I probed deeply into Korean history recently because I dabbled too much with 18th-19th century West, and the more I read about it, the more I feel this nation should be back to its glory. The Goguryeo Kingdom was one of the main superpowers of Asia at that point, they had militaristic superiority and repeatedly defeated the invading Han Dynasties who severely outnumbered them and Japanese invasions because of strong archery. Some of the history is more haunting to me and it seems to be the precursor of what is to happen... in fact, it seems repeated even in the West or the Middle East.

When South Koreans went to Vietnam to fight, they were really antagonistic because they knew what they were fighting against: the very same system that divided their own nation. The U.S. didn't lose the war in Vietnam; they would have won, but the liberals back home refused to fund it any longer and so they retreated. The Congress lost the war, not the American soldiers.

America is a republic; people will deny that it is a "pure democracy". Elections they say are based on a "democratic process" but it isn't: it is controlled by the elites (evident by the fact by two Skull and Bones members, John Kerry and George W Bush were against each other at one point). Besides, the popular votes never count: it is the electoral votes that count, which is done by the electoral college. Yes, the people's votes are meaningless.

Union of the Korean peninsula will certainly help; North is at a verge of suicide due to its isolationism and communism and South, while it has survived and is doing very well economically, there's still a lot left to be desired. It has problems, but it is heaven compared to North or Vietnam. 50/53/35 defences with just Normal/Fighting moves? Oh man... yeah seriously. Fightings and Poisons were basically the anathema of Gen I; you'd be crushed by the Psychics. I'm still finding the old games fun though, though I don't know WHAT it is. So wanna try the old ones out?

Do whatever you want with it. I don't really care at this point though.

Hitmonlee's still fragile, though 110 SpDef somewhat offsets that, base 50 HP that is usually uninvested generally does not help much. But yeah, the special split in Gen II helped most fighters in the special department. The emphasis at that time was GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL, not really for battling. Battles were trainwrecks; the Psychics and Normals dominated the "metagame" due to NO RECHARGE Hyper Beam after it faints somebody. Forget about Alakazam, he's a noob compared to Mewtwo :L

Eh I grew up with the design; it isn't too bad anymore, but I don't know, I was rather unimpressed at the beginning.

Go ahead and do the analyses; I haven't updated the thread at all, but I think I will when I have time to.

Now imagine those teams with 6 Alakazams or 5 Alakazam and 1 Chansey... that was ridiculous >_>

Some more stuff: Charizard and Blastoise had a special of 85 and Venusaur had a special of 100, Charizard has 109 SpA/85 SpD, Blastoise has 85 SpA/105 SpD, and Venusaur now has 100 SpA/SpD. Then there were the Hitmons... now Hitmonchan would have been cool with 110 Special, but no... he ended up with 35 Special <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sad.png" alt=":(" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I've grown up with Volcarona's design by now, but initially I was aghast. But it's still a bit... meh. It needs to look beautiful or something.

Yeah, back then Special was one stat. What made Mewtwo scary? 154 Special meant 154 Special Attack AND Special Defence. Amnesia rose Special, so... that meant + 2 Special Attack AND Special Defence! You know how broken that was? Gyarados had 100 Special, meaning it could actually use Special attacks like Fire Blast or Thunderbolt. Then came Gen II... special split happened at this point... hence rebalancing. Many Pokemon lost a lot from this though, such as Gengar's special defence (used to be 130), Chansey's special attack (was 105, now 35), etc...

I know exactly what you're saying and I know Volcarona is supposed to be this demigod of some sort, but still, the design could have been a BIT better methinks. Oh well. I'd rather want to know Rhyhorn's ability to Tail Whip!

Trust me. Little kids seem to delete some SPECIFIC stuff to mess up something for eternity. Not even kidding... and I still don't know why. Eh Ice Beam OHKOd my Salamence once... what in the world?

Only problem is, Muk never had 105 Special during RBY, nor did it have any moves that weren't stuff like Sludge or Body Slam or something. Hmmm... what about Heracross? His stats were distributed right... had the right moves, but what happened?

I complain about it because Hurricane is too epic of a move to be on Volcarona. Eh... or maybe because I wanted Pidgeot to have some use for that move. It's more of a lore-wise complaint than a competitive based one (stop thinking competitive for a second!). I've seen someone use it on a sun team, and it NEVER failed to hit me. Jerk. Though, I'm still wondering... why does WHIMSICOTT learn Hurricane of all things?!

