  1. READ THIS POST BEFORE YOU COMMENT "THE DRAG AND DROP DOESN'T WORK FOR ME" HOW TO UPDATE from Nova Sun & Umbra Moon v1.4 (or lower) to v1.5+: If you're updating the Drag & Drop pack of Nova Sun or Umbra Moon to v1.5+ from a previous version, you need to delete the old files. v1.5+ places the ROM hack files in a different SD card location, and no longer requires code.bin. Delete THESE files/folders from your SD card before copying v1.5+ to the SD Card. SD:\luma\titles\0004000000164800 SD:\luma\titles\0004000000175E00 SD:\luma\code_sections\0004000000164800.bin SD:\luma\code_sections\0004000000175E00.bin SD:\SaltySD\Nova_Sun SD:\SaltySD\Umbra_Moon You also NEED to update Luma3DS if you're on a version lower than 7.0. Drag & Drop packages of Nova Sun & Umbra Moon v1.5+ support (and require) Pokémon Sun & Moon v1.2. FAQ "HELP! The game freezes when I talk to a shopkeeper!" This happens when you have a version mismatch on the Shop.cro file If you're using a Drag & Drop install of the game, make sure Sun or Moon are updated to v1.2. If you're getting shop freezes while Sun or Moon are updated to v1.2, update the ROM hack by redownloading the Drag & Drop package and follow the instructions for updating from NS/UM v1.4- to v1.5+. If you're using a *.3ds or *.cia install, make sure Sun or Moon are not updated at all. Uninstall updates from "Data Management" on the 3DS. You can also apply the Drag and Drop package over the NS/UM CIA; if you do this, you can update Sun/Moon and continue to play NS/UM. "I want to randomize the game and still use the Drag & Drop pack!" PK3DS currently requires a complete ROM file system to be present to function. This means you need to follow these instructions to play a randomized game through Drag & Drop. Download the Drag & Drop pack of the Lite Build of NS/UM and copy the /luma/ folder to your SD card. Follow all instructions included with the Drag & Drop Download the Distribution Pack for NS/UM and follow the instructions as if you want to build a CIA of the Expanded Build. When you reach the part where you can randomize your wild encounters, say Yes and use PK3DS to randomize them. Once you've randomized your Wild Encounters, copy /Extracted_ROM/romfs/a/0/8/2 and /Extracted_ROM/romfs/a/0/8/3 to the /luma/titles/16DIGITTITLEID/romfs/a/0/8 folder on your SD card. If there is no "8" folder inside romfs/a/0, create one. Booting Sun or Moon should load Nova Sun or Umbra Moon with randomized wild encounters. "HELP! I want to use a cheat menu or NTR plugin, but (insert tool here) breaks with this mod!" It's not up to me to fix these sorts of tools. The reason these tools will sometimes break with Nova Sun / Umbra Moon is that they aren't capable of handling Luma3DS's LayeredFS implementation. If you want to complain to someone about incompatibility, complain to the developers of the cheat menu or plugin that their tool doesn't support Luma3DS LayeredFS. "HELP! I get a black screen when I click Sun/Moon when using the Drag & Drop pack!" Make sure you have properly removed any SaltySD-based hacks (including older builds of Nova Sun/Umbra Moon) from your 3DS SD card as detailed at the top of this post. Try deleting the files from SD:/luma/titles and re-copying them over to the SD. Plug your SD into your computer instead of using FTP or MicroSD Management for best results. Update your Luma3DS install to the latest stable version and make sure "Enable Game Patching" is enabled. It's possible Luma3DS's "hourly" builds could break something important for the LayeredFS feature. Make sure your 3DS firmware is on version 11.0 or greater (this is a requirement to run Pokémon Sun & Moon). Make sure you have the Sun/Moon v1.2 update installed. "HELP! I am having trouble building a CIA/*.3DS of this!" Because computers are different from user to user, I cannot provide personal troubleshooting for the Distribution Pack used to build *.cia/*.3ds files or HANS packs. If you're using custom firmware on your 3DS, I recommend using the Drag & Drop package if you're having any difficulties whatsoever with building a CIA. The files included in the Distribution Pack can be used to build a CIA or 3DS file with any method (romfs builder, Asia81's PackHack, the included 3dstoolkit by evandixon...). "WHICH BUILD HAS LEGENDARIES!?" This ROM hack does not add Legendary Pokémon to the wild. This is a design choice made for the following reasons: 3DS ROM hackers currently (and for the foreseeable future) can't alter the game script to add events, so adding Legendary Pokémon would just be sticking them in random grass patches as low-percentage encounters. That's ugly, feels hacky, and removes the reason Legendary Pokémon are cool in the first place. Nova Sun and Umbra Moon are not balanced around the player using 650+ BST monstrosities. If I added Legendary Pokémon to the grass, they'd turn the supposedly challenging game into a cakewalk. If I balanced the game *around* Legendary Pokémon, you'd basically be required to either use them or grind and overlevel your team. Hacked Legendary Pokémon cannot be converted to legitimate Pokémon by altering their data to make them "hatched from an egg". This means using Legendary Pokémon as a post-game reward is absolutely and completely pointless. And finally: I personally believe the game is more fun without them, and I want to present the most fun (in my opinion) way to play Pokémon in my ROM hacks.
