  1. Lately, just for fun, I've been messing around with some Gen 5 roms and using PokeGen to do things in them that I wouldn't do in my actual cart games (like take Articuno through Opelucid Gym, being super overlevelled for the Elite Four, N, and Ghetsis, and other crazy stuff like that). However the thought occurred to me that PokeGen could potentially help with one of those annoying factors in Pokémon: determining what Wurmple evolves into. Since it's reliant on PIDs, you normally never know until it evolves, but since PokeGen can show you the PIDs, maybe now some influence can be brought into the picture. As you see by my attachment, I have two Wurmples here. The first one (female with Modest) I want to evolve into Silcoon, the second one (male, nature probably to be changed later) into Cascoon. While their PIDs are visible, I haven't a damn clue what to actually do with them, or how to understand them enough to know if they'll evolve into what I want or if I have to change their PIDs to invoke the evolutions I want. The second question is one that I think I can already guess the answer to, but I'll ask anyway just to be absolutely sure. As I've been messing around with stuff in PokeGen, I've always made it a habit to blank out the PID field so the game can reset it to match whatever changes I've made.....but most of the time, the only changes I've made are to nature and IVs, and it sounds like those are not involved in any of the PID data in Gen 5 (and beyond). Do I actually have to change the PIDs if I'm making simple edits like that, or just leave them alone unless I'm making a major change like Shininess?
  2. Hey, I'm learning all sorts of things between trying to figure out these two methods, so it hasn't gone to waste. Preliminary testing on my DS Lite looks promising. I might actually be able to finish this project today. EDIT: Well, I was able to get my games online to get Friend Codes for them, but I get Error 91010 (communication error) when I actually try to get into the WFC itself. Now I had to look up what this error was and.....I don't know if it's my router or something weird with my Friend Codes (which could be possible, since I friend'd my retail Black and White games with the C-Gear before getting their Friend Codes) EDIT2: ...well the friend code thing helped, but it still hasn't cleared the Error 91010 problem entirely (I was at least able to get into the WFC, but got booted after a little bit). Any thoughts what I can do to stabilize that? EDIT Pt 3: SUCCESS!!! Apparently the last time it error'd may have just been me not knowing how to use the darn thing.
  3. Huh, someone beat me to it. ...and surprising I never was able to find those before. I tried looking pretty hard for those codes...
  4. Yes, it really IS possible, but there's more to this than just AR Codes. Still, if you're missing the good old days, here's something that can help. Here are the codes I've found for Gen 5 (all are English versions): Black (IRBO) 520882D4 EE070F90 E2004720 0000007A CA02A20D 58CC4B0B D105429C 785C185B 3301701C D1FA4224 00A45E14 3202D005 D3EF1909 881403A1 4778E7F9 EE070F90 E8BD801E 2F2F3A73 D2EAE905 000A002C 00A70009 D2ED004D 000DA171 00190011 001A001A 001A001A 001B001B 00050505 23E72F3C 00130016 01BE0016 00120015 00140013 001D0012 00000000 00000000 020882D4 E92D401E 020882D8 FAFDF110 D2000000 00000000 White (IRAO) 520882EC EE070F90 E2004354 0000007A CA02A20D 58CC4B0B D105429C 785C185B 3301701C D1FA4224 00A45E14 3202D005 D3EF1909 881403A1 4778E7F9 EE070F90 E8BD801E 2F2F3A73 D2EAE925 000A002C 00A70009 D2ED004D 000DA191 00190011 001A001A 001A001A 001B001B 00050505 23E72F3C 00130016 01BE0016 00120015 00140013 001D0012 00000000 00000000 020882EC E92D401E 020882F0 FAFDF017 D2000000 00000000 Black 2 (IREO) 5207C7EC EE070F90 E20044FC 0000007C CA02A20D 58CC4B0B D105429C 785C185B 3301701C D1FA4224 00A45E14 3202D005 D3EF1909 881403A1 4778E7F9 EE070F90 E8BD801E 2F2F3A73 D2E92099 000A002C 00A70009 D2EB004D 000D8DCD 00190011 001A0019 001A001A 001B001A 052A001B 4AAF0005 00160164 00160013 001501BE 00130012 00120014 0000001D 00000000 0207C7EC E92D401E 0207C7F0 FAFE1F41 D2000000 00000000 White 2 (IRDO) 5207C818 EE070F90 E200477C 0000007C CA02A20D 58CC4B0B D105429C 785C185B 3301701C D1FA4224 00A45E14 3202D005 D3EF1909 881403A1 4778E7F9 EE070F90 E8BD801E 2F2F3A73 D2E920D9 000A002C 00A70009 D2EB004D 000D8E0D 00190011 001A0019 001A001A 001B001A 052A001B 4AAF0005 00160164 00160013 001501BE 00130012 00120014 0000001D 00000000 0207C818 E92D401E 0207C81C FAFE1FD6 D2000000 00000000 What these codes do is bypass one of the DS's security checks for connecting to the old WFC servers, allowing access to the AltWFC server (and thus, things like the GTS still live on). It's not the only thing you have to do, but it's a necessary step. Also these codes are meant for cartridges only! Emulators (or at least DeSmuMe) lock up when you try to use these codes, so you can't use them on roms (there are other methods for getting them online). Now if anyone would be nice enough to find or create the codes for other regions, or for the old Gen 4 games, maybe we can collect them in this thread as a handy reference for anyone who wishes to get their old games online again for battling or trading purposes.
