    Year of the Legendary Pokémon

    By Cecillia, in News,

As of Thursday, January 18th 2018, The Pokémon Company International declared 2018 to be the “Year of the Legendary Pokémon”. This means that there will be various distributions of legendary Pokémon throughout the year.

The Pokémon that get distributed aren't mythical Pokémon, but luckily 2017 was the 20th anniversary. In celebrating the occasion, they distributed mythical Pokémon throughout the year. This year they chose for a similar scheme, but the legendary Pokémon you receive depends on your game. (e.g. Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon) Additionally, this marks the first time that Shiny Zygarde is being officially recognized by TPCi, and to be slated for release in June.

    Pokémon distribution schedule:
    February
Sun/Ultra Sun: Palkia Moon/Ultra Moon: Dialga March
    Heatran Regigigas April
    Raikou Entei May
    Xerneas Yveltal June
    Shiny Zygarde July
    Tornadus Thundurus August
    Groudon Kyogre September
    Latios Latias October
    Reshiram Zekrom November
    Ho-oh Lugia
Some of them come with a gold bottle cap. They are at least level 60, and know "awesome moves", according to TPCi.

Pokémon Supernova Sun and Penumbra Moon is now widely available for VG players!  Only a month after Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon were released we are presented with the first ROM hack for USUM.  Truly explore the Alola region like never before!  So let’s get into it but first and foremost, @Dio_Vento, thank you!
If you’re familiar with some of his other works from the past such as: Rutile Ruby & Star Sapphire and last year’s hit Nova Sun & Umbra Moon, than you probably know what sort of fun you’re getting yourself into.  However, if you’re new to this scene, follow along.  Pokémon SnS/PuM is a fully functional ROM hack to use only with Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon games.  To clarify, you must own or buy the original game(s) to use a ROM hack.
Moving right along, there are four builds available for this ROM hack. Each build holds unique properties so read the descriptions carefully and choose the one most suited for you.
    Pokémon in SnS/PuM:
Bigger variety can be caught in the wild (no version exclusives).  Access to all Pokémon evolution lines excluding non-Legendaries before the Elite Four.  Also the probability of them holding items is increased significantly.  Pokémon that require special evolution items and Pokémon that are capable of Mega-Evolution may be found holding their respective items in the wild.  A Pokémon’s special evolution action such as Trade Evolutions and time/location based evolutions has be altered In favor of convenience.  And much, much more.
    Poké Marts and Items:
The more un-popular items have been purged from Marts and replaced with “competitive” items.  Also watch those price tags -the economy is ever changing.  In addition to those changes, some items’ effects have been changed. One item was renamed and repurposed, also keep and eye out of a new item: the Restoration Wing!  It fully restores your Pokémon’s HP and status conditions.  The Restoration Wing cannot be used during battles.
Last but not least, changes to Trainers:
Trainer teams have been re-designed to be more competitive and carry more Pokémon. All island bosses and main foes carry six Pokémon.  This is a great training experience for your Pokémon with EXP Share, and for you.  Hours of grinding isn’t really necessary as you will level up fairly along your quest to match your opponents. You may find yourself thinking outside of your normal way of play; coming up with new strategies in response to the harsher demand on your team.

    Pokémon Crystal Gets VC Release

    By Cecillia, in News,

Today an official announcement was made for a 3DS Virtual Console release of Pokémon Crystal. This means that Pokémon from all main-series games can be legitimately transferred to the latest games. Back when Pokemon transitioned onto the Gameboy Advance system, Pokémon from Gen 1 and Gen 2 cartridges weren't legitimately obtainable (via transfer) due to limitations in the link cable design. The release on the 3DS Virtual Console will take place on January the 26th, 2018. In Europe there will be a physical release with the download code in the box, while in Japan there will be a physical release with a magnet based on Crystal's Cartridge, a poster with all the Pokémon released in gen 2 and with a gen 2 type compatibility chart, stickers, and also a download code. There is also a separate download code available in Japan.

The Japanese version holds the possibility to get the GS ball in Goldenrod City's Pokémon Communication Center, but only after beating the Elite Four. For Europe and America releases, while the English trailer announced that players will be able to encounter Celebi, there is no hard confirmation detailing whether it will be done via the GS ball at this point.

We first found out that Pokémon Crystal would likely get a Virtual Console release, as patches supporting Pokémon Crystal was found bundled together with Virtual Console's Pokémon Gold and Silver, as discovered by our well known member @SciresM (tweets as seen below). Later, when Poké Transporter got updated for Gold and Silver support, he discovered that Poké Transporter also preemptively supports Crystal, despite it being unreleased at that point.

  • Our picks

    • Since they released over a decade ago, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games for the Nintendo DS have not had much in the way of ROM editors. Over the past few years, hackers have slowly learned more and more about the inner workings of the games, culminating in the most advanced PMD editor to date: Sky Temple.

SkyTemple is a user-friendly level editor for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that gives the user full control over graphics, scripts, Pokémon data, and more, enabling a great amount of creative freedom to prospective ROM hackers to create not just edits of the game, but entirely new levels and plots.

See the trailer for the version 1.0.0 release for quick samples of what can be accomplished:
