Got it. I'll just bring it home with me, and download CFW on it, and do it that way. Otherwise I'll just say screw it and start over on my own actually game Cartridge.

Say while I'm on the subject. IF I wanted to use PokeHEX to modify my Pokémon to be Shiny Sprites and what not... Can that be done somehow? And I'm talking about from the actual game... not the R4i card. Like if I started a new game on SoulSilver, could I than actually modify that sav file so that I could give myself Shiny Pokémon etc...??? Or do I need something special for that as well?

    Thanks-

You need a way to dump the save from the cart and then write it back to it every time you want to make edits, of course. If it's just individual Pokémon, you can edit it in your flashcard save and then trade it, but that requires two consoles. If you want to use those Pokémon in later games and/or online, you should make sure to keep them legal (lots of tutorials here regarding that).

    As for the main topic:

There's a Wi-Fi Backup tool. I've never used it before, but it should work. It requires a DS Phat or Lite and a Slot-1 card only. If yours is a DSi, then you need to install CFW.

Can we get more frequent updates then? Or can I manually do it on my end? 24hrs in a day, can’t imagine adding a few event Pokémon here and there takes too long.

Updates are constant, but there are only release versions when they feel it's stable enough and/or there are significant changes. You can, however, manually compile it from the PKHeX github yourself with all the latest commits, if you have the tools and knowledge.

Example: I rather use the “gain 40k XP per battle” code in-game because that’s actually happening inside the game rather than PkHex, where I’d be editing the actual save file and the game itself wouldn’t think that’s legit. Whereas with just XP gained, the game knows that’s a thing but if I have 3 Rare Candies and then suddenly have a ton more, that’s fishy.

All I’ve been doing is completing the Gen 2 living ‘Dex and if I go into PkHex and add them all, it won’t be legit (will need PID’s, TID, etc.)

I do get your concerns. I worry about the same thing when making edits. However, at least in Generation 2, the number of Rare Candies in your bag is a single byte value that doesn't get checked anywhere else. And the game doesn't log which or even how many items you've used on a Pokémon. So, if the Pokémon itself is never modified and you've never used any items that couldn't be legitimately obtained (and Rare Candies can, even if they're, pun not intended, rare), then the Pokémon is 100% legit. I'm sure there are other ways to cheat and make the game give you more EXP per battle, though, if you really want it to be that way, since it will save you the trouble of going back and adding more Rare Candies when you eventually use them all, and it's faster for lower levels.

  4. Hi! This may be a weird request, but I have a Raichu that I caught in a Max Raid that I wasn't hosting myself and the little (big 😛) rat just seems too good to be legit. So, I'd like to take a look at the .pk8 file to see if the Raid was RNGd or outright hacked. And, if so, it the Raichu is at least legal. However, I don't have a hacked Switch, so I need to trade it to someone so they can extract it and trade it back to me. Would someone be willing to help? If there's any service (like Pokécheck back in the day) that I could use on a legit Switch without any significant risk and that I don't know of, just point me in the right direction and I'll do it myself. Thanks in advance.

I honestly just don’t see the point then of injecting stuff into VC to transfer up if you can just skip that entire process and just get a PkHex SAV and put it right into Gen 7 then Bank/Home to Gen 8.

I was thinking there was a point to it (like physical cartridge events injected into VC to transfer up or other things that only the physical cartridges could get) but doesn’t seem like it.

In that perspective, you're right. It's no different from doing that. But it still requires hunting them in a Gen 2 game. And injecting the save into your VC game or PKHeXing the mons to a Gen 7 game and then injecting that one would yield the same result

Can I ask why shiny hunt in Gen 2 instead of Gen 3 so that you can at least transfer them up to current games so that they won’t get lost in the future?

In Gen 2, shininess is related to IVs, so you can have a chance that's as high as 1 in 64 if you're smart with egg groups or manage to get a shiny Ditto. And by injecting those saves in the VC version of Gen 2, you can transfer up to Gen 7/8 (just not 3–6).

  7. Gen 1 and 2 don't count for Gen 5 because there's no legitimate way to get Pokémon from a Gen 1/2 game into Gens 3–6. They're only importable from the VC versions to Gens 7 and 8. For Gen 8, which is what you need, everything that hasn't been "Dexited" is available to you, you just have to be mindful of how they're supposed to reach your game. Namely, HOME trackers and the like. I'd import everything that's from before Gen 7 into Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, then move it into Bank, then HOME. Gen 8 mons could be passed off as having been traded to your game directly without first visiting HOME, so they should be imported directly into Sword/Shield (I don't know if there's any trade record that needs editing, since I haven't dabbled in Gen 8 save editing due to lack of a hacked Switch). Pokémon that are meant to come from Pokémon GO or Let's Go should be imported into those games, then transferred to Sword/Shield through HOME.

  8. Take all your Pokémon from Bank and into Ultra Moon, back the save up, and open it in PKHex to check for legality. Most Shiny Living Dexes have some illegal Pokémon. Not necessarily hacked, but RNG manipulations in emulators and the like tend to give unexpected results due to emulation inaccuracies. I think there was a case of an RNG'd Shiny Registeel that came up in these forums a few days ago because of that.