  5. I took a look at that hex list. There's definitely some discrepancies between the actual list and editor (for example, changing one of the ribbon hexes actually makes the editor unable to do anything with Pokémon data, among some other small errors). I'll play with the router a little later. I'm a little busy with some other things, but hopefully all I have to do is point the DS in the right direction and I'll get somewhere. Also there was a very small bit of slowdown between running the non-patched rom on the regular emulator compared to running it on the wifi one. After patching, it got a lot more noticeable (although it eases a bit on the normal emulator). And one last thing. I was nice enough to post the AR Codes for AltWFC access for the Gen 5 games. I had to generate the B/W ones myself, but I was lucky to stumble across the ones for B2/W2 trying to...well, save myself some trouble on the former two (not that I wanted them handed to me on a platter, but I would have preferred something I could at least verify worked before trying it myself, but I guess I'll just have to go for it). At the very least it might save someone else some trouble in the future.
  6. Well there's an awful lot of slowdown now (the scary thing is the game slows WAY down while saving). Not sure what could be causing that. Also I'm still puzzled by how to get my DSs online. I've got a router (kinda old, but still working), it's connected to the internet (my modem has multiple LAN ports, so I can have the router on one port and my comp on another, which is ideal since I'd want to have the router put away once I'm done), and heck, I even hooked it up to the computer and reconfigured it, but when I tried to connect my DS Lite (without the AR codes, I'm just doing a test to make sure the connection works period), I get 52000-type Error Codes saying it couldn't get an IP address and couldn't connect (but when I search for an access point, it finds the router just fine, and I had the DNS set properly). Also during a connection test, I get 3 bars displayed for the connection, then partway through it drops straight to 0. When I was playing around with getting the emulator online, I was getting 20100-type errors (connected, but unable to access since I was missing the patching).
  7. Well after patching the rom (and a little fiddling around so that the patched rom used the save file I had before), everything seems to be running fine on the emulator.....just very slow at times. Any thoughts on what might fix that?
  8. It's just a matter of what I'm able to fix first. Still, seems like there's a lot of useful things around here that just need a little updating (or retrofitting, if they wanted to make PKHex compatible with previous gens) and they'd be awesome resources.
  9. Well I still potentially might have some messing around to do in trying to get the DS itself online (I need to check this router I'm going to need for the WEP connection because I had some issues in testing it the other day). The emulator seems to be running fine now that I have all the parts, all I need to do is patch the rom (unfortunately it seems like DeSmuMe itself HATES the WfcReplay AR codes, so I can't use the rom to test them like I had hoped). Hopefully once I get the bugs ironed out I can actually trade this thing to myself. Still, I'm learning useful information here with this project.
  10. Ah, okay. I wasn't sure how to read the addresses. So 0x37 would be in row 30 and column 7....simple enough once I have that bit of info. The only remaining problem is....well, I'll use what I have so far to show you. When I run that .pgf file through PokeGen, there are a couple of things that just don't seem to be appearing properly. First off, the level met is showing up as 0 even though I have it set to be the same as the level the Pokémon will be. Secondly, no matter what I do on the editor, it seems to always set the country of origin to the game, rather than the preset one I want it to be. I also don't want it to have any ribbons and I have no idea how to tell it to not do that (it always seems to want to give random ones). The pkm file is basically what I want the finished product to look like (or if I can ever figure out how to get my DS to connect to altwfc, I could just send it over from the rom I use to test these things...also need to get the rom to be able to connect to it, but at least I got the emulator to finally get online, so that's a start). EDIT: Ah, found a bit of crossed wiring in the Card editor. Looks like when I try to set the level met, it changes the hex that marks ribbons instead. Still haven't figured out how to set the region of origin on this, though...
