Aqueel Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 So I have an Articuno and a Mew that are in desperate needs of a nickname. Any suggestions?
wraith89 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Eh... my Articuno is named "Freeze" after her Korean name (I'm Korean...) and Mew... er... I called it Cairo. You can try other icy associated names for Articuno, such as Blizzard or Fimbulvetr (the latter means a period of harsh winter near the end times in Norse mythology).
Aqueel Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Heh, I used to use mythology to name my online characters in games such as WoW. I don't know why I didn't think of using it to name my Pokemon.
wraith89 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I'm an avid reader of mythology... so I love using those types of names
Aqueel Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 When I have time, I like to read up on mythology, legends, or cryptids. (And I always have time everyday, so yeah, lots of reading =D) Of course, I have a horrible memory, so I often forget most of it until I reread it. And emoticons inside brackets always look weird...
Destati Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Not a big fan of single-existence Pokemon like Mew, Rayquaza and Giratina. Call it Hraesvelgr. Its an Ice Bird in Norse Mythology that creates the Northern wind http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hr%C3%A6svelgr
wraith89 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 North Wind sounds more like Suicune though, but that sounds cool ^
Destati Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Suicune doesn't flap its wings to create the North Wind though.
wraith89 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 True true... I guess Articuno's the closest you can get then :-/
ZMaster Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Eh... my Articuno is named "Freeze" after her Korean name (I'm Korean...) and Mew... er... I called it Cairo. You can try other icy associated names for Articuno, such as Blizzard or Fimbulvetr (the latter means a period of harsh winter near the end times in Norse mythology). Try doing something like what wraith89 does. I did that to some of my Pokémon. I nicknamed my Empoleon = Enperuto.
Destati Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Go all out with nicknames. Don't name your Scizor RedScyther. My friend wanted me to make him a scyther. I named it Dumbnuts. Here's some of my Pokemon: Dusknoir - Mordred. The knight who killed King Arthur Togekiss - Galahad. The most sincere knight of King Arthur's Court Zapdos - Air Man. Because you can't defeat Air Man. You can get behind him, but its no use because you'll just get blown away in the end Video Lucario - Lucario. Because I don't nickname Pokemon if there's only one of them</denial> Gardevoir - Maaya. As in Maaya Sakamoto. Don't judge me : ( Leafeon - Kokiri. As in the children from Zelda Mamoswine - Ysengrin. If you don't read Gunnerkrigg thenyou really should start Vaporeon - Luna. It would make more sense it it was an Umbreon. Its the name of my Dog. Flygon - Honestly, I really don't know yet.
wraith89 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Mordred is supposed to be Arthur's nephew and Gawain's brother. He was taken out in later texts to make room for Briton Hope. Galahad is a later knight... I haven't read about him. Air Man was my first boss in MM2, but he took like 7 damage per buster shot I've done at him. But I admit, he IS hard. Luna is the name of my Cresselia I named my Vaporeon Undine. I named by Flygon Beelzebub... but now I think it fits Yanmega more :-/
HottSushiz Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 You should make a thread of Pokemon Nicknames where people can post what they have nicknamed their Pokemon and people can get help on what to nickname their Pokemon anywhom I'm just gonna list some the Pokemon i have nicknamed (well the ones i can remember) Four Arms! - Machamp GigaShock - Jolteon MetalNinja - Scizor Shin0bi - Ninjask OverPower - Tyranitar Dark Moon - Umbreon Dark Rebel - Weavile Alpha/Aura - Lucario Resistance - Togekiss Tiny - Snorlax DracoShark - Garchomp 2HitKO - Rattata Shadowsz/Shade - Gengar Marshmello - Blissey BubbleGum - Mew and that's all that i can remember on the top of my head, i have way more. 30+
Enkidu Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Do you really want us to give them nick names for you? I kinda suck at Nick names, I just used the Seven deadly Sins for mine. Envy, Greed, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony and Lust In English. ( Sloth is the missing one ) Invidia, Avaritia,Superbia, Ira, Gula and Luxuria in Latin. ( Acedia is the missing one ) Or in some games I use the Seven Holy Virtues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_virtues If none of them work, I'm out of decent options.
Aqueel Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Hmmm...raises the question if Snorlax would make a better Gluttony or Sloth... I remember I went through a phase where I named all my Pokemon after Lost characters =) Oh, and in Pokemon Blue, I named my Butterfree "Margarine"
wraith89 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Why didn't I say this before? http://projectpokemon.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1340 Pokemon named after members of this board Try that if you run out of ideas...
wraith89 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Oh yeah, I need to alter my moveset don't I. You can change your Pokemon too if you need to. And Aqueel name your Mew Greencat
Destati Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Why would I ever change my Pokemon : / Actually, I've got about 20 different avatars, all in the same messed up pose.
wraith89 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Yeah, that Jigglypuff is... kinda messed up. @_@ Did you realize the original one I gave you is from Smash Bros? And more suggestions, literary characters! Like classical literature and whatnot... like Oliver Twist or The Tale of the Two Cities... or Les Miserables. One of my Gardevoir is named Cosette
Destati Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 wraith, go here http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2523/smashcomicfullxq7.png Look half-way through where Snake talks about sneaking into the hospital. For some reason 4chan couldn't get that image of Link out of its head, so anonymous created a ton of images of characters in identical poses. I have around 8 Pokemon ones.
wraith89 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 o_O That's where you're getting these from. Nice. More nicknames, anyone? Trivia: Zapdos is named Electhor in French... Thor being the god of thunder of Norse mythology. Try using different languages names?
Arjun - PeeB4UGo Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I've seen people rename their Pokémon by spelling it backwards, you could try that.
wraith89 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I name my Pokemon into different Pokemon sometimes... like I named my Yanmega "Blastoise" and Rhyperior "Azelf"
Aqueel Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 I have also done that....such as naming my Blastoise "Venusaur" back in Pokemon Blue. The opponent would pull out their Charizard, and then I would wreck them. Of course, it only worked once, but it was fun.
