Ah, I didn't realise that Trigger's PC would refer to the save file you specify when you add a save (and not make a copy of it or something). If it works this way, I guess I will just have a .sav file for each game on the computer and then update this one whenever I change anything. That works, so there's no need for a new feature. But just to explain what I meant before:

I transfer a save file from the GBA game to the computer. I load that save file into Trigger's PC, do something with it, then copy the updated file and move it back to the GBA game. Then, I play the GBA game and update the file by playing. And when I then move that updated file from the GBA game to the computer again, I thought I would then tell Trigger's PC, look, for this game I have added, forget the old save file on the computer and use this new one (with a different file name and/or in a different location), as it's the updated one and the other file is the old one.

Do you see what I mean? That's how I approached it initially. This way, I would keep the old save file as a backup and just redirect Triggger's PC to the new save file for a given game.

One thing you could do is make a save backups folder. Load the save in Triggers PC directly from your SD card and then make your changes/save. That way it saves directly to your SD card. The save is removed with the SD card so it's no longer on Triggers PC and then the backup is safe wherever you left it.

  2. That feature works! I didn't get any results. So I added every save I had on my PC or most of them anyway. I forgot a few. I found 5 results but one of them was my 5IV shiny Feebas egg. I found a shiny Omanyte in my Kanto Egg collection I bred for my living Pokedex projects. (Now I'm tempted to breed the entire dex for every project just to maximize shiny chances) I found 3 Pokemon Box eggs that were going to hatch shiny. I noticed for the second time though. They only seem to hatch shiny if the trainer ID and secret ID are all 0's. They hatched shiny on a Japanese event save that was shared with me.

I looked through all my current save files yesterday, and my highest-stat Pokémon – with an amazing IV spread of 30/31/10/31/9/31 – is a Farfetch'd. (-__- ) Out of all the Pokémon, this is the one with the best stats. Don't even remember what I bread that one for, probably to pass on False Swipe or something. Sigh. But whatever, it's male so I might be able to use it for breeding. And once I start to breed for the Battle Frontier (currently still busy hunting lots of Ditto), I might get a Pokémon with an even better IV spread that isn't Farfetch'd … ^^

It is always very exciting when you find other people that are still invested in Gen 3. :) And it's catching on. It's really cool to see how many people have picked up ribbon hunting for example. A few years ago, basically nobody had even heard of it. And most people are so very helpful. I got my first Liechi berry by sending someone my actual GBA game so they could trade it onto it, for example.

A project I was working on a few years ago and abandoned. Ralts with Synchronize, 2 of every nature . I still have a lot if you want them. I never got every nature but maybe a bunch of Ralts with synchronize and various natures might help somebody.

My best Pokemon is a 5 IV shiny Feebas egg given to my by somebody who will remain nameless.

Ribbon hunting. That pisses me off. While I have perfect Pokeblocks thanks to the above mentioned collector, getting the Battle Tower ones are enraging. I did it with my Suicune because it was designed to beat the Battle Tower and has (Decent enough) IV's. I was linked to a guide (Again, by that blasted collector) by some guy on the internet. He collected every Ribbon with a Delibird. I can't even get my Rocks Metang to last 7 fights to get a ribbon using a save state! (Would be so cool to have a Metang with all 80 Ribbons and Refresh). I messaged the Delibird guy and never got a response. I've pretty much given up at this point. While there's a lot of Pokemon I'd like to collect all the ribbons for, I'm calling BS until I see some proof that it can be done legit.

I managed to get all the gen 3 stuff for Suicune and started on gen 4. But doing all the different types of battle at the battle tower. Using 2 DS' and doing link battles and double battles, etc. Just sounds like a headache. Then importing it all the way to gen 6. I'm expected to believe some guy managed to get a streak of 49 and then switched out a team member for a Delibird? My gen 3 team limps along with a Metagross and Bellossom. Adding 3 more gens of Pokemon and a facility I'm told pretty much cheats to that? BULL$^$@! hahahhaha I'm done ranting now but seriously!

First, I'd say the more illegitimat part of Trigger's PC here is that it shows you the IVs, nature etc. of unhatched Pokémon. And nobody has an issue with this. The shiny factor is just a nice addition to this feature. And you still have to create and transfer all these eggs. And then hatch all of them if you want to get rid of them by releasing them.

And second, the idea behind Trigger's PC was to bring together people's many Gen 3 games into one place, right? For example, the reason why Trigger's PC doesn't reset the friendship value when trading a Pokémon is because, as has been discussed here, it feels wrong that a Pokémon would lose its friendship with you just because it is sent to a different (form of) you. Trigger's PC helps to unify a trainer's collection of games to add a bit of sense to the very hard life of Gen 3.