  11. Well, I'm pretty stumped at this point. What started out as a rather fun little project....has really turned quite frustrating as I've tried to see it through. It all started here, with me creating one of my RP characters' Pokémon in a PKM file with PokeGen. Pretty easy stuff. And with PokéGen I was able to insert it into a Black rom that I used for testing purposes (trying things, usually AR Codes, to make sure it worked before attempting it on a retail cart). However this is where I slammed head-first into the brick wall. What I wanted to do was get this magic Ditto to my retail games as a self-created gift (that also could be used for the Masuda Method and possibly unlocking Unity Tower), but without using an AR to just brute-force it into some slot in my PC or party. I wanted to do it in a way that would be relatively safe (either somehow being able to connect for a trade, fake GTS or otherwise, or perhaps making my own Mystery Gift). As you can see later on in that thread, the trade project did not go well at all. So the next trick was to make my own Mystery Gift.....which PokeGen doesn't do (and from what I've read, it used to), so I found a program that could do that.....only to find out its Gen 5 support is pretty much incomplete and I can't set some of the details I wanted to (have to manually hex edit Shiny, which I don't know how to do, changing country of origin apparently doesn't work at all according to PokeGen) plus some other odd glitches that probably would have resulted in a bad AR Code if I tried to make one. Meanwhile PKHex is Gen 6 only, absolutely NO Gen 5 support beyond transfer purposes (even then, I don't know what kind of Wonder Card support it has). So I am totally stumped at this point. Does anyone possibly know a way around one of these roadblocks? Or maybe a better alternative to something?
  12. Well I wouldn't mind either seeing a newer version, or for PKHex to be retrofitted with Gen 4 and 5 support. If nothing else, I wouldn't mind for full Wonder Card editing to be a thing again. I've got this nice little thing I want to do as a personal project in Gen 5, but it's starting to look like I'm going to need a mix of that and AR Code generation to pull it off on my retail carts.
  13. ...is that how to tell it to make something Shiny? There's probably some other flags that need to be checked that aren't visible either (my intention was to take the Pokémon I created here and somehow make a Wonder Card out of it, then maybe be able to come up with an AR Code that would be able to give me said Card on a retail cart.....since just about any other method of trying isn't working so far). The fact that you can't tell what attacks, Ball, or locations you're setting isn't too helpful either. EDIT: And after trying to mess around with things myself, there are details that the Mystery Gift Editor won't lock into place no matter what I do (region of origin, because I want to make a Masuda Method-ready 'mon, still have no clue where the hex is to change to Shiny, and there seems to be issues with setting levels as well). Definitely not working how I hoped it would...
  14. I kinda wish someone would pick this project back up. As someone who's come particularly late to the custom gift 'mon party, this program is almost just the thing I needed. Unfortunately the problems come from incomplete Gen 5 support and the fact that you can't select if you want the Pokémon to be Shiny (it seems like when that was a feature, it was a Gen 4 only program).
  15. Well I've tried to put some things into effect, but I have run into one little snag so far coming from the emulator. I've got the bios, firmware, and even the wifi settings files, put them in the proper folders, and enabled the emulator to use the former (though the bios actually were rom files, but it didn't seem to matter to the emulator). However when I go into Wifi settings, Infrastructure is completely grayed out and won't let me select it (so the only option is Ad Hoc, which isn't getting me anywhere). I wish this was a lot easier. Would have been nice if PokeGen had some kind of make-your-own-Wonder-Card setting or something... (....And after trying to do some digging, it seems that it once DID have that ability, but it got removed for some reason...) EDIT: And after trying WfcReplay on the rom (I test anything I'm not sure of on that before I try it on my carts), the code it generated made the game totally lock up, so that ain't gonna work either. 2ndEDIT: ...Well, one minor stroke of success. Needed to download that one other program to finally enable Infrastructure Mode on the emulator. That gets me somewhat closer. Managed to get it online, but now I need to make sure I get a working AR Code for my retail carts (since the one wfcreplay gave me made the rom crash, which means I can't trust it on the cart). I'm sure someone's made a list of those codes somewhere, but I haven't found it yet... (I doubt it's a unique code for every rom and cart)
  16. Well that's kind of what I was hoping to do (somehow rig up a trade between the rom and the actual games, whether through a fake GTS or otherwise if at all possible). Just not sure how to pull that off. At least it sounds like it's possible, just complicated.
  17. Okay, I've been kinda sidetracked by other projects and things, plus the fact that my Black rom that I used for testing purposes was only at Accumula Town (so I had to go and get to Striaton and get a badge), but now I'm wondering. Just how the heck do I get the emulator (and I do have DeSmuME for this) to get online to access AltWFC (or whatever other method I might try for this)? Is there a certain version that has online connectivity, or is it just something in the settings I haven't figured out yet? If I can get that to work, then I might be on my way to getting this whole thing sorted out.
