  1. It will only write the new rom the first time you set the rom with ppre. If you make a bunch of changes but do not write a new rom before closing ppre, or if you name the new rom the same thing as the old one, the only thing you can do to continue to edit that file is to delete your tpm folder. Of course, if you made changes without writing, they will be lost, so... just remember to "save" your work each time by writing a new file once all your work for that session is complete. Basically, if you don't see the window come up for ndstool, then it's not writing. It should only take 1 or 2 minutes to finish. The ndstool window will close on it's own when the operation is complete. Also, I have not tried writing the rom multiple times without closing ppre, but if you are doing this and if you suspect that causes it to not write properly on subsequent presses, then simply only "save" once, close ppre, and then do what you have to do to set the rom and work on it later. PPRE remember all the changes you made (that it is able to write), so you can go edit trainers, close that window, and then go edit pokemon, close that window, and hit "write," and all of them will be applied at once.
  2. Well, you get the coin case in the underground in the Japanese version. not 100% sure on the USA version, but most likely it's the same.
  3. rofl what the move data is totally independent to the animations associated with them. you're either editing the attack effects or the attack animations, not both at once. for instance, using the method i described above, i changed Leech Life's base power to 80, but the animation & sound FX are still exactly the same as they always were in whatever version i place the narc file in. this particular narc is totally compatible between all 4th gen games, so i can place it in DPPt or HGSS, and the game will just use whatever animation & FX it normally does. this is definitely not the case with most other narc files, however.
  4. For now, you can edit the narc file from a Diamond or Pearl ROM with Attack Editor DS, and reinsert it into a HG/SS/Platinum ROM. Extremely easy.
  5. I hope you're able to get the level-up moves worked on, since the only resource for easily editing that information that i've been able to track down (via an old archive) is PMEDS by U-Trogh... which only works with DP. Hence, it is totally incompatible - unlike a lot of the other DP editing programs that I've been able to make use of, due to nature of the information (attacks, for instance, were easily dealt with on a Diamond rom and reinserted into HG with no issues). Since Platinum/HG/SS are still so new and there isn't much work being done to them, it's hard to find help in editing this specific portion of the rom. I've been using PPRE for all the large database changes so far, but if you do know of a small tool or guide for editing this in particular, I'd be more than able ot edit it separately and reinsert it later with Nitro Explorer. Level-up moves, though, are a fairly large undertaking compared to just attacks or evolutions, since there are so many attacks per pokemon!
  6. they're black & white because you need to specify a palette for the game to use to color them. how you do this, i have no idea. but i do know tht this is a common issue, so looking on other forums might be a good idea as well.
  7. the project i'm working on doesn't require any new visual material or sprite replacement or visual tweaks... so honestly, i have nothing ot offer you. i just haven't had to learn that aspect.
  8. 1. a lot of the most useful tools are in the sticky thread in this forum. 2. scripts, events and sprites are the 3 most common things for people to edit, i'm sure there are several tutorials on the internet. try searching the Pokemon Community forums, or just googling, and come back with more specific questions. I asked several general questions myself, but i've come to realize that the majority of the hacking community doesn't enjoy doing all the leg work for newbies... so do what i'm doing and learn a bit first before asking a bunch of questions. 3. if you did all that and still have issues, Alpha & SCV are two people that know their stuff
  9. Thanks so much! I'm gonna try this right away. edit: I got it working perfectly. Do you happen to know which offset is evo? Someone has mentioned it's @ a/0/3/4. And while I'm at it... Is there any way to alter what is sold at pokemarts? What do I need to delete in order for the game to skip the step where you name your rival in HG/SS? Where can I find some pointers for creating and inserting additional trainers, their line of sight, movement, etc.? Is there a better way of finding out which maps are which, since they have generic names? How do I go about editing NPC text and scripting NPC events? What do I need to edit to insert a battle transition graphic (like Giovanni)? What map is Giovanni's Celebi event found on (so I can copy some of it)? Oh, and... Are you guys sure PPRE is working properly with HGSS USA? I tried editing evolution data, but it wouldn't save to the rom at all; I had to use a separate tool on Diamond, and now I'm currently trying to import the narc...
  10. I want to thank SCV and everyone that's helped make PPRE possible, because it really is the go-to tool for pokemon hacking! It really is amazing. I hope that you are able to finalize the Attack editing tool portion, however, since all my efforts so far have not been working when it comes to editing moves in hg/ss.
  11. I've read that the attack data as it pertains to battle is stored in "waza_tbl.narc," but upon replacing SS's file with a hacked version from Diamond (which works perfectly in Diamond, btw), nothing happened. This leads me to believe that that file is only half of the data needed to fully edit the attacks in hg/ss. Thus, I need some help! the file system is very, veery different in hg/ss, and a lot of things don't have the same filenames, so where do I begin? kowaza.narc? Are the two roms even compatible at all?
  12. I also could use something that can edit the starters in HG/SS specifically. If there's a way to do it with a hex editor (I've never used one before), then I could do that, since I'm simply going to replace the Chikorita, Cyndaquil & Totodile choices with 3 Eevees. Should be easy, right? Can I get some pointers?