I bought a DSTWO card for about €30, I think. I got a micro SD card that I put in an SD adapter to transfer save files from the DSTWO card to the mac/computer and back again. The DSTWO card runs GBA Backup Tool just fine, I use it with my DS Lite. For GameCube saves, I have the SD Media Launcher, i.e. the thing that looks like a GC memory card and lets you put SD cards in it. I have GCMM on the SD card (it has to be a normal SD card for the SD Media Launcher … or at least one with not more than 4 GB … not sure about the exact restrictions but you can check online), which I can boot up after starting the GameCube with the Action Replay disc that Launcher came with. GCMM lets you backup GC save files (including Japanese ones) just as GBA Backup Tool lets you backup GBA save files. That's all, I think.

I didn't even think of the showing IV's thing as illegitimate. I used the tool to search my highest IV Pokemon. I've never been a stats person though. I looked at my highest stat Pokemon and thought pretty much. "Cool. I have some Pokemon with really good stats. And most of them were caught by me........ This info is completely worthless to me."

On the topic of hatching eggs. I was reading the changelogs before I updated the other day and saw that you could no longer move Pokemon eggs to Colosseum. (Which to me is a damn shame!) I have a few Pokemon Box eggs that are shiny but they're generated to hatch shiny on Pokemon Box, which is impossible. Oh, how the games love to troll us. When I moved them to Colosseum, they were forced to hatch but their ID and secret ID were 0. Their OT was AZUSA, which they all seem to be generated with. I couldn't change their OT's and ID's and keep the same personality value and shinyness which sucked.

I forgot to mention the GameCube Mod Manager and that amazing tool, the SD Media Launcher. My friend and I used to trade Pokemon in 2013 by trading them to my Colosseum save, backing it up and sending it to eachother. We lamented the 3rd gen community and talked about how awesome it would be to find other people like us and have a small community. hahahaahah

Another tool for backing up GBA Saves (But it's terrible) Is the Advanced Game Port. It's a GameCube tool that acts like an Action Replay and a GameBoy Player but doesn't do either well. It makes save states of GBA files as a .gci file. I lost my original Leaf Green file from 2006 to these things. Unless it could be miraculously recovered. If you ever look into one of these, use extreme caution. I've found that you have to save twice to get a save state to save. (For ex. Restore a save state, save. Walk a few paces. Save again. Soft reset to make sure it stuck.) I stupidly did this on the title screen for my Leaf Green. It shows the little "Previously on your adventure" before loading the current save state. Whoops.

Oh wow, so much has happened already again! Love that this thread's so active.

Glad to read that HaxAras is also for the Secret Bases. :) I have various teams with 6 Pokémon that give 3 EVs in a stat (it's a lot of fun collecting these, actually) and am working on various teams with several Latios (with nothing but Memento) and various Mewtwo (with nothing but Self-destruct) – the issue for me is having to play through Pokémon xD again and again to get the tutor to teach Self-Destruct to Mewtwo –, and the whole Secret Base thing is a lot of fun to do for me, so the more attention they get in the Gen 3 community, the better. :D

Re shiny egg checker: I have to say, out of all the "legit but also kinda not" features of Trigger's PC, this is the one I am the least worried about. I have about 16 active save files for 14 actual cartridges, and as HaxAras said, it would be a pity to miss out on a shiny just because you hatched in in the wrong game. The odds are still incredibly low (unless you create and add thousands of save files just for this feature …*and then if you go that far you might as well cheat for a shiny in other ways), so I don't mind this feature at all. In fact, I think it's pretty cool. :)

I never thought to do that with secret bases.

My Ruby got stolen and my Emerald broke. In 2008 I went and bought Ruby and Emerald from GameStop. I used to alternate re-starting them and would always make sure to save my secret bases. My Sapphire got stolen as well. I got that back a couple years later and now it has my 100% save file. Honestly, now that I type it out. It's crazy just how long I've had some of my cartridges and all the save files I've made on them over the years. So many countless memories with gen 3. <3

The shiny egg feature would been nice for me a little sooner. I just bred over 300 eggs for my Fire Red 100% project. I made a backup of the Kanto eggs I bred for my other living dexes. Since I'm making living dexes in every language, I thought I'd get the eggs once and just hatch them in various languages. It would be really helpful to know if they'll hatch shiny on one of the many save files I'll be making since I intend to make a save file for every game in every language before I finish buying all the carts.

  6. trigger_death said:
    That does seem troublesome.

By the way. What tool do you use to transfer and backup your cartridges? I'd love to get my shiny Ekans from my physical FireRed save over to my current saves. What's the price range on it?

I spent 20$ on some 3DS R4 I was linked to online and then had to spend another 20$ on a new SD card. I downloaded some GBA Backup tool to backup and restore saves.

  7. trigger_death said:
Funny thing is I was this close to removing the hatching save and making a new one since I wanted one with an ID ending in 1 or 6 so I could get daily Wiki berries.

