  1. So I rebuilt a rom to make a .cia file and everything so far works great! Love the game and was working on getting it setup for awhile, but the cartridge icon did not change to Star Sapphire? The intro has your name on it and the main screen splash is Star Sapphire so the romhack is installed correctly afaik, just no icon change.

The icon is cached in your 3DS, not sure how to remove it from cache so you get the new icon. Thankfully, the icon doesn't impact your enjoyment of the game!

  2. I registered just to say this: this is the best mod I have ever played. 90% of hacks are unplayable for me due to how easy they are. But this is absolutely perfectly difficult. Extremely challenging from the first gym on. You nailed the competitive feel.

Question for anyone, is there any other hacks out there with a similar difficulty curve? With well built, competitive based trainer teams? I cannot find anything that even compares to this hack. The care taken with the trainers Pokemon and move sets is amazing and it seems this is sorely lacking from the modding scene otherwise.

Thank you for the compliment. Currently, Drayano's hacks are the most well-known difficulty mods. I haven't developed anything else, but if you check the bottom of this thread's OP you'll be pleasantly surprised by my next project.

I know this is probably answered somewhere here, but I'l ask anyway. Is this hack suppose to include the recolor textures of May and Brendan? b/c I opened the romf.bin but they are still in their original clothes color and not blue. I read the front page as they were mentioned to have different outfits, tho I'm not sure if that was used as a showcase or not, sounded as if they were included. I don't have any problems knowing how to import texture hacks my only defect/issue is knowing how to recolor the individual areas of the texture pic. Im abit of a noob in that area I could use some pointers on how to recolor with photoshop.

They're blue in Star Sapphire, dark red in Rutile Ruby. If you're not seeing the blue outfits in Star Sapphire, you installed the hack incorrectly.

  3. Hey Dio or anyone who might help, I've got Star Sapphire on CIA now and everything was working perfectly. I opened up my save in svdt checked yes for the anti anti-save stuff then edited it with pkhex. When I went to save it the game started giving me an error has occurred hold down the power button" messages every time I attempted to start it. I figured I'd just delete the save and restart well now svdt won't copy to or from the game, the game still won't start, and rebuilding the game from a clean CIA results in the same thing. Any suggestions?

Uninstall the game from Data Management and reinstall. If that doesn't help you might be boned, I know deleting your save from a save manager makes the game unbootable (says so in the OP)

  4. I said I'm not interested in Homebrew. I would like to inject this into the .3ds file of alpha sapphire I already have on my PC. I do not wish to install Homebrew to install a cia version of Alpha sapphire/omega ruby to use brain dump on just so I can inject the files and then transfer and install as a cia.

Back to a (presumably) easy question, how do I turn this into a .3ds compatible with gateway menu?

Decrypt and extract your ROM (whether it's a .cia or .3ds), copy the contents of the exe folder in the distribution pack over the contents of the exe folder you extracted, do the same for the contents of romfs and the extracted romfs folder. Rebuild and run. Google is your friend for rebuilding 3DS or CIA files.

Uninstall any OR/AS updates on your system before playing.

Shadow Pokémon are from Colosseum/XD, and are presumably impossible to code into Gen 6 hacks. The bigger question here is why anyone would think to ask whether a Gen 6 hack included them.

There's Youtube videos of people who hacked altered models into their games that look like Shadow Lugia etc. They're just skins, but some people actually think they're a new mechanic... :bidoof:

  5. Is there a lucky egg in the game?

Also, that chick in the print of slateport market in the main topic doesnt sell those items. She sells incense items...

Again, great hack. Better than the original by far

Edit: how about sacred ash? Can we buy it somewhere?

You installed the rom wrong. You either

A: Are running the game with HANS and didn't follow the instructions (redownload the distribution pack and copy the /hanspack/hans/rruby.code or /hanspack/hans/ssapphire.code file to the SD:/hans folder)

B: Are running the game as a CIA or .3ds rom and have the game updates installed (uninstall the game updates)

C: Are running the game as a CIA or .3ds rom and compiled it wrong, didn't include the code.bin (recompile your .3ds or .cia)

I'm pretty sure I'm doing that right (I can see your edits to it in Pok3ds), but the reverse process to make the .code, I must be doing something wrong - I tried renaming .code.bin to <name>.code, but that results in my abovementioned crash....

Please keep this discussion to another thread as it is completely unrelated to Rutile Ruby/Star Sapphire.

My patchers currently include your modified code.bin, icon.bin, and banner.bin, (and the edited romfs files) in the form of xdelta patches. With a little more work, it could even patch the manual and download play partition, if A. it's included in the ROM being patched, B. there's any changes, and C. I knew how to repack different NCCH partitions into a 3DS or CIA file.

