B/W - Level-up moveset editing

Recommended Posts

So, I know that in B/W, level-up movesets are located in a/0/1/8. I can open this in CrystalTile2, but I was wondering, how could I find the data for a specific Pokemon (say, Glaceon)? Also, does anyone know where I can find attacks in hex for B/W, as I know that each moveset goes FF FF FF FF (Moves in hex) FF FF FF FF, but I can't identify the moves.

Any help is much appreciated :)

The smaller window that opens up in CT2 and has a numbered list is the key. Each number up to 649 corresponds to the nationaldex number of a pokemon; double-click on it and it'll take you directly to the start of said pokemon's hex values.

The list of moves is here, and I convert the numbers into hex form here. So Metal Claw - #232 on the list - would be E8 in hex. Since you're right about each move being in FF FF form, "E8" would become "00 E8." And then, for whatever reason, you gotta flip it. So E8 00 is the hex value for Metal Claw.

Hope that helped!

Thanks for the moves list, that will make things so much easier :)

I can't see the side window in CT2, do you have an image so I know what to look for?

EDIT: Never mind, turns out my version was outdated >_<. Problem solved, thanks for all the help :)

I just used @Andibad's  AndiToolkit BW & B2W2 Moveset and Hidden Grotto Editor rather than CrystalTile

Download for it is HERE

The interface is pretty straight forward:
Open Tools > Select what you want to edit > Click open and select the .narc you want to edit > All opens and displays nicely to edit

Screenshot below for reference:

Yes it is super easy to edit.

Basically click the move, then select a new move from the dropdown menu that it opens.
It will open and show every move that is inside your ROM.

You can also change the level that they learn them, add new ones and remove moves if desired.

Yes if you have Version 1.0.0.3, there should be a tab above the moveset when you navigate

Above the list, but below where it has 'Moveset' and 'HEX'. you should see the name of the 'Attack' and then a number with two arrows next too it (level it is learn at).
There is also a button for 'Add' and 'Remove'

Example is below:

@Monty3540 Hi, saw that you recently posted about this wonderful tool. So I followed the link you attached to a previous message, downloded the tool and ran the .exe file. I then clicked the edit learnset tool, opened the a018 narc and I dont get any info about any pokemon loaded and I also cant edit them. Any idea what I did wrong? Kind regards WWW2643

Hi @www263 sorry for the late reply I haven't been on the forum much recently due to work

The NARC you need for BW Moveset is a018
For B2W2 Moveset it is also a018

When you load up ANDT, you need to click: Tools > Moveset Editor

Then Click 'Open' (see screenshot 1)

image.png.618a97fc9ac815597628cb59d3ab54fc.png
You then just need to locate where your a018.narc is, after you have extracted it from your ROM using either NitroExplorer2b or Tinke (Whichever you prefer)

It should 'Auto-detect' the ROM you have loaded, but you can change this to be specifically BW or B2W2 to be sure before you load the Moveset narc.

Once that is all loaded, you should get a list showing like in the second screenshot here:

image.png.65d915ad634057b1ed1dee32571c686d.png

All the Pokemon will be on the left hand side collumn, with the moveset in the larger white area.
If you scroll up, you will see a Dropdown menu with moves (Tackle) and a number next too it (1)

If you can select an existing move in the list the Pokemon has - you will then be able to use this dropdown to change the move and level to where it currently is.
Alternatively, you can add more or delete current ones

I am not sure if there is a limit on the amount of moves. It ws 20 in PtHGSS but could be more in Gen 5.

Once your changes are done, click 'Save As', save your narc as a new name or overwrite the previous a018 narc, in the location you want.
I tend to save them as new names to have a record of updates and changes by the date, alongside a notepad changelog just incase.

With that all saved, reinsert it back into your ROM with NitroExplorer or Tinke, fire it up and see if those changes have been successful.
Going to the Move Relearner is the best way to test, especially if you have editted any earlier moves. (Ideal if you have a Level 100 Pokemon too)

Hope this helps!

Hi @Monty3540

Thank you for responding, glad you check in at all, no one is forcing you to, so happy that you share your knowledge :)

Here is what happens when I follow your steps, any ideas why?

kind regards

Screenshot (13).png

I know It's been 2 years since then but does anyone know why this happens
I've tried almost everything at this point, used clean roms, downloaded older .net runtimes (2, 4, 4.5, 6), opened it with admin perms, reinstalled, tried a different pc.

Would love to know if someone knows how to fix this since it's the only moveset editor which exists for gen 5.