One thing I've been contemplating. I don't know if I want to back up all my saves from my carts so I can use them on the tool or if I want to deal with trying to remember if the tool or my cart has the updated saved on it.

For ex. I currently I have my Spanish Ruby save on the tool buy my French Ruby and Japanese Emerald are currently on my carts.

Welp... I just hatched a shiny Charmander with the help of a new feature I've finished for Trigger's PC. Now I'm not sure whether people will dislike this or not but similar to the Mirage Island Checker I've created an Egg Shininess Checker. It goes through every Pokemon Egg and sees if it would be shiny if you hatched it in any of your games and then it gives you the results.

What are people's opinions on this? Because I agree it does feel pretty off but technically it's nothing you can't already do with the information Trigger's PC gives you. (Although I'd never expect anyone to calculate shininess for a mass amount of eggs)

That would be amazing. I'd hate to miss out on a shiny because I hatched it on the wrong save.

What would you guys think of the ability to create a *readonly* save to share? I know a lot of you have a very private collection and It seems like it may be nice if you can still make your collection viewable without risking people taking anything from it. Of course, if people really wanted to take the Pokemon and knew how to program in C# they could decompile Trigger's PC (or take the source code if I ever publish it) and write code to export the Pokemon. Is that a deal-breaker?

Alternatively I could store the Pokemon in an incomplete format where only the basic information is present. But then you may lose some of the niceties of viewing the Pokemon's info. Let me ask, what are you most concerned of people learning about your Pokemon? Are you worried they could completely duplicate it making it not unique? Or just having information on it so they could make their own version? I can easily hide the Pokemon's personality or any other specific stat if that's the primary worry.

I've been wondering the point as well. Is it just a way to show off? I've released older versions of my private collections to a few people in the past. But I've since gained new shinnies and re-made my living dex, etc. I have some Japanese event Pokemon I was asked not to share. Some of my Pokemon are clones, some are already public, etc. I haven't really had a desire to release my collection publicly again though.

I created a poll to decide if the new distributeable Regi Dolls I included should be all 3 or only 1 per game.

    Check it out here.

I vote to distribute all 3. I have the actual E-reader card and it allows you to send all 3. I think it might even allow you to do it more than once.

One small issue I found with the events feature. I added a copy of my Spanish Ruby save to the tool so I could add the events and upload it elsewhere. I'd already activated the events on my save already in the tool so it claimed they'd already been used on the copy.

(The only difference between the 2 saves is one has my living Pokedex and the copy doesn't.)

  11. decymin said:
The only thing I am a bit worried about at the moment is the event distribution. I think it goes against this idea of keeping everything as legit as possible. Legit Gen 3 events are super rare nowadays,

It depends which events you're talking about Anything common that everyday people can get.

English and Japanese Colosseum Celebi and Pikachu, Wishmaker Jirachi, Channel Jirachi, Pokemon Box eggs, etc, etc. I've already uploaded or found online in saves and shared them for everybody to get. The only really rare event Pokemon I have in gen 3 are some Japanese events I was asked not to share by the person who helped me get them and a Teeter Dance Pichu that I don't even know if it's real. I've also shared a bunch of PCNY Pokemon.

I've shared a save file with the Regi dolls scanned in and a Pokemon Ruby save with the entire PC filled with shiny berry-fix Zigzagoon. So if you're worried about legitimacy, most things Triggers PC might offer, I could help you get otherwise. Attaching un-obtainable ribbons to Pokemon just makes them ill-legit. I'd hate for my False Swipe Altaria to be stuck in gen 3, they're so amazing for catching wild Pokemon when you teach them sing.

  12. trigger_death said:
Just one last thing... Because I'm having a hard time trying to reproduce the bug. Are you checking to make sure the item isn't stacking with a pre-existing stack?

Just make sure not to use it with event Pokemon with special moves.

Do any of those exist in gen 3 anyway? All/most of my event Pokemon are cloned anyway so I don't really have to worry. They just sit in my PC, they're pretty much just a personal trophy collection.

  13. trigger_death said:
Hey HaxAras. What would you think of a Level-Down feature. The soul purpose of this would be to have the ability to use a Pokemon through a playthrough at a normally unobtainable level.

How it would work: Level a Pokemon down to level 5 and clear all of its learned moves and replace them with moves it would know at that level. The only Pokemon this would need to apply to would be legendaries, magnemite, and voltorb.

Would you think there would be any legitamacy issues with this or that people would even use it?

I'd like a level down feature to just set Pokemon to their default levels. I like keeping event Pokemon untouched or at least cloning them before I use them.

-- I don't know how there were so many replies to this thread. I never got emailed until now.

  14. Wow very nice!

I dont take a look inside the eggs, i dont use TrigsPC

I farmed them with your Shiny Zigzagoon save :)

    EDIT 07/06:

i see only a zigzagoon and swablu....

should i download the Eggs from Japanese Box or are all the same?