The only thing in question is whether or not my patcher is fully stable, so what better way to test it than having it distribute the only ROM hack that I think is worth playing. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much for the compliment. I'll look into your patchers and if they work simply I'll add them to the OP as the way to create .3ds or .cia installs of the game. I sent you a PM about banner editing, if I officially support .cia creation again I'd love to have an updated banner.

  6. If anyone's looking, here's links to my patcher tools. Instructions are the same as they were a few posts up. If there's a problem, please report it in this thread or in a PM, so we can keep this thread about the mod itself.

Star Sapphire 2.0 - Legit Build

Star Sapphire 2.0 - Leveled Build

    Star Sapphire 2.0 - 679 Build

Does your patcher include code.bin? If it is incapable of including those, please don't distribute Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire. Many important changes are in the code.bin.

  7. Whta will happen if i trade/battle using the normally unobtnainable pkm from 679 to a regular Alpha Sapphire?

Edit: I think you forgot tô provide de wild pokémon locations in the main post

    Amazing so far on 2.0 - 679

    Difficulty= Perfect!

Is there anyway we could get a wild encounters list? I've tried using pk3ds but it doesnt show all pkm in the areas, for some reason.

679 Build Encounter List. Rather than make every Evolution state available, I've simply spread species around that you can evolve and breed. For example, instead of making Fletchling, Fletchinder, and Talonflame all catchable somewhere, I simply made Fletchling available on Route 104 North.

  8. Whta will happen if i trade/battle using the normally unobtnainable pkm from 679 to a regular Alpha Sapphire?

Edit: I think you forgot tô provide de wild pokémon locations in the main post

Nothing will "happen", although the pokemon caught in 679 Build won't be "legal" and probably won't be usable online.

I am currently using a .cia file for v1.3 of Star Sapphire. Do you know if I would be able to change over to v2.0 while keeping the same save file I have now?

You need to back up your save using jksv or svdt, then build a new .cia for Star Sapphire and restore. Alternatively, use the HANS method to run 2.0 over your 1.3 CIA, this doesn't require any save backup.

  9. One small issue is that if you trade for a Pokemon and attempt to use it on the last gym, by the time you level it to a relevant level to challenge Wallace, it won't obey you because it's over level 80 (highly unfortunate in this case, as it is a bulky Grass-type and is my entry-hazard setter). Is it possible to move perfect obedience to an earlier badge?

Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to do that in PK3DS. In your case, I would suggest modifying your save in PKHeX and setting yourself as the Pokémon's original trainer.

  10. Thanks Dio_Viento! Now that I actually have SS up and running, I've been telling tons of people about it.

I just beat Wattson last night.

I have near-about finished Y, do you have any plans of doing an updated version of XY? Not to take away from Flintiex's NeoX / NeoY; I'd just rather my 'Mons be legit and tradable to other games.

With Sun and Moon coming (And your announcement of Nova Sun and Umbra Moon), I wouldn't be surprised if you said no. I'm just curious. Y has been way too easy, and I've appreciated the challenge that SS has given me.

I had been working on ApeX and AbYss versions, but burned out on the project because I just don't like Kalos. I might pick it up in my spare time, I am approximately 16% complete on editing trainers. Don't expect anything soon.

  11. Hey Dio_Vento!

The more and more I try to figure out how to unpqck, rebuild, and repack a ROM the more I realize just how over my head it is.

Do you happen to know of any video tutorial of how to do it?

I'm still wanting to run Star Sapphire on my Gateway. And I'm sure I'll want to to run Nova Sun or Umbra Moon too :3

There's a video tutorial on repackaging for HANS in my OP, the procedure is mostly the same although you don't want to trim out the first 1000 lines of ROMFS. Read my Gateway instructions in the OP, I don't know of any video tutorials for rebuilding a .3ds or .cia file.

  12. Hey Dio_Vento,

so i got star sapphire to work flawlessly, I even managed to change some moves/learnset. So for the most part i am gonna play this normally. I see that the rom still needs the cartridge to run and uses the save on the cartridge itself. I am wondering if I can have two versions of star sapphire in homebrew? One which is just hack you made and the other a randomized version? This maybe wrong but would having a second game with a different name on it work?

    Thanks BUD!!

Any versions of the hack you have installed would use the same save file as your default game.

  13. I got up to Step 4 in the tutorial, but there's no RomFS Extractor.exe in the Pack Hack download from the description.

Wait, nevermind. The download in this thread is the correct one. You should really update the video's description with it.

