Make sure the fateful encounter box is ticked, and the met level is at least according to Colosseum/XD. When in doubt, go with level 100.

Bayonetta 2. That and the first game are brutally hard for me. I'm too used to Pokemon and Super Smash Bros, so mashing buttons became a norm. The 2nd game was easier, but that's not saying much. It's more or less kinder than easy. Both though deserve repeated replays, especially with the unlockables, and having just learned about Rodin as a hidden boss in both games.
