Illithian Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Well I want to actually get into using IRC. I currently have mIRC, but its clunky, it can only connect to one server, and when you start it up you wait like 20 seconds for the stupid popup windows to close. Essentially I hate IRC right now because of mIRC. I need suggestions on an IRC client. These are my requirements: -Can have 3+ servers open at once -Is free -Works quickly, doesn't make you wait upon startup -Looks good -Minimizes to an icon (near your internet icon and sound icon) -Functions fully with Vista 64bit Thanks for your help.
wraith89 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Would Trillian work? http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ It basically has AIM, YIM, MSN, ICQ and IRC support, and it's pretty compact and neat.
damio Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 mIRC does support multiple servers. /server -m irc.example.com:6667

I can't get to that website... if I could, I'd download it mIRC does support multiple servers./server -m irc.example.com:6667 Well, I'm not interested in reusing mIRC anyway, but that is informative.
Varna Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 In all honesty mIRC is the best IRC program I've ever worked with. Those all-in-one messengers tend to display things improperly, lack features, or just flat out error. If you're really that irritated by the whole 5 or 6 second wait, crack it.
satoshiX Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 XChat is what you're looking for. I have Vista 64bit and it runs perfectly. I'm connected to more than one server 100% of the time. And it minimizes/closes to the tray.
morizuno Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Well u could always use the browser version ''www.purplesurge.com'' and it is fast, can have 3+channels and stuff
damio Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 However I'd like to know how you use multiple servers on mIRC. mIRC does support multiple servers./server -m irc.example.com:6667