    EDIT:

This may seem like a dumb question, but has the location of the move tutors changed at all? I mean, if I wanted to, could my Swampert ever learn Ice Punch before defeating the Champion?

I'm thinking about running a Rain Dance Mega Swampert sweeper, but lacking Ice Punch would mean that Grass-types would stop him cold. I could give him Ice Beam, Power-Up Punch, or maybe even

Hammer Arm, Rock Slide or Stone Edge, but I'd prefer having that sweet icy coverage if I can get it.

I was hoping to do something for Tutor and Egg Moves, but sadly I couldn't find a good way to implement them without manually editing every single one into something's movepool. The workaround I suppose is to either trade your Swampert into your main game to visit the Tutor or use PKHeX on your save to edit the move into its moveset.

  14. Hey ! I searched deep (google and more..) and can't found any .3ds or .cia file of the game (Rutile ruby). I'm using a sky3ds and have no way to use homebrew or gateway. Can someone tell me how to convert the files into a .3ds file or where can I download a premade .3ds file ?

You cannot use ROM hacks with a Sky 3DS even if you follow the detailed instructions in the original post on how to compile a .3ds file. However, you can use your Sky 3DS as a copy of Cubic Ninja and get Ninjhax running on 10.6.

  15. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! I will begin work on Umbra Moon and Nova Sun (Names subject to change) immediately after beating Sun/Moon this holiday season. The hacks will feature difficulty adjustments and reworked battles similar to Rutile Ruby/Star Sapphire, with a focus again being on keeping everything legal for online use while providing easier access to competitive items, EV training, Egg hatching, and a challenging single-player campaign.

    oIwho6n.pngX00OYSy.png

  16. Nope, doesn't work, even when I updated to the 4.7 version it continued to crash after many attempts, plz help, I just wanna get this over and done with... I have been at this since last Wednesday and want to get a randomized rom hack for my little bro...

Try using an older version of Braindump. You're supposed to get a folder containing a *.romfs file, not a CXI.

  17. I can not play online in star sapphire?

Nope, because it's not running the 1.4 patch. You can still trade and battle locally and if you're using the HANS method you can just boot the game normally (as Alpha Sapphire) to trade or battle online. This will also load version 1.4 of Alpha Sapphire if you have it installed.

when it will be able to be run on 1.4 ?

I have no plans to release a version with the 1.4 patch installed, since those methods don't work over HANS anyway. If you're building a CIA or .3DS file, there might be a way to do it yourself but I don't plan to release anything like that. HANS skips loading of downloaded patches, so you don't have to uninstall the patch if you're using that method. Only Gateway/CFW (.3DS/.CIA) installations need the patch manually uninstalled.

when I use braindump it extracts as a cxi file, when I use an extraction tool to get the romfs file, and run it through RomFS Extractor.exe, when I click go it immediately crashes, tried running as administrator, same thing, how can I fix this?

    Specs:

    3dsxl

    firmware:10.1.0-27U

game I am using it for:Alpha Sapphire

Try redownloading the ROM extraction pack (and don't run it from the zipped folder if you're doing so)

  18. VERSION 1.3 RELEASED

Features some bug fixes and the addition of the first of three trainers to the Hall of Fame.

in pokemon star sapphire we can not get the Eon ticket?

You can get the Eon Ticket through Streetpass.

The Horde Battle in the mossdeep space center in the delta episode is a freaking joke.

    :^)

Sorry if its answered already, how do i get the twisted spoon to evolve my kadabra? Thank you.

Wild Abra and Kadabra have a high chance of holding it. Try using a Compound Eyes Thief Pokémon. The best way to farm items from wild Pokémon is to have a fainted Compound Eyes Pokémon in Slot 1 of your party, and a Frisk Pokémon with Thief in slot 2, allowing you to get the increased item hold rate from Compound Eyes but still Frisk and steal the item on the first turn.

"IF USING HANS AND *HAX 2.5 (HOMEBREW) ON A <10.2 CONSOLE (NO GATEWAY)"

Does this method also work with a .cia files of (U) OR/AS? or only with the retail cartridge/e-Shop Thing?

    Thanks

It should work with the CIA, but I haven't tested it. If you can install CIAs though, you could just patch the CIA as Star Sapphire/Rutile Ruby before installing it.

  19. I haven't seen this answered yet so I'm gonna ask, Can you run the hans method with a sky3ds?

I dont want to delete my AS save off my retail cart, but I would like to play star sapphire.

Answered here. Your mileage may vary, I don't own a Sky3DS.

    Notes

    • Any retail cartridges in the "Requirements" area can be replaced by a Sky3DS cartridge, but a Sky3DS cartridge cannot run Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire directly.