  18. Well I've used an AR before to give myself the Mystery Gifts for things before (the items needed to get access to Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus in D/P/Pt; Mew, Celebi, and the Shiny Legendary Beasts in HG/SS; Victini's Liberty Ticket, Meloetta, Keldeo, and Genesect in B/W), though those were pre-existing events that someone mined the data out of and had already processed them into AR codes (though I did have to splice the Genesect code together myself due to PokéGen's supposedly having shaky B2/W2 support). Never tried to make one from scratch before. ...also after doing a little research into GTS spoofs, ran across something called IR-GTS. Anyone familiar with that program and if it might work (or is it just kinda obsolete junk since the project seems to have been abandoned)?
  19. Well, I didn't want to do it as a direct edit (just making it appear in my party/box). I didn't want to accidentally overwrite something in my party or box or make the game glitch up if I didn't do everything exactly right. I figured it'd be safer to introduce it via either a trade (which is really hard to do at this point) or as a gift mon (though I don't know how to make my own Wonder Card to do that). Then I have some control over the situation.
  20. Well, I didn't want to brute-force AR it. I figured my options were probably either make a fake Mystery Gift (though I dunno how to do that) and use the AR that way or somehow find a way to make a dummy wireless connection between my emulator/comp and my DS (whether faking the normal wireless or somehow faking the GTS, which I think is possible) so I can trade it over from my rom.
  21. Okay, so it does register as a foreign Pokémon. Good. Now the last thing I need to figure out is how to get this on my actual Gen 5 carts (any suggestions not involving using an AR to just jam it into my party or PC?)
  22. Okay, well it would have been nice if there was something that pointed that out. Noted and changed (on my end). That just leaves me with how to get it on my actual carts (thankfully I have a Black ROM to use as a testing zone, so I can make sure I can get everything right before trying it for real). Also seems I made it well enough to be stable. No glitches that I can tell from trying to use it in battle or storing it in the PC. Now I'm just wondering if it actually counts as a foreign Pokémon (for the aforementioned Masuda Method).
  23. Yes, some of us still mess around with that. I was a little bored and got to messing around with PokéGen, trying to create a rather crazy Pokémon one of my RP characters has. I kinda went crazy with it, but I don't know if I actually successfully created it (since I'm trying to find a way I can put it on a legit Gen 5 cartridge, preferably without some insane AR code that might break the game if I don't do it right). Here's the basics of what it should be: Species: Ditto Name: メタモン (Metamon) Level: 50 Ability: Impostor (there's no easy way to tell Pokégen to give it a Hidden Ability, so I just hoped for the best on this) Status: Shiny, no Pokérus Country: Japan OT: マリアンヌ (Marianne) Trainer ID: 25154 (there's a slight significance to that) Stats: All 31 IVs, No EVs Met: Faraway Land ...Now I may have set some other things (I did kinda consider this a self-made Event Pokémon) that could mess with whether it gets flagged as illegal or not (I don't really care about that so much, but the more legal I can get with it, the better). I just want to know if it actually worked and maybe get some hints from more experienced editors out there before I try to proceed further. The main reason I made this was to be able to gain access to Unity Tower and perform the Masuda Method without the use of the now defunct GTS. (Edit: Updated the .pkm file)
  24. Well I actually posted what I came up with in the B/W AR Code thread (hopefully this link takes you right to it). They do actually work (tested them myself). ...44 lines? I don't think the codes for B/W are that long. Well, if you're using the same Genesect I am, you should be able to see the line where the actual Wonder Card data begins (which should be identical no matter what game or region you key into PokéGen), and anything above that would probably be where your potential targets to change are.
  25. Well, I haven't seen a working B2/W2 Wonder Card code, so I can't say if it's a simple process or not. You're only partly right about PokéGen's "usefulness", though. While you won't get a working code out of it for B2/W2, there IS still good data that can be gathered from it. The coding for the Wonder Card and Pokémon themselves are still valid, so that cuts down considerably on the data you'd actually have to convert (since the Card and Poké data makes up about 70-75% of the whole code, and is universal since I actually made a Wonder Card code for the B2/W2 Plasma Genesect to be used for Black and White). From my observations, the part you want to focus on would be the first 10~ lines (I don't know if B2/W2's Wonder Card codes are longer or shorter in this particular area, but for Black & White it's the first 10). That block of the code includes the button trigger command, the Wonder Card slot designation, and basically what makes the code work (and there will be differences between B2 and W2). Figure that part out and you've got it cracked.
