HSRW101 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Here's something I hope someone can help me with. I've been considering using PKHeX for a while now, but since I don't know that much about the process when it comes to installation. I need an opinion. I know it says that if I follow the instructions carefully and precisely, everything will work fine on my system no problem. In this case my system is the New 3DS. But here's my concern. I have a LOT of games, DLC and data saved on my system's hard drive and I don't want to risk messing my system up in the case that something happens during the set up. I was thinking instead that I could buy a new 2DS which I could use as my main PKHeX device so I can do all the edits I want without worrying about the risk of damaging my main 3DS if I were to mess up in the installation process. I am aware that I would spend at least $120-130 pending on taxes while the 2DS new is sold at $109, but pending on the outcome I would feel safer that way. But I just need to know from people who have experience with using the PKHeX. If anyone can help me with this decision that would be great!
wejhvabewjty Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 PkHex is a PC software. And you can use PkHex as long as you have access to homebrew launcher (which has no risk involved), there's no need to install arm9loaderhax (but its recommended though). You just need to remember to have backups of the saves you edit in case something goes wrong and you should be good.

Ok, so a lot of this is PC based, good to know. the arm9loaderhax you mentioned, that goes on the 3DS/2DS correct? And is there a guide somehow that shows how to backup your saves in your game file (For Pokemon Sun in this case) on your computer and/or elsewhere?

theSLAYER Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Yeah, the guide works. Type of SD card isn't a problem. Tho, I think if the size of SD card is too big, it'll be using a different format, and you'll have to convert the SD card format.http://gbatemp.net/threads/whats-the-biggest-sd-card-size-youve-got-working.450262/#post-6869491

It works very well.

theSLAYER Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 16GB should be enough to operate 3DS. I don't think 16GB comes in ex-FAT (the format that gives 3DS problems). However if it ain't working for you, Back up everything to your computer, then format your SD card. 1

I checked, all I can see that its the Lexar brand, didn't say anything else. also, since I have the latest version of the new 3ds software which is 11.3 or something like that, can either still be used? Also, which would be better? CFW or homebrew?
theSLAYER Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 You'll have to refer to https://3ds.guide/ when it comes to which firmware works and which doesn't. I'll say CFW is better, but slight risks ensues during installation. Of course, I have CFW personally, for many homebrew and event related reasons.

I took a look at the guide like you recommended but I have the 11.3.0-36U version, does that mean I cannot use any format?
