  1. Personally I would run a Niave nature and focus more on the special attack as you're running 3 special attack moves and 1 physical, (I might even go as far as to make it a sub+3 with Sub/Grass knot/Hidden Power Ice(/Focus Punch)/Thunder bolt. With focus punch I'd say something like 60 - 80 Atk EVs, 252 speed and the rest in special attack; same goes for volt tackle too. But yeh, Niave nature first and for most.

Oh, and unless you're in the rain, don't run Thunder.

Mind you, what I suggest is merely the standard, and in this case I reckon it would work better than your unique set.

  2. Yes, thank you. I guess this answers my question but for the record, I asked this question so i can make my own spreads exactly how I want them. The point was to find out the easiest way to make my own ev spreads without resorting to the usual 252/252/4 thing. Thanks a lot for your reply.

Well that's easy .. random calculations. Read articles aswell. 252/252/4 is lazy, I'll agree, because certainly there's no call, a lot of the time, for maxed speed. For instance, if you are only worried about base 110 speeds, and you're running a 130 speed Pokémon, then you don't need to max the speed stat. Similarly, if you can get an OHKO and foes X/Y/Z with only 200 investment, then run that instead.

A lot of it is merely about knowing what numbers mean what.

404 HP = great for 101 health subs, so a sub abuser might want to focus on getting to 404 HP

417 HP = optimum leftover recovery and minimum SR damage

    320 Speed = Outpacing neutral 110s and postive 95s

    And etcetera

  3. EV spreads, my friend, are for you to make to tailor your Pokémon to perform exactly how you want it to.

You can run standard EV sets predetermined by Smogon, and if that's how you want it to work then by all means do it. However, for the best use of EVs it is worth making your own, or (atleast) using the predetermined EVs as a template and working from there.

Smogon also have a damage calculator you can use to determine how you want your EVs too, however that's more "random Calculations" In fact I reccomend you make more random calculations, it'll pay off in the long run.

I hope that answers your question?

  4. "For man had succeeded in destroying the world, but war. War never changes. Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage."

~ In game narration of "Fallout 3"

  5. "The Prise. Burdened eternally with the responsibility of guarding the Keywork. In their creation God saved them these words:

'If man should decide to dabble in my affairs, then Guardians must intervene. But, should I come forth to change the face of man with you there to challenge me... Then I shall return with all the stars to destroy all I have made. Whether man or I present that danger will not be told in the coming.'"

  6. "Oh, what are they going to do when the lights go down

Without you to guide them all to Zion?

What are they going to do when the rivers overrun

    Other than tremble incessantly?"

  7. Follow the link in my signature and download Pokégen.

So long as you are able to extract your.PKM file all should be well.

    Steps:

1- Download Pokegen and open it up.

2- Load your save file via the "file" tab.

3- Load the .PKM file via the "file" tab.

4- Right click on an empty space in your box and select "set"

5- Save your adjustments, again through file.

This method won't make it appear as caught, however.

For it to appear as caught, make a random Stunky, put it in an egg, hatch the egg, and then release the hatched stunky.

    I hope that somewhat helps.

  8. Hey y'all!

    I figured I'd start a new game.

I guess this is really a thread for sharing your favourite pieces of work

The game's as simple as you can get, really. All you have to do is post a quote that links to the previous post via one of the words used (Don't use crappy links such as "the, and, a, I" etcetera), or by making a link with name. So, you can post from the same author as the previous poster if you'd like, or from the same Movie. Again, it has to be a proper word. For example "The Hills Have Eyes", you can quote "Hills" and "Eyes".

The post can be as long or short as you like, a line from a song, to a poem to a paragraph from a speech, hell a cool quote from a film/TV show works too.

To show where the link is made put bold tags around the chosen word. Similarly, cite where the quote's from so if someone's interested they can go and look for more work by that person.

Refrain from swearing. It's not a thread for posting which song has the highest curse count. On that note, thought provoking posts are cool ->, vulgar posts are teh failz0r ->

    Example:

Post 1] - All things are subject to interpretation. Whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth. ~ Frederic Nietzche

Post 2] - Power is power, the law of the land. Those living for death will die by their own hand. ~ Annihilation- Crucifix

    So, without Further Ado;

Free will. It’s like butterfly wings: once touched, they never get off the ground.

~ John Milton, from the Film "The Devils Advocate"

  9. Welcome to the site, Talha.

Being an older player you might be interested in the competitive side of things. We play competitively here and there should always be at least one of us in there, so feel free to stop by.

    See you soon. :)

  10. Hi Flippyfeet,

Welcome to the site. Feel free to go check out the ROM editing section. And while you're at it follow the link in my signature for an alternative to Pokesav.

Enjoy your stay, see you around. :)

  11. You could do what riolu says, or you could indeed take a peek at smogon to see what they say. But honestly in game it really doesn't matter a whole lot, and with some of the movesets you're running the EVs won't help a lot anyway.