I can not get them to hatch on that Zigzagoon save or any other. Maybe they're generated to be shiny in Pokemon Box, where they can't hatch?

Pichu is in the same box, top row. It's just such a terrible shiny, you can hardly tell.

It doesn't matter. You can just trade the eggs to a Japanese cart and they'll hatch Japanese. Or any other language for that matter. (I've only tested Japanese, I migrated a few to gen 6 for trading a while back.)

In gen 6, it works differently though. If you trade a foreign egg to your game, it will hatch in the language it was generated it. It's the only way to get legit Japanese Pokemon with 6-7 letter OT's.(As far as I know)

I don't remember if this started in gen 5 or 6 though.

I hate to dissapoint but mirage island just has a caught location as route 130. Wynaut's the only Pokemon with that location that's rare. :(

That sucks really hard. I guess I can at least catch a few Wynaut and a shiny there someday.

Edit: (Hopefully, I still never even spotted Munchlax in PMD: Red Rescue team after probably 1,000 hours.)

  16. trigger_death said:
Every valid game. When you find results a list window will pop up that lists every game with Mirage Island Pokemon results. If you click on the game and select See Results a search results window will pop up to the side exactly how it does when using the search feature.

That is truly amazing. I've always refused to set foot on Mirgae Island using warp codes. So despite several thousand hours into gen 3 Pokemon, I've never been there. I'd love to hatch some Pokemon eggs there and hunt a shiny. (I love getting Pokemon in gen 3 with unique or rare met locations)

  17. trigger_death said:
    1) I probably won't implement mass ball switching anytime soon. Sorry. :(

    2) Summary Mode isn't supposed to be used when trying to interact with Pokemon like that. Turn off summary mode when you're trying to only view a specific Pokemon's info so that you can change things.

    3) That's already a feature. Just goto Settings > Pokebox Rows > Duplicate Rows. ;)

No worries. It's just a thought. I'd never expect all my idea's or even half to be implemented.

So that's what the T toggle is? Honestly, I find it hard to keep up with all the changes. I read the changelong and remembered reading you could press T to toggle something but forgot what it was.

I had no idea what that was. Seriously, thank you so much.

I have a question about the Mirage Island function. Does it scan every game saved in the tool or does it only scan the ones currently in rows?

  18. trigger_death said:
Looks like that issue is already fixed? Check your About Page and see if you're using 1.2.6.0. It's fixed in that version and most likely 1.2.5.2. That... or I somehow fixed this inbetween the upcoming release and didn't jot it down on my changelog text file.

Yeah, sorry. That's my fault. I always forget to update until somebody mentions the new update in the thread. At any given time, I'm likely using an outdated version.

You implemented moving multiple Pokemon at a time by holding control and clicking. Do you think it would ever be possible to multi click to change Pokeballs all at once as well? It would help when you catch a load of Pokemon in the safari zone and want them all in Pokeballs.

Edit: Found a problem with the hover-to view stats feature. When hovering over the Pokemon in my Fire Red party, I click on my Alakazam and then move my mouse over to the "Give effort value ribbon" option and it views the stats of every Pokemon I hover over. The only way I found to do it, was to move my Fire Red save to the very bottom of the PC and making sure Alakazam was the last Pokemon I hovered over. Edit: I just found a way around it. I right clicked on Altaria and then moved my cursor over to the stats window and applied the ribbon. (Y)

I posted about it before. When you select a game for the top row and it's then removed as an option for the lower rows. Please, for the love of Arceus. Would you ever consider implementing a toggle for that? It's been driving my crazy. I'm always worried about selecting something for the top row, knowing I'll have to restart the program while I'm still using it.

Thank you! Yeah that would be very interesting indeed. Why are these kind of special distributions so rare!? I've recently seen so many DS event Pokémon distribution cartridges on ebay that avoided destruction because someone decided to keep them instead of returning them to Nintendo... but obviously nothing concerning the forgotten but awesome GBA games :(

Yes, via dissassembly. But it's off-topic.

As far as I know Bond knows the Shiny Zigzagoon algorithm.

While the Jirachi algorithms for both Channel and Wishmkr were analyzed as well.

Not sure about the Celebi, but at least Nigoli downloded 111 of them from the disc.

We could open another Thread for things like that.

I'm interested in these things as well.

I uploaded a save with 420 Berry Fix Zigzagoon to the forums. I wanted to post a thread but I didn't know where to post it or how to title it.

When Suloku's tool is out/if-when somebody makes a research thread. I'll go through the trouble and dump my English and Japanese Colosseum bonus disks and my Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disk V.16. I'll send it to somebody reputable who is interested in doing the research and allow them to decide weather or not to share it with people.

If everybody would stop going off-topic, that would be great.