  2. Project Pokémon OP GBATemp OP PokéCommunity OP Reddit /r/3dshacks OP ROM hack of: Sun and Moon (3DS) Pokémon Nova Sun and Umbra Moon are mods for Pokémon Sun and Moon. Like my Rutile Ruby and Star Sapphire hacks, their main purpose is to provide a more challenging game experience while not artificially limiting the player. The premier feature of Nova Sun and Umbra Moon is the ground-up redesign of Pokémon Trainers in the world to increase the game's challenge. Every trainer in the game has been edited, and the level curve expects use of the Experience Share, which means that the player levels up very quickly. Every Pokémon in Trainers' teams has a hold item and a proper moveset. The end-game of the main story features trainers with Levels in the mid-nineties. Nova Sun and Umbra Moon's secondary focus is inspired by Super Smash Bros. Melee's "20XX Hack Pack" which enables features for competitive players to practice and grind. In Nova Sun and Umbra Moon's Legit Build, everything obtainable is 100% legal and legitimate for real online battles or trades. In all Builds, some features are designed to make preparing competitive teams much less of a hassle. Competitive hold items are much more available, a 6IV Ditto is available through an in-game trade (holding a Destiny Knot), Eggs hatch in one cycle, and Level 100 Memento Blissey battles are available in the Battle Buffet once the main story has been beaten. (As discussed, link removed as it directs to page that host files from ROMs. Please upload files accepted by the forum, thanks )
  3. As bad as the AI is, the main reason the Elite Four was weak in RRSS was because the player had Level 100 Pokémon that had gained natural EVs, but the AI only had Lv100 no-EV Pokémon. Thanks to Sun and Moon allowing NPC trainers to have EVs and Natures, Single Battles should be a lot less broken in the endgame in NS/UM. Which is nice, since in NS/UM I am incapable of converting NPC trainers to alternate battle types. Every Double battle in Sun and Moon is the result of two Singles trainers "teaming up" on you.
  4. No. Game and Story text contain some changes like making Kukui's speech at the beginning explain the hack and changing dialogue like "My Cleffa is my best friend!" when the trainer doesn't have those pokemon anymore. That was honestly a bad idea in RR/SS (updating the trainers into the game kinda sucked, no way to verify, etc), so no, I won't be doing that. Adding people to the game would be on a very case-by-case basis if at all, and I don't plan to add more aside from myself, my beta testers and one special case. That said, I'm glad you enjoyed RR/SSS so much! In my opinion, the RR/SS project really helped me get a handle on rom hacking, even though RR/SS was clumsy in a lot of places (legendaries on trainer teams, some trainers without movesets, workflow for updating the game was absolutely terrible and i had to make every change to all six builds individually...) I think you're going to love NS/UM.
  5. Another update. I'm in the home stretch when it comes to the Umbra Moon and Nova Sun project. I consider the project to be 85% complete at this point. My progress in the different parts of the hack is as follows: Trainer/Totem Changes: 88% designed, 70% implemented, 60% beta tested Legit / Leveled Build Wild Encounters: 100% complete Expanded Build Wild Encounters: 100% designed and awaiting implementation Evolution Changes: 100% complete Poké Mart and Item changes: 100% complete Game/Story Text Changes: 90% complete Pokémon changes (adjusted move levels, wild hold items, etc.): 100% complete I estimate I'll only need 38 more hours of work to finish the project. My target release date is February 26, 2017, exactly one year after Sun and Moon were announced. If my estimates are correct, this project will have taken up 320 hours of work, and I am incredibly excited to finally share the fruits of my labor with you. Relative to Rutile Ruby and Star Sapphire, this release will be a lot more polished. Where RR/SS took some "shortcuts" like Pokémon without defined movesets (I.E. what Game Freak does with 99% of its Trainers), Nova Sun and Umbra Moon have every single Trainer Pokémon manually tuned with a full moveset and hold item. Please look forward to it!
  6. How do I link a YouTube video without it embedding? I want an embedded video for my installation tutorial but text links to Youtube for the "Let's Play" section. Look at what's going on in my OP on this thread right now.
