post was like "there's no counters", I'm like, that doesn't sound right <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/mellow.png" alt=":|" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/mellow@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Conkeldurr? I doubt it OHKOs aside from EQ and gets 2HKOd by Flare Blitz in return. Azumarill on the other hand, I was thinking, can survive at least one move and OHKO back with Aqua Jet?

Wait. If Blaziken SDs while Slowbro switches in, can't Slowbro's Psychic/Surf destroy it while Blaziken Stone Edges? (just in case you are forgetting as usual, Blaziken CANNOT Swords Dance + attack at the same turn), and people don't generally switch a Slowbro in AFTER Blaziken SD'd, but WHILE Blaziken SD'd. Get what I'm saying? If it didn't SD, it's only taking half of what you listed, making it able to counter. Why didn't I think of this before? <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

However, I'm assuming that STAB Psychic or Surf will OHKO Blaziken. If there is no investment, will it? Which Slowbro is this.. 252 HP/252 Def Bold?

Unless Slowbro doesn't OHKO Blaziken, then this guy is a counter to SD versions.

Flying Pokemon?

I wrote a whole guide about Gen V Pokemon within in-game if you want to check out some flying Pokemon. The most common used one so far is Pidove/Tranquill/Unfezant, who is OKAY, but there's also Ducklett/Swanna, who can also work well, since it can Fly and Surf. In fact, I would recommend it if it weren't a pain to find in that bridge. There's Woobat/Swoobat... which evolves through happiness. It's okay, but not remarkable and poor statistically. The rare Sigilyph in the desert is pretty cool and arguably a better alternative to Swoobat. Archeops if you revive the fossil is AMAZING. Which version are you playing... Black or White? In Black you can get Vullaby and in White you can get Rufflet. The former is not worth your time while the latter can be great if you get him to level 54 (that is a LOOONNGGG way to go) If all else fails, use Reshiram/Zekrom after you beat the E4 (you can use it for only two battles from that point before the Hall of Fame thingamajic). There's not much else really. Unfortunately, if they don't get your interest, you have very little choice in terms of flying Pokemon, so I suggest you re-evaluate some of these Pokemon to see maybe they have something you like if you cannot force yourself to be interested.

Now did Blaziken just hijack this thread? Since the original topic went astray, I'll lock this for now. Tell me if there are any objections. Remember people, the tier system at the moment is a joke at worst and inconclusive at best. It's too early to decide. (Now that makes me wonder why Machamp isn't given much attention, as it pretty much survives ANYTHING and can KO anything it wants to, requiring a sacrifice... but there's enough fighters to go by methinks).

Problem with this is... Infernape made Blaziken look worse in Gen IV because of that one little thing: that speed. You already know how well Infernape breaks walls, despite the fact its attack power from both sides are "mediocre" at best. Now look at Blaziken's attack and special attack. They're HUGE. In Gen IV UU it was one of the most feared wallbreakers alongside Nidoking, but its main problem was it could get revenged easily due to that low speed. Choice it and you're locked to one attack. Now how to solve that problem? Add speed with Speed Boost! But um... wasn't that overkill? Pretty much. Remember when people were complaining about Blaziken lacking Close Combat? How about we give him a base 130 STAB move in the form of HI JUMP KICK (10 base power boost since last Gen... wow) and call it a day? Now name me anything that can switch into a + 2 (Swords Dance) Flare Blitz/Hi Jump Kick/Stone Edge (and don't say Unaware Quagsire). Yes, a + 2 Hi Jump Kick can OHKO-2HKO most bulky waters like Swampert or Suicune. That is quite scary. Not to mention you're not revenging this guy, not with Speed Boost. Well, you can pack Azumarill and all, but you don't have a counter. You're forced to sacrifice something. Gamefreak has their ways of "balancing things out" and they overdid this guy. Heh. Thankfully, Hi Jump Kick has a huge penalty and one Protect or a Ghost switch in can mess with Blaziken, BUT as usual, you have to be careful of the other moves, which is why there is no real counter to Speed Boost Blaziken. Alternatively, people can Baton Pass that whole SD/Speed Boosts to someone else in the team. Won't that be scary? Going back to what randomspot said, the whole tier thing would be quite subjective if we were doing it some other way. I mean, I'd like it in some other way, but we have no choice. It seems they have no other way but to use usage statistics to determine tierage. But I think we can all conclude April's statistics are inconclusive and we need to wait a few more months until things are more stable.

The flaw about Smogon's tier list making is that it's entirely based on usage. Right now, if you looked at the usage statistics, Kyurem ended up at 102. I believe the cut off line is much above that number, which is why Kyurem got put down to UU. Right now, the statistics list looks so unbelievably strange, it isn't even funny. Gimmicks are apparently used a lot more than regular Pokemon are supposed to (like Aron at 148... what the heck?), which is why it is quite questionable. I'd wait until the currents calm down and things become stabilised. Where did you hear this btw? | 102 | Kyurem | 7309 | 1.2196 | Also, there is the whole thing about "Ice can't be OU" subtle bias that's happening because "Ice is lol defensive type". As for Kyurem's actual performance, it isn't bad at all. It got underwhelmed by its two subordinates, but Ice + Dragon offensive combination works pretty well, as Dragon hits many things neutrally and Ice hits quite a bit of things super effectively. It has the tools to take down opposing Steels in the form of Focus Blast or some run Hidden Power Fire. It can bait in Scizor and strike it down with HP Fire by carrying a Babiri Berry. Glaciate works well for slowing foes down... though it is an underwhelming signature move. It is also a great wallbreaker due to it having the same Atk and SpA. I know... Kyurem going from OU to UU off a usage list looks bizarre, but if that's where they're going, that's where they're going >_> If Kyurem ends up "too strong for UU", it will end up in BL.

Mhh. I play blindly now, as if I was that same 10 year old child I was playing Pokemon back then, with no care about IVs/natures/EVs/etc. I was at that point where I was insanely obsessed with perfect IVs and EVs and the right nature and stuff... but I think that just saps away the fun. Pokemon became fun to me again once I stopped caring about those. Mind you, if I were to play competitively, I would try to score a 31 on at most two of the IVs... but that's about it. 31 everywhere to me is just rubbish and I don't think that's how the game was meant to be played... but I do that on simulators since that seems to be the standards there. Heh. Yellow was my first game too. What a coincidence! This was when I had a level 73 Dugtrio, a level 50ish Pikachu, and everyone else in their 20s Female Timid Eevee. Lemme guess... Espeon or Jolteon (probably the latter due to your apparent love for electric types).