  9. https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Ribbons_in_the_games#Gift_Ribbons

The Earth Ribbon is considered a Gift Ribbon, so it kinda makes sense in terms of coding. As to why a Pokémon should not be able to be traded after winning 100 battles in Mt. Battle, it's anyone's guess. However, a legit Pokémon with this ribbon would have to come from Gen 3, and winning 100 battles in that place with the same Pokémon is quite the feat, so it wouldn't be the most likely candidate for a GTS trade... So I would immediately assume it's hacked.

Darn, so  even for my own personal, never-will-trade collection they can’t go any farther than VC due to the transporter knowing it’s not legit, or would it somehow bug out the VC copy?

And if any generous soul would be willing to let me borrow one of these GB USB devices I'd get these guys backed up a lot sooner than later. 😅

Actually, if you transfer your save to a VC version, everything except the Mew will be legal (since anything else you could've just obtained in the VC games). You mentioned the capture date. That will be set upon Transporting them to Bank. Just don't transfer that Mew. Even if Bank doesn't detect it, later checks might, and it won't be legit even if they don't.

EDIT: I believe there is some small conversion process to be done so that the save can be loaded in the VC games, like adding/removing a few header bytes.

Ok thanks for all the response I will buy a used 3ds with ultra sun /ultra moon one more qq Shuld I buy both copies. Of the  game or one is fine  as I will be anyway but playing the game but just find out a save file with all mons

The easiest course of action is to buy a hacked/hackable 2DS with Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon and use one of the saves provided right here on Project Pokémon to inject all the old Pokémon. Then you just have to transfer them to Bank (and, subsequently, HOME).

yeah guys sorry, you won't be able to get the magearna anymore unless there's a another exploit to be found or if there's another distribution

Wait, so it's impossible to get the Magearna now? I am one Pokémon (Zamazenta) away from completing my National Pokédex, although I won't have a living one anytime soon (let alone all alternative forms). I have a scheduled Zamazenta tradeback for later today, and I thought they would've fixed the detection/distribution by now. Should I wait until they change something?

I was thinking about doing this myself. Backup my UltraMoon save, send all my mons to Pokebank (with this free month), and transfer them to Home, and then restore my UM backup. But I'm a little reticent, since I don't know the chances of getting my 3DS banned from online because of this.

@theSLAYER What do you think? High chances of getting the 3DS banned? If so, can the Nintendo Account linked to the Bank get banned, and my non-cfw Switch because of this?

If you're restoring 3DS game saves, and not tinkering with Bank itself, you should be safe. I've done that countless times in the past

  14. Way back when, I used the Poké Transporter .exe tool to move a bunch of Pokémon from Heart Gold to Black (JPN). Most are fine, but some are now throwing legality errors on PKHeX. Some may be corrupted, but others shouldn't be flagged. Take the attached Skuntank, for example (taken from a Black save). It says Night Slash is illegal, and I'm guessing it's because it would only learn the move later in B/W. However, in Gen 4, it's learned at level 31/32, so it's perfectly legal. I have several of these cases in this file. Should I attach them all, or is it enough to implement a previous gen level-up check? Also, the event dogs/Celebi are throwing a PID-Nature mismatch that shouldn't be happening either, I think. Can anyone give me an insight as to what's happening here? Last but not least: some moves are giving me PP errors (Petal Dance is a frequent offender). I'm guessing the max PP got changed from one gen to another and the aforementioned tool didn't catch this. What should I do in this case? Manually fix the PP and that's it?

EDIT: This unrelated .pk4 Eevee says it shouldn't have been hatched at this location. I'm positive I've never tampered with it.

EDIT2: I found the original Heart Gold save file and moved Skuntank again with PKHeX. It's now legal, despite still having Night Slash. I'm even more confused now.

EDIT3: Found the errors for the dogs. The Natures had been corrupted by the old program, I found the correct ones, set them back, and they're now legal. Deleted those attachments for convenience.

EDIT4: Legit (in-game, never modified) Cloyster throwing an error — missing ribbons

    435 - スカタンク - 5DDFC8E39B03.pk5

    133 - EEVEE - AC8D4DFFE240.pk4

    091 - Cloyster - 736CF36DFFA6.pk6

  15. As for legality, yes, every Pokémon should be legal. However, actually transferring them up to present games might be a harder task, since 4th Gen Pal Park won't recognize them. There are, obviously, ways around this, but they're usually complicated. I can try and explain them to you if you need it, though.

Yeah all of this requires actual testing.

Meaning 9 different scenarios (Wii, GameCube, emulator, each in PAL, NTSC and PAL60), of which 3 (the emulator ones) have only an academic purpose, while 6 are actually related to actual possible legit gameplay. I can help in a few months, but this is gonna be a LOT of work ?

EDIT: PAL60 isn't supported, but NTSC 480p is. However, that should not be any different from 480i regarding timings, so we're down to NTSC/PAL on GC and Wii

CPU underclocking would be enough to cause weird timings. And the GC emulator may not play exactly by itself either. Then people will ask about Box emulated on PC running RS.. sigh.

And let me throw another spanner into the gears while I'm at it: there may be differences between PAL and NTSC versions due to the 50/60Hz video modes, which affect timings.

EDIT: I'm not sure whether the PAL version supports PAL60, but if it does, then it may be different from both PAL and NTSC.