Eh, for SOME weird reason noobs ALWAYS have something to mess with you. ALWAYS... and it's usually VERY specific like how people "accidentally" delete the system32 folder and mess up the computer or something. I mean, sure you can send in Blissey to wall an elemental Rhyperior, but still, you'd otherwise find it hard pressed not to just attack them outright instead of trying to sweep them. Mew with Outrage... what the heck -___-

Oh I've seen those variants... they're a bit bulkier than others, but still OHKOd by 0 Attack Tar. It's not hitting ubers, and it has little use for Hurricane as it tends to be in sun teams rather than rain teams (why does it learn Hurricane?!). But still, it may not be versatile but nobody needs that if you're taking minimal damage and hitting really hard anyways. It just has all the right stats in the right places (I hate when they do that). Such are Gen V pokes.

That is why I am afraid of noobs. And one thing is for sure... NEVER run TAUNT against those players. They'll attack you outright and still destroy you with their Draco Meteor Haxorus or their Ice Beaming Rhyperiors...

I don't know. I felt that everybody knew Heatran would be popular enough to counter Volcarona that they'd pack HP Ground just in case. At least that was in the early days. Then I saw variants with HP Ice for advantage vs. Dragonite or HP Rock for overall best coverage. I only destroy it because I have either Tyranitar or Dragonite, but that's just me you see. I don't know what you run on yours though... but Volcarona turns a lot of stuff into set up bait. I used to call it Uglymoth because I wasn't too fascinated by its design then.

It's not too versatile, but it doesn't need to be. Garchomp wasn't versatile and look at how people were complaining how uber it was.

Oh I was talking about Salamence. Only people without a lot of competitive knowledge use Draco Meteor with Haxorus. That took me by surprise. My Cloyster somehow manages to go first (no EVs much?), uses Shell Smash, Haxorus DMs and KOs it. I hate these people >_>

And I don't believe tiering matters at all. Many obscure Pokes from NU/UU/whatever are viable counters to some prominent OUs.

Yeah Salamence is the "least bulkiest" of the pseudos.

Problem with Volcarona is... many tend to carry HP Ground for Heatran and whatnot. People aren't really... well, stupid, if I may. And most of the Pokes you mentioned are set up baits, which sucks. I cannot really rely on Blissey to wall everything anymore.

Idk.. Draco Meteor will do a number to Alomomola. Salamence was pretty scary though, I won't deny that.

Well, I'm complaining about its traits and stats, but it's not all that much as we make it out to be. I've actually taken it out many times but it was kind of frustrating to see like 80% of my health chunked off from a single hit. It's kind of like Scrafty... and he's actually overrated. Maybe I've been seeing a lot of noob Haxorus though because it's very noob to use. I don't know...

Ehh, 95/80/80 bulk is similar to Azumarill's. Flygon is more fragile with 80/80/80 defences for example.

Volcarona? Not that overpowered, but still crazy powerful. I hate it... Quiver Dance and start blasting with whatever it has. I mean, I always beat it with Tyranitar, but still... it has just the right stats in the right places like the rest of the Gen V OP pokes. Remember that most physical attackers are weak on the special side... and also Volcarona resists stuff like Fighting and Steel moves.

Mhh. Haxorus is too noob. Mold Breaker IGNORES Dragonite's Multiscale! You know how broken that is? Earthquaking any Gengars in its place and Outrage nearly killing anything just makes it ridiculous. Haxorus is kinda cheesy and a bit overrated though. I have problems dealing with it but it falls eventually, although it calls for some overspecialised counters like Quagsire. Call me crazy but 76/90/70 defences are NOT fragile! It lived a + 6 Lapras's Waterfall in the rain (I know it resists it but still... with all that boost I'd think it'd at least be OHKOd).

Salamence's case was "one wrong move and you're dead" reasoning. Haxorus is "you're dead anyways" case.

It won't hit ubers because "it isn't fast enough" or whatnot. They say it is easily revenged but it always manages to take a whole bunch of my team down. It's kind of like Rayquaza except all physical and isn't hampered by opposing abilities. I was in for a shock when it eq'd Bronzong. I don't mind some of the new Pokemon... but yeah... the uglier ones turned out to be the stronger ones... and overpowered too. I mean, I don't mind Haxorus in general because it looks like a bug or something... but when I realised that they gave it some overkill attack power and some crazy ability to go along with it, I'm like... what in the world? How is that even fair? These Pokemon don't even have high BST either! It's just that the stats are PERFECTLY aligned and there's very little balance to it. Everyone's like "Haxorus is fragile so stop complaining". Er... it doesn't get OHKOd by most stuff that isn't a Draco Meteor or something... and those who have the attack to hit Haxorus are annihilated before they can do anything about it. And those who are bulky enough to take an attack are generally not strong enough to take it down. Then there's the Levitaters who fail because of Mold Breaker. Rivalry + 1 Outrage can 2HKO Skarm... just glad mine is female.