  7. I took a probably-too-long break from work on Nova Sun and Umbra Moon because of five reasons: Getting settled in my new apartment Social events Getting my Smash tech skill back in shape for Genesis 4 Waiting on feedback from my testers The Binding of Isaac: Antibirth and Afterbirth+ I'm officially back to work on it. I'm shooting for a February launch. I promise it'll be worth the wait! My completion of various aspects of the hack are below: Legit/Leveled Build Wild Encounters: 77% Expanded Build Wild Encounters (Will probably take like 1/3rd the time as Legit/Leveled): 0% Trainers+Totems: 50% Pokémarts and Item changes: 100% Wild Hold Items: 100% Moveset Availability changes: 100% Game Text: 90% Evolution changes: 100% Installation batch file (much easier than doing everything manually to create CIA, 3DS, HANS, or other packs): 100% My testers are about halfway through the game, and as I make new content I am sending it their way for feedback. By my estimate, I'm 58% done with the hack. Since most of what remains now is Trainer edits and the Expanded Build's wild encounters, the remaining half should proceed faster than the first half. I won't release any form of incomplete build of my hacks. It's just not the sort of person I am. I want to release the product in as polished and bug-free a state as I can. I also don't want to post a thread for this project until there's a release available. Pre-release threads, in my experience, tend to turn the first three pages into absolute unreadable schlock 90% of the time. Please look forward to my release! (Oh god. There's no BBcode-based post editor on Project Pokémon anymore, just this damn WYSIWYG editor. It's going to be such a pain to maintain a thread on here and GBATemp now...)
  8. Either don't use traded pokemon or use PKhex to edit them to be "yours" so they don't get bonus EXP anymore.
  9. Huh, this must have been a pk3ds export bug. Thankfully, evolving it to Slowbro should fix the ability and make it legal again. Will probably have a fix up soon. You did something wrong in rebuilding the rruby.romfs file, or maybe you didn't put it on the SD card in the correct place. It belongs in SD:\hans alongside rruby.code.
  10. Unfortunately, that soft-reset stuff is a limitation of Hans. If you want to have the ability to soft-reset RR/SS for shinies/etc, install it as a cia (requires CFW 3DS). However, since the only stuff you'd ever soft-reset for are legendaries, you can just hunt them in legit OR/AS with soft-resetting intact. If (and only if) you're playing through Hans, you don't need to uninstall updates; Hans doesn't load updates at all. Get PKHeX here. Back up your game's save with SVDT or JKSM, edit the file with PKHeX. The "Met Level" statistic is in the "OT/Misc." tab of the Pokémon editor.
  11. To everyone freezing during the romfs extraction process: Check your hard drive space. The only time I've ever had romfs extractor freeze on me was when the drive I was extracting to was full. I can't post extracted romfs zips here, it's against the rules for Project Pokémon and GBATemp. If I could do that, I'd just post pre-built romfs packages instead of long installation instructions. Sorry, those are the rules for Project Pokémon and GBATemp.
  12. Braindump doesn't delete your save (or at least has never done so for me). To back up your current save, use the SVDT app to create a backup, copy the "main" file generated in the backup to a safe location on your PC (name it AlphaSapphire or something) and then restart your save. Once you beat Star Sapphire, you can keep your Star Sapphire pokemon by putting them in the Pokemon Bank or by copying them into your main save backup with PKHeX. Then just restore that main save backup and you'll be back to normal! Since I'm beginning school today (8/22/2016) and don't know how much free time I'll have to continue the Strategy Guide project, I have added a link to the current Strategy Guide to the OP. The guide is incomplete but has pretty much everything necessary for your enjoyment: Wild Pokémon Encounters and Recommended Levels for every area! 100% complete pages for areas up until Route 123 Detailed information about the game's changes from OR/AS Helpful tips for areas up until Route 123 I hope you enjoy it!
  13. That bug is noted in the OP. My choice was either allow the bug to exist or take out all the special Double, Triple, Rotation, and Horde battles. I chose the fun option, despite empty text bubbles being a little jarring.
  14. Unfortunately, Pokémon games can't have their title IDs edited. Try playing through Rutile Ruby instead, or back up your save file and delete it. If you really want two Sapphire installs, buy a cartridge of Alpha Sapphire, put your main save on that, and start over in your Star Sapphire cia. I just checked this on my own install, and this doesn't happen for me. I have no idea what's going on in your game. Those bugs are almost certainly caused by file corruption when you built the .cia, please try building it again from scratch. I just checked on my own Rutile Ruby 2.1 install and Charizard and that Bug Maniac work fine.
  15. Yep, that's how it works. Just have him use JKSM or SVDT to keep his old save before starting a Star Sapphire cartridge run. Make sure he deletes the save from inside the game and not through the save manager he's using. I'm glad you're enjoying the experience!
  16. HANS doesn't work online. Link me to a guide on how to do this from scratch (with the official 1.4 update cia) and i'll update my online patch CIA to be read as 1.5.
  17. Update 2.1 released! Fixes some bugs and nerfs Switch Mode. Online play now available for .cia installations, and instructions for building a .cia are in the OP again. Redownload the distribution pack if you want to build a .cia.
  18. Thanks a bunch. I'm currently 30 pages in, just finished up Wattson's page. The guide won't have any spoilers and is intended as a companion for the game. When I develop Nova Sun and Umbra Moon, I'll work on a strategy guide alongside the mod's release. Yes, the Elite Four get new teams. Other trainers don't change after the Delta Episode.