EVs do play a huge factor in the competitive scene for sure, but just do what you want in-game my friend :D.

If you're thinking about taking the team to WiFi, then you're really going to want to re-evalute the movesets you've chosen, as spamming three attacks of the same type is just too easily walled. You want to be thinking about A) hitting as many types of pokemon as possible B) directly hurting the pokemon's counters C) a move that can raise the effectiveness of the pokemon you're using.

The exact same applie to EVs. Can you A) out speed notable threats? B) Can you live an attack from a counter? C) is the chosen EV spread the most effective it could have for what YOU want it to do.

  12. Hey Matt,

Welcome to the forums. It's always nice to meet another veteran :D.

Good luck with the RNG stuff, I wish I could help but sadly I've not a clue how to do it, lol.

If you need a hand with anything OTHER than that feel free to ask xD

    See you around.

  13. You banning me for that is like ...

    I dunno.

Me banning you because I have a cover of Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence.

On a totally different tangent, though somewhat relevant to the post in hand; is it just me or do Depeche Mode songs always sound better when someone else is covering them?

  14. Well...

    I guess I'll post here :D.

I must say, through all of my scepticism and cynicism things haven't turned out too bad. I am thankful for the gifts the older stuff got given this generation. Namely, as Wraith touched upon, Mischievous Heart Sableye; Dia on the battle field - Naked Tom Embodied to Wraith. It really is a beast, I had been excited ever since the release of the Dream world abilities and, boy, has it delivered.

Currently I'm running (and dare I say I was the first to run) a move-set of Sub/Protect/Will o Wisp/Nightshade. Priority on all but night shade means that I can Burn stall many physical attackers; most of whom being of the fighting nature so switching in is all but a given. Similarly, I can switch in on a lot of specially inclined folk and do the same, it becomes harder because after the burn they can still break through my substitute but I can take a nice hefty chunk away before switching someone else in on a resisted move and getting rid of them . He's been an asset to all of my gen 5 teams thus far and seems to be the defensive king pin needed to get passed a lot of the new physical guys.

Porygon2 is another gifted pokemon this generation. in prior generations it was used to get rid of the likes of Salamence and Gyarados and this generation it got given a 30% defensive boost in form of Evo- Stone for all the more walling to help with these new uber powered pokes. Running a set of Trick Room/ Recover/ Boltbeam means I can PP stall A LOT of guys (Even physically enclined folks thanks to burn support from Sableye) whilst being an offensive threat at the same time. Roopushin laughs at poor P2, but that's where sableye steps in (so long as it's not a guts variant). She reminds me of a Jui-jitsu vet'... able to attack and hurt things even when in a bad spot :).

A lot of guys that were good in Gen 4 are still good now. Flygon can still revenge and scout things as good as ever; Starmie is still a great spinner/ status absorber. So I'm happy. While stuff is definitely getting trolled on (Machamp, Scizor, Hitmonchan < Roopushin) there's new viability to be seen.

I've not tried a whole lot of things as of yet, but I am certainly very much aware that this trapping candle is going to be a pain in the ass, the weird legendary cloud guys; namely the ground flyer, aren't going to be easy to deal with. I do, however, fear that stuff like Scizor may fall into UU territory. Machamp will survive due to its awesome lead role. But I know for sure, UU won't be a pretty place to play in.

Stall isn't completely viable. I haven't used ut, but I didn't use it in gen 4 either. It seems that instead of their being stall teams there will be stalling pivots; pace setters, so to speak. For instance Jolorda can stall until the cows come home, Sableye too can do this (WoW/Toxic). And I guess I quite like that. The feel that instead of it just being your standard 6v6 battle royale, you do need to set the pace of the battle if you want to get somewhere. A lot of my teams are built with a long-haul in mind, and while in gen 4 it was possible to get a quick sweep out of a long-game team, in Gen V you have to implement and dictate the pace lest you get beat by someone elses pace. (I hope that makes some sort of sense.)

Briefly I touched on some of the broken-ness. But I won't go into detail there. There's too much stuff I haven't tried for me to comment on it plausibly and I've not tried in any intricate sense to counter said problem pokes.

As for balance; You can't tell at all. With this current Level 100 tier, and people using that as an excuse to use clearly over powered pokes, getting any sense of balance is quite far off. However, in battling guys with pokemon that will clearly be OU > it feels almost balanced, by no means stable as I still don't know who most of these new guys are just yet, but certainly almost balanced xD. I don't know, I miss Scizor already :/. I suppose if you forget about gen 4 and take generation 5 as if it were the only generation, or at least with an unbiased frame of mind, there is balance - a lot of new hard hitters, but more defensive capabilities thanks to new abilities/changes and new items.

Overall I am really quite happy. the pokemon still look dumb as hell, but I've been using my old favourites and testing out their new toys, and I think if you were scared of Gen V then doing that is the best way to get into the new generation.

Oh ... Ugly moth is ugly.

And God damn it I will make Butterfree sweep!