Eh, I think I like Heatmor now. I don't know why.. maybe I used it too much when I was giving practice rounds to people.

Lilligant is too gorgeous for her own good.

And that's what's incredibly funny; many are just filler Pokemon that supposedly replace the old generations. Notice the sheer amount of psychics, darks, bugs, and steels introduced this generation, and many without thoughts. Musharna, Beheeyem, etc... all outclassed by Reuniclus. Like... redundant much? Not much difference at all; their roles are similar as slow bulky psychics.

The moral decadence of this generation... I swear <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sleep.png" alt="-_-" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sleep@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Heatmor was just designed to be a metallic Ant Eater... without the Steel typing. It does destroy Durant one on one but Stone Edge can hurt indeed. And in terms of usefulness it has very little. I tried using it... and in game it's weird because it comes REALLY late in the game, making it useless. It learns Flamethrower naturally however, and has Flash Fire. If it came a bit earlier it would have been more useful. And what the heck... it learns most of its Dark moves via breeding.

As for Lilligant... I really love that one. I really do... but they ended up screwing her over with ZERO coverage moves. That's upsetting, but Own Tempo + Petal Dance is awesome. She has the stats, she even has Quiver Dance and she looks royal (!!) but they trolled her with little moves. There really is no end to this trolling!

Exactly my thoughts. They stuff some ugly looking Pokemon with very little lore with some skyrocketing stats. Excadrill does look cool indeed, so I'm not that much against it but still, what he can do is ridiculous. As for Hydreigon, he's not entirely broken is true, and even with 135 SpA I wouldn't mind either. It's a pseudolegend; it can get away with that if that were the case. But minor dragons like Haxorus or some random metal plant like FerroAIDS? No way.

Scrafty's 65/115/115 defences are just ridiculous. The HP sucks, and if I use it, I always fail, but when everyone else does it... Bulk Up + Rest + Payback + Drain Punch... ewww. Their Shed Skin always works and it sets up no problem which is crazy.

TBH Air Slash is too weak of a STAB move. They need better Flying Special attacks... and Hurricane isn't it.

I thought the same thing... the lizard stuff. But if that's so, why not Sceptile, who actually has Dragon moves to back it up (not that it really needs it but still)? Eh it's another one of those "all the right stats in the right places" guy, and I thought that was annoying.

Tropius = Mokele-Mbembe, a cryptic dinosaur that may exist in modern times. Same for Lapras, who got Dragon Dance and dragon moves and it is based off the Loch Ness monster or possibly the Plesiosaur... all fits very well with how I thought of them.

Scrafty! I was wondering about that fellow! Dragon Claw, Dragon Dance, why all the dragon moves? Whiscash and Crawdaunt got it too though... though I think Whiscash is based off Namazu and dragons are representative of something imperial or something, idk. Whiscash is somewhat logical, but Crawdaunt I was wondering too. Every time I say "Why does Scrafty get Dragon Dance?" everyone's like "Why Crawdaunt then huh?" I can't ever answer that and they think that's a justification for Scrafty getting it. Just because something gets it doesn't mean it justifies another getting it though. Tropius on the other hand... is a dragon, so that's completely fine.

Hippowdon's too physically bulky to be OHKOd from the likes of a Leaf Blade from a Leafeon. Even a CB Power Whip from FerroAIDS won't OHKO Hippowdon.

I don't enjoy the power creep of Gen V.

Meh this is the first time I'm playing the 2nd round with this file. I got haxxed a lot at times, but overall I'd have to say Flint gave me the most trouble due to some poor decisions I've made. But other than that it turned out well.

Yeah just reading stuff and I'm glad I'm not the only one to not like this power creep.

I beat Platinum's E4 yesterday. Level 65 Empoleon became Level 67 Empoleon because that Spiritomb was such a set up bait <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue.png" alt=":P" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Now I'm going to go get some Pokemon transferred to Platinum to see how well they fare otherwise.
